The Beginning Of The 19th Century
The 18th century in America became a time of growth of independence and religious freedoms. People began searching for developing other ways of
worship, including revivals, outdoor sermons, and more inclusive baptisms. This enabled more people to experience religion, allowing people to decide
for themselves which way of worship was right for them. Along with growing religious independence, the nation itself began to establish itself as a
unified entity. The colonies began thinking of independence, away from the control of England. However, one group, enslaved Africans, remained
separated and excluded from the nation's unification. The use of slaves, common during this time, established the African race as inferior and almost

The Wheatley family purchased a young enslaved African girl, who was sent to Boston. Her owners named her Phillis after the ship carrying her

poetry. At the age of twelve, she published her first poem. Later in 1770, the poem titled "On the Death of the Rev. Mr. George Whitefield" raised
international attention. This attention helped Phillis Wheatley publish a book of collected poems in 1773, making her the first African–American to do
so, including poems titled "On Being Brought from Africa to America", and "Thoughts on the Works of Providence". Her early education not only
focused on literacy, but religion, where it played a large role in her poetry. Writing the elegy for Rev. Mr. George Whitefield, an evangelist preacher

In this context Phillis Wheatley, was a privileged African American woman. White women faced obstacles obtaining an education. Therefore, enslaved
Africans rarely experienced the opportunity of education. Learning to read as an African woman was extremely unlikely let alone writing and speaking

The Growth Of American Individuality
The Growth of American Individuality in Relation to Self–Expression Religion is an imperfect savior. Primitive civilizations depended on religion to
explain the workings of the world; they depended on gods to protect their crops and homes from disease, drought, and other disasters far out of
human control. While this dependency provided comfort, it sacrificed individuality. Recent years has seen the rise of alternative forms of media:
novels, digital music, movies. These were not available to previous civilizations. Early Americans only had access to the Bible, which was unreadable
to the average illiterate. Newer forms of media have spurned a nation–wide reflection on the old traditions that were largely set by religion. Ever since
the founding of the colonies, and ever since more diverse forms of self–expression have become more accessible, Americans have grown in
individuality as they have become less dependent on religion. The Puritans were the first of the Europeans to settle in the Americas. While their
traditions have left a profound mark on American culture, their strict ways are rather peculiar. In The Crucible, Arthur Miller critiques Puritan society
as close–minded and obsessed about maintaining conformity. "The parochial snobbery of these people was partly responsible for their failure to
convert the Indians. Probably they also preferred to take land from heathens rather than from fellow Christians" (140). The Puritans revolved their
culture around religion,

What Is The Significance Of Christianity In Things Fall Apart
In Things Fall Apart the reader can see how significant Christianity was in the novel. The Ibos felt they were being attack by their own faith because
the Christians wanted to take away what they felt was true in their culture. In one part of the novel the villagers in Okonkwo's clan, the ibo had taken
revenge on the converts because they were against the British to start a new religion since they were in custom to their religion. Christianity made the
Ibos fall apart because the new religion divided the Ibo culture. It damaged the clan into two different groups such as the converts and the Ibos that did
not believe in Christianity. The villagers were divided by the converts but also Christianity guided the clan to be as one. For this reason,... Show more

The elders went on ahead to give them a piece of the evil forest because the evil forest could kill the missionaries within a limited amount of time.
As a result of the revenge the elders, villagers and Okonkwo decided to give a piece of their land in the evil forest because they did not want them
to overrule them in their clan. As stated in the text "They did not really want them in their clan, and so they made them that offer which nobody in
his right sense would accept, they want a piece from our land to build their shrine, we shall give them a piece of land, let us give them a portion of
the evil forest, let us give them a real battlefield in which to show their victory." The elders, villagers and Okonkwo saw that the missionaries had
placed the church on the evil forest but it did not kill the missionaries as they were intended. Due to their religion of Christianity the Ibos felt that
they were being overruled in their clan so as a result the Ibos last resource was to get revenge out on the missionaries. The villagers also believe that
because of their faith in Christianity they have given power to the converts and made them overrule the Ibos. The Ibos only wanted revenge because
they had taken away their land, power and their faith and made some of the Ibos into converts. In Things Fall Apart it states "They have joined his
religion and they helped uphold his government. If we should try to drive out the white men in Umuofia we should find it easy. But what of our own
people who are following their way and have been given power?" The Ibos believed they had a plan to have a government and make the converts rule

The Religious Conversions of King Clovis I and Emperor...
Throughout history, there have been many instances of leaders converting to new religions, but none have had an impact such as the conversion of
Constantine I, nor as ground–breaking as that of Clovis I. Constantine I was born in the year 280. During his reign as emperor of the Roman Empire,
the state was falling apart. 1 He was the first Roman emperor to convert to Christianity. He called the Council of Nicea in 325 to resolve conflicts
arising between the Arian Christians and the Athansian Christians. 2 This resulted in the canonization of Athansian Christianity, to which Constantine I
converted his empire. 3Clovis I was born in the year 466, he was the king of the Franks and ruled Gaul for 30 years. 4 It is unknown when he
converted to Christianity, however he was baptised in 496. Clovis I was the first Germanic king to convert to Christianity, and while he did not
convert his entire state, his conversion was a turning point in Frankish and European history. Behind any conversion, is a reason. For Constantine I, it
was an empire coming apart at the seams. For Clovis, it was a need to be more palatable to a mostly Christian populous.
While Constantine I ruled the Roman Empire, Christianity became the overriding faith of Rome. 5 While Constantine I had been exposed to
Christianity during childhood through his mother, Helena, he was never a true believer. Many Christian sources write that Constantine received a
revelation in 312 before the Battle of Milvian Bridge.

Religion In The Merchant Of Venice Essay
Religion is used as a rationale for violence, aggression, and mistreatment, because of how it can be a tool for dividing people and dehumanizing the
outgroup. Religion gives these people the belief that their actions are mandated by God, which causes reasonable judgement to be clouded in favor of
easy assumptions and hasty decisions. Some examples of people using their own religious views to wrongfully impose hardships on others are The
Jews and Christians of Venice, and the Spanish in the New World. InThe Merchant of Venice, the religious rift between Jews and Christians causes
mutual mistrust and aggression. In A Brief Account of the Destruction of the Indies by BartolomГ© de las Casas,Christianity is used to justify the

The Hebrew will turn Christian, he grows kind" (221). This quote demonstrates that Antonio associates kindness with Christianity and is shocked when
a Jew shows him some kindness. Much akin to Shylock, Antonio refers to Shylock as a Hebrew, not as a complex person, and therefore dehumanizes
him. Instead of thanking Shylock for his consideration and possibly bridging the gap, Antonio uses religion to further the divide. Despite the fact that
both men have the same profession, a merchant, they still cannot find common ground due to religion. Antonio self–righteously chastises Shylock for
using interest, an economic practice condemned by Christianity. In response, Shylock produces biblical evidence to explain his use of interest as a
Jew. Instead of intellectually considering Shylock's point, Antonio writes him off again, saying that "...the devil can cite scripture for his purpose"
(213). Antonio distrusts and demonizes Shylock solely because of his faith, and the feeling is mutual. Shylock is compared to the devil by Antonio,
implying that he not only despises Shylock, he thinks Shylock is pure evil. The ill–will between Christians and Jews is upheld by their religious
differences. The blatant abuse both men show for each other is nonchalant; they have allowed religion to completely diminish their respect for each
other as human beings.

