Science Skills The Scientific Method
The scientific method Scientist use process skills when they investigate places or events. You will use this skills when you do the activities or experiments in the science class.
SkillsObserve - use your senses to find out about objects, events, or living things.Classify – arrange or sort objects, events or living things. Estimate and measureInfer - make a hypothesis of what is happening based on what they already know.
Skills Predict- your opinion on what you think will happen.Make and use models – using models to help develop the best design. Make Operational Definitions- describe objects or events based on their experiences. Forming hypothesis- a statement you can test to solve a problem or a question.
Skills Collect data- organizing data into charts or tables.Interpret data- use the information collected to solve problems and questions.Investigate or experiment - texting a hypothesis.Identify and control variables- testing only one thing at a time.
The Scientific Method
ExampleQuestion- What material is best for keeping heat in water?Hypothesis- A glass jar will keep it warmer.Control variables- do the test in different types of jar.Test your hypothesis- measure the temperature on the different jars. Collect data- write down the measurements.Interpret- ask your self if temperatures really differ. State your conclusion- tell whether or not you data supported your hypothesis.
