Horse Application Essay
I feel as if my application would be incomplete if I did not discuss my absolute and overwhelming
passion for equestrian sports and the horses, our teammates, we compete on. Ever since I was little I
had a strong desire to touch or even get a glimpse of our equine friends. The moment I finally was
able to ride it clicked, this was the thing I have always wanted to do. Horses and the sport of riding
makes up who I am, my heart and soul goes into it. When I was young I obsessed over horses as do
most young girls but, that obsession never changed as I grew older. All the falls, all the heartbreak
and stress that it caused made me fall even more in love with it. I have now been riding for twelve of
my seventeen years of life and I do not ever ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I have met some very stubborn horses that years down the road I discovered had actually taught me
so much more than any other horse ever would. That is what influenced me to take on the
opportunity of buying and training a three–year–old unbroken arabian. He has come to teach me not
only things about riding but also life–lessons. I have gained patience, trust and understanding from
him. He is now six years old and despite the fact that some days I felt as if we would never get
anywhere in our training he is now an excellent horse. Taking an animal that has never had a person
on it before and making it completely calm and even excited to work with a person on it's back is an
incredible thing and I am happy to have been able to experience this.
Being an equestrian is who I am and who I will always be. I have learned so much from the horses
and the people who make up this sport and I hope to learn more as the years go on. Every single
horse that I have ever met has fueled my passion and my love for this incredible sport. I have no
idea what I would do if it had never came into my life, it means everything to me. I hope that riding
in college can help me to continue on in my learning of this amazing

Horse Simulator
There are serious games and there are fun ones made with zero logic. Horse Simulator belongs to
the latter, and there is no reason for us to complain. True to its name, it is a horse simulator, allowing
you to take control of a free–willed steed who just wants to explore the world around it. With decent
graphics and fun, straightforward gameplay, this game is something you would want to play if
you're looking for mindless fun and entertainment.
In Horse Simulator, you have the option whether to have a rider on your back, or to just go with the
horse alone. With that said, we think that it would be best to not go with a rider especially if you're
planning to do something dastardly. Not that it matters anyway, since there are no speed or
durability bonuses when going with a rider. However, if you're a fan of seeing someone struggle on
top of a rampaging horse, do it. Unfortunately, there are scarcely any customization options in Horse
Simulator, and you'll need to go with only a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is also a railroad where the trains pass, and you can try racing it if you want. The world of
Horse Simulator is loaded with interactive objects, so you will have a lot of things to do. For
example, there are even helicopters and moving platforms which can lead you to secrets. To keep
your horse going, you will need to find carrots, which are scattered across the game's world. Not
consuming carrots will render your horse tired, and unable to keep going. Be sure to make this a
priority when playing it!
So, should you be playing Horse Simulator? This is a game for everybody, and yes, it's something
you should have installed on your device. Horse Simulator provides outstanding fun and
entertainment, perfect if you're waiting in line at the supermarket, dentist's office, or just trying to
burn extra energy before going to sleep at

Horse Observation Report
This week Heather took our imported Irish sport horse named Deelite to a show so my week was
spent packing the trailer with everything you could possibly need (show cloths, tack, lunging
equipment, different bits just incase, water fans, buckets, boots, and grooming supplies just to name
a few things), getting all papers that are needed for traveling in order (health certificate, coggins,
copies of entrance forms, etc.). Since Heather was going to be gone for three days we made a list of
everything that would need to be done while she was away. This included working two horse that
had someone coming to look at them to buy them when Heather came back, working two horses that
are in for training, lunging a pony who has had some time off, and doing stall because one of our
workers found a new job and did not give us notice that she would be leaving. ... Show more content

For the two mares that were having someone come look at them they both needed work on their lead

Mustang: Mysterious Horses
A mustang is a free roaming horse of the American west that first came or descended from horses
that came to America from the Spanish. Mustangs are often called wild horses to, but because they
are descended from once domesticated horses, they are properly defined as feral horses. The original
mustangs were Colonial Spanish horses, but many other breeds America types of horses contributed
to the modern mustang. Most contain a greater genetic mixture of ranch stock and more recent breed
releases, while a few are relatively unchanged, most are strongly represented in the isolated
populations. In 1971, the US Congress recognized that wild free roaming horses and burros are
living symbols of the historic and pioneer spirit of the West, which

Personal Narrative: A Horse
"A horse is the projection of people's dreams about themselves – strong, powerful, beautiful – and it
has the capability of giving us escape from our mundane existence" (Brown). The greatest gift I've
ever received was when I was just five years old. As the young, ambitious dreamer I was raised to
be, I longed for my very own pony. Then one magical day, Rico became not only mine, but my best
friend and my wild place. Horses are a true and pure gift from God as their beauty, grace, and speed
is unlike any other animal on Earth. As I move forward up my driveway, listening to my tires crunch
on gravel, I think to myself how greater of a sound hooves beating on pavement is. The moment I
lay my eyes on any of my four companions in the pasture,

Classification Of Horses Essay
The typical way to classify horses is by breed. The American Quarter horse is the most popular
breed in America, especially in Texas. They are the work horses on ranches, the most popular for
showing and competing in speed events such as barrel racing. Another popular breed is the Paint
horse, which to me is nothing me than an American Quarter horse that is not a solid color, usually
they are brown or black with white areas on their bodies. There is also the Arabian breed, they are
known for their endurance, which I am sure they get from their ancestors being used in the desserts
of Arabia. Another popular breed, for kids mostly, is the Ponies of America or POA. These horses
are generally small compared to the other breeds I have mentioned ... Show more content on

Since he was second to join our family, he feels as if he is second in line behind Storm to be the
"King of the Hill", but that doesn't always work out.
The third and hopefully final horse addition to our family was the POA. His name is appropriately,
Pony. Pony is 15 years old, this makes him middle aged in the horse world. Of course with age,
comes wisdom. In the horse world, with age usually comes dominance as well, Pony should be the
leader of the herd based on his age, but Storm, being our first, will not let that happen.
When all three are in the pasture, Storm is the protector of the herd, a small herd it may be, but it is
still his herd. When other horses get close to the fence, Storm will run at the fence, kick his feet up,
snort through his nose like a raging bull and stop right before hitting the fence; after all it is an
electric fence. Magic will get excited and run around acting similar but never getting between Storm
and the other horses, defending the herd is Storm's job and his right. If the other two try to intervene,
he will turn on them. Pony stands by, out of the way and watches the young ones act foolish. When
there aren't any other horses around, Storm will let the other two know he his in charge by chasing
them and pining back his ears, which is a sign of anger or alert for a horse. Magic lets him have his
way and tries to chase Pony, but Pony is older and will not let the

Horses Reflect The Thematic Idea Of Freedom In Horses
In the book when the emperor was divine, the motif of horses reflect the thematic idea of freedom.
In the book the Japanese–Americans have been interned which means their freedom have been taken
away and horses are used to represent that freedom. In the beginning of the book the Japanese–
Americans were placed in internment camps. The little boy in the book long to be free, just like the
horse. "The spaniards had brought them over hundreds of years ago and now there were thousands
of horses just roaming around, wild". This quote shows how free the horses really are and this is
why they symbolize freedom.
Throughout the book horses are used many times and the thematic idea of freedom seem to change.

