This is a Three year course and the name of the course shall be Bachelor of Commerce
(Accounting and Finance).
Course Description
This program provides professional education for those wishing to become accounting
and finance professionals. It has a strong emphasis on developing analytical skills and
offers a solid grounding and professional competence in all aspects of accounting and
finance.
Objectives
To provide the students with strong foundation in contemporary practices of accounting
and finance. To provide the students a comprehensive understanding of their discipline
and be able to provide discipline based solutions relevant to the business, professional
and public policy communities that we serve. To mould the students to become creative
who produce innovative solutions to problems, apply research skills to business
challenges and communicate effectively and perceptively. To contribute to the overall
professional development of the student with demonstrated commitment to life-long
learning and make them responsible citizens who demonstrate ethical values.
Learning Outcomes
The primary learning objective of this course is to inform students that accounting is
an information development and communication function that supports economic
decision making. To support this basic objective the student should:
1. Understand the elements, uses, and limitations of each financial statement and the
relationships among the statements
2. Develop an understanding of the framework of accounting and the concepts,
principles, and procedures that govern how the financial statements are prepared.
3. Understand how financial information, primarily that provided by the financial
statements, can be used to analyze business operations and make economic
decisions.
4. Identify the basic principles used in safeguarding assets and insuring the accuracy
of accounting records
5. Appreciate the role accounting software applications play in gathering, recording,
reporting and interpreting financial accounting information.
