Philadelphia 76er Essay
This season, all eyes will be on the Philadelphia 76ers to see if they can take that next step towards a
potential playoff berth. In offseason, the team signed both sharpshooter J.J. Redick and big man
Amir Johnson to one–year deals in free agency to pair with the youth movement led by center Joel
Embiid.
However, while all the attention is on the guys apart of the 15–man roster, the Sixers and the rest of
the NBA have an additional two roster spots, which is for two–way contracts. This should help a lot
of teams this season as they can develop players through their system while getting valuable playing
time in the G League.
Earlier this summer, the Sixers used one of their two–way slots on forward James Michael McAdoo.

If that wasn't amazing enough, Pullen upped the ante in his senior year, averaging 20.2 points, 3.7
assists, 2.9 rebounds, and 1.6 steals in 32.6 minutes per game.
Just like he did as a junior, Pullen continued to show off his hot shooting stroke, knocking down
42.6 percent from the field and 38.1 percent from three–point range.
Despite ending his four–year career at Kansas State on a high note, Pullen would go undrafted in
2011 and began his world tour playing basketball. He started off playing hoops with Pallacanestro
Bella in Italian Lega Basket Seria A and continued to do what he does best, scoring points.
With Pallacanestro Bella, Pullen averaged 16.0 points, shot 42.1 percent from the field and 34.1
percent from three–point range in 34.3 minutes per game.
Three–point shooting would become Pullen's best friend overseas as he would have a ridiculous
game a few seasons later with FC Barcelona Lassa. Against C.B. Valladolid, Pullen went off for 42
points on 12–of–15 shooting from distance, leading his team to victory.
The former Kansas State Wildcat put on the clinic, showing he could knock down the three–ball off
screens and off the dribble.
However, do not let the three–point shot fool you. Pullen can get to the basket at will and has a nice
hang dribble, which throws his defenders off.
Last season, he played with Khimki in the VTB United league and even though his

Compare And Contrast Durry Vs Dell Curry
Curry v.s Curry Some people that pay attention and are interested in the game of basketball, there
are arguments between the two about who is better. Some people that like basketball think that Dell

I Like This Sport
People always say "I like this sport", or "this sport is better." Today we are going to classify the
three wonders of the world. Which one will excel better or be a fan favorite upon the people and
their opinions? Basketball is one of the most popular sports in the world. It was so popular that it
became an Olympic sport in 1936. It was invented in 1891 by James Naismith at the YMCA. They
played with peach baskets and a soccer ball, spherical ball. The court is 31 yards and there are 2
baskets to score on. On March 2,1962, Wilt "the stilt" scored 100 points in a game. The most ever
scored by a single player in a game. It is widely considered by some the best sport. Soccer is the

Analytics In Basketball
There is a field in the sport of basketball that is growing at a rapid pace. That field is called
analytics. Nearly every team in the NBA now has an analytics department. However, it is important
to fully understand analytics before applying that knowledge to the sport of basketball. "Analytics is
the discovery and communication of meaningful patterns in data" (Stolbunov 1). Analytics being
used in sports is simply called sports analytics. Even though analytics has its flaws, it has had a
major impact on team building in basketball using statistics like player efficiency rating and
effective field goal percentage. There are many important statistics used in analytics, but a couple
are used to very great effect. One of the most important statistics ... Show more content on

In baseball, the book "Moneyball" revolutionized the way that the whole sport looked at analytics.
Basketball has a comparable situation. The book "Basketball on Paper" dives into the numbers
behind the sport (Haefner 10). In this book, author Dean Oliver states there are four main statistics
to tell which team will win, and also states of how much importance these statistics are. He says that
a team's shooting is forty percent of winning, turnovers are twenty five percent, rebounding is
twenty percent, and and free throws are fifteen percent (Haefner 11). One of the fathers of analytics
in basketball claims that shooting is far and away the most important statistic in the game. However,
in order to know how a team is performing in this category, the team must be compared against
other teams. Doing this is extremely easy. If comparing two teams playing each other, the opposing
team's effective field goal percentage is simply subtracted from the team being observed (Haefner
15). A golden example of the utility of effective field goal percentage is the Golden State Warriors.
This team has broken records for three pointers made, and recently won seventy three games in a
single season. The Warriors have an advantage on almost every other team in the NBA because of
the vast amount of three pointers that they take (Dizikes 2). The ease with which effective field goal
percentage can be used and its direct correlation to which team wins the game makes it possibly the
most useful statistic in the game of basketball. However, while shooting does have a direct
correlation for team performance, it does not always have a major impact on how a single player