Horse Soring Issue
In this essay, I will explain the facts, and argue my own views and opinions on horse soring, a topic
that has been booming for horse owners and horse lovers in the United States and other foreign
countries for the past forty years. This issue has not only been affecting the horse population, but its
controversy has spread and became a huge issue in our government. People use soring to win
competitions in a very cruel way. Nothing about this issue seems very fair to me whatsoever.
The HPA otherwise known as the horse protection act, passed as a bill by congress in 1970 to ensure
the protection of all horses from soring in shows, sales, auctions, and practices. The bill in 1970
stated it to be "cruel and inhumane" to force a horse to sore in a competition if it did not naturally
have it that way already ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Not too recently a case of soring hit the spotlight in August of this year. A USDA Medical Officer
working at a Tennessee Walking Horse Show and found a horse being sored in a forced way. The
person who had gotten caught had rubbed foreign oil on the horse's legs. The officer who captured
this case mentioned in an article, "Its a Competitive World Out There. Unfortunately there are
people who make unethical choices to gain unfair advantages." This shows me, how badly people
want to win, when they do not even consider what pain this does to the horses that help them win.
Even now in 2016 after almost forty years horses seem to still suffering from the choices that people
make. But we can help; we can do something to stop it. Multitudes of people capable of turning in a
violator of this act; once turned in, the penalties include: spending up to two years in prison, fines of
five thousand dollars, disqualification from showing for up to one year or more, and a $2,200 fine or
less for each hose found sored, and the person will also no longer be able to compete in events, but

Western Treatment Of Horses
When I was in elementary school, I had very strong feelings about everything. If you said black, I
said white. If you said the sky was blue, I said it was not. Basically, if you thought you were right, I
would attempt to challenge that in any way I could, even if that meant going against all logical
thinking. This obstinance is best described in one time when I felt very strongly about horses. My
family and I had horses for many years, and so did some of our friends. However, those friends
treated their horses much differently than we did. We treated our horses with love and respect, going
with the Western style of riding. Our friends still loved their horses, you could tell, but it was less of
a "pet" type of love than a money–making ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Their horses were Tennessee Walkers, and once their horse reached a certain age, that horse was
simply "too old" and would be retired. In my opinion, though, this was not their main issue.
Tennessee Walking horse trainers used a technique called soring on their horses' hooves to acquire
an exaggerated gait, or specialized type of walking, trotting, and cantering for show performance.
Along with my sister and a few other friends, I believed that this technique was harmful to horses.
After all, soring often involves chemicals, weighted shoes, pads, boots, and chains to achieve the

Essay On Horses For Therapy
Horses for Therapy Riding horses can be used in many spectacular ways. Horses can be used for
therapy with special needs children. Horses can help ease soldier's minds. Riding horses helps with
emotional issues, diminish post–traumatic stress disorders, and allow children with special needs to
have fun. First, riding horses is a great way to build a person's trust. Trust in animals can be a huge
obstacle, especially when the person has had a bad experience with one. The trust can be easily
broken but very difficult to achieve back. Horses are a very caring animal; therefore, they tend to be
very understanding. According to The Braveheart Riding, "...trust for those whose capacity for trust
has eroded due to difficult life experiences..." (Therapeutic). An example of a traumatic life
experience is an injury or a death of a close friend. The brain thinks that if they can trust this

The Rocking Horse-Horse Winner
In David Herbert Lawrence's short story, The Rocking Horse Winner, a boy sets out on a quest to
look for luck. His luck inevitably allows him to win money betting on horses. The money he has
earned is used in an effort to gain his mother's love. Although, he was left with was his mother's
stone heart. Lawrence displays that money doesn't buy happiness.
The question at issue in this short story is, does the protagonist, Paul, receive a sense of love,
satisfaction, and security with his single pursuit of money?
Some readers find that Paul does receive a sense of love, satisfaction, and security from his sole
pursuit of money. Religious literary critic, Charles Koban, believes that she loves Paul more than

After keeping his gambling a secret, he finally admits to his mother that he's been betting at the
derby and that he is lucky. His hard work was all for nothing. After he admits his winnings, she still
doesn't acknowledge the hard work he put in to satisfy her. When a person tries hard to accomplish
something and is shut down it leaves them devastated. It is Paul's quest and drive for his mother's
love that allows him to persist in the pursuit of money. "'I never told you, mother, that if I can ride
my horse, and get there, then I'm absolutely sure –oh, absolutely! Mother, did I ever tell you? I am

Tracking Horse: The Hanoverian Horse
Introduction
There can be no question that the Hanoverian Horse represents today, one of the most prominent
breeds of riding horses in the world. The stud–book comprises close to 19,000 active brood mares
and 450 approved breeding stallions and covers the largest homogeneous breeding area in Europe
(Hanoverian–gb.org.uk, 2017). Goodwin et al., (2008) believes that equine ethology, management,
learning theory, skill, and talent combine to influence numerous outcomes in horse–rider
interactions. The behavioural and learning processes in the horse are likely to influence not only
equine athletic success but also the usefulness of the horse as a domesticated species (Murphy and

the behaviour of four horses: daily training without free exercise (NT), two–hour turnout (for free
exercise) before training (TBT) and two–hour turnout after training (TAT). The behaviour of the
horses in the stable was more relaxed when turnout was allowed in addition to training. The
behaviour during training was also more relaxed and the willingness to perform was not negatively
affected by turnout. Furthermore, the study indicates that training does not fulfil the horses' exercise
requirements. This horse does get turnout on a regular basis but it is not guaranteed every

Horse Slaughter Is The Act Of Slaughtering Horses
For the past five thousand years the horse has been of greater human interest for its strength than as
a food source. However, American horses are still shipped over our borders and slaughtered for
human consumption overseas. Horse slaughter and the export of horses from the United States
should be banned because it is cruel and inhumane; furthermore, consuming American horse meat
can be detrimental to human health. Horse slaughter is the act of slaughtering horses to obtain their

