Natalie Portman Research Paper
"I don't love studying. I hate studying. I like learning. Learning is beautiful." – Natalie Portman.
Natalie Portman's quote is one to live by. She is an amazing actress, and a very interesting woman. I chose to wright my paper on her because she is
smart, and everything I have learned about her is attention grabbing. She shares a birthday day with my daughter! Which I think is cool. I love her
movies. My favorite is: Where the Heart is. Within this paper I'm going to be addressing her obstacles to becoming a successful actress. Also the
importance of her education, and tips and inspirations that Natalie can inspire that I can apply to my education and professional success. When I first
started reading about Natalie Portman, I had kind of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She went to public school from 8th– 12th grade, she graduated in 1999. She had a very strict schedule when she was preforming. She would go to
school for her first three classes, go to her rehearsal, would be tutored during her hour lunch, after rehearsal, and before and after rehearsals on
Saturdays and Sundays. She had two of her high school papers published in many scientific journals. For the first time Natalie Portman found
herself bored over the summer between high school and college, so she did the movie Where the Heart is. When she stated this just after moving
out of her family home and into her dorm room: "I'm going from living dependent on other people to making my own movement to take care of
myself and in turn take care of others. You discover that not everyone's good and people will disappoint you. It's disillusioning. But rather than
think everyone evil, you say, 'I've got to be more careful,' and there are people I can find who will be true friends." (Boston Herald 4/2000). She went
to Harvard University class of 2003, and graduated with a degree in psychology. At the age of 30 she had a family started, just won her first Oscar,
which makes her the first Harvard alum to win an

Tuck Everlasting Essay
Have you ever wondered why books seem to always be better than movies based on that book? Well I am here to tell you why. The example I will
focus on is Natalie Babbitt's Tuck Everlasting vs Disney's interpretation of Tuck Everlasting. I prefer Natalie Babbitt's Tuck Everlasting over Disney's
Tuck Everlasting because of the imagery, the suspense, and the characterization.
One example of the imagery being better in the book is the forest. In the book the forest sounds big and beautiful. But, in the movie the forest is quite
overgrown and there was not as much wildlife as I expected. Even though the forest wasn't as beautiful as the book portrayed it, it is still quite an
amazing sight. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the book Winnie's parents were less interested in finding their daughter than in the movie. I liked this because it made Winnie have another
reason to run away. Also, in the book the parents were quicker to give up the spring to the man in the yellow suit. Another example of why the
book has better characterization than the movie is Winnie. Winnie was five years younger in the book which gave her time to mature and grow
throughout the book. As opposed to in the movie where Winnie was 15 and she did not have as much room to mature and grow. Another aspect of
Winnie that was better in the book was her relationship with Jesse. In the book there wasn't as much romance between Winnie and Jesse which I
liked because honestly, in the movie, I thought their relationship was an unnecessary side note. The final reason that the characterization was better
in the book was the Tucks. In the movie, all the Tuck's opinions were generalized and we didn't get to hear each Tuck's opinion as much as in the
book. An example of this is Miles's and Jesse's views on immortality, in the movie we didn't get to hear their differing opinions on immortality as
opposed to the book where we herd both their opinions.
As you can see Natalie Babbitt's book Tuck Everlasting is much better than Disney's rendition of Tuck Everlasting for three key points. These points
were the imagery, the suspense and the characterization. You might

He had finished with his business in Anchorage, so he decided to catch a plane back to Portland a few days early. He was going to surprise Natalie.
Take her out to an early dinner; Champagne and candlelight, back to their place for a night of love making, slip the ring into her breakfast and ask her
to be his forever.
It was going to be the perfect surprise. He would make sure of it. But first, he needed to take a shower and change out of his traveling clothes.
He was surprised to see her car parked in the driveway to their home, since she was normally out at this time of day. There was another car there too.

"Apparently watching you fuck another man." He said coolly as he glared at this intruder. He says coolly, again how is he so composed? I 'm not
saying he shouldn 't be, but why is he? Past actions on Nat 's part? Him being hurt before? Or is he simply a stoic type of man?

"Daniel, wait. Let me explain. Don't be rash, don't do this." Natalie pleaded, chasing after him.
"Natalie, there is NOTHING to explain. I saw you! Don't you get it? I watched you scream his name as you rode him, as he took you again. As he

Be Specific Natalie Goldberg Analysis
In her work Be Specific, Natalie Goldberg discusses the importance of specification in writing. By taking the time to put more thought into word
choice and details in a person's writing, they are more likely to create a more vivid and realistic image in his/her reader's mind. Although this may be
beneficial to some readers, others may argue that the mystery allows the reader to apply the story to his/her own life, allowing each reader to have a
unique experience. Goldberg's ideas on being specific can help writers who struggle with gaining connection to their audiences. Unsupportive of
generic descriptions, Goldberg encourages writers to draw from the world around them to make their stories more animated and lively. Goldberg's
audience is everyone: both reader and writer. Most people can think about a time an author described something in such superb detail that the reader
could picture themselves in the scene. Moreover, there have been literary moments when the reader must fill in the details him/herself and make up
what the scene looks like. A great example of this is when thinking about... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This can help the reader know exactly what type of tree the writer is intending for the reader to envision. This style of writing can be important when
writing factual and direct information However, this could in turn shut out the chance of the reader to use his/her imagination and think of a tree on
their own in creative and fictional writing. Although a silly example, it makes more sense put in context. If the author is describing a beauty oak tree
that the main character played in, a reader may think back to his/her childhood and building a tree house with their grandfather in the large oak in the
backyard. This is an extremely specific example and automatically narrows down the number of people the message resonates

Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbitt In the book Tuck Everlasting the characters are Winnifred Foster, her dad mom and grandma. The Tuck family is
Angus Tuck, Jesse Tuck, Miles Tuck, and their mom. Winnifred was "kidnapped" by the tucks because she saw Jesse drink from the fountain of youth.
When the tucks kidnapped her, they treat her like family and does not harm her. The man in the yellow suit is watching and he knows what is
happening to Winne, he tells Winifred's parents and he tries to trade the information for the wood with the fountain. The Foster family does not know
that the fountain of youth is there in the woods. In the movie Tuck Everlasting Winnifred is going to be shipped off to a school 300 miles away and she