The Rugby League
Rugby is a team sport played on a field. There are three main forms of rugby rugby league, rugby
union and sevens. This paper will focus primarily on elements that they have in common. For the
first two forms, there are thirteen players on the field for each team. A game is eighty minutes long
and is divided into two halves of continuous action.
The objective of rugby is to carry an oblong ball down the field and across the opponent's goal line.
This is the main scoring play, known as a try. A try is worth five points. In order to count for a try,
the player must take the ball across the goal line and set it down on the ground. The point at which
the ball is set down is used as the basis for the try at goal. This is a kicking play, and it follows a try.
The team that scored the try attempts to kick the ball through the upright goal in the middle of the
field. If successful, the try at goal is worth two points. The other way that rugby teams can earn
points is through field goals. This is earned any time a player kicks the ball through the uprights of
the opponent. This can happen from open play or on a penalty, and is worth one point.
Rugby is played on a large field and the players wear little equipment. There is no mandatory
protective equipment, despite the high level of contact in the game. Some players do opt to wear
head gear or mouthguards, and also shin guards to protect against cleats.
There are a number of positions on the field, generally divided

The rules of football have changed alot since 1869 because now the touchdowns are now worth six
points but in 1898 it was every touchdown was worth four points.
But it changed to five points in 1898 and then it changed back to four in 1904 field goal points
changed from four to three but now it is 1 point for a field goal. Forward pass was legalized.
The NFL, which long had followed the rules of college football, made a number of significant
changes from the college game for the first time and began to develop rules serving its needs and the
style of play it preferred. The innovations from the 1932 championship game–inbounds line or

Performance Analysis : The International Basketball...
CHAPTER 2
LITERATURE REVIEW 2.0 Previous research
The majority of previous research pertaining to performance analysis in basketball has been focused
on the quantitative analysis of game–related statistics, commonly found in a basketball box–score
(Sampaio et al., 2006). These game–related statistics include: field goal attempts, field goals made,
field goal percentage, 3–point field goal attempts, 3–point field goals made, 3–point field goal
percentage, free throws attempted, free throws made, free throw percentage, defensive rebounds,
offensive rebounds, assists, steals, blocks, turnovers and personal fouls.
The practical value of performance analysis is that well–chosen performance indicators allow good
and bad techniques or team performances to be highlighted (Hughes & Franks, 2008). Trinic et al.
(2002) analysed the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) official performance indicators with
the goal of identifying parameters that differentiated between winning and losing teams which
played in the final tournaments of the European club championships from 1992 to 2000.
Discriminant function structure coefficients (SC) from discriminant analysis exposed that defensive
rebounds (SC = 0.42), field goal percentage (3–point field goals made SC = 0.24, 3–point field goals
missed SC = –0.30, 2–point field goals made SC = 0.14 and 2–point field goals missed SC = –0.26),
and free throw percentage (SC = 0.26) had the highest discriminative power respectively.

Football Vs. American Football
Football and American football are two very popular sports. Football being the most popular sport
and played all over the world while American football being America's favorite sport it is almost
solely played in the United States. American football evolved in the United States, originating from
Rugby football.Today Professional and Collegiate American football are the most popular forms of
the game. Football dates back more than 2000 years in ancient China, but it was England that
developed football into the sport we know today. Football at the professional level is the most
popular form of the game. Football and American football are somewhat alike, sharing some
similarities. However, you can easily find differences between which is what makes them distinctive
and enjoyable for their fans.
American football requires more players than Football. It is played with fifteen players on each
team, eight forwards, who mainly get possession of the ball, and Seven backs, who mostly carry and
move the ball. The six basic skills in American football are catching, running, blocking, tackling, and
kicking. American football players require tremendous strength and muscle, skills with hands, be
able to memorize the playbook during the game, be able to go extremely hard for minutes at a time.
American football is a brutal sport, they act as if they are crazy animals attacking their prey with no
mercy. Football is not ignorant like American football. Football requires

The Hot Hand Theory Of Basketball Is A Fallacy Essay
Evidence presented throughout the last forty years has suggested that the Hot Hand theory in
basketball is a "fallacy." Evidence suggested that there is no scientific reasoning for being able to
improve one's odds of making a jump shot, if the previous three shots were made. New evidence
presented by, Andrew Bocskocsky, John Ezekowitz, and Carolyn Stein, suggested that there is a
better chance of making a shot if the previous three shots have been made. The authors have used
equations that take into account different aspects of the game, which could influence "hotness."
Previously, these variables have not been taken into account, which could have possibly skewed the
data. The evidence in the peer–reviewed journal article, has taken into account all aspects of the
game that could influence the probability that a shot will, or will not go in. In the article
Bocskocsky, Ezekowitz, and Stein, used a data set from 83,000 shot attempts throughout the 2012–
2013 NBA season. From each shot taken, stats were recorded regarding the different aspects of the
shot. First off, shot difficulty needs to be taken into account. Who is taking the shot will influence
the probability of the shot going in, depending if it is a high percentage three–point shooter taking
the shot, or a center taking the three point shot. Another factor that has been taken into account is the
amount of time left, and score differential. These two factors will heavily influence the mindset of

