When he was 11, Piaget wrote a short scientific
paper on the Albino Sparrow.
He studied biology and psychology.
He identified four stages of children
mental development, called “schema”.
4. Sensorimotor Stage
That is the first child stage and it goes from
birth to 2 years old.
• During that years
children develop their
first schemas.
• They get to understand
themselves thanks to
their sensation and
movement.
5. Sensorimotor Stage
Stage of reflex activity.
Stage of primary circular reactions.
Stage of secondary circular reactions.
Co-ordination of secondary circular reactions.
Stage of tertiary circular reactions.
Beginnings of symbolic representation.
6. Preoperational Stage
This stage goes from 2 to 7 years old.
•Children start to learn
through their experiences
and real objects around their
close environment.
•Children also think that all
inert objects have some kind
of consciousness
7. Preoperational Stage
Preconceptual substage (from 2 to 4).
Intuitive substage (from 4 to 7).
8. Concrete operational
stage
This stage goes from 7 to 11 years old.
•Children are still learning thought experiences
with real objects.
•They are no longer subject illogical limitations.
10. Formal Operation stage
This stage begins at age 12 to and last into
adulthood.
•During this time people
develop the hability to think
about abstact concepts.
•People develop skills such
as logical thought, deductive
reasoning and systematic
planning.
11. Formal Operation Stage
This stage has main features:
•Abstract concepts