The industry is continuing to seek its reestablishment while lawsuits from animal welfare activists
attempt to hinder their attempts. However although horses are not slaughtered or eaten in the United
States, more than 100,000 companion, working and even wild horses are shipped to Mexican and
Canadian slaughterhouses for consumption overseas in Europe and Asia each year (Stepping).
Horses end up at slaughter through a number of ways. The most common being that horse owners
bring their horses to livestock auctions when they can no longer afford them, expecting them to find
a good home. However, that is not always the case, what sellers fail to realize is there are
middlemen for foreign–owned slaughterhouses, known as "kill buyers", who frequent these auctions
looking for horses. Often kill buyers can be see communicating with the auctioneer in the auction
ring. They often outbid genuine horse owners and rescues, robbing the horses of the opportunity for
a second chance at life.(Transport) Sometimes kill buyers respond to "Free horse to good home"
advertisements. These advertisements are usually from families who love their horses but can no
longer afford them so they give them away. They sign a paper thinking that their horse is going to a
good home but in actuality they are signing the horse's death warrant. Along with kill buyers

The Evolution of a Horse Essay
The Evolution of a Horse Throughout history, humans have depended on the horse. Horses have
contributed to the growth of humankind as transportation, farm workers, and battle steeds. They
have been trained to support humans in many ways. When did this relationship begin? At what point
did the horse become a vital part of human society? Exploring the evolution of the horse can help to
answer these questions. A mammal with hooves that have an odd number of toes on the rear feet are
known as odd–toed ungulates. The middle toe on each rear hoof is usually larger than the ones next
to them. Horses are members of the odd–toed ungulates which includes the horses, tapirs, and

Four of the toes had early proto–hooves. The back legs had small hooves on three of the five toes.
The toes were padded like a dog's toes. The Hyracotherium had three incisors, one canine, four
premolars, and three grinding molars on each jaw, which was a typical tooth structure of early
mammals who were omnivorous browsers (Hunt 4). Eohippus survived for about twenty million
years with relatively few evolutionary changes (Wikipedia 7). These animals lived in a sub–tropical
climate and ate soft fruits and the leaves of trees.
During the middle to late Eocene and into the Oligocene epoch several other members of the equids,
with distinct evolutionary changes, existed including the Orohippus, Epihippus, Mesohippus, and
Miohippus. The Orohippus developed from the Hyracotherium and shared many of the same traits.
One major change was that the first and second toes disappeared. Another significant change
occurred in the teeth. The last premolar changed to become like a grinding molar. Also the crests
were more defined showing that the Orohippus's diet had changed to a tougher plant material.
During the middle Eocene a descendant of Orohippus appeared. The Epihippus still resembled a
dog–like animal. It had four padded toes on the front leg, and three on the back leg. However, the
teeth changed more drastically with two of the premolars changing to grinding molars. Now there
were five grinding cheek teeth with low crowns. As

Slaughtering Horses
A horse is an animal well known on farms, in Amish communities, used in sports and often kept as
pets. Horses are considered free spirited animals that not only provide love and fun journeys, but are
also put to work. Horses offer a strong structured body that can be used for travel, either riding on a
horse's back or using the horse to pull a carriage, leisure, emotional support and even entertainment.
In America, horses are noble animals that have impressive senses and abilities. Horses have
extraordinary balance, impressive flight or fight responses to predators and have a life span of 25–30
years, thus making a horse a longtime companion. Horses not only have an impressive resume for

by a thread of skin and gaping wounds (The Humane Society of the United States, 2017).
Thankfully, the plant was closed but we still have a problem with the export of horses for slaughter.
One may argue, if there was a way to humanely slaughter a horse would you still be against horse
meat? Yes. Horses are often seen as companions and are even used to assist mentally ill
rehabilitations, almost like a dog. It is taboo in America to slaughter and eat dog meat because dogs
are domesticated. Dogs are also very strong animals with strong senses and good fight–or–flight
responses. However, dogs are not quite as built as horses, and although dogs are also known to

Saddle A Horse Saddle
Not everyone knows how to ride a horse, so that means not everyone knows how to put a saddle on
the horse so they can ride it. Saddling a horse if actually really easy they just need to know how to
do it. This is how to put a saddle on a horse. First, before they can do anything else is to go and
catch the horse. When they go to catch the horse they will need a halter. When they catch the horse
they will have to go to the horse stall and tie him up. Finally they are able to start the saddling
process. First they will need to get a brush and brush all the dirt of him. The reason they need to
brush him off is because if they saddle him with dirt still on him it will make the saddle
uncomfortable, and this will increase the chance of him bucking

Rocking Horse Winner
Being loved and cared for is what most people have grown up to know. "Rocking Horse Winner" by
DH Lawrence is about a little boy who wants to make his mother happy. Lawrence uses money, the
house, and the rocking–horse as symbols to convey the theme that greed destroys happiness. To start
off, money symbolises happiness for a person. In the story it is said, "There must be more money!
There must be more money!" to make it be known that they need more money constantly. It also
tries to say that luck is all you need and that " it is better to be born lucky than rich". "If you're rich
you may lose your money. But if you're lucky you'll always get more money (Gillett)." The luck will
always be with you. The story breaks down to the ones who think puts "love with money and luck
with happiness". Paul"s mom thinks that money "will make her happy" though it has not yet. "Paul,
who learns from his mother to associate love with money, represents the desperate search for values
in a cash culture. The force of Lawrence's satire is directed at a society that is dominated by a quest
for cash, and at those who buy into the deadly equation of love equals money" (Piedmont–Marton).

In the present study, it is hypothesized that the ET, non–invasively obtained using IRT, is a
predictive stress–related marker that identify stress condition of Thoroughbred racehorses, and can
be applied in the evaluation of Thoroughbred horses' welfare and performance.
3– Aim
Due to the importance of horse racing industry and agribusiness development reported in global

Horse Behavior Analysis
Deemed the most dangerous animal veterinary students must work with, horse behavior is often
misunderstood among even the most well–versed horsemen (Gronqvist, Rogers, Gee, Martinez, &
Bolwell, 2017). Equines have a complex range of emotions which are expressed through specific
body language well known to owners. Sometimes these aggressive and/or anxious actions can show
up suddenly which leaves caretakers confused and looking for a solution. The behaviors specifically
include standoffish movements, biting, kicking, pinning ears back, and other similar actions. Not
only can this sudden change in demeanor be concerning, but it can also be a hazard to anyone
around the animal. These outbursts can be triggered by situations such as past experiences, ... Show