They both have 11 players in each team, which is one of the main similarities. Other than that, most
of the objects are different. Football is played mostly by hands, only in certain parts of the game
players use feet as well, but in soccer players are only allowed to use their feet, except goalkeeper.
Football has two sections of players in their team, offense, and defense, and they take turns on the
field. If one team is on the attacking position, the other team defense, and vice versa. On the
contrary, soccer has four sections of players in their squad: offense, midfield, defense, and
goalkeeper. The goalkeeper is a player in soccer who stands in front of the goal bar and prevents the
opposition from scoring, and unlike other players, goalkeepers can use their hands. The different
sections of players don't take turns on the field like football, they all play at the same time. In

Assessing The Performance Of A Team
For many years decisions by coaches and managers had been decided by what they would call their
"gut" feeling. Coaches would make draft picks based on how they felt and would change their game
plans based on what they thought was best. Nowadays front offices and coaches like to use
analytics. Analytics takes a teams and individual players stats, and analyzes them to evaluate the
performance of a team or individual. Doing this can better your chance of success in todays
sports(Porreca). The use of analyzing statistics in sports is a fairly new concept, however statistics in
sports have been kept for a little over 50 years. The idea to use analytics is so new that in 2005, only
a couple of NBA teams had used high levels of statistical analysis to track players and tactics
(Porreca). The first use of analyzing statistics to make decisions for a team was done by Billy Beane
the Oakland Athletics' General Manager in baseball during the year 2001. Beane developed a theory
now known as the "Moneyball Theory" which uses "the analysis of statistics to evaluate the
performance of a team and its individual players." (Porreca) Beane's theory was that a team that had
a higher on base percentage was more likely to score and win more games. He thought that the more
you get on base the more likely you are to score runs, thus winning more often(Steinberg 1). Beane
also looked at additional statistics that showed college baseball players were better prepared for the
professionals, so Beane

Touch Down In Football Essay
The aim of this game is to move the oval ball towards the opposition's end zone and finally into their
end zone (called Touchdown). This can be achieved by either running with the ball until you arrive
at the end zone, or throwing the ball down field to a team mate, who catches the ball in this zone.
You are also able to get extra points by a field goal. Of course, the opposing team tries to prevent
these cases. After one team finished the attack, the other gets the ball and is able to do the same. The
team with the most points at the end of a game wins. The match takes place on a rectangular field
that is 120 yards (110 m) long and 53.33 yards (48.76 m) wide. On the whole field are yard– lines
and at both ends is an end zone and the goal posts.
1.2 Downs:
Downs are a really important part of NFL play. The offensive team moves the ball forward in
sections of at least 10 yards. They have four chances (or downs) to gain those 10 yards. Each time
the ball is advanced at least 10 yards within their four chances, another first down is earned, with ...

addition to that, every Individual player must be designated with a number between 1 and 99 and

Football League) have up to 34 substitutes. Moreover, there are many different positions that must
be assigned. So, a team is generally subdivided into three sections: the Offensive unit, the Defensive
unit and the Special teams unit. Nowadays, there are many complex tactics for each unit that the
players try to use in the matches. The most important position is the Quarterback. He is the leader of
the offense and calls the plays. Quarterbacks typically inform the rest of the offense of the following

Soccer Vs Basketball Research Paper
Unless one plays both soccer and basketball, it is easy to think that they are very different from each
other. While there are a few obvious differences, the two are a lot more alike than it may seem. The
point of each sport is the same. The concepts of how both are played are also very similar. The
techniques and rules, however, differ tremendously.
The game of basketball is played indoors on a wooden court. The court is a giant rectangle that
measures 84 x 50 feet. Two hoops with backboards are placed on opposite ends. There are five
players form two opposing teams on the court at the same time. The whole purpose of the game is to
put the ball in the hoop and score points. The team that scores the most points wins.
Soccer, however, is played outdoors on a much larger grass field called a pitch. A pitch measures
115 x 74 yards. In this sport the outline is a part of the field. If a player has the ball and dribbles
along the outline, the ball is still in play. In basketball the ball would be given to the opposite team if