Applying The New Framework For Hobby Lobby
With the compatibility standard, Congress and the Court can still choose to apply the "least restrictive" method aspect of the Sherbert test but it
becomes almost redundant at this point. Where the Sherbert test assumes that religion and law are at odds such that ensuring government interest must
somehow infringe on free exercise, the compatibility test already assumes that law and religion live together in harmony without overly restricting one
or the other. Because of such an assumption, the least restrictive method as a standard can be, but does not need to be applied.
Applying the new framework to Hobby Lobby reveals how granting the religious exemption to closely held corporations can not only coexist with
the government's interests of making sure female employees have access to the four controversial contraceptives, but it also best ensures this
interest. For the sake of argument, let's first consider what would happen without the exemption. Closely held corporations would have three
choices. They could either ignore their religious convictions, provide incomplete healthcare coverage by paying an extra $100 per day per employee
fee, or offer no coverage and pay $2000 per year per employee (11). However, these companies will almost never choose to ignore their beliefs,
therefore really only giving them the latter two choices. In the event of the second choice, women would be offered no alternative, affordable
healthcare option that grants them access to the

Who Is Achebe's Things Fall Apart?
Although a confluence of factors are responsible for the destruction of Umofian society, Achebe suggests that the real culprits are the missionaries and
the African converts due to the proposition of fighting fellow clan members, the growing discontent in Umofia, and the loss of kinship. This loss of
culture signifies the prospect and reality of change in a society, sporadically provoking annihilation. The correct perspective is that Achebe advocates
that the real culprits are the missionaries and the African converts due to the proposition of fighting fellow clan members. This is seen through Achebe's
question of "How... we can fight when our own brothers have turned against us?"(Achebe 176). By asking a rhetorical question, Achebe implies the
unlikeliness of Umofians to harm fellow clan members because of a detrimental idea. This proposition, thus, instigates fear into ... Show more content

For instance, Achebe argues that "An abominable religion has settled among you. A young man can now leave his father and his brothers" (Achebe
167). By instigating a stereotype of a sagacious, elderly man, Achebe suggests that there is a loss of kinship due to the missionaries' varying traditions.
These customs, consequently, appealed to the outcasts of the Umofian society and lured in many clan members. Additionally, Victor C. Uchendu
insists that "There is a loving reverence for the deceased ancestors...", but now "they are scolded as if they were still living" (Doc D). Document D
emphasizes the contrast of how ancestors used to be revered as and what they were deemed as after many Africans converted. This assimilation into
European culture, thus, undermined the importance of ancestors and fostered a loss of kinship. This loss of kinship, therefore, urges Achebe to
suggest that it is a direct result of the missionaries and the African

In our society today large numbers of people practice some sort of religion. Realizing how many people inhabit the world today it's not hard to believe
that there are literally thousands of religions out there. Making a choice as to what religion you fit into can be a daunting task. Even if you already

that their beliefs are right and everyone else's are wrong or twisted. Also people want the religion they are practicing to be the preferred religion of the

All around this picture there are people floating in the air around the city block. Most of them are floating in the sky above the buildings but some

The Catholic Church 's Stance On Peaceful Conversion
Conversion to Christianity in Medieval Iberia invoked ambivalent feelings among Christians at the time. Christians in the thirteenth and fourteenth
centuries intended to convert Jews and Muslims through kind words and religious teachings from the Bible. This idea of peaceful conversion,
nevertheless, evolved and Christians began converting non–believers through violence and compulsion. Also, even after individuals were converted,
Christians did not always fully trust their motivations, and believed they would revert into their old religions. While Marian miracles did help alleviate
these tensions, thousands of vicious acts were committed against Jews and Muslims during this time period. In this essay, I am going to examine the
idea of conversion from the Christian perspective, and how Christians were able to tempt Jews and Muslims to convert. I am also going to compare the
contradictory nature of conversion through peaceful and violent means. This comparison will showcase how the Roman Catholic Church 's stance on
peaceful conversion was overcome by local Christian communities. Conversion is the act of changing one 's religion to another religion. During the
twelfth to the fifteenth century in Medieval Iberia, a number of Jews and Muslims converted to Christianity. To Christians, "conversions represented the
elimination of dangerous enemies and the ongoing triumph of the 'new Israel. '" Christians viewed themselves as the chosen people, as they believed

Conversion Therapy And Its Effects On The Lgbtq Community
About 30 years ago, homosexuality was declassified as a mental disorder. It would be assumed that treatments for to change homosexuality would end.
However, conversion therapy is still being used today, even our future Vice President, Mike Pence, believes in such treatment. That alone is a huge

Conversion therapy is affecting the LGBTQ+ community greatly. Conversion therapy can be defined as "psychological interventions, from behavioral
methods to psychoanalytic approaches" to change a person's sexuality or gender identity (Hadelman, pg. 202, 2002). This treatment has been proven to

Ibo And Christianity In Things Fall Apart By Chinua Achebe
In the novel, Things Fall Apart, Chinua Achebe discusses two different religions and how both of them affect African tribes. The two religions differ
immensely, as one is the native religion Ibo and the other, a new religion brought to Africa, Christianity. While the novel's main theme of religion
prepares the reader to think that Achebe will be suggesting that the Christians are extremely dangerous, later details in the text suggest that Achebe
considers the reluctance of the tribe to accept Christianity to be an even more destructive issue.
In the novel, Christianity presents a clear and present danger to the tribe. As Christianity moves into the region, the African tribes begin to make
decisions on whether or not they will follow it. Some of the tribe members convert to this new religion, but many do not. When tribe members decide
to convert to Christianity, it gives the missionaries more power and they become stronger. When the Christian missionaries gain power, they are able
to control the tribe and weaken the Ibo religion. The Christian missionaries "built their church in the Evil Forest" (62). The missionaries are also able
to build schools and other Christian centered facilities due to this newfound power. When they build a church in the evil forest, it weakens the tribe
members beliefs and, "That week they won a handful more converts" (62). The members begin to question the Ibo religion because, "The villagers
were so certain about the doom that awaited these men"

A Study of Religion Converts among Muslim Malaysian
Title: A study of religion converts among Muslim Malaysian.
INTRODUCTION
Nowadays, the issue of apostate again had given attention by the mass media, recently. Due to the fact, apostasy among Muslims in the country has
reached a critical level. The number of people born Malay–Muslims who seek to change the original name and the new converts who do not practice
the Islamic way of life or want to return to the religion are increasing year by year. According to Perak Mufti Tan Sri Harussani Zakaria, he mentioning
about the number of apostates has reached about a quarter million during its exposure about how many Muslims converts. Due to the fact that he
stated, many people do not believe and some said it is ridiculous. (Juhaidi Yean Abdullah, 2014)
How we wanted to know that someone can commit apostasy? How we can determine that or accused someone being apostasy? According to Dr.