This would be a specified amount of exercise through riding, and ground care such as grooming and
hand grazing. The dependent variable is the observed demeanor which is ranked on the behavior
scale that ranges from one (complacent), to seven (vicious). This scale system is formulated based
off of groupings of body language and how dangerous they are to potential handlers. Data on
temperament is recorded daily with a point value from the scale awarded to each horse at the end of
each encounter. When averaged, a decreasing weekly score suggests that the animal's behavior is
less aggressive over time. Therefore, the demeanor of the animal is judged to be improving. Any
aggression seen in the pasture is not be taken in to account since this is deemed naturalistic within a
herd. During this study, I am assuming that the horses are receiving similar amounts of attention.
Also, I will assume that the animals are not acting out in response to another issue, such as a
hormonal imbalance or mating. In this way, results will suggest that the behavior is not
psychological (in other words, related to emotion), but instead physiological (medical). I expect
internal validity since these animals are not giving any specific treatment currently. Any specific
change in behavior indicates a causal relationship among the variables. One consideration is that my
sample size is small, but this is not uncommon when dealing with studies in the equine field.
Another is that some animals may have past psychological damage since many are rescues. It is
possible that aggression is in response to unknown problems (masked medical issues) that have no
relation to behavior. This would mean that attention would not provoke a change. As a final
consideration, the study would take place during mating season which could cause some "natural"
aggression. A Kennesaw Mountain High School IRB

Horse Training and Showing
Horse Training and Showing
Riders and horses that compete prepare through a training process that aids participation skills and
showmanship. Horse competitions require the people participating to have a certain level of
experience and knowledge. Due to this, horse trainers put an extensive amount of time and effort
into having to train their hose, prepare their horse, and participate in horse shows and events. The
training aspect that goes into preparing a horse for showing can begin soon after a horse is born. The
earliest a horse trainer could begin training a newborn horse is only after they have been weaned off
of their mother for a few days. Once this has been accomplished, the horse trainer may begin putting
the horse through the process of knowing what they need to know so they are able to take part in
shows once they are ready enough. The horse is first put through learning the basics, being taught to
understand when it must stop, to go when the rider clucks their tongue, and how to trot alongside
them. With this training, the youngest a horse is allowed to begin participating in official events is at
the age of 4 months. After a horse has learned the basics, they are free to begin to learn other skills;
however, a horse should only be taught one skill at a time to prevent overwhelming it from having to
remember too many things. When training the horse new skills, it is best to keep in mind that horses
learn best through reinforcement, which is the process of

Descriptive Essay On A Horse
Ever since I was a child I knew that I wanted to work with animals. Horses, in particular, have
always fascinated me. After much begging, pleading, years of convincing, and always working hard
to save up money, I convinced my parents to allow me to buy a horse. To me, Indie was the most
beautiful quarter horse I could have ever dreamed of getting. Since our purchase of Indie, we have
acquired another horse, Sherman, and a pony, Tucker. Although the horses have always been hard
work, they were worth every sweaty hot summer evening of mucking out the stalls and frigid winter
mornings of carrying water to the trough in order to avoid freezing our hoses. After all, I used to
dream of being a veterinarian and helping all kinds of animals in some way.
When I learned how to heal my horse's hoof a couple of years ago, the vision of being a vet was
reaffirmed. It was a hot summer day when my dad and I were working around the barn. Like any
other day as we worked we would check on how the horses were doing, this included grooming
them and cleaning their hooves. We noticed one of our horses, Indie, moseying over with a limp and
not putting weight on one hoof. I immediately was worried, thinking that he might have a serious
injury.
"Let's lift up his hoof and check out what he got into," suggested my dad. (How Indie's hoof looked)

Did horses evolve from a different animal?
About 55 million years ago the horse we know now was a small animal standing 2 feet tall. The
earliest horse had pointed teeth which shows that it might have eaten meat. As you know the horse
nowadays doesn't have toes. A long time ago horses had toes. The skull of the earliest horse looks
like a fox's skull with back teeth.
How were horses used in the past and used how are they used now?
For centuries horses have been used to clear forests, plow land, and herd cattle. A long time time ago

Horse Gentleness Research
This I believe I believe in horses. I believe in their gentleness, strength, and speed. I believe in the

believe in the gentleness of a horse. After seeing all of that power and strength that a horse can

powerful than you, yet they let you pet them, ride them, and pick up their feet off the ground. Even

The Rocking-Horse Winner
The world has always been full of hatred, war, and strife, but the one thing holding us together is
love. One of the main concepts to happiness is being loved and loving others. In my 17 years of
living, I have seen and experienced love on multiple occasions. The love a couple has for each other.
A love of God. A love of friends and family. Even the love a pet has for it's owner. A love that sticks
out the most is the love a parent has for their child and vice versa. The famous novelist, poet,
playwright, essayist, literary critic and painter, David Lawrence, wrote the short story "The Rocking

The narrative starts out telling about Hester having trouble loving her children. It has never been a
common thing that a mother just stops loving her children. She also loves money more than her
family. This shows how unthankful she is for the family and life she has. Materials such as money
mean more to her than family does. This is shown towards the end of the narrative "The Rocking–
Horse Winner", Paul knew that the derby was coming up, so he rode the rocking horse as hard as he
could to figure out which horse would win. He thought the more he rode his rocking horse, the more
money he would make, to please his mother. He was so stressed about betting on the horse that
would win, he became ill. This is when his mother actually became a little concerned about him.
Paul was in critical condition, "He neither slept nor regained consciousness, and his eyes were like
blue stones. His mother sat, feeling her heart had gone, turned to actual stone" (Lawrence 495).
Bassett visited him to tell him that the horse Paul said would win, had won. Paul awoke when
Bassett told him the news. Paul asked his mother if he told her how lucky he was, and she said he
never did. He died that night. In consequence, she did earn money, but she lost a child because of

Insulin Resistance In Horses
Each year about 340 horses die due to effects of insulin resistance. That is almost half the deaths
caused by horse racing. If a horse or pony suffering from Insulin Resistance and they eat high sugar
feed, and eat normal, unsoaked hay the large increase in sugar may cause death or lead to serious
life threatening conditions. In horses that don't suffer from Insulin Resistance and Cushing's it
wouldn't be as great a concern if they got out and ate feed and hay, but thus act becomes life
threatening and fatal for horses and ponies suffering from Insulin Resistance and Cushing's. Insulin
Resistance, Cushings, and Endocrinopathic Laminitis are all very complex diseases that many
experts are still gaining an understanding for. Glucose, insulin, and cortisol are major factors not
only in Insulin Resistance (IR) and Cushings (PPID) as individual diseases, but they also serve to
link the two diseases to Endocrinopathic Laminitis in addition to each other. Insulin Resistance and

