Supercomputers are the most powerful computers currently available, used for highly complex scientific and engineering applications involving massive datasets or calculations. The first successful supercomputer was the CDC 6600, completed in 1964 for $8 million, and delivered to national laboratories. Current top supercomputers include Fujitsu's K computer, Oakforest-PACS, and machines from the US and China. Throughout their history, supercomputers have enabled weather forecasting, nuclear research, code breaking, and molecular modeling.
