2. Character types for our film
• Protagonist: our protagonist is going to be a 16 year old boy,
white. We have decided this due to the common convention of the
teenage male protagonists in this genre. we have decided that he
will have an interest in art and this will be a significant part to his
character and aspects off the story. We got this influence from the
other films that we have analyzed such as perks of being a
wallflower and submarine as the male protagonists were both
writers and this was an important part of their character.
• Female character (love interest): white female, 16. Is quite
independent. Closed off due to events of her life( needs to be
developed)
• Relationship: The relationship between the protagonist and this
character is that the were best friends since day but then she
moved away and they drifted apart. Since then different
circumstances have changed them both and when they meet
again things are different, mainly for her.
3. • Best friend: the protagonist will have a bestfreind who
is quite quirky and funny and always makes him feel
better. He is one of his few friends. He will be a male
who is slightly older than him (17-18?). Distinctive
style.
• Family: the family will consist of a mum and dad and
an older brother. He’s older brother is quite popular
and they are not particularly close. Good relationship
with his mum and I closer to her than his dad.
4. Brief of the story
The boy and girl were best freinds when they were
younger. The girl then moved away after the
death of her mum and lives with her dad in
Ireland. The boy became sad, quiet, closed off
and shy with only a small hand full of friends. 5
years later the dad and girl move back but she
has changed due what happened. The story will
be about them meeting again after all this time
and the different events that take place leading
them to look at each other in a new way.
5. Ideas for Props and costume
• Protagonist: a distinctive style or piece of clothing that
reflects his individuality.
• Girl: she wears something quite significant but small
(piece of jewelry)
• Props- art work for the walls of the room.
• Small sketch book
• Photo graphs
• Locations: a bedroom
6. Narrative
The opening will consist of a voice over from the
protagonist. He will tell the audience some
information about his character and the story
of him and the girl.( the opening sequence the
day she is coming back) restricted narrative
throughout (just told through his eyes) and a
linear structure…. Maybey including some
flash backs.
7. Develop and conform
• We are going to use a voiceover of the protagonist for out opening
sequence, explaining the story. In the films we studied, narration is a
common convention and is mainly used when the protagonist is thinking
to himself.
• We are going to use the convention of a small town, to show this we are
going to have a shot of the protagonists house. Afterwards, we are going
to film the protagonists room, focusing on the art and props to give a in
depth look at the life and feeling of the protagonist.
• As the music in our films are independent, we are going to have music
made for our sequence, reflecting the mood and felling of our
genre/sequence.
8. Synopsis of our film
• -Cai and Daisy were best friends as child. However, at the age of 11,
Daisy moved to Ireland to live with her dad after her mother died. After
Daisy moved away, Cai began to focus on his art and spends most of his
time painting pictures that mean something to him, because his best
friend moved away, he became more enclosed and shy, with only a
small group of friends that he wouldn’t call close. 5 years later, Daisy is
moving back and Cai doesn’t know. Although Cai wishing they were still
friends, as they lost contact over the years, Daisy has forgotten about
their friendship.-The story is about Cai meeting Daisy after all these
years and the changes both of them went through. They look different,
act different, talk different, but they still get along as they did when
they were kids. They start going out together as friends like they did
when they were young, and they become best friends again. However,
this time, they begin to like each other, and the film is about changing
their friendship into something more.