The elevated levels of cortisol that occur as a result of PPID are believed to contribute to the
insensitivity of stimulation and the resistance of laminitis. When the cortisol is secreted by the
pituitary gland it interferes with the lamellar perfusing, causing a vasoconstrictive response in the
equine digital arteries to the catecholamines. Also a cortisol excess results in " protein catabolism in
the skin, connective tissue, bone and skeletal muscle, impaired wound healing, muscle atrophy
derived data are pointing to the fact that inflammation leads a pivotal role in laminitis" (Johnson).
Some experts also believe that stress can lead to a horse becoming laminitic because of the increased
cortisol secretion that occurs due to stress. Since Laminitis is so incredibly painful for the horses and
ponies affected it causes them to experience extreme stress, which in turn causes a dramatic spike in
cortisol levels

The Expense of Owning a Horse
Horses are expensive animals to have around and knowing exactly how expensive before you rush
out and buy one is imperative. Usually the cheaper part of getting a horse is the actual purchase
price. Horses can cost anywhere between a few hundred to thousands of pounds depending on the
type and breed of the horse, the age, who is selling the horse and why, how much training he's had
and how experienced he is. Buying a horse from a private seller Buying from a private seller rather
than a trainer, breeder or dealer can be a way to get a good deal and save money. Private sellers
often advertise in newspapers, on bulletin boards of tack stores or on buy–and–sell websites. If
you're inexperienced with horses be sure to bring along someone you trust when seeing a horse. An
experienced horseperson will be able to tell if the animal is good for you and whether or not it seems
to have any behavioural problems. If your expert feels the horse is sound and good for you, then a
vet will determine if the animal is health and suitable for what you want to use it for. Some of the
better reasons private owners sell their horses are a change in finances resulting in the horse being
too expensive to keep, moving and not being able to take the horse with them, wanting to replace a
beginner's horse with a seasoned show animal, children moving out of the house and leaving no one
to ride the horse or just generally losing interest in the hobby. Unfortunately people also sell horses

I walked past stalls of horses to a new off track thoroughbred named

I lead him by leather reins to the outdoor ring where my trainer would see him work for the first

only in the horse world but also in the human world. Today hydrotherapy is used all around the

of the injured site causing further harm. Because of the extra fluids the blood vessels are put under

be found in the equine world. English can be broken down into jumping and flat work. Two types of
jumping will be examined, hunters and jumpers, to find divergences and uniformaties. Conversely,
in competition, hunters and jumpers divert in the judging of the classes, with the rules in the hunter

Horses will be chosen at random to complete a drug test. The administer of the test will wait two

First Horse Narrative
I've owned a pony since I was six years old, but I've been around horses all my life. From a young
age, I had always thought that I was a horse guru. I was confident with horses and never doubted my

This was the mindset I had before my first horse show. The first horse I had ever shown was a dark
brown quarter horse. She stood 15 hands tall, meaning there was 60 inches between the ground and
her shoulder, which is a perfect size horse for a nine year old. Her show name was Miss Dark

body and sent a chill up my spine. Whipping her head around, Secret whinnied again, and I tried to
make eye contact with my mom for reassurance, but I could not spot her in the crowd of people. My
anxiety was getting worse and Secret could sense that, which only made her more nervous. When
we were told to trot our horses, Secret's behavior became even worse. She started to hop up with her
front legs projected above the ground and her back legs following through with little kicks, as if she
were preparing to buck. She continued to do this as I passed by the stands. I glanced around at the
people watching me, only to find them shaking their heads disapprovingly and whispering to one
another. I looked up at the cloudy sky, feeling miniscule on top of this large, anxious horse. The fear

the probability of me being thrown to the ground seemed significantly high. Secret continued her

Secret did end up throwing me to the ground. When my class finally ended, we were all told to bring
our horses into the center of the ring and line them up. Dismounting Secret at last, I was flooded
with the feeling of