Research Proposal: Self–Esteem Effects of Minors who Undergo Conversion Therapy
Matt Sklenka
Cleveland State University
Abstract Recently, conversion therapy has been shown to produce harmful effects in adults, including decreased self–esteem. This research proposal
summarizes some of these findings, identifies a gap in the research with minors, and addresses issues related to this gap. Furthermore, a research design
to examine the relationship between minors who undergo conversion therapy and self–esteem is explored and outlined.
Introduction
Conversion therapy consists of those treatments designed to change sexual orientation.
Most often, this is the result of an incongruence between an individual's sexuality and religious or cultural beliefs. In 1973, the American Psychiatric
Association removed homosexuality as a pathological disorder from the DSM (Haldeman, 2001). However, over forty years later, conversion therapy
still continues. In 1998, the A.P.A. rejected the notion of therapies presuming that homosexuality is a pathological illness or disorder (Haldeman,
2001). Furthermore, most people who seek such treatments have been have been negatively impacted by their culture or societal influences and that
many emotional problems can result from practices such as conversion therapy (Haldeman, 2001). The A.P.A.'s 1997 stance on conversion therapy s
that being Gay is not pathological (Haldeman, 2001). The most generous "success" rates given by

Christianity In Japan
Japan has been a home for Shinto and Buddhist religions for centuries. The Christian missionaries during the 16th, 19th and 20th centuries worked hard
to evangelize the Japanese nation but could not get desired success. There efforts in past failed partly due to sanctions imposed by the local rulers. The
Jesuits missionaries traveled with Spanish and Portuguese traders to many areas of America and Asia–Pacific and established their churches and
religious missions. They were funded, sponsored and trained by their respective governments in order to spread Christianity. At several places they

As a missionary, Xavier went to Asia and carried out his missionary activities in India and Malacca. In Malacca he met a Japanese rebel, Anjiro
who urged him to visit Japan. Xavier went to Japan with two other missionaries and started his mission. He confronted some problems because of
the language barrier. The Kodansha's Encyclopedia of Japan describes Xavier's arrival in Japan as, "In 1547 he met in Malacca a Japanese fugitive
named Anjiro, whose glowing account of his naive country fired Xavier with enthusiasm to evangelize Japan. Xavier reached Kagoshima with two
Jesuit companions on 15 August 1549, and with Anjiro as his less than adequate interpreter, he preached Christianity and compiled a simple catechism,
with the result that about 100 people accepted baptism. A year after his arrival Xavier visited Hirado and Yamaguchi, but wishing to obtain permission
to preach throughout Japan, he made his way to Kyoto in an unsuccessful bid to meet Emperor Gonara. He left Japan for India at the end of 1551".
The activities of missionaries were generally supported by the local landlords and rulers who wanted to get monetary benefits from the foreigners. The
main centers where the missionaries were settled include Kyushu, Nagasaki and Honshu. The religion of Jesus was initially taught to ordinary masses
however, by 1563 Omura Sumitada, a daimyo (regional military lord) was converted to the new faith. It was followed by the conversion of six more

Religious Accommodation For Public Schools Essay
Religion Debate Papers
"Freedom of religion includes both the right to manifest beliefs and practices and the right to be free from state coercion or constraint in matters of
religion ()." One of the most controversial places in which freedom of religion manifests itself is the public school. In order to protect freedom of
religion, it is important to make sense of how a school must treat religion so the school does not compromise its role within society. This paper will
establish current rulings on religion in public school and then explore what a religious accommodation is, why it may be necessary, and finally how it
will take shape within the public school system by using a multitude of examples. This paper argues that religious accommodations for students in
public schools are necessary to ensure freedom of religion. However, in order to guarantee that religious accommodation is enforceable and
discernable, it argues for a two–pronged evaluation of each scenario in order to determine the viability of the proposed religious accommodation.
Firstly, the accommodation must not infringe on the education of the other students not included in the accommodation by taking away their rights and
the accommodation must not exempt a student from the education provided by the school. By applying this two–way evaluation system to given
examples it will be concluded that religious freedom must absolutely be protected by way of certain religious accommodations provided that the school

So, it becomes vital to promote Snapdeal as a wholesome brand which people would like to relate themselves with. Hence, it is time we start
portraying it as a well rounded company. Here are a few initiatives

Web Testing Essay
Web testing is a credible method to evaluate the best online promotional and marketing strategies for a business. This tool can be used to test a wide
range of criteria from website copy to sales emails to search ads.
Well–planned web testing produces concrete evidence of a well–planned marketing strategy. Continuously testing different hypotheses will not only
yield good results for conversion rates, but will also give us a better understanding of our customers.
Web Testing
In marketing, website testing is used to study how users react to various changes made on website pages. Tests are meant to show whether or not
conversion rate and revenue can be improved and how to go about it. Web testing equals careful... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, Amazon boosted its profits by moving credit card offers from its home page to the shopping cart page. Such examples that utilized web
testing techniques clearly espouses the idea that tiny changes could have a big impact. In a managerial level, experiments can help managers to
optimize investment based on the potential improvement suggested by these tests. For instance, experiments in the Microsoft Company on its Bing
search engine showed that every 100–millisecond difference in performance had a 0.6% impact on revenue. With Bing's yearly revenue surpassing $3
billion, a 100–millisecond speedup is worth $18 million in annual incremental revenue. Results advocate that investing on a project to improve the
Bing's response time can generate billions of dollars for the company. (Kohavi &Thomke, 2017)
A/B testing is extremely goal–oriented. Before launching an A/B test, we must first decide on the outcome we hope to achieve. The goal might sound
something like this:
Increase the number of free trial signups
More clicks on a paid advertisement
Increase open rates on a welcome email

The Psychology Of Conversion Therapy
What Conversation Therapy Actually Does
While reading "Hard Rock Return to Prison" by Etheridge Knight one may start to think of the effects of correcting or convert someone's behavior to
a more "favorable" one. This idea is present in today's society and to better understand this believe and practice one will have to explore the
psychology of conversion therapy. Conversion Therapy or reparative therapy is a "range of dangerous and discredited practices that falsely claim to
change a person's sexual orientation or gender identity or expression" (Human Rights Campaign). This defines what Hard Rock experiences in this
poem and to further understand and deepen ones understand modern psychology and medicine offer a way of explain this. Through explore the effects
and what happens to someone during correction therapy one can be educated more on Hard Rock.
Conversion therapy which is primary used to convert homosexual or bisexual males and females to become heterosexual has been proven not to work
by many modern day experts in the field of psychology and psychiatry. David Michael Conner, a writer for the Huffington Post in the LGBQ
department, explains conversion therapy as the following "It involves electrocuting and drugging LGBT people to make them suffer while looking at
homosexual pornography in order to "convert" them to heterosexuality" (Conner). Those who are homosexual are tortured in attempts to correct them
of their "illness".
Hard Rock suffered from a problem, which

