A. Check the table which data are being sent to the computer system by
the following input devices. Number 1 is done for you.
B. Complete the table below with words of the correct answer.
Lesson Title INPUT DEVICES
Learning Competency : Identify Input devices of a computer system
Reference:https://link.quipper.com/en/organizations/5468b2732294ee07bc0000d4/curriculum#curriculum LAS No.: 2.1
An input device is a piece of hardware that sends data to a computer. Most input devices
either interact with or control the computer in some way. The most common input devices are
the mouse and the keyboard, but there are many others. Keyboard inputs data like text to the
computer. Card reader inputs graphics or image file. The key distinction between an input
device and an output device is that the former sends data to the computer, whereas the
latter receives data from the computer. Input and output devices that provide computers with
additional functionality are also called peripheral or auxiliary devices.

Learning Competency : Differentiate primary and Secondary storage in a computer systems.
Reference:https://link.quipper.com/en/organizations/5468b2732294ee07bc0000d4/curriculum#curriculum LAS No. 2.3
LEARNING CONCEPT:
Primary memory usually refers to Random Access Memory (RAM), while secondary
storage refers to devices such as hard disk drives, solid state drives, removable "USB" drives,
CDs, and DVDs. Primary storage is the component of the computer that
holds data, programs and instructions that are currently in use. It is located on
the motherboard.. The two main types of primary storage are ROM( Read Only Memory),
which is non-volatile that keeps its contents even when the computer is switched off., and
RAM ( Random Access Memory) , which is volatile which loses its contents when power is
lost.

EXERCISE: Select the correct items below that describes the basic features of system
and application software and write it on the correct column on the table.
Lesson Title : TYPES OF SOFTWARE
Learning Competency : Describe the function of system software and Application Software
Reference: https://www.businessinsider.in/difference-between-application-software-and-system-
software/articleshow
LAS No. 2.4
LEARNING CONCEPT:
System software is meant to administer the system resources. It enables the computer to
function properly. Systemsoftwareprovidesan interface betweenthe systemhardwareand theuser.
It lets the system understand the command that the user inputs.
Application software is meant to enable the user to carry out some specific set of tasks or
functions. This software is meant to meet some specific needs for the user to accomplish a specific
task. It cannot be used without the system software and it enables user to work efficiently with
documentation.
 Enables the computer to function properly.
 Provides the environment to enable users to accomplish specific tasks.
 Compulsory – Each computer must have a System Software to function.
 Dependent – Application software cannot work without system software.
 Each computer only needs one System Software.
 Each computer can have more than one application software.
 Independent – System software can function without an Application Software.
 Optional – Depends on usage and needs. Without an Application Software, the
computer
is still able to function.
 Provides the environment in which the applications run.
 Enables users to work efficiently with documentation such as letters, accounting reports
and presentations.

A computer interface is any program or device that allows users to communicate with
the computer. When we boot or start a computer, it loads the operating system into its hard
drive. The table below summarizes the 3 types of interface in an operating system (
command line, menu driven & Graphical) responsible for the different task cited below. Today,
multitasking operating systems enable users to work with two or more application programs at the
same time. A device driver is a small program that tells the operating system how to communicate
with a specific device.
