Empathy Map - Say
● I don't see much value in the college education I've gotten when it comes to getting a job.
● But the experience of college has been good.
● College is really a discovery period
● College is an opportunity to learn about yourself and realize what your own values are.
● I think it would be better if there were more opportunities for internship-like experiences rather
than so much classroom stuff.
● Sometimes you think that you’re interested in something but once you do it for awhile, not so
much.
● Too much in college and society is all about competition. It throws people against each other
instead of encouraging them to think of ways to help each other.
● A lot of times, its not about what you can do or what you know but what school you went to or
what certificates you have, or what clubs you belong to that will get you a job.
● I like opportunities to try things where I can a path that it leads to.
● More people should think about going to community college for two years first for requiements
and then have the chance in a four year school to experiment.
● Lots of kids choose a major like Communications or Business because they can't figure out
anything more specific to take not because it really interests them.
Empathy Map - Think
● Conventional classroom instruction is not valuable.
● Hands on experiences are better.
● It doesn't matter what you actually learn in class because it's not what you
use in work.
● Employers expect you to follow a conventional path through college and
come out with piece of paper.
Empathy Map – Feel
● Frustrated.
● More mature after college.
● More in touch with herself after college life.
● Anxious to try lots of new things but doesn't feel that conventional college
gives her a way to do that.
● College is too expensive to waste experimenting.
Problem Statement
Stakeholder needs a way to experience and understand many different types of work
before committing to one for a career because what she does matters to her.
● STAKEHOLDER: A level headed, hard working person who wants to make a difference and help
people while being happy and secure.
● PROBLEM/NEED: Stakeholder needs to find a field of work that she likes and feels is useful.
● INSIGHT: Stakeholder wants to a lot of choices about what kind of work to pursue but it needs to be
work that has value. Stakeholder wants to choose not just fall into something.
●