Things Fall Apart By Chinua Achebe
In Chinua Achebe's Things Fall Apart, Christianity is introduced to a tribal clan through missionaries. The clan, however, has their own religion, which
comprises of a clear social structure. While the mission is beneficial to many members of the clan, others are not content with the new influence. The
Agbala–men with no title–are grateful for the new religion: the mission provides them with a new opportunity to become a respected member of
society. The powerful men are wary of this change, as it decreases their power and status in the society, and allows for more social freedom and
movement. As many in the tribe take to the new religion, the culture is slowly forgotten, causing conflict. When the missionaries enter Umuofia and

A sudden hush had fallen on the women, who had been talking, and they had quickened their steps. Nwoye had heard that twins were put in
earthenware pots and thrown away in the forest, but he had never yet come across them. A vague chill had descended on him and his head had
seemed to swell, like a solitary walker at night who passes an evil spirit on the way."(61) Nwoye realizes that he is powerless in Umuofia. He
cannot save the twins, or himself. Nwoye is drawn to the mission, after being beat by Okonkwo. Feeling forced to live up to Okonkwo's and the
tribe's expectations, Nwoye instead rebels, from his family and the violent practices of the Igbo culture as a whole. Nwoye feels a sense of relief
from the missionaries' song, as lessons the trauma of seeing the abandoned twins and knowing that Ikemefuna was killed. "The words of the hymn
were like drops of frozen rain melting on the dry palate of the panting earth. Nwoye's callow mind was greatly puzzled."(132) Nwoye is relieved and
enlightened when he hears the hymn. He understands the social structure in Umuofia is flawed, and decides to reestablish his life. The missionaries
bring new hope to Nwoye, and to the outcasts of Umuofia. By extracting the outcasts from the society, the missionaries cause social upheaval and
undermine the fabric of Umuofian society. In order for there to be a functioning society in Umuofia,

The Differences Of Constantine And Constantine's...
What is a proselytizer or what are proselytizer? If you are not familiar with the term, it means, "to attempt to convert someone to one's own religious
faith or to persuade someone to join one's own political party or to espouse one's doctrine". So, to make it easier to understand it means someone
helps someone else convert to a belief, either politically or religiously. In Constantine's conversion to Christianity in the 3rd century, was he persuade
by someone or did he just happened to convert unpersuasive? Or in Agathangelos story, History of the Armenians, was Trdat persuaded by Gregory or
were there other factors that persuaded Trdat to convert? In my research I will compare and contrast which stories were similar, which were different,
and how gender even played a role in conversion. In addition I will include how are they portrayed, who are they, are they foreign, did they come with a
goal to convert the king or did it just happen, are they depicted realistically, and what about the stories that didn't have missionary involvement. As we
compare Eusebius's story of the life of Constantine and Argothos, History of the Armenians. Both Kings have some similarities but one deciding factor
is that they both convert differently. As we go through eusebius's account of Constantine, Constantine is convince under his own understanding of what
Christianity is. He converts to christianity by himself. He decides to change after he does his investigation. This only happens after he

Examples Of Masculinity In Okonkwo
Within Ibo culture, masculinity was highly praised whilst femininity was scorned, and being a feminine man was one of the worst things you could
be, especially in the eyes of Okonkwo. He perceived his father to be weak and womanly so he modeled his life after being the opposite of his father.
And he forced this mindset onto his son as well. These toxic ideas of masculinity ultimately backfired, forcing Nwoye away from his father's culture.
Nwoye's response to the missionaries and decision to join their church is a direct result of his father's unhealthy attitudes about how Nwoye should be
and how he should act.

The Christian church had finally won him over with their answers to questions he had been asking his whole life. All that was left was to cut the
ties with his old life, with his father. But his father was the one to make the first move. After learning of his sons visit to the church Okonkwo
grabbed him by the throat in a misguided search for a reason why. "Nwoye struggled to free himself from the choking grip" (page 151) Even when
he has fully lost his son to the new religion, Okonkwo still tries to use violence to mold his son into what he perceives a man should be, which
illustrates the nature of their relationship. It had always been fueled by anger on Okonkwo's part and fear on Nwoye's. It takes people screaming
at him to let his son go for Okonkwo to finally give up, but this attack was the last straw and he was finally able to free himself of his father. "But
he left hold of Nwoye, who walked away and never returned." (page 152) Though Okonkwo did not learn from this experience, Nwoye did. He
learned that his father's violence and anger could no longer control him, and that there was an escape available, though it was an escape to another
culture that he most likely did not fully believe in either but at the very least, this one did not have Okonkwo. "Nwoye did not fully understand. But

Teen Suicide: The Case Of Transgender Youth

case of many LGBTQ+ youth the support of a guardian is essential, especially in the case of transgender youth because they need parental consent to

Religious Conversion: Is It An Adolescent Phenomenon?
Adolescence is a transitional period of physical and psychological human development that begins with the onset of puberty, and ends with the start of
adulthood. This development period typically ranges from ages 10 to 19 in North America (Canadian Paediatric Society, 2014). Adolescence is prime
time in the life cycle for curiosity, searching and discovering oneself; and throughout this independent search and discovery, many teens tend to grow
more curious about where they came from, what their purpose is, and the existence of a god and life beyond Earth (Religious Conversion: Is It an
Adolescent Phenomenon? The Case of Native British Converts to Islam, 2009). Throughout the years of adolescence, individuals experience an

These moral improvements cause adolescents to think, feel and do what they feel is morally right, and also behave in a more caring and less selfish
manner. Although natural maturity is one reason people experience such a significant growth in morality in their adolescent years, the main cause of
this moral growth is the various education programs in schools that focus on the importance of moral action by teaching young students self
discipline, empathy for others, and delayed gratitude. The result of this moral education is adolescents gaining a stronger sense of desire to serve
others and maintain moral attitudes (Myers, 2011). One common lesson that almost all religions teach is that being good is the key to peace,
salvation and enlightenment. I believe the moral action taught in schools is highly responsible for spiking the interest of many young minds around
the world who wish to apply what they have learned about morals into their everyday life, and live for a purpose that will ultimately lead to the
reward of everlasting happiness. This is the second reason I believe many so individuals decide to convert to religion in their adolescent