Imagine this, it's noon and you're outside on a beautifully sunny day. Everything is going perfectly swell until suddenly you're swallowed by an
unexpected wave of blistering hot air. You black out and moments, maybe hours later, you regain your conscience and find yourself stranded
somewhere in an unnaturally gorgeous island. That's practically the story of everyone who finds themselves on an island called Nil, and everyone
who finds themselves on the mysterious island has exactly a year to leave before they die. On this pretty little island was a girl named Natalie. She
was a veteran on Nil and had priority. Having priority meant that you... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Along with her grief over Kevin, Natalie begins to bring up some false beliefs. She starts to believe in outrageous predictions created by another
girl named Ramia. Like the one she made for Li after she died. "That creepy song Ramia sang on her last Nil Night. 'To Nil we come, from Nil
some go, and some like me will stay.' If you change 'me' to 'Li,' it fits." And Natalie brings up Ramia again when the same girl who tried to steal her
gate dies on her bed. "I let you put her in my bed! I didn't stay with you, and when I went inside the hut to check on her, she was dead." She then
blames herself for someone else's death. "Ramia warned me, Thad. And I blew it." Natalie also becomes certain that Charlie's theory about gate
appearances is true, giving her hope for something that could be entirely incorrect. Charlie mentions this in chapter thirty–five, "I only brought up my
idea of how the gates might roll in sequence because Jason looked so darn upset when a gate didn't flash, and I wanted Natalie to have a ray of hope.
But she ran with it like it was solid, like it was more than a theory." Natalie also tells Charlie about her

Tuck Everlasting Point Of View
Time moves forward, and only forward. It's a circle – we are born, raised, we live, then we die. But have you ever imagined what would happen if you
were endowed with immortality? What if you could not die no matter how many decades had passed, while the world around you keeps changing and
everyone else keeps aging? Would it be wonderful to live forever like that? Then you should take a look atTuck Everlasting, a novel written by Natalie
Babbitt in 1975 which focuses on the negative side of immortality.
The narrative point of view used in the novel is the third person omniscient, like most of the stories we were told as children. Our narrator, the author,
knows everything. She can zoom in and out on all the characters, jump from place to place, and even read the thoughts of the main characters. The
Prologue tells us all:
"At dawn, Mae Tuck set out on her horse..."
"At noontime, Winnie Foster, whose family owned the Treegap wood,..."
"And at sunset a stranger appeared at the Fosters' gate."
There is no connection among them. But these are the three main storylines, and the narrator knows them all. This point of view really fits a story with
lots of characters, that spans many years and has different settings like Tuck Everlasting. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

"plain, homely house" with a "charming disarray," and its inhabitants are friendly and ostensibly prioritize human relationships above meticulous
property maintenance. In contrast to the disorganized and messy property of the Tucks, the Fosters' house is guarded by a heavy iron gate and a sign
informing visitors they are unwelcome. Everything is neatly maintained and in its proper

Natalie Carne Quotes
Autism is a disability that you are not born with but may cause social, communication, and behavioral challenges. In the book Al Capone Does My
Shirts by Gennifer Choldenko there is a young girl named Natalie. Natalie repeats words and phrases verbatim, fixates on objects or activities with
abnormal intensity or focus, and fails to respond to her name or appears not to hear people at times. These three symptoms cause some readers to
believe Natalie has autism.
In the book Natalie shows the social communication and interaction symptom, repeats words and phrases verbatim. On page 206 Natalie's father
says, "'No she's not mad at you honey! You did everything right, Natalie.' ' Not mad at you honey,' Natalie says." Also, on page 7 and 8 Natalie's
mother says, "' Your father has two jobs here Moose, electrician and guard.' 'Two' Natalie calls from the living room. 'Two jobs. Two.'" Again, on
page 5, Moose, Natalie's brother says, "' you're going to this nice place called Esther P. Marinoff.' I try to sound sincere. ' Nice place,' she repeats."
These three quotes show that Natalie repeats words and phrases verbatim ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

hear him. On page 20 it says,"' we gotta go back' I tell Natalie. She doesn't look up, doesn't seem to hear." This shows Natalie fails to respond to her
name or appears not to hear people at times because it straight up says," doesn't seem to notice," after Moose told her something. Lastly on page 68 it

The Return of Martin Guerre The Return of Martin Guerre by Natalie Zemon Davis is a construction to question how the identity of peasants were
formed and reformed. The peasants who chose to migrate often decided to conform to the local customs; thus, changing their identities as well. This is
the case with the Guerre family when they relocated from their family home in Hendaye to Artigat. It is never truly discussed as to why the Guerre
family chose to leave their ancestral home in Hendaye except of the chance for further economic prosperity. The Return of Martin Guerre focuses on the
disappearance of Martin Guerre, and the imposter Arnaud du Tilh, who stole his life at home and nearly... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Pansette worked diligently to accomplish his quest for a new life. He did not immediately go to Artigat and establish himself. Pansette worked his way
through the grapevines of society to figure out who Martin Guerre was and studied to become him. Once the news spread that Martin Guerre had
returned, the Guerre family flocked to Pansette and shared past stories of their time with Martin. The unknowing contributions of Martin's sisters, wife,
and uncle helped to establish Pansette's new identity. Pansette demonstrated nothing more than a self–interested deception of the Guerre family.
However, his skills to adapt to his life as Martin Guerre is unquestionable. Judge Coras' account of the trial stated, "Arnaud du Tilh's prodigious
qualities are built up by comparison with biblical, classical, and more recent imposters." This account amplifies Pansette's skills as an imposter and

immortal and finds out it's not very fun living forever, their names are Angus, Mae, Miles, and Jesse. In the book, Winnie is sick of being treated
like a baby so she decides to run away. She goes to the wood where she finds a water fountain and 17–year–old Jesse Tuck drinking from it she
instantly falls in love with him. She wants to drink from the water fountain but Jesse wouldn't let her so he kidnaps her and takes her to Angus and
Mae's house where the Tuck family tells Winnie that if she drinks from the fountain she will become immortal like them. Before Winnie ran away