Horse Passion Application Essay

  • 1. Horse Application Essay I feel as if my application would be incomplete if I did not discuss my absolute and overwhelming passion for equestrian sports and the horses, our teammates, we compete on. Ever since I was little I had a strong desire to touch or even get a glimpse of our equine friends. The moment I finally was able to ride it clicked, this was the thing I have always wanted to do. Horses and the sport of riding makes up who I am, my heart and soul goes into it. When I was young I obsessed over horses as do most young girls but, that obsession never changed as I grew older. All the falls, all the heartbreak and stress that it caused made me fall even more in love with it. I have now been riding for twelve of my seventeen years of life and I do not ever ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I have met some very stubborn horses that years down the road I discovered had actually taught me so much more than any other horse ever would. That is what influenced me to take on the opportunity of buying and training a three–year–old unbroken arabian. He has come to teach me not only things about riding but also life–lessons. I have gained patience, trust and understanding from him. He is now six years old and despite the fact that some days I felt as if we would never get anywhere in our training he is now an excellent horse. Taking an animal that has never had a person on it before and making it completely calm and even excited to work with a person on it's back is an incredible thing and I am happy to have been able to experience this. Being an equestrian is who I am and who I will always be. I have learned so much from the horses and the people who make up this sport and I hope to learn more as the years go on. Every single horse that I have ever met has fueled my passion and my love for this incredible sport. I have no idea what I would do if it had never came into my life, it means everything to me. I hope that riding in college can help me to continue on in my learning of this amazing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Horse Simulator There are serious games and there are fun ones made with zero logic. Horse Simulator belongs to the latter, and there is no reason for us to complain. True to its name, it is a horse simulator, allowing you to take control of a free–willed steed who just wants to explore the world around it. With decent graphics and fun, straightforward gameplay, this game is something you would want to play if you're looking for mindless fun and entertainment. In Horse Simulator, you have the option whether to have a rider on your back, or to just go with the horse alone. With that said, we think that it would be best to not go with a rider especially if you're planning to do something dastardly. Not that it matters anyway, since there are no speed or durability bonuses when going with a rider. However, if you're a fan of seeing someone struggle on top of a rampaging horse, do it. Unfortunately, there are scarcely any customization options in Horse Simulator, and you'll need to go with only a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There is also a railroad where the trains pass, and you can try racing it if you want. The world of Horse Simulator is loaded with interactive objects, so you will have a lot of things to do. For example, there are even helicopters and moving platforms which can lead you to secrets. To keep your horse going, you will need to find carrots, which are scattered across the game's world. Not consuming carrots will render your horse tired, and unable to keep going. Be sure to make this a priority when playing it! So, should you be playing Horse Simulator? This is a game for everybody, and yes, it's something you should have installed on your device. Horse Simulator provides outstanding fun and entertainment, perfect if you're waiting in line at the supermarket, dentist's office, or just trying to burn extra energy before going to sleep at ... • 5. Horse Observation Report This week Heather took our imported Irish sport horse named Deelite to a show so my week was spent packing the trailer with everything you could possibly need (show cloths, tack, lunging equipment, different bits just incase, water fans, buckets, boots, and grooming supplies just to name a few things), getting all papers that are needed for traveling in order (health certificate, coggins, copies of entrance forms, etc.). Since Heather was going to be gone for three days we made a list of everything that would need to be done while she was away. This included working two horse that had someone coming to look at them to buy them when Heather came back, working two horses that are in for training, lunging a pony who has had some time off, and doing stall because one of our workers found a new job and did not give us notice that she would be leaving. ... For the two mares that were having someone come look at them they both needed work on their lead changes. I achieved this by first warming up the horse including a lot of lateral work in each direction. Then I had a pole in the center of the arena and I would make a very large figure eight over it first at the trot focusing on bending/ changing the bend and moving off my leg aids. • 9. Mustang: Mysterious Horses A mustang is a free roaming horse of the American west that first came or descended from horses that came to America from the Spanish. Mustangs are often called wild horses to, but because they are descended from once domesticated horses, they are properly defined as feral horses. The original mustangs were Colonial Spanish horses, but many other breeds America types of horses contributed to the modern mustang. Most contain a greater genetic mixture of ranch stock and more recent breed releases, while a few are relatively unchanged, most are strongly represented in the isolated populations. In 1971, the US Congress recognized that wild free roaming horses and burros are living symbols of the historic and pioneer spirit of the West, which ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Personal Narrative: A Horse "A horse is the projection of people's dreams about themselves – strong, powerful, beautiful – and it has the capability of giving us escape from our mundane existence" (Brown). The greatest gift I've ever received was when I was just five years old. As the young, ambitious dreamer I was raised to be, I longed for my very own pony. Then one magical day, Rico became not only mine, but my best friend and my wild place. Horses are a true and pure gift from God as their beauty, grace, and speed is unlike any other animal on Earth. As I move forward up my driveway, listening to my tires crunch on gravel, I think to myself how greater of a sound hooves beating on pavement is. • 13. Classification Of Horses Essay The typical way to classify horses is by breed. The American Quarter horse is the most popular breed in America, especially in Texas. They are the work horses on ranches, the most popular for showing and competing in speed events such as barrel racing. Another popular breed is the Paint horse, which to me is nothing me than an American Quarter horse that is not a solid color, usually they are brown or black with white areas on their bodies. There is also the Arabian breed, they are known for their endurance, which I am sure they get from their ancestors being used in the desserts of Arabia. Another popular breed, for kids mostly, is the Ponies of America or POA. These horses are generally small compared to the other breeds I have mentioned ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since he was second to join our family, he feels as if he is second in line behind Storm to be the "King of the Hill", but that doesn't always work out. The third and hopefully final horse addition to our family was the POA. His name is appropriately, Pony. Pony is 15 years old, this makes him middle aged in the horse world. Of course with age, comes wisdom. In the horse world, with age usually comes dominance as well, Pony should be the leader of the herd based on his age, but Storm, being our first, will not let that happen. When all three are in the pasture, Storm is the protector of the herd, a small herd it may be, but it is still his herd. When other horses get close to the fence, Storm will run at the fence, kick his feet up, snort through his nose like a raging bull and stop right before hitting the fence; after all it is an electric fence. Magic will get excited and run around acting similar but never getting between Storm and the other horses, defending the herd is Storm's job and his right. If the other two try to intervene, he will turn on them. Pony stands by, out of the way and watches the young ones act foolish. When there aren't any other horses around, Storm will let the other two know he his in charge by chasing them and pining back his ears, which is a sign of anger or alert for a horse. Magic lets him have his way and tries to chase Pony, but Pony is older and will not let the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. Horses Reflect The Thematic Idea Of Freedom In Horses In the book when the emperor was divine, the motif of horses reflect the thematic idea of freedom. In the book the Japanese–Americans have been interned which means their freedom have been taken away and horses are used to represent that freedom. In the beginning of the book the Japanese– Americans were placed in internment camps. The little boy in the book long to be free, just like the horse. "The spaniards had brought them over hundreds of years ago and now there were thousands of horses just roaming around, wild". This quote shows how free the horses really are and this is why they symbolize freedom. Throughout the book horses are used many times and the thematic idea of freedom seem to change. • 19. Horse Soring Issue In this essay, I will explain the facts, and argue my own views and opinions on horse soring, a topic that has been booming for horse owners and horse lovers in the United States and other foreign countries for the past forty years. This issue has not only been affecting the horse population, but its controversy has spread and became a huge issue in our government. People use soring to win competitions in a very cruel way. Nothing