Abstract
Steve Cowan is the owner of a distribution company of salon hair products. The company, Professional Salon Concepts, (PSC) was growing and
decided to upgrade their AIS to support the demands of the company. Steve hired Mike, his brother–in–law to assist him and the two of them began to
research the different products available believing they could better determine the needs of the company than a consultant could. After a short time they
bought first one and then changing their minds and bought a second system. After a short training period the new system was installed with some very

Missing Features
How could PSC have avoided the problem of the missing features? If PSC had gotten RFPs the problem of missing features in the system they chose
would have been eliminated during the vendor selection process. However, in the route they did take those features that were important to Steve but
were not included in the AIS could have been included by having a systems requirements list and a written contract with the specifications explicitly
written out.
Conversion and Reporting
How could PSC have avoided some of the conversion and reporting problems it faced? As I stated before, more time was needed in the testing and
training portion of the conversion before the new AIS went online. One trick I learned from our own system change at the city I work in is to train a
few operators on the new systems during the testing phase and then have them train a few more in their own departments. By using your own
employees to train each other they are gaining a better understanding of how the system works. This way on the day of the change you have more
people who understand the system and how to fix or correct the things that can go wrong. The more people you can have trained this way before the
system change the better off you will be at the critical moment.

After reading the case, one continues to come up with new problems and issues along the way that are related to information technologies. The three
main problems we encountered in this case are lack of IT knowledge, inappropriate planning, and ineffective and inefficient Resource Management.
Each of these issues requires specific attention to fix the next problem and so forth. The solution to attack each individual problem or issue will be
explained as follows.

Delaying the IT investment on the new system would have been the best option, since it is a good way to maintain costs down.
Solution
MCSS needed to implement a realistic timetable that will give it enough time to test and apply all of the operations functions before the Y2K ordeal.
Now, the MCSS needs to execute the full implementation of the new system immediately before reaching the year 2000. This will prevent all systems
malfunctions. In addition to that, Mr. Lassiter needs to get more people from UNITRAK to come over and work with MCSS personnel to get them
adapted to the new system.
Problem #3 In the organizational structure of MCSS, there was a lack of communication, which failed to address the increasing problems that resulted
in loss of control.
Solution
Mr. Lassiter, being the manager of sales and marketing, should have addressed the entire organization of the new system changes. He did not even
address the full system conversion to several of his own staff members. Also, Mr. Lassiter anticipated Kovecki had studied the documentation, which
he had not. Mr. Lassiter needs to prepare a special meeting with key members of staff

Aversion Therapy Research Paper
Conversion therapy, also known as reparative therapy, is any treatment that aims to change a person's sexual orientation from homosexual to
heterosexual. A heterosexual is a person who is sexually attracted only to people of the opposite sex, and a homosexual is an individual who is
sexually attracted to others of the same sex. There are different ways to go through conversion therapy. Conversion therapists use a range of
approaches that can include general therapy, prayer, hypnosis, or aversion therapy. General therapy can be conducted by people who do not have
psychology degrees, such as people with strong religious affiliation, or people who have underwent the therapy and believe it to be successful.

these therapies range from 11% (complete change in females) to 37% (complete change in males (Spitzer, 2003), it is unclear if participants were
homosexual or bisexual prior to starting therapy in many of these studies. Additionally, "success" in therapy has been defined in various ways– from
complete conversion to heterosexual desires and behavior to continued homosexual attraction in the context of celibacy (Spitzer, 2003; Yarhouse,

How The Roman Catholic Church 's Stance On Peaceful...
Conversion in Medieval Iberia can invoke ambivalent feelings. Christians originally wanted to convert Jews and Muslims through kind words and
religious teachings from the Bible. This idea, nevertheless, evolved over the centuries and Christians began converting non–believers through violence
and compulsion. Also, even after individuals were converted, Christians did not fully trust their motivations, and believed they would remiss into their
old religions. While Marian miracles did help alleviate these tensions, a number of vicious acts were committed against Jews and Muslims during this
time period. In this essay, I am going to examine the idea of conversion from the Christian perspective, and how Christians were able to tempt Jews and
Muslims to convert. I am also going to compare the contradictory nature of converting through peaceful and violent means. This comparison will
showcase how the Roman Catholic Church 's stance on peaceful conversion was overcome by local Christian communities. Conversion is the act of
changing one 's religion to another religion. During the twelfth to fifteenth century in Medieval Iberia, a number of Jews and Muslims converted to
Christianity. To Christians, "conversions represented the elimination of dangerous enemies and the ongoing triumph of the 'new Israel. '" Christians
viewed themselves as the chosen people, as they believed that Jesus Christ died on the cross to save them, and formed a new covenant, while the Jews

Coercion or Conversion Interfaith relationships are complicated on a college campus, because so many religious peoples who want to express and

student groups. An example of this is when a group of students feel that a certain faith is being pushed upon them or they cannot practice their own
religion in peace. We encounter this issue in our case study "Coercion or Conversion? Grappling with Religious Difference at UIC". Our case study
illustrates the fear of several students. The students fear that if this particular religious group joins their interfaith organization, that they will be

argument to be explored, so an unbiased observer can articulate a solution which is best for both groups. At the University of Illinois at Chicago, an

Religion And Its Effect On Society
Religion plays a large role in today's society, it's used to comfort us in our greatest times of need as well as explain seemingly unknowable
questions, such as what is the meaning of life, why are we here, what happens when we die, why do we suffer but now as in the past religion can be a
harmful factor in our society. It has been the cause of wars, witch hunts, and proliferated superstition. Today there are such laws that allow a parent to
deny their child adequate medical care even if it's to treat a potentially life threatening illness. In other cases religion is cited as a reason to deny
someone access to birth control. In school's modern science is at times having to contend with creationism which seems to be a reinterpreting of
modern science and is in complete opposition with established facts. Other times such things as sex education is taught inaccurately which then
leaders to things such as high rates of teen pregnancies and STD's spreading. In other countries these actions are at times more extreme such as
when we hear about suicide bombings, honor killing, and the like. In this paper I will discuss a few of these topics that I find to be pertinent, yet
the topics are many. I will discuss the harms that such actions can cause to us as a society both socially and physically due to such harmful laws, I
will also discuss the social reasons as to why such actions are performed in the first place and why they may be found to be socially acceptable. Lastly

The issues surrounding sexuality and gender nonconforming individuals in the United States have played an increasingly large role in modern politics
since the mid–20th century. These issues, commonly referred to LGBT rights, directly affect the lives of a vast number of American citizens and, as
such, any legislation addressing these issues is public policy. The growing demand for equality among the LGBT community has resulted in a number

Conversion therapy was deemed "unethical" by both the American Psychiatric Association (APA) and theAmerican Psychological Association. The
APA, world's largest professional psychiatric organization and publisher of the DSM, confirmed that "the potential risks of conversion therapy are
great, including depression, anxiety and self–destructive behavior, since therapist alignment with societal prejudices against homosexuality may
reinforce self–hatred already experienced by the patient." (Psychiatry.org) These claims were made evident to the public in the recent suicide of a
transgender girl named Leelah Alcorn. Leelah, whose gender identity was rejected by her heavily religious parents, noted conversion therapy sessions
as a catalyst in her mental decline, which ultimately lead to her untimely death (Fox).
Supporters of conversion therapy argue that, like all other therapies, participation is voluntary and an individual should not be restricted from seeking
it. This argument ignores the fact that many minors are sent conversion therapy against their will. This was the basis for the 2012 lawsuit Pickup v.