Natalie Gilroy Biography
I. Introduction
The only daughter of Gilroy and Gladys Campbell, Natalie grew up in a middle class family from San Francisco, California. Gilroy worked as a
college professor and Gladys was a secretary. Her father was super strict to a point where she were left to play in their own yard while the other
children were outside on the streets. But that was fine for Natalie as she took an early liking to reading books. Once in a while, she would stand over
the fence and talk to their neighbor, Alison, a woman on her sixties who entertained her with stories of World War II. Alison was the closest thing she
got for a childhood bestfriend.

like she'd enter a tedious cycle with Kenneth.
A few months before that, her father died of a heart attack. And it was just easier for her to move the kids to live with hermother. Kenneth didn't fight

Do you know a book called Tuck Everlasting which is written by Natalie Babbitt existed in this world? It is a very interesting novel with a very sad
ending. It's a story about a girl, who discovered a very dangerous secret about a particular spring water. When you drink the water, it makes you
immortal. A movie on this book was produced later on. Things change when you have to audition something that is written. And so, the movieTuck
Everlasting was very different from the book Tuck Everlasting. Winnie Foster, a ten–year–old girl, discovered a very dangerous secret about the spring

Soon, they became deeply in love with each other and they kissed nearby a crackling fire. Winnie was a little girl in the book so, of course, she
didn't kiss Jesse. Even though the two liked each other, Winnie, unfortunately, didn't want to live forever like Jesse so she chose the right way for
her. Jesse was very sad in both the movie and the book. When Winnie saw Jesse drinking the spring water (which was the key to immortality) Mae,
Miles and Jesse kidnapped her and took her away on their horse. That was in the book but in the movie; Miles took Winnie away on his horse and
left Jesse behind. That might be because the horse couldn't carry four people and run at the same time. Sometimes, because of problems like that,
some of the parts in the book are changed in the movie. Miles was very mean in the movie. He's always angry at something and he's very moody.
Miles was a very grumpy person, maybe because he is a married man, when he turned immortal. His wife sensed something fishy about the Tucks
family and moved out of their household. His wife and children died as time passed by, and he was left behind. He must feel very sad. So he took a
role of a big brother and tried to abandon Jesse from liking Winnie. He didn't want his brother to feel the way he feels if Winnie died, or maybe it was
just plain jealously because Jesse got to be in love with a girl and he did not. A man in the yellow suit was doing a little research on

Montaigne in The Return of Martin Guerra by Natalie Zemon...
In "The Return of Martin Guerre," Natalie Zemon Davis portrays Jean de Coras as a knowledgeable, impartial judge, fully capable of recognizing
female intelligence and of looking beyond the status quo in his pursuit of truth. Like any judge, Coras has the discretion to select or omit certain
pieces of evidence, the power to shape the official and accepted version of the truth; however, Michel de Montaigne would argue that Coras has a high
probability of reaching a distorted verdict. Montaigne's "Essays" claims that knowledge is acquired through the process of self–questioning, but this
self–questioning presumes that knowledge begins with ones own perspectives and not with disciplines (such as a medicine and law), which are bound to

King Pyrrhus states, "I know not...what kind of barbarians...these may be; but the disposition of this army, that I see, has nothing of barbarism in it"
(Cannibals, 1).
Thus, after witnessing the advanced military formation of the Roman Army, King Pyrrhus changed his judgment and could no longer view the Romans
as barbarians. Knowledge then, is required to make a reasonable judgment and knowledge should be acquired firsthand.
In the next paragraph, Montaigne reveals his source of information stems from his servent who witnessed it firsthand: "I long had a man in my
house that lived ten or twelve years in the New World" (Cannibals, 1). Knowledge, then, can be acquired from a reliable source. However,
Montagine purports that not all knowledge is desirable. This is illustrated when Montagine states, "I am afraid our eyes are bigger than our bellies,
and that we have more curiosity than capacity; for we grasp at all, but catch nothing but wind" (Cannibals, 1). Here, Montagine is cautious on the
discovery of the New World because the exploration of an unknown region can manifest to something more than one can grasp or it could end up being
like the wind–no great discovery at all. It is important to note that Montaigne makes reasonable judgments from the information provided by his
servant, who had lived in the New World.
Contrary from educated men, Montaigne's servant is a simple man who is not compelled to interpret on what he

Natalie Angier The Cute Factor
In "The cute factor", Natalie Angier discusses the power of cuteness and it impact in our society. Angier argues that this cuteness factor is changing
the way we perceive beauty, as we have a tendency to like things that are cute. She provides different scientific studies to demonstrate why we find
things like babies or tiny animals cute. Through such evidence, she further recognizes that we act this way because we like the vulnerability,
harmlessness, and innocence these cute things give off. And ultimately makes us feel like they need our protection and adoration. In my opinion, this
essay is interesting due to the fact it questions why we find small babies or animals cute and how it affects us. I never questioned why, in fact, I liked
cute things, instead, I always wondered why were these animals and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I do agree that the way we perceive beauty is evolving. In countries like in Japan, being cute is an important aspect of Japanese popular culture.
And this is seen not only in Japan, but in the article, when Angier describes a group of people viewing a panda at the Zoo. I don't think, however, I
am obsessed with cute things like. I'm not going to lie, I love watching videos of french bulldogs surfing, but it isn't something I want to spend most
of my spare time doing. Despite that, the article shows why I sometimes find myself looking up pictures of pugs. I find it interesting how we have a
special tenderness for cute things and how it psychological impacts us. For example, when the author states, "New studies suggest that cute images
stimulate the same pleasure centers of the brain aroused by sex, a good meal or psychoactive drugs like cocaine, which could explain why everybody
in the panda house wore a big grin." (463) This quote surprises me because I would've never imagined that looking at something cute would have the
same stimulation as cocaine. This also makes me appreciate the power of

