8. Differences between Conferences and Journals:
Journals:
Journals, Transactions, and Letters are the primary means for
publishing technical papers concerning original work.
Conferences:
Researchers, academicians and other types of experts in a field of study
frequently gather together to discuss their specialized area of interest
and to read out up-to-the-minute papers about their current research
in progress to each other. Conference papers can be less important or
less valuable than peer reviewed journal articles.
Journal Impact Factor (IF): Measure of frequency with which
the “average article” in a journal has been cited in a particular
year or period.
9. Literature Survey:
1. Literature search
2. Literature Acquisition/Collection
3. Critical study or review of the literature
Tracking back from the references of recent paper – Snow ball method
Abstracting and indexing Journals – Manual search
IF Abstract – THEN – Full length paper
Read all the published papers/reports etc. Get the awareness of an
adequate body of knowledge.
It builds the ability to apply that knowledge to research work
Thesis Context: What related work is being undertaken
10. Focused research work for the problem solution…
Simulation Software: MATLAB/SIMULINK,
PSIM,
PSCAD,
SABER
Experimental Validation: Analog controller based control,
Digital controller based control,
Hardware Simulators
14. Plagiarism – Ethical writing:
Scientific ethical writing demands clarity and conciseness,
accuracy,
and honesty.
Taking over the ideas, methods, or written words of others, without
acknowledgement and presenting them as one’s own.
Plagiarism is the most widely recognized and one of the most serious
violations of the contract between the reader and writer.
Redundant Publication: The publication of same paper in more than
one journal, but without any indication that the paper has been published
elsewhere.
15. Plagiarism – Ethical writing . . . . :
An idea claimed by its author to be completely original, may have
actually been articulated earlier by someone else
Unconscious plagiarism: Individuals previously exposed to others’
ideas will often remember the idea, but not its source, and mistakenly
believe that they themselves originated the idea.
Plagiarism of text: Copying a portion of the text from another source
without giving credit to its author and without enclosing the borrowed
text in quotation marks.
Mosaic plagiarism: Copying a portion of text from one or more sources,
inserting and/or deleting some of the words, or substituting some words
with synonyms, but never giving credit to its author
16. Research Topics: Linear, non-linear (Adaptive) control strategies