The Beginning Of The 19Th Century

  • 1. The Beginning Of The 19th Century The 18th century in America became a time of growth of independence and religious freedoms. People began searching for developing other ways of worship, including revivals, outdoor sermons, and more inclusive baptisms. This enabled more people to experience religion, allowing people to decide for themselves which way of worship was right for them. Along with growing religious independence, the nation itself began to establish itself as a unified entity. The colonies began thinking of independence, away from the control of England. However, one group, enslaved Africans, remained separated and excluded from the nation's unification. The use of slaves, common during this time, established the African race as inferior and almost inhuman.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Wheatley family purchased a young enslaved African girl, who was sent to Boston. Her owners named her Phillis after the ship carrying her overseas. The Wheatley family taught her to read and write, eventually using the King James Bible. Wheatley utilized her education and began writing poetry. At the age of twelve, she published her first poem. Later in 1770, the poem titled "On the Death of the Rev. Mr. George Whitefield" raised international attention. This attention helped Phillis Wheatley publish a book of collected poems in 1773, making her the first African–American to do so, including poems titled "On Being Brought from Africa to America", and "Thoughts on the Works of Providence". Her early education not only focused on literacy, but religion, where it played a large role in her poetry. Writing the elegy for Rev. Mr. George Whitefield, an evangelist preacher who spoke to thousands of people to spread the word of God, portrayed Wheatley's admiration for the preacher she had the opportunity to observe. In this context Phillis Wheatley, was a privileged African American woman. White women faced obstacles obtaining an education. Therefore, enslaved Africans rarely experienced the opportunity of education. Learning to read as an African woman was extremely unlikely let alone writing and speaking to other colonial ... • 2. The Growth Of American Individuality The Growth of American Individuality in Relation to Self–Expression Religion is an imperfect savior. Primitive civilizations depended on religion to explain the workings of the world; they depended on gods to protect their crops and homes from disease, drought, and other disasters far out of human control. While this dependency provided comfort, it sacrificed individuality. Recent years has seen the rise of alternative forms of media: novels, digital music, movies. These were not available to previous civilizations. Early Americans only had access to the Bible, which was unreadable to the average illiterate. Newer forms of media have spurned a nation–wide reflection on the old traditions that were largely set by religion. Ever since the founding of the colonies, and ever since more diverse forms of self–expression have become more accessible, Americans have grown in individuality as they have become less dependent on religion. The Puritans were the first of the Europeans to settle in the Americas. While their traditions have left a profound mark on American culture, their strict ways are rather peculiar. In The Crucible, Arthur Miller critiques Puritan society as close–minded and obsessed about maintaining conformity. "The parochial snobbery of these people was partly responsible for their failure to convert the Indians. Probably they also preferred to take land from heathens rather than from fellow Christians" (140). The Puritans revolved their culture around religion, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. What Is The Significance Of Christianity In Things Fall Apart In Things Fall Apart the reader can see how significant Christianity was in the novel. The Ibos felt they were being attack by their own faith because the Christians wanted to take away what they felt was true in their culture. In one part of the novel the villagers in Okonkwo's clan, the ibo had taken revenge on the converts because they were against the British to start a new religion since they were in custom to their religion. Christianity made the Ibos fall apart because the new religion divided the Ibo culture. It damaged the clan into two different groups such as the converts and the Ibos that did not believe in Christianity. The villagers were divided by the converts but also Christianity guided the clan to be as one. For this reason,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The elders went on ahead to give them a piece of the evil forest because the evil forest could kill the missionaries within a limited amount of time. As a result of the revenge the elders, villagers and Okonkwo decided to give a piece of their land in the evil forest because they did not want them to overrule them in their clan. As stated in the text "They did not really want them in their clan, and so they made them that offer which nobody in his right sense would accept, they want a piece from our land to build their shrine, we shall give them a piece of land, let us give them a portion of the evil forest, let us give them a real battlefield in which to show their victory." The elders, villagers and Okonkwo saw that the missionaries had placed the church on the evil forest but it did not kill the missionaries as they were intended. Due to their religion of Christianity the Ibos felt that they were being overruled in their clan so as a result the Ibos last resource was to get revenge out on the missionaries. The villagers also believe that because of their faith in Christianity they have given power to the converts and made them overrule the Ibos. The Ibos only wanted revenge because they had taken away their land, power and their faith and made some of the Ibos into converts. In Things Fall Apart it states "They have joined his religion and they helped uphold his government. If we should try to drive out the white men in Umuofia we should find it easy. But what of our own people who are following their way and have been given power?" The Ibos believed they had a plan to have a government and make the converts rule of them and so this divided the Ibos and the converts from the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Religious Conversions of King Clovis I and Emperor... Throughout history, there have been many instances of leaders converting to new religions, but none have had an impact such as the conversion of Constantine I, nor as ground–breaking as that of Clovis I. Constantine I was born in the year 280. During his reign as emperor of the Roman Empire, the state was falling apart. 1 He was the first Roman emperor to convert to Christianity. He called the Council of Nicea in 325 to resolve conflicts arising between the Arian Christians and the Athansian Christians. 2 This resulted in the canonization of Athansian Christianity, to which Constantine I converted his empire. 3Clovis I was born in the year 466, he was the king of the Franks and ruled Gaul for 30 years. 4 It is unknown when he converted to Christianity, however he was baptised in 496. Clovis I was the first Germanic king to convert to Christianity, and while he did not convert his entire state, his conversion was a turning point in Frankish and European history. Behind any conversion, is a reason. For Constantine I, it was an empire coming apart at the seams. For Clovis, it was a need to be more palatable to a mostly Christian populous. While Constantine I ruled the Roman Empire, Christianity became the overriding faith of Rome. 5 While Constantine I had been exposed to Christianity during childhood through his mother, Helena, he was never a true believer. Many Christian sources write that Constantine received a revelation in 312 before the Battle of Milvian Bridge. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Religion In The Merchant Of Venice Essay Religion is used as a rationale for violence, aggression, and mistreatment, because of how it can be a tool for dividing people and dehumanizing the outgroup. Religion gives these people the belief that their actions are mandated by God, which causes reasonable judgement to be clouded in favor of easy assumptions and hasty decisions. Some examples of people using their own religious views to wrongfully impose hardships on others are The Jews and Christians of Venice, and the Spanish in the New World. InThe Merchant of Venice, the religious rift between Jews and Christians causes mutual mistrust and aggression. In A Brief Account of the Destruction of the Indies by BartolomГ© de las Casas,Christianity is used to justify the unspeakable ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Hebrew will turn Christian, he grows kind" (221). This quote demonstrates that Antonio associates kindness with Christianity and is shocked when a Jew shows him some kindness. Much akin to Shylock, Antonio refers to Shylock as a Hebrew, not as a complex person, and therefore dehumanizes him. Instead of thanking Shylock for his consideration and possibly bridging the gap, Antonio uses religion to further the divide. Despite the fact that both men have the same profession, a merchant, they still cannot find common ground due to religion. Antonio self–righteously chastises Shylock for using interest, an economic practice condemned by Christianity. In response, Shylock produces biblical evidence to explain his use of interest as a Jew. Instead of intellectually considering Shylock's point, Antonio writes him off again, saying that "...the devil can cite scripture for his purpose" (213). Antonio distrusts and demonizes Shylock solely because of his faith, and the feeling is mutual. Shylock is compared to the devil by Antonio, implying that he not only despises Shylock, he thinks Shylock is pure evil. The ill–will between Christians and Jews is upheld by their religious differences. The blatant abuse both men show for each other is nonchalant; they have allowed religion to completely diminish their respect for each other as human beings. Spanish colonization of the New World allowed for violence and mistreatment of the natives under the pretext of converting ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Applying The New Framework For Hobby Lobby With the compatibility standard, Congress and the Court can still choose to apply the "least restrictive" method aspect of the Sherbert test but it becomes almost redundant at this point. Where the Sherbert test assumes that religion and law are at odds such that ensuring government interest must somehow infringe on free exercise, the compatibility test already assumes that law and religion live together in harmony without overly restricting one or the other. Because of such an assumption, the least restrictive method as a standard can be, but does not need to be applied. Applying the new framework to Hobby Lobby reveals how granting the religious exemption to closely held corporations can not only coexist with the government's interests of making sure female employees have access to the four controversial contraceptives, but it also best ensures this interest. For the sake of argument, let's first consider what would happen without the exemption. Closely held corporations would have three choices. They could either ignore their religious convictions, provide incomplete healthcare coverage by paying an extra $100 per day per employee fee, or offer no coverage and pay $2000 per year per employee (11). However, these companies will almost never choose to ignore their beliefs, therefore really only giving them the latter two choices. In the event of the second choice, women would be offered no alternative, affordable healthcare option that grants them access to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Who Is Achebe's Things Fall Apart? Although a confluence of factors are responsible for the destruction of Umofian society, Achebe suggests that the real culprits are the missionaries and the African converts due to the proposition of fighting fellow clan members, the growing discontent in Umofia, and the loss of kinship. This loss of culture signifies the prospect and reality of change in a society, sporadically provoking annihilation. The correct perspective is that Achebe advocates that the real culprits are the missionaries and the African converts due to the proposition of fighting fellow clan members. This is seen through Achebe's question of "How... we can fight when our own brothers have turned against us?"(Achebe 176). By asking a rhetorical question, Achebe implies the unlikeliness of Umofians to harm fellow clan members because of a detrimental idea. This proposition, thus, instigates fear into ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For instance, Achebe argues that "An abominable religion has settled among you. A young man can now leave his father and his brothers" (Achebe 167). By instigating a stereotype of a sagacious, elderly man, Achebe suggests that there is a loss of kinship due to the missionaries' varying traditions. These customs, consequently, appealed to the outcasts of the Umofian society and lured in many clan members. Additionally, Victor C. Uchendu insists that "There is a loving reverence for the deceased ancestors...", but now "they are scolded as if they were still living" (Doc D). Document D emphasizes the contrast of how ancestors used to be revered as and what they were deemed as after many Africans converted. This assimilation into European culture, thus, undermined the importance of ancestors and fostered a loss of kinship. This loss of kinship, therefore, urges Achebe to suggest that it is a direct result of the missionaries and the African ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Analyzing an Advertisement for a Book of the Christian Faith Analyzing an Advertisement for a Book of the Christian Faith In our society today large numbers of people practice some sort of religion. Realizing how many people inhabit the world today it's not hard to believe that there are literally thousands of religions out there. Making a choice as to what religion you fit into can be a daunting task. Even if you already practice a set religion sometimes its hard to know if you are putting your faith in the right hands so to speak. People get into a religion and they think that their beliefs are right and everyone else's are wrong or twisted. Also people want the religion they are practicing to be the preferred religion of the country or of the world. So from the beginning of history people have ... • 11. The Catholic Church 's Stance On Peaceful Conversion Conversion to Christianity in Medieval Iberia invoked ambivalent feelings among Christians at the time. Christians in the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries intended to convert Jews and Muslims through kind words and religious teachings from the Bible. This idea of peaceful conversion, nevertheless, evolved and Christians began converting non–believers through violence and compulsion. Also, even after individuals were converted, Christians did not always fully trust their motivations, and believed they would revert into their old religions. While Marian miracles did help alleviate these tensions, thousands of vicious acts were committed against Jews and Muslims during this time period. In this essay, I am going to examine the idea of conversion from the Christian perspective, and how Christians were able to tempt Jews and Muslims to convert. I am also going to compare the contradictory nature of conversion through peaceful and violent means. This comparison will showcase how the Roman Catholic Church 's stance on peaceful conversion was overcome by local Christian communities. Conversion is the act of changing one 's religion to another religion. During the twelfth to the fifteenth century in Medieval Iberia, a number of Jews and Muslims converted to Christianity. To Christians, "conversions represented the elimination of dangerous enemies and the ongoing triumph of the 'new Israel. '" Christians viewed themselves as the chosen people, as they believed that Jesus Christ ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Conversion therapy is affecting the LGBTQ+ community greatly. Conversion therapy can be defined as "psychological interventions, from behavioral methods to psychoanalytic approaches" to change a person's sexuality or gender identity (Hadelman, pg. 202, 2002). Love in Action, which was one of the first religious based organizations to participate in conversion therapy, was founded in 1973. By 1976, Exodus, a national coalition of ex–gay ministries was founded. There were hundreds of participates over the years and most went back to homosexual life. Interestingly enough, ex–gay ministries do not keep statistics on the success of their work. However, outside observers founded that "at least two–thirds of those in such groups give up within two years, and that over seventy–five percent of ex–gay organizations fail within five years" (Baxter, pg. 2, 2015). There are also no peer–reviewed articles that display any kind of success with conversion therapy. Even the cases that ex–gay ministries consider a person "cure" is when that person is asexual and refrains from any sexual encounters. This in turn is only a change in behavior, not sexual orientation. Giving ex–gay ministries any type of push forward is Most practitioners reject the idea of conversion therapy. • 13. Ibo And Christianity In Things Fall Apart By Chinua Achebe In the novel, Things Fall Apart, Chinua Achebe discusses two different religions and how both of them affect African tribes. The two religions differ immensely, as one is the native religion Ibo and the other, a new religion brought to Africa, Christianity. While the novel's main theme of religion prepares the reader to think