It also allows a modern day audience a chance to examine and to compare their own identities and questions of self. What makes the story so
interesting to modern day viewers and readers is how relevant the story and the people in it are to our own times. This story is about a history of

The only thing that Arnaud and Martin really had in common was that neither was happy or had become very bored with their lives they were born
into to remain where they were. The question in hand is, how could Arnaud successfully trade his identity for the identity of Martin Guerre?
There are several reasonable explanations the first is it was harder to identify people with photos, identification, or similar means. Therefore only
flawed memory could serve the purpose of knowing what Martin looked like among peasants too poor to have considered portraiture. Second, the
Basque tradition which Martin Guerre grew up placed a powerful emphasis on the importance of family and seeing him return would have been,
even after a less than honorable exit nearly a decade before, a nearly joyous occasion. Finally, Davis points out what is the truly amazing about
Arnaud is that he had, "a memory an actor would envy (35)." Though this mechanism alone, Davis believes, Arnaud is able to tap into a myriad
number of stories which he is able to consciously able to craft into a believable mask of Martin Guerre––one that would, seemingly, fool Martin
Guerre's friends, family, and his wife for several years. Even more amazingly, when much of his family was certain that Arnaud was not actually
Martin, he would nearly deceive several magistrates.
The fraud only did not go unpunished because the real Martin Guerre reappeared on the scene in the

Analysis Of The Splendour And West Side Story
At around 12:00 PM on November 27, 1981, Miracle on 34th Street and West Side Story actress Natalie Wood boarded her yacht, called the Splendour,
along with her husband, Robert Wagner, and her Brainstorm co–star, Christopher Walken. Two days later on November 29, 1981, Wood's waterlogged
body would be discovered floating face down about two hundred yards off of Catalina Island, California. She was found not far away from a
dinghy from the Splendour, which was washed up onto rocks. Its ignition was off, the gear shift was in neutral, and the oars were locked in place,
suggesting that the vessel was not started by Wood prior to her death. The coroner reported that Wood had a blood alcohol level of .14, along with
superficial bruises on her arms and legs and a cut on her cheek.
Everyone on the Splendour, including the captain, Dennis Davern, had been drinking for the majority of the weekend, especially on the night of
Wood's disappearance. Throughout the trip, Wood was noticeably flirting with Walken, whom she was said to have become infatuated with while
filming. These circumstances mixed with countless drinks made for very heated conversations and explosive arguments. While the death of Natalie
Wood still remains a mystery, it is clear that it was not accidental; crime scene evidence and eyewitness accounts suggest that Wood was murdered by
her husband, Robert Wagner.
Wood's death was originally ruled as an accidental drowning. It was believed that Wood "fell in the water

How Does Tuck Everlasting Affect Our Life
Drinking from the Spring of Immortality in Tuck Everlasting would ruin your life forever, literally. Drinking from the spring would be a terrible
idea. You could never die. If you were to drink from the Spring of Immortality, you would never have a normal life ever again. First of all, you
wouldn't ever be able to die, even if you really wanted to eventually grow old and die. You would be on the earth until the end of time. Even if you
did something that would kill any other normal person alive, you would barely feel a thing and it wouldn't even leave a mark. In Tuck Everlasting, the
Tuck family have all had experiences that would kill a person, but were left unharmed.
If this ever happened to you, you'd constantly be worrying about making sure that nobody finds about about you immortality, and making sure that no
one else finds out about any others that are like you. An example of this, is how the Tuck family live in constant fear of somebody finding out about
them, awaiting the time when it will finally happen. Also, the Tucks rarely go into town, afraid that someone will notice how they never grow... Show

To prevent this, the Tuck family pretty much everything they could. They piled rocks over it to make it not look like a freshwater spring to thirsty

I Think Tuck Everlasting, By Natalie Babbitt
Is living forever a good thing, or a bad thing? I think Tuck Everlasting, by Natalie Babbitt, has many messages in it, and can definitely influence
people. However, could a book influence decisions in life? How about your life? This book can change the way you think about some things.
Decisions for school, life, your family, etc. Winnie was faced with a difficult decision, many, actually. The biggest one would probably be whether to
drink the springwater or not. Would you drink something like that, even if it meant that you could never die, and you had to live forever?
Winnie didn't completely believe the story about the springwater. In the end of the book, you can somewhat infer that she did, even if it was just a
little. She did believe that the springwater could really make you live forever, and yet she still didn't drink it. I believe that she made the right
decision not to drink the springwater. Before I read this book, I thought that I would want to live forever, but now I see that I wouldn't want to drink
the springwater. Seeing how Angus Tuck had felt about living forever, I realized that living forever may not be all that great after all, you wouldn't
even get to experience the rest of life, or even know what happens as you get older. I would have made this choice differently. I would have
definitely done what Winnie did, give the water up, and not drink it. If I were to compare myself to some of the characters, I might be most like
Winnie. If I

Natalie Woods Disappearance In The Film 7: 30 A. M.
On November 29, 1981 at about 7:30 A.M., Natalie Woods' body was found floating face down in the Pacific Ocean just 300 yards off of Catalina
Island wearing only a flannel nightgown, blue wool socks, and a red down jacket. It was the weekend after Thanksgiving when Woods and Robert
Wagner, another star whom she married before, divorced with a few years after their marriage, and then remarried after divorcing another man, went on
a yacht off the coast of Catalina Island's Blue Cavern. Christopher Walken, who was working on the science fiction film "Brainstorm" with Woods was
also invited to join them on the yacht. Captain Dennis Davern, a family friend of Woods, was captain of the yacht at the time. That Saturday afternoon,