about this issue seems very fair to me whatsoever. The HPA otherwise known as the horse protection act, passed as a bill by congress in 1970 to ensure the protection of all horses from soring in shows, sales, auctions, and practices. The bill in 1970 stated it to be "cruel and inhumane" to force a horse to sore in a competition if it did not naturally have it that way already ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Not too recently a case of soring hit the spotlight in August of this year. A USDA Medical Officer working at a Tennessee Walking Horse Show and found a horse being sored in a forced way. The person who had gotten caught had rubbed foreign oil on the horse's legs. The officer who captured this case mentioned in an article, "Its a Competitive World Out There. Unfortunately there are people who make unethical choices to gain unfair advantages." Basically, if you thought you were right, I would attempt to challenge that in any way I could, even if that meant going against all logical thinking. This obstinance is best described in one time when I felt very strongly about horses. My family and I had horses for many years, and so did some of our friends. However, those friends treated their horses much differently than we did. We treated our horses with love and respect, going with the Western style of riding. Horses have contributed to the growth of humankind as transportation, farm workers, and battle steeds. They have been trained to support humans in many ways. When did this relationship begin? Eohippus survived for about twenty million years with relatively few evolutionary changes (Wikipedia 7). These animals lived in a sub–tropical climate and ate soft fruits and the leaves of trees. During the middle to late Eocene and into the Oligocene epoch several other members of the equids, with distinct evolutionary changes, existed including the Orohippus, Epihippus, Mesohippus, and Miohippus. The Orohippus developed from the Hyracotherium and shared many of the same traits. One major change was that the first and second toes disappeared. Another significant change occurred in the teeth. The last premolar changed to become like a grinding molar. Also the crests were more defined showing that the Orohippus's diet had changed to a tougher plant material. During the middle Eocene a descendant of Orohippus appeared. The Epihippus still resembled a dog–like animal. It had four padded toes on the front leg, and three on the back leg. Sometimes these aggressive and/or anxious actions can show up suddenly which leaves caretakers confused and looking for a solution. The dependent variable is the observed demeanor which is ranked on the behavior scale that ranges from one (complacent), to seven (vicious). Data on temperament is recorded daily with a point value from the scale awarded to each horse at the end of each encounter. When averaged, a decreasing weekly score suggests that the animal's behavior is less aggressive over time. Therefore, the demeanor of the animal is judged to be improving. Any aggression seen in the pasture is not be taken in to account since this is deemed naturalistic within a herd. During this study, I am assuming that the horses are receiving similar amounts of attention. Also, I will assume that the animals are not acting out in response to another issue, such as a hormonal imbalance or mating. In this way, results will suggest that the behavior is not psychological (in other words, related to emotion), but instead physiological (medical). I expect internal validity since these animals are not giving any specific treatment currently. Any specific change in behavior indicates a causal relationship among the variables. One consideration is that my sample size is small, but this is not uncommon when dealing with studies in the equine field. Another is that some animals may have past psychological damage since many are rescues. It is possible that aggression is in response to unknown problems (masked medical issues) that have no relation to behavior. This would mean that attention would not provoke a change. As a final consideration, the study would take place during mating season which could cause some "natural" aggression. A Kennesaw Mountain High School IRB ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Horse competitions require the people participating to have a certain level of experience and knowledge. Due to this, horse trainers put an extensive amount of time and effort into having to train their hose, prepare their horse, and participate in horse shows and events. The training aspect that goes into preparing a horse for showing can begin soon after a horse is born. The earliest a horse trainer could begin training a newborn horse is only after they have been weaned off of their mother for a few days. Once this has been accomplished, the horse trainer may begin putting the horse through the process of knowing what they need to know so they are able to take part in shows once they are ready enough. The horse is first put through learning the basics, being taught to understand when it must stop, to go when the rider clucks their tongue, and how to trot alongside them. With this training, the youngest a horse is allowed to begin participating in official events is at the age of 4 months. After a horse has learned the basics, they are free to begin to learn other skills; however, a horse should only be taught one skill at a time to prevent overwhelming it from having to remember too many things. • 61. Horse Gentleness Research This I believe I believe in horses. I believe in their gentleness, strength, and speed. I believe in the sound of hoof slamming into the ground as a horse gallops across a field. I believe in the noise of a horse breathing heavily . I believe in the sweat of a horse. When a horse is sweaty and it is running you can see their body working as hard as possible to get as much speed as it can possibly make. I believe in the gentleness of a horse. After seeing all of that power and strength that a horse can make, it can be one of the most gentle creatures on earth. They are so much more incredibly powerful than you, yet they let you pet them, ride them, and pick up their feet off the ground. Even though there could be so many threats and prey animals ... • 63. The Rocking-Horse Winner The world has always been full of hatred, war, and strife, but the one thing holding us together is love. One of the main concepts to happiness is being loved and loving others. In my 17 years of living, I have seen and experienced love on multiple occasions. The love a couple has for each other. A love of God. A love of friends and family. Even the love a pet has for it's owner. A love that sticks out the most is the love a parent has for their child and vice versa. The famous novelist, poet, playwright, essayist, literary critic and painter, David Lawrence, wrote the short story "The Rocking Horse Winner", which digs deeper in the concept of love. The narrative begins with a mother, Hester, who is struggling with whether she loves ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The narrative starts out telling about Hester having trouble loving her children. It has never been a common thing that a mother just stops loving her children. She also loves money more than her family. This shows how unthankful she is for the family and life she has. Materials such as money mean more to her than family does. This is shown towards the end of the narrative "The Rocking– Horse Winner", Paul knew that the derby was coming up, so he rode the rocking horse as hard as he could to figure out which horse would win. He thought the more he rode his rocking horse, the more money he would make, to please his mother. He was so stressed about betting on the horse that would win, he became ill. This is when his mother actually became a little concerned about him. Paul was in critical condition, "He neither slept nor regained consciousness, and his eyes were like blue stones. His mother sat, feeling her heart had gone, turned to actual stone" (Lawrence 495). Bassett visited him to tell him that the horse Paul said would win, had won. Paul awoke when Bassett told him the news. Paul asked his mother if he told her how lucky he was, and she said he never did. He died that night. In consequence, she did earn money, but she lost a child because of her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 65. Insulin Resistance In Horses Each year about 340 horses die due to effects of insulin resistance. That is almost half the deaths caused by horse racing. If a horse or pony suffering from Insulin Resistance and they eat high sugar feed, and eat normal, unsoaked hay the large increase in sugar may cause death or lead to serious life threatening conditions. In horses that don't suffer from Insulin Resistance and Cushing's it wouldn't be as great a concern if they got out and ate feed and hay, but thus act becomes life threatening and fatal for horses and ponies suffering from Insulin Resistance and Cushing's. Insulin Resistance, Cushings, and Endocrinopathic Laminitis are all very complex diseases that many experts are still gaining an understanding for. Glucose, insulin, and cortisol are major factors not only in Insulin Resistance (IR) and Cushings (PPID) as individual diseases, but they also serve to link the two diseases to Endocrinopathic Laminitis in addition to each other. Insulin Resistance and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The elevated levels of cortisol that occur as a result of PPID are believed to contribute to the insensitivity of stimulation and the resistance of laminitis. When the cortisol is secreted by the pituitary gland it interferes with the lamellar perfusing, causing a vasoconstrictive response in the equine digital arteries to the catecholamines. Also a cortisol excess results in " protein catabolism in the skin, connective tissue, bone and skeletal muscle, impaired wound healing, muscle atrophy derived data are pointing to the fact that inflammation leads a pivotal role in laminitis" (Johnson). Some experts also believe that stress can lead to a horse becoming laminitic because of the increased cortisol secretion that occurs due to stress. Since Laminitis is so incredibly painful for the horses and ponies affected it causes them to experience