that Achebe will be suggesting that the Christians are extremely dangerous, later details in the text suggest that Achebe considers the reluctance of the tribe to accept Christianity to be an even more destructive issue. In the novel, Christianity presents a clear and present danger to the tribe. As Christianity moves into the region, the African tribes begin to make decisions on whether or not they will follow it. Some of the tribe members convert to this new religion, but many do not. When tribe members decide to convert to Christianity, it gives the missionaries more power and they become stronger. When the Christian missionaries gain power, they are able to control the tribe and weaken the Ibo religion. The Christian missionaries "built their church in the Evil Forest" (62). The missionaries are also able to build schools and other Christian centered facilities due to this newfound power. When they build a church in the evil forest, it weakens the tribe members beliefs and, "That week they won a handful more converts" (62). The members begin to question the Ibo religion because, "The villagers were so certain about the doom that awaited these men" ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Research Proposal: Self–Esteem Effects of Minors who Undergo Conversion Therapy Matt Sklenka Cleveland State University Abstract Recently, conversion therapy has been shown to produce harmful effects in adults, including decreased self–esteem. This research proposal summarizes some of these findings, identifies a gap in the research with minors, and addresses issues related to this gap. Furthermore, a research design to examine the relationship between minors who undergo conversion therapy and self–esteem is explored and outlined. Introduction Conversion therapy consists of those treatments designed to change sexual orientation. Most often, this is the result of an incongruence between an individual's sexuality and religious or cultural beliefs. In 1973, the American Psychiatric Association removed homosexuality as a pathological disorder from the DSM (Haldeman, 2001). However, over forty years later, conversion therapy still continues. In 1998, the A.P.A. rejected the notion of therapies presuming that homosexuality is a pathological illness or disorder (Haldeman, 2001). Furthermore, most people who seek such treatments have been have been negatively impacted by their culture or societal influences and that many emotional problems can result from practices such as conversion therapy (Haldeman, 2001). The A.P.A.'s 1997 stance on conversion therapy s that being Gay is not pathological (Haldeman, 2001). The most generous "success" rates given by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Christian missionaries during the 16th, 19th and 20th centuries worked hard to evangelize the Japanese nation but could not get desired success. There efforts in past failed partly due to sanctions imposed by the local rulers. The Jesuits missionaries traveled with Spanish and Portuguese traders to many areas of America and Asia–Pacific and established their churches and religious missions. The Kodansha's Encyclopedia of Japan describes Xavier's arrival in Japan as, "In 1547 he met in Malacca a Japanese fugitive named Anjiro, whose glowing account of his naive country fired Xavier with enthusiasm to evangelize Japan. Xavier reached Kagoshima with two Jesuit companions on 15 August 1549, and with Anjiro as his less than adequate interpreter, he preached Christianity and compiled a simple catechism, with the result that about 100 people accepted baptism. A year after his arrival Xavier visited Hirado and Yamaguchi, but wishing to obtain permission to preach throughout Japan, he made his way to Kyoto in an unsuccessful bid to meet Emperor Gonara. He left Japan for India at the end of 1551". The activities of missionaries were generally supported by the local landlords and rulers who wanted to get monetary benefits from the foreigners. The main centers where the missionaries were settled include Kyushu, Nagasaki and Honshu. • 18. Religious Accommodation For Public Schools Essay Religion Debate Papers "Freedom of religion includes both the right to manifest beliefs and practices and the right to be free from state coercion or constraint in matters of religion ()." One of the most controversial places in which freedom of religion manifests itself is the public school. In order to protect freedom of religion, it is important to make sense of how a school must treat religion so the school does not compromise its role within society. This paper will establish current rulings on religion in public school and then explore what a religious accommodation is, why it may be necessary, and finally how it will take shape within the public school system by using a multitude of examples. This paper argues that religious accommodations for students in public schools are necessary to ensure freedom of religion. However, in order to guarantee that religious accommodation is enforceable and discernable, it argues for a two–pronged evaluation of each scenario in order to determine the viability of the proposed religious accommodation. Firstly, the accommodation must not infringe on the education of the other students not included in the accommodation by taking away their rights and the accommodation must not exempt a student from the education provided by the school. By applying this two–way evaluation system to given examples it will be concluded that religious freedom must absolutely be protected by way of certain religious accommodations provided that the school is ... The result of this moral education is adolescents gaining a stronger sense of desire to serve others and maintain moral attitudes (Myers, 2011). One common lesson that almost all religions teach is that being good is the key to peace, salvation and enlightenment. In this essay, I am going to examine the idea of conversion from the Christian perspective, and how Christians were able to tempt Jews and Muslims to convert. I am also going to compare the contradictory nature of converting through peaceful and violent means. This comparison will showcase how the Roman Catholic Church 's stance on peaceful conversion was overcome by local Christian communities. To Christians, "conversions represented the elimination of dangerous enemies and the ongoing triumph of the 'new Israel. '" Christians viewed themselves as the chosen people, as they believed that Jesus Christ died on the cross to save them, and formed a new covenant, while the Jews spurned him and ... Religion And Its Effect On Society Religion plays a large role in today's society, it's used to comfort us in our greatest times of need as well as explain seemingly unknowable questions, such as what is the meaning of life, why are we here, what happens when we die, why do we suffer but now as in the past religion can be a harmful factor in our society. It has been the cause of wars, witch hunts, and proliferated superstition. In other cases religion is cited as a reason to deny someone access to birth control. In school's modern science is at times having to contend with creationism which seems to be a reinterpreting of modern science and is in complete opposition with established facts. Other times such things as sex education is taught inaccurately which then leaders to things such as high rates of teen pregnancies and STD's spreading. In other countries these actions are at times more extreme such as when we hear about suicide bombings, honor killing, and the like. In this paper I will discuss a few of these topics that I find to be pertinent, yet the topics are many. I will discuss the harms that such actions can cause to us as a society both socially and physically due to such harmful laws, I will also discuss the social reasons as to why such actions are performed in the first place and why they may be found to be socially acceptable. Lastly I will speak ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These issues, commonly referred to LGBT rights, directly affect the lives of a vast number of American citizens and, as such, any legislation addressing these issues is public policy. Leelah, whose gender identity was rejected by her heavily religious parents, noted conversion therapy sessions as a catalyst in her mental decline, which ultimately lead to her untimely death (Fox). Supporters of conversion therapy argue that, like all other therapies, participation is voluntary and an individual should not be restricted from seeking it. This argument ignores the fact that many minors are sent conversion therapy against their will. This was the basis for the 2012 lawsuit Pickup v. Brown, in which the plaintiff, a conversion therapist, argued that the California ban on conversion therapy for minors violated an individual's First Amendment right, among others (Pickup). A unanimous decision upheld the ban, citing the 1979 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