On their way back to the yacht, a witness from the Harbour Patrol office said Woods scream about something, but brushed it off assuming it was

said "Natalie sat there not saying much of anything and looking bored. She left us after about a half hour, and we sat there talking for almost
another hour. Then I went to kiss her goodnight... and found her missing." At 1:30 A.M. that night, Wagner and Davern made a distress call to the
coast guard saying that Woods had disappeared from their yacht and six hours later, Natalie Woods' body was found floating about a mile away from
the yacht. The inflatable dinghy she presumably took was found washed up on the rocks just a little further south. The ignition off and the gear
shifter set to neutral gives an idea that the dinghy was never started. The body had superficial bruises on her arms and lower legs and a small cut on
her cheek which were assumed to have happened naturally when she fell into the water, and a blood–alcohol level of

Tuck Everlasting Essay
Tuck Everlasting– Compare and Contrast Essay Is living forever the greatest gift of the ultimate curse? This is the question that both the ALA
notable book, Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbitt, and the movie based on the book raise. Both explore the exciting possibility of never facing
death, the harsh reality of a never ending life and the greed that it can bring. A look at the similarities and differences will reveal that the theme, along
with the general story line, was one of the few things that remain the same in the translation from book to movie. The book and the movie are alike in
the portrayal of a young girl, Winnie Foster, on the verge of womanhood, who feels discontent with her sheltered life. She comes upon the Tuck... Show

Jesse encourages Winnie to drink the water from the spring and join them, but the end of the story reveals that she has chosen not to. One of the
biggest differences between the movie and the book was the age of Winnie. In the book she was a young girl of ten and in the movie she was
fifteen years old. This most likely was a choice of the movie makers because it decreased the age gap between Winnie and Jesse and allowed for a
romantic element, which the movie expanded into a large part of the story. The love scenes did not push the movie into an inappropriate realm, but
adults should be cautioned that kissing and cuddling all night are portrayed and possibly should be discussed when viewing with pre–teens. Babbitt
describes Winnie as, essentially, having a crush on Jesse, but it was a very innocent relationship. Jesse, too, was taken by Winnie and encouraged
her to drink the water when she was seventeen and they could spend an eternity together. The book explains that Jesse gives Winnie a bottle of the
water, giving a very physical symbol of the monumental choice that she must make. The movie, inexcusably, omits this. At the conclusion of the
book, Mae and Tuck, not Jesse as portrayed in the movie, return to Tree Gap after many years, discover the gravestone of Winnie, realize that she
never partook of the water and exclaim, "Poor Jesse". The historical time period was also changed from the book to the movie, as was the time of
summer in which the story

Natalie was invited to speak at Harvard for Annual Class Day Celebration. When counseling the graduating class, she urged them to find their

Tuck Everlasting Motifs
Tuck Everlasting The book Tuck Everlasting is a good book. Throughout the book, three continuous motifs that I found are: the wheel, fence, and
fantasy. I chose fantasy as the motif because of the several reasons that I have listed in this essay. Natalie Babbitt uses motif and analogy in the
development of theme in Tuck Everlasting by using the motif: fantasy and several different analogies. First off, the concept fantasy is the best
concept to use because of the following reasons included in Tuck Everlasting: the wood had a "pass me by" look, the road knows where to go, and the
Tucks look the same for over 87 years. These are just a few of several reasons to support that fantasy is the best motif used in the book.
Next, I think the theme in Tuck Everlasting is: time and death. I think that the theme is time and death because: the Tucks are immortal. They will live
forever. A quote that helps support the theme of time is: "'Everything's a wheel, turning and turning, never stopping. The frogs is part of it, and the
bugs, and the fish, and the wood thrush, too. And people. But never the same ones. Always coming in new, always growing and changing, and always
moving on. That's the way it's supposed to be. That's the way it is."' Angus Tuck is talking about the wheel of life. That time moves on. People are
growing and changing. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But this rowboat now, it's stuck. If we didn't move it ourself, it would stay here forever, trying to get loose, but stuck. That's what us Tucks are,
Winnie. Stuck so's we can't move on.We ain't part of the wheel no more." That's when the motif Fantasy comes in. The Tuck's are immortal now.
People can't actually be immortal. They can't be dropped off of the wheel of life. By introducing the analogies of the water cycle: "wheel of
life"::rowboat:Tucks, she makes a point of saying that the Tucks are going to stay living forever, making the motif fantasy become more of a supportive

Compare And Contrast Tuck Everlasting
"Don't be afraid of death; be afraid of an unlived life. You don't have to live forever, you just have to live." ("Tuck Everlasting Quotes by Natalie

stars two families of very different upbringings. The Tucks are a family of four. It includes Angus Tuck, the father, Mae Tuck, the mother, and two
sons Miles and Jesse. They live in a little house in the woods that is not completely clean all the time and they love it just the way it is. Once on a
journey to find a place to settle, the Tucks took a drink from a spring at the base of a tree. Time passed on and the family noticed something very

Jesse also comes to Winnie's window of her bedroom to discuss a plan to get them out of jail. Once they get to the jailhouse in the book, Angus,

Whereas in the movie, Miles and Jesse pretend to be kidnappers. Winnie runs to the jailhouse and yells as if she is being kidnapped again. Once the

Natalie Watkins Analysis
Natalie Watkins is a promising young artist born in Stockton, Ca. She began to study art at an early age, and over the years has established herself
as profound human being. She considers her style of painting as a contemporary, and her works range from gender and sexuality to social and
political issues. Her art is showcased in cafes and small venues throughout Stockton, Ca. The untitled painting, which is one of her early works, is
painted in dark colors of grey and black portraying a figure sitting alone on a dark and stormy night. The figure sits in the pouring rain in the middle
of a street watching a small sailboat, something similar to an old fashion pirate boat, float away down the gutter. The artist hides most of the person
including their face from the view with a large umbrella. Most of the colors are in black and grey with the exception of the figures sweater, which is
in a bright yellow and the water which is painted in blue and white.
What do I notice from the paintings is a figure sitting all alone amidst a rainy storm as if he or she awaits change at a turning point in their life. The
starkness of the painting shows the figures emotions and feelings are strong and yet there is always sunshine after the rain. ... Show more content on

Making The Right Choice In Tuck Everlasting By Natalie...
Throughout Tuck Everlasting, by Natalie Babbitt, there were many examples of how making the right choice isn't always easy. One example is
when Winnie told Jesse that she wants to help the Tucks with the escape plan of Mae from the gallows. Even though Winnie knew that she'll get in
trouble for going out in the middle of the night, she still took the risk. Another example is when Miles knew about the spring water, but didn't bring
his family to the spring. He made a sacrifice for the Tucks, keeping the secret safe from anyone else. The last example is when Mae killed the man in
the yellow suit when he was trying to take away Winnie. Even though Mae knew about the consequences, she still did it in order to protect Winnie.

