Alex underwood media as frankenstein
1. Low level lighting. Light
directed at one side of the face
to create dark shadows around
the eyes. Soundtrack of them
crying. Mid – close up shot.
Very dark, dark sky, dark
clothes, dark background.
Again, low level lighting, swing the
bell in front of his face so his
features are hard to distinguish.
Dark background again. The
soundtrack is simply the bell tolling
and people crying.
As the camera pans round this
ghostly skeleton figure comes
into the shot. The dark eyes
resemble the people’s eyes as
a result of the lighting. The
camera is just below head
height which makes it seem
like they are looking up from
the grave slightly.
Once again a very dark
background, you can barely see
the men in the shadows.
They’re hiding from the people
at the funeral behind a fence
and they’re acting suspiciously.
The first real bit of dialogue
here.
.
Adds dimensions to the scene,
walking away from coffin.
Heads hanging low, more light
shining from one side to
produce shadows around the
eyes. Crying on the
soundtrack dies out and then
the sound of the shovel can
only be heard.
2. First time you see the facial
features of any character, only
a tolling bell can be heard and
the noise of him lighting his
pipe. Dark on the left hand side
of the picture and brighter on
the right, showing you which
way the light is shining from.
We have a hunch back here.
Alongside the doctor. Looking
at the body on the cross. Once
again a very dark scene. The
light from the lantern seems to
be the only source of light. The
dark skies and cloud are
particularly noticeable in this
scene making it obvious that it
is late at night.
v
You hear a barking dog for a
short moment on the
soundtrack. Also the
hunchback is breathing heavily,
panting after the effort he used
to get up. A very dark picture,
his face is illuminated and a
small area around him but
fades into black around the
edges of the picture.
Complete darkness in the
background apart from the
light coming from the lantern
which is illuminating his face
slightly, but, still creating
shadows across his face. The
only other source of light
seems to be coming from the
moonlight which I reflecting off
his hair.
