1. Job Roles In Radio
Creative Producer: Creative producers create radio advertising and station promotions for
radio stations. They work with writers to producer ideas, write scripts , and manage client
briefings. They may sometimes also cast actors for a radio advert, and chose the music to be
played , in the adverts , as well as edit and produce the adverts. Creative Producers will
work well with their colleagues who work in marketing, sponsorship, and promotion , to
help them define their audience and make sure that the adverts they create , are targeted
to that audience.
Production Engineer(Sound): Production Engineers maintain and operate the electronics
and broadcasting equipment in a radio station. This means they monitor or fix cables , wire
electronic equipment inside the radio station , design the layout of equipment and to make
sure there’s a clear transmission between the antennas and broadcast towers so the radio
shows are broadcasted clearly for the audience to hear it.
Copywriter: Copywriters right the scripts for the adverts and radio shows. Copywriters
work in advertising and they write adverts for different companies. Copywriters do
something called a writing test where radio stations come up with a brief of what adverts
they want the copywriters to come up with and then they choose the one they thing will
suit the brief.
Voice Over Artist: A voice over artist is an actor which the radio station will hire to do a
voice over for the advert they want. They will cast auditions for the voice over artist and get
them to read the script for the advert and see which one they prefer to be the voice over
actor for the advert. Sometimes they will ask the voice over actor to do an accent, to go
with the product their making the advert for.
Recording Artist : A recording artist will be hired by the radio station to play or come up
with a piece of music for an advert. The radio stations producers will give the recording
artists a script, and tell them what the product they are making the advert for is. This will
give the recording artist an idea of what piece of music they can come up with. If the radio
stations wish to use an artist’s existing music to use then they have to contact the artists
themselves or the record label to ask for the permission to use it. If the radio station then
has permission to use it the radio station will pay the artists something called royalties ,
which is the payment radio stations, give to artists when the use their music.