Natalie Hampton, who is now a teen activist, was always told the famous quote from movies, "You can't sit with us!" She never understood why she

Who is Natalie Hampton? Natalie Hampton was in 7th and 8th grade when the bullying started. She would never have thought that the bullying would

Natalie Zmuda
The author, Natalie Zmuda, oversees the Chief Marketing Officer Strategy section (COM.com) and is responsible for identifying and analyzing the
latest trends impacting chief marketers. Zmuda also covers the retail and non–alcoholic beverage categories. She joined Advertising Age in 2008,
following five years covering the retail and fashion industries for Conde Nast Publications. The article examines multiculturalism in advertising in the
U.S. 2014 television commercials for Chevrolet and Cheerios featuring a gay couple and interracial family, respectively; which are cited as examples
of a trend in which major advertisers of brand name products with mass markets are more willing to portray social diversity in their advertising. The

She realizes this by analyzing Chevrolet's Facebook page, for example. She recognizes that because the company decided to use interracial couples in
their advertising, purchase consideration and the perception of the company itself has escalated with the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender
(LGBT) community. This then leads into her realization of the "overriding takeaway" from such campaigns. It's not about why these brands are worth
investing money; it's about the companies being diverse and accepting. This analysis concludes her article by emotionally capturing her readers.
Television has an extraordinary amount of power and because these ads caused such a stir, Zmuda used that to appeal to the emotion of readers who
either relate to the issues discussed or feel for those who