extreme stress, which in turn causes a dramatic spike in cortisol levels ... • 67. The Expense of Owning a Horse Horses are expensive animals to have around and knowing exactly how expensive before you rush out and buy one is imperative. Usually the cheaper part of getting a horse is the actual purchase price. Horses can cost anywhere between a few hundred to thousands of pounds depending on the type and breed of the horse, the age, who is selling the horse and why, how much training he's had and how experienced he is. Buying a horse from a private seller Buying from a private seller rather than a trainer, breeder or dealer can be a way to get a good deal and save money. Private sellers often advertise in newspapers, on bulletin boards of tack stores or on buy–and–sell websites. If you're inexperienced with horses be sure to bring along someone you trust when seeing a horse. An experienced horseperson will be able to tell if the animal is good for you and whether or not it seems to have any behavioural problems. If your expert feels the horse is sound and good for you, then a vet will determine if the animal is health and suitable for what you want to use it for. Some of the better reasons private owners sell their horses are a change in finances resulting in the horse being too expensive to keep, moving and not being able to take the horse with them, wanting to replace a beginner's horse with a seasoned show animal, children moving out of the house and leaving no one to ride the horse or just generally losing interest in the hobby. Unfortunately people also sell horses for less ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 69. Horse Creative Writing I walked past stalls of horses to a new off track thoroughbred named Damien serenely peering into the aisle. My trainer had asked me to ride him. As I picked his hooves and curried his chestnut flanks, he was as tranquil as autumn leaves in a gentle breeze until he saw the saddle, then he became a tornado whirling around the center of the stall. I lead him by leather reins to the outdoor ring where my trainer would see him work for the first time. He trotted circles around me and spooked at the wind. I returned to the barn and let him run and buck so he could burn off extra energy. When I heard my trainer's golf cart stop in front of the barn, I caught him and prepared to mount. My trainer arrived and held his bridle while I put my foot in the stirrup. When foot made contact with iron, the horse bolted. He spun himself in circles around my trainer while I balanced half on, half off struggling to find the saddle and my balance. As soon as I was seated, the horse was loose. I gathered my reins and sat as calmly as I could. Suddenly, he bucked and threw me forward. As I fell onto his neck, he continued bucking. My trainer yelled, "Sit up! Pick his head up!" I was able to do neither. When I fell, the cold ground greeted me with a slap. I struggled to slowly stand as I clung to my now wet ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 71. Hydrotherapy In Horses The Use of Hydrotherapy in Horses Hydrotherapy is the use of water for cultivating wound healing, facilitating movement, and relieving pain. Hydrotherapy has an extensive historical significance, not only in the horse world but also in the human world. Today hydrotherapy is used all around the world as a traditional way, and in some cases, the most effective way to treat specific illnesses and injuries. To understand how it works, one must understand how the body reacts to traumas such as cuts, tears or concussive traumas on a cellular level. After this is understood, the effectiveness of hydrotherapy is easy to grasp. Hydrotherapy has many different forms to make it the exceptionally efficient for each individual. Most physical therapist ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Pain is considered a positive symptom. It prevents overuse of the traumatized area. Increased blood flow is caused by heat. In addition, swelling keeps the injured site immobile, but prolonged swelling can decrease the ability to move muscles (Hydrotherapy; Swelling). Anti–inflammatory drugs can decrease swelling and heat, but they also reduce pain. This lessening of pain can lead to over usage of the injured site causing further harm. Because of the extra fluids the blood vessels are put under pressure thus stalling the flow of blood and lymphocytes. A safe way to remove the excess fluids naturally is by using hot and cold; however, heat can prolong inflammation causing certain secondary tissue damage ("Hydrotherapy"). • 73. Horse Descriptive Writing I stood in the car park of the livery yard anxiously waiting, with a new lead rope in my hands, for him to arrive. I had checked the time on my phone about a hundred times. They were due any minute now and I could hardly contain my excitement. To waste a little time, I ran back to the stable to check it was ready for him, although of course I knew it was. The earthy smell of freshly laid wood chips filled my nostrils. My mother shouted, "They are here" and I turned to watch a horse– box trundle into the yard. This was actually happening. Every young girl has their fantasies; from becoming a pop star to flying around outer space. Well, mine was to have my own horse. I can still picture the horror on my mother's face as I thundered past her in the stubble fields, Arron at full gallop and mystified, she often asks, "How did I end up with such a horsey daughter?" In contrast, the smile on my face reached from ear to ear and I'm sure Arron was smiling too, an enormous, toothy, grin. Horses love speed as much their riders. By the time I was riding Arron, almost eight years had passed since that first lesson. That childhood obsession with horses had not gone away, if anything, it had intensified and at weekends I virtually lived at the stables. A friend owned Arron and even though I rode her regularly, fed, watered and mucked out her stable every day, essentially catered for all her needs, she wasn't mine. Furthermore, I knew that one day we would go our separate ways so I always held back a little, never letting myself get too attached to her, in anticipation of the day we would say goodbye to each other. • 75. Horse Classification Essay The question posed to every equestrian ask what type of riding the person does. Normally, the options given by the asker include English or Western. However, a greater variety of disciplines can be found in the equine world. English can be broken down into jumping and flat work. Two types of jumping will be examined, hunters and jumpers, to find divergences and uniformaties. Conversely, in competition, hunters and jumpers divert in the judging of the classes, with the rules in the hunter ring being based deeply in tradition. Hunter divisions originated from fox hunting, thus, horses must have long, fluid strides in order to cover more ground easily, so the horse would not tire during a hunt. Similarly, both hunter and jumper horses must be registered through the United States Equestrian Federation before showing, and also microchipped starting in 2016. All horses, whether competing in the hunters or jumpers, must be able to pass a random drug screening for all illegal substances. Horses will be chosen at random to complete a drug test. The administer of the test will wait two hour to collect a urine sample from the horse, after two hours if a sample cannot be collected, then blood will be drawn from the horse for the drug test. Hunters and jumpers both accumulate points throughout the show season, based on placing, that rank the horses for year end awards and show qualification for finals. In the Equitation ring, a another type of jumping, riders can only compete on a single horse in a class to help with points towards riding finals, while hunters and jumpers can show on multiple different mounts without affecting eligibility. • 77. First Horse Narrative I've owned a pony since I was six years old, but I've been around horses all my life. From a young age, I had always thought that I was a horse guru. I was confident with horses and never doubted my ability for a second. I believed that I was a natural and because of this, nothing could ever wrong. This was the mindset I had before my first horse show. The first horse I had ever shown was a dark brown quarter horse. She stood 15 hands tall, meaning there was 60 inches between the ground and her shoulder, which is a perfect size horse for a nine year old. Her show name was Miss Dark Secret, but I called her Secret. I was leasing her from a family friend at the time, and after a few months I received a phone call from this friend informing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I steered Secret to the rail, whispering "good girl" as a way of calming us both down. However, her attention was not focused on me, but on her surroundings. She perked her ears up at every sound she heard and whinnied desperately to her friends in hope of a reply. Each whinny resonated through her body and sent a chill up my spine. Whipping her head around, Secret whinnied again, and I tried to make eye contact with my mom for reassurance, but I could not spot her in the crowd of people. My anxiety was getting worse and Secret could sense that, which only made her more nervous. When we were told to trot our horses, Secret's behavior became even worse. She started to hop up with her front legs projected above the ground and her back legs following through with little kicks, as if she were preparing to buck. She continued to do this as I passed by the stands. I glanced around at the people watching me, only to find them shaking their heads disapprovingly and whispering to one another. I looked up at the cloudy sky, feeling miniscule on top of this large, anxious horse. The fear that had built up inside me made the ground look considerably farther away than it really was and the probability of me being thrown to the ground seemed significantly high. Secret continued her little hops as we rounded the arena and finally Meghan ran into the center of the ring, just in case Secret did end up throwing me to the ground. When my class finally ended, we were all told to bring our horses into the center of the ring and line them up. Dismounting Secret at last, I was flooded with the feeling of ...
