A shareholder: Karolina, 22,
from Lithuania
Study Status: a few weeks ago finished studies
University of Essex, United Kingdom.
Degree: Bachelor in Arts,
International Relations.
Professional experience: University placement
(6 months), Student Ambassador.
KAROLINA SAYS:
●
In early years at school (8 or 9th
grade), you relate your profession to your wishes and dreams. In last
grades you start listening to opinions of others, think what is more perspective and popular.
● Things that you are successful at make a big influence what to study. I dreamed of Medicine but as I
wasn't good at mathematics, so I considered something with languages that I was good at.
● I have no thoughts that I could not study after school. It seemed obvious, this path was formulated for
me and I determined it myself.
● Before going to studies, going abroad, I thought of myself as exceptional, but as I began to study, I saw a
lot of people the same as you, even with more experience, so I got less confidence about my
future. On the other hand, more people with more achievements push you to do more yourself.
● I know a have a lot of perspectives, I had classmates who have already had their PhD. But they
decided to start over, study bachelor again, things that they liked.
● My future employers will look at my Diploma, General Grade and maybe the courses I made but the
things they really pay attention are Exta activities – that I was a student Ambassador and I had a
student placement. I am happy that I my placement was in business sector – different from my major so I
received extra experience that was very interesting.
● I feel that I do not have enough job experience to get a successful job, I had no Internship so far. And
all my achievements are local, seems not enough even to find a good internship placement.
● Now that I finished University I am on my own with my decisions, of course competition outside is big
and the pressure from others is big, they want to know your plans for career.
● I would like to work in the place where I could change something, where I could experience new
things every time.
● Now it is time not to dream but to act. I will think everything carefully, without hurry, I will take full
responsibility for my action.
● I am not planning to study Master degree now. I will take my time and thing what I want.
THINK AND FEEL:
● THINKS that early school dreams about the profession
were taken away and was influenced by inner factors
(skills and things you are good at) and outside factors,
teachers, parents, society.
● FEELS that the thought that you have to study after
school was obvious, with no alternative.
● FEELS less confident and exceptional because of
meeting thousand of students like herself. But this also
pushes her to achieve more and to gain more
experience.
● THINKS that her future employer will pay attention to
her Exta activities. Diploma and Grades are not so
important.
● FEELS that she has not enough job experience to get a
successful job or even a good internship.
Karolina needs a way
to get more professional experience
because it
is essential for future career.
STAKEHOLDER:
● Intelligent,
● Ambitious,
● Strong personality
● Strict to herself
● Seems confident
in what she is doing
PROBLEM / NEED:
● Karolina needs
a way to get more
professional experience
INSIGHT:
● Professional experience
is essential
to get a good Internship
or a new job.
● Professional experience
also gives you time
to find out what you
want from your career,
and from your life in general.