Natalie Portman Research Paper

  • 1. Natalie Portman Research Paper "I don't love studying. I hate studying. I like learning. Learning is beautiful." – Natalie Portman. Natalie Portman's quote is one to live by. She is an amazing actress, and a very interesting woman. I chose to wright my paper on her because she is smart, and everything I have learned about her is attention grabbing. She shares a birthday day with my daughter! Which I think is cool. I love her movies. My favorite is: Where the Heart is. Within this paper I'm going to be addressing her obstacles to becoming a successful actress. Also the importance of her education, and tips and inspirations that Natalie can inspire that I can apply to my education and professional success. When I first started reading about Natalie Portman, I had kind of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She went to public school from 8th– 12th grade, she graduated in 1999. She had a very strict schedule when she was preforming. She would go to school for her first three classes, go to her rehearsal, would be tutored during her hour lunch, after rehearsal, and before and after rehearsals on Saturdays and Sundays. She had two of her high school papers published in many scientific journals. For the first time Natalie Portman found herself bored over the summer between high school and college, so she did the movie Where the Heart is. When she stated this just after moving out of her family home and into her dorm room: "I'm going from living dependent on other people to making my own movement to take care of myself and in turn take care of others. You discover that not everyone's good and people will disappoint you. It's disillusioning. But rather than think everyone evil, you say, 'I've got to be more careful,' and there are people I can find who will be true friends." (Boston Herald 4/2000). She went to Harvard University class of 2003, and graduated with a degree in psychology. At the age of 30 she had a family started, just won her first Oscar, which makes her the first Harvard alum to win an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Compare And Contrast Tuck Everlasting Flynn Kelleher1/22/2016 Ms. Molly Tuck Everlasting Essay Have you ever wondered why books seem to always be better than movies based on that book? Well I am here to tell you why. The example I will focus on is Natalie Babbitt's Tuck Everlasting vs Disney's interpretation of Tuck Everlasting. I prefer Natalie Babbitt's Tuck Everlasting over Disney's Tuck Everlasting because of the imagery, the suspense, and the characterization. One example of the imagery being better in the book is the forest. In the book the forest sounds big and beautiful. But, in the movie the forest is quite overgrown and there was not as much wildlife as I expected. Even though the forest wasn't as beautiful as the book portrayed it, it is still quite an amazing sight. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the book Winnie's parents were less interested in finding their daughter than in the movie. I liked this because it made Winnie have another reason to run away. Also, in the book the parents were quicker to give up the spring to the man in the yellow suit. Another example of why the book has better characterization than the movie is Winnie. Winnie was five years younger in the book which gave her time to mature and grow throughout the book. As opposed to in the movie where Winnie was 15 and she did not have as much room to mature and grow. Another aspect of Winnie that was better in the book was her relationship with Jesse. In the book there wasn't as much romance between Winnie and Jesse which I liked because honestly, in the movie, I thought their relationship was an unnecessary side note. The final reason that the characterization was better in the book was the Tucks. In the movie, all the Tuck's opinions were generalized and we didn't get to hear each Tuck's opinion as much as in the book. An example of this is Miles's and Jesse's views on immortality, in the movie we didn't get to hear their differing opinions on immortality as opposed to the book where we herd both their opinions. As you can see Natalie Babbitt's book Tuck Everlasting is much better than Disney's rendition of Tuck Everlasting for three key points. These points were the imagery, the suspense and the characterization. You might ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He was going to surprise Natalie. Take her out to an early dinner; Champagne and candlelight, back to their place for a night of love making, slip the ring into her breakfast and ask her to be his forever. It was going to be the perfect surprise. He would make sure of it. But first, he needed to take a shower and change out of his traveling clothes. He was surprised to see her car parked in the driveway to their home, since she was normally out at this time of day. There was another car there too. He said coolly as he glared at this intruder. He says coolly, again how is he so composed? I 'm not saying he shouldn 't be, but why is he? Past actions on Nat 's part? Him being hurt before? • 6. Be Specific Natalie Goldberg Analysis In her work Be Specific, Natalie Goldberg discusses the importance of specification in writing. By taking the time to put more thought into word choice and details in a person's writing, they are more likely to create a more vivid and realistic image in his/her reader's mind. Although this may be beneficial to some readers, others may argue that the mystery allows the reader to apply the story to his/her own life, allowing each reader to have a unique experience. Goldberg's ideas on being specific can help writers who struggle with gaining connection to their audiences. Unsupportive of generic descriptions, Goldberg encourages writers to draw from the world around them to make their stories more animated and lively. Goldberg's audience is everyone: both reader and writer. Most people can think about a time an author described something in such superb detail that the reader could picture themselves in the scene. Moreover, there have been literary moments when the reader must fill in the details him/herself and make up what the scene looks like. A great example of this is when thinking about... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This can help the reader know exactly what type of tree the writer is intending for the reader to envision. This style of writing can be important when writing factual and direct information However, this could in turn shut out the chance of the reader to use his/her imagination and think of a tree on their own in creative and fictional writing. Although a silly example, it makes more sense put in context. If the author is describing a beauty oak tree that the main character played in, a reader may think back to his/her childhood and building a tree house with their grandfather in the large oak in the backyard. This is an extremely specific example and automatically narrows down the number of people the message resonates ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Everything is going perfectly swell until suddenly you're swallowed by an unexpected wave of blistering hot air. You black out and moments, maybe hours later, you regain your conscience and find yourself stranded somewhere in an unnaturally gorgeous island. That's practically the story of everyone who finds themselves on an island called Nil, and everyone who finds themselves on the mysterious island has exactly a year to leave before they die. And Natalie brings up Ramia again when the same girl who tried to steal her gate dies on her bed. "I let you put her in my bed! I didn't stay with you, and when I went inside the hut to check on her, she was dead." She then blames herself for someone else's death. "Ramia warned me, Thad. And I blew it." Natalie also becomes certain that Charlie's theory about gate appearances is true, giving her hope for something that could be entirely incorrect. Charlie mentions this in chapter thirty–five, "I only brought up my idea of how the gates might roll in sequence because Jason looked so darn upset when a gate didn't flash, and I wanted Natalie to have a ray of hope. • 9. Tuck Everlasting Point Of View Time moves forward, and only forward. It's a circle – we are born, raised, we live, then we die. But have you ever imagined what would happen if you were endowed with immortality? What if you could not die no matter how many decades had passed, while the world around you keeps changing and everyone else keeps aging? Would it be wonderful to live forever like that? Then you should take a look atTuck Everlasting, a novel written by Natalie Babbitt in 1975 which focuses on the negative side of immortality. The narrative point of view used in the novel is the third person omniscient, like most of the stories we were told as children. Our narrator, the author, knows everything. She can zoom in and out on all the characters, jump from place to place, and even read the thoughts of the main characters. The Prologue tells us all: "At dawn, Mae Tuck set out on her horse..." "At noontime, Winnie Foster, whose family owned the Treegap wood,..." "And at sunset a stranger appeared at the Fosters' gate." There is no connection among them. But these are the three main storylines, and the narrator knows them all. When Winnie saw Jesse drinking the spring water (which was the key to immortality) Mae, Miles and Jesse kidnapped her and took her away on their horse. That was in the book but in the movie; Miles took Winnie away on his horse and left Jesse behind. That might be because the horse couldn't carry four people and run at the same time. In "The Return of Martin Guerre," Natalie Zemon Davis portrays Jean de Coras as a knowledgeable, impartial judge, fully capable of recognizing female intelligence and of looking beyond the status quo in his pursuit of truth. Like any judge, Coras has the discretion to select or omit certain pieces of evidence, the power to shape the official and accepted version of the truth; however, Michel de Montaigne would argue that Coras has a high probability of reaching a distorted verdict. Montaigne's "Essays" claims that knowledge is acquired through the process of self–questioning, but this self–questioning presumes that knowledge begins with ones own perspectives and not with disciplines (such as a medicine and law), which are bound to ... Thus, after witnessing the advanced military formation of the Roman Army, King Pyrrhus changed his judgment and could no longer view the Romans as barbarians. Knowledge then, is required to make a reasonable judgment and knowledge should be acquired firsthand. In the next paragraph, Montaigne reveals his source of information stems from his servent who witnessed it firsthand: "I long had a man in my house that lived ten or twelve years in the New World" (Cannibals, 1). Knowledge, then, can be acquired from a reliable source. However, Montagine purports that not all knowledge is desirable. This is illustrated when Montagine states, "I am afraid our eyes are bigger than our bellies, and that we have more curiosity than capacity; for we grasp at all, but catch nothing but wind" (Cannibals, 1). Here, Montagine is cautious on the discovery of the New World because the exploration of an unknown region can manifest to something more than one can grasp or it could end up being like the wind–no great discovery at all. It is important to note that Montaigne makes reasonable judgments from the information provided by his servant, who had lived in the New World. Angier argues that this cuteness factor is changing the way we perceive beauty, as we have a tendency to like things that are cute. Through such evidence, she further recognizes that we act this way because we like the vulnerability, harmlessness, and innocence these cute things give off. And ultimately makes us feel like they need our protection and adoration. The only thing that Arnaud and Martin really had in common was that neither was happy or had become very bored with their lives they were born into to remain where they were. The question in hand is, how could Arnaud successfully trade his identity for the identity of Martin Guerre? There are several reasonable explanations the first is it was harder to identify people with photos, identification, or similar means. Therefore only flawed memory could serve the purpose of knowing what Martin looked like among peasants too poor to have considered portraiture. Second, the Basque tradition which Martin Guerre grew up placed a powerful emphasis on the importance of family and seeing him return would have been, even after a less than honorable exit nearly a decade before, a nearly joyous occasion. Finally, Davis points out what is the truly amazing about Arnaud is that he had, "a memory an actor would envy (35)." Though this mechanism alone, Davis believes, Arnaud is able to tap into a myriad number of stories which he is able to consciously able to craft into a believable mask of Martin Guerre––one that would, seemingly, fool Martin Guerre's friends, family, and his wife for several years. Analysis Of The Splendour And West Side Story At around 12:00 PM on November 27, 1981, Miracle on 34th Street and West Side Story actress Natalie Wood boarded her yacht, called the Splendour, along with her husband, Robert Wagner, and her Brainstorm co–star, Christopher Walken. Two days later on November 29, 1981, Wood's waterlogged body would be discovered floating face down about two hundred yards off of Catalina Island, California. She was found not far away from a dinghy from the Splendour, which was washed up onto rocks. Its ignition was off, the gear shift was in neutral, and the oars were locked in place, suggesting that the vessel was not started by Wood prior to her death. The coroner reported that Wood had a blood alcohol level of .14, along with superficial bruises on her arms and legs and a cut on her cheek. Everyone on the Splendour, including the captain, Dennis Davern, had been drinking for the majority of the weekend, especially on the night of Wood's disappearance. Throughout the trip, Wood was noticeably flirting with Walken, whom she was said to have become infatuated with while filming. These circumstances mixed with countless drinks made for very heated conversations and explosive arguments. While the death of Natalie Wood still remains a mystery, it is clear that it was not accidental; crime scene evidence and eyewitness accounts suggest that Wood was murdered by her husband, Robert Wagner. I think Tuck Everlasting, by Natalie Babbitt, has many messages in it, and can definitely influence people. However, could a book influence decisions in life? How about your life? This book can change the way you think about some things. Decisions for school, life, your family, etc. Winnie was faced with a difficult decision, many, actually. The biggest one would probably be whether to drink the springwater or not. Would you drink something like that, even if it meant that you could never die, and you had to live forever? Winnie didn't completely believe the story about the springwater. In the end of the book, you can somewhat infer that she did, even if it was just a little. She did believe that the springwater could really make you live forever, and yet she still didn't drink it. I believe that she made the right decision not to drink the springwater. Before I read this book, I thought that I would want to live forever, but now I see that I wouldn't want to drink the springwater. Seeing how Angus Tuck had felt about living forever, I realized that living forever may not be all that great after all, you wouldn't even get to experience the rest of life, or even know what happens as you get older. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Jesse encourages Winnie to drink the water from the spring and join them, but the end of the story reveals that she has chosen not to. One of the biggest differences between the movie and the book was the age of Winnie. In the book she was a young girl of ten and in the movie she was fifteen years old. This most likely was a choice of the movie makers because it decreased the age gap between Winnie and Jesse and allowed for a romantic element, which the movie expanded into a large part of the story. The love scenes did not push the movie into an inappropriate realm, but adults should be cautioned that kissing and cuddling all night are portrayed and possibly should be discussed when viewing with pre–teens. Babbitt describes Winnie as, essentially, having a crush on Jesse, but it was a very innocent relationship. Jesse, too, was taken by Winnie and encouraged her to drink the water when she was seventeen and they could spend an eternity together. The book explains that Jesse gives Winnie a bottle of the water, giving a very physical symbol of the monumental choice that she must make. The movie, inexcusably, omits this. At the conclusion of the book, Mae and Tuck, not Jesse as portrayed in the movie, return to Tree Gap after many years, discover the gravestone of Winnie, realize that she never partook of the water and exclaim, "Poor Jesse". • 24. Tuck Everlasting Motifs Tuck Everlasting The book Tuck Everlasting is a good book. Throughout the book, three continuous motifs that I found are: the wheel, fence, and fantasy. I chose fantasy as the motif because of the several reasons that I have listed in this essay. Natalie Babbitt uses motif and analogy in the development of theme in Tuck Everlasting by using the motif: fantasy and several different analogies. First off, the concept fantasy is the best concept to use because of the following reasons included in Tuck Everlasting: the wood had a "pass me by" look, the road knows where to go, and the Tucks look the same for over 87 years. These are just a few of several reasons to support that fantasy is the best motif used in the book. Next, I think the theme in Tuck Everlasting is: time and death. I think that the theme is time and death because: the Tucks are immortal. They will live forever. A quote that helps support the theme of time is: "'Everything's a wheel, turning and turning, never stopping. The frogs is part of it, and the bugs, and the fish, and the wood thrush, too. And people. But never the same ones. Always coming in new, always growing and changing, and always moving on. That's the way it's supposed to be. That's the way it is."' Finishing up the letter, Wilson directly talks to the pastor stating that they should meet on common ground so that they could focus on humanity and the environment. She began to study art at an early age, and over the years has established herself as profound human being. She considers her style of painting as a contemporary, and her works range from gender and sexuality to social and political issues. Her art is showcased in cafes and small venues throughout Stockton, Ca. The untitled painting, which is one of her early works, is painted in dark colors of grey and black portraying a figure sitting alone on a dark and stormy night. The figure sits in the pouring rain in the middle of a street watching a small sailboat, something similar to an old fashion pirate boat, float away down the gutter. The artist hides most of the person including their face from the view with a large umbrella. Most of the colors are in black and grey with the exception of the figures sweater, which is in a bright yellow and the water which is painted in blue and white. What do I notice from the paintings is a figure sitting all alone amidst a rainy storm as if he or she awaits change at a turning point in their life. One example is when Winnie told Jesse that she wants to help the Tucks with the escape plan of Mae from the gallows. Even though Winnie knew that she'll get in trouble for going out in the middle of the night, she still took the risk. Another example is when Miles knew about the spring water, but didn't bring his family to the spring. He made a sacrifice for the Tucks, keeping the secret safe from anyone else. 'V for Vendetta' is a type of film where in a future, where there was a British tyranny or corruption in the government, a shadowy freedom fighter plots to overthrow it with the help of a young woman.