Two point makes are called field goals. These are considered anywhere inside of the three point line.
Outside of the three point line, which is 19' 9" at the high school level, a made bucket counts for
three points. A three point play can be made of a field goal by making the shot and getting fouled.
Only one point at a time can be scored in soccer. No matter how close or how far the made shot is
taken from, it is still only one point. That is part of the reason why soccer is such a low scoring
game. A foul in soccer, which is easily put as any sort of language, gestures, or styles of playing that
is a disgrace to the game, will result with a free kick. This means that the team who was fouled gets
to put that ball at the place where the foul took place and kick it. The team guilty of the foul has to

Persuasive Essay : Why Is Basketball The Best Sport?
Basketball as it is known today invented by Physical Education Instructor Dr. James Naismith in
December 1891 in the town of Springfield, Massachusetts. He invented it to condition young
athletes during cold months and for it being an less injury prone sport than football. Why is
basketball good for either the players or spectators? There are ways to show why basketball is a
good sport for either player or spectators, by showing facts and experiences me and the people
encountered playing basketball. Basketball is the best sport due to its rules, facts, health and fitness
benefits, and people's experiences.
Basketball is the best sport because it can be played with two to five players each side, and also a
sport to play with friends and other competitors. According to Total Sportek, Basketball is the
second most played game in the world. It had at least a billion followers and is a major sport in USA
with NBA generating over 4.75 billion dollars per year in revenue. Basketball can also be played
with a person and be entertained for hours. It is a good sport to play because playing basketball has
benefits on health and fitness. It burns calories by running, jumping, and quick lateral movements
done in basketball provides a significant amount of aerobic exercise and can burn a great deal of
calories. It helps develop concentration and self discipline through the rules implemented in the
game, breaking them can result to penalties for the player and the team. Practicing self discipline
helps one another become more competitive and fair to their game focused in succeeding. It
improves awareness in which a person will be aware of oneself and evolve the understanding the
relationship of these objects when there is a change of position. Enhanced confidence in which self
esteem increases and help gain more confidence, being a confident person has more faith in his or
her skills and can face life with a better opposition. Basketball also helps players improve
concentration and encourages the development of teamwork. People dream of going to the NBA. It's
such an exciting game, filled with buzzer–beaters, blowouts, and ankle breakers. So much can also

Examples Of Making Mistakes Of Cleveland
If you are anything of a Cleveland Browns fan, you understand the struggle of watching your team

One thing Cleveland is consistent in doing is making mistakes. On the very first play from
scrimmage, Johnny Manziel fumbled the ball as he was trying to pass it. He was clearly nervous as
he was seen trying to wipe the sweat from his hands before the snap. This gave the Steelers the ball
in the red zone for three easy points. Later in the second quarter, Cleveland cornerback Chris Gaines
committed a ridiculous pass interference that set up Pittsburgh with great field position once again.

Playing My Best Game Of My Life
Goodish, Badish Basketball

all morning I was slow and then I played the best game of my life so far. It was a hard game one of

so well together that it was the best they ever played with each other. Even the shy people scored it
was great. The score was unbelievable 200 points to 0. But we actually lost 89 to 58. Yeah I knew,
how did I play the best. If we didn't even win and are team wasn't playing together like we always
do. Maybe it was because they just wanted the ball or maybe they were just scared. It was the last
game before the finals. I always go in thinking that we are going to lose. So I don't feel mad or
disappointed if we lose. It also helps me play harder. But this time I was sure we were gonna lose.

that they were pooping out pixels. Then we headed in for warm up's the crowd was cheering, but
then the other team comes in and it went crazy. As we were doing leg–up lines they were shooting

The 6–foot 8–inches Charlotte Hornets shooting guard has been regarded by many in the NBA as a
skilled defensive player, and one of the NBA's best executors of the chase–down block. The chase–

especially when they are playing defense. Currently, there are only two players in the 2012–13

The 27–year–old shooting guard has a career 36 percent shooter from long range, but acquiring

Basketball Personal Narrative
Basketball my 6th grade year was rough. It was my very first year ever playing sports. Since I went

rest of the girls were eighth graders that had a ball thrown at them the second the exited the womb;
let me just tell you that season sucked. Even though I cried after every game because I wasn't good
enough and in practice always crossed the finish line last I still somehow loved the game. It wasn't
the only game I loved though; I also loved soccer. After I kept the benches warm 6th grade year I
decided I was going to work hard. I started running a mile at least once a week. Which turned into
two miles after I filled a few buckets of sweat after a couple weeks. I had convinced my uncle to let
me be a substitute on his indoor soccer team since I already missed tryouts. I loved indoor soccer so
much and that's when I began to really start improving. I scored my first goal that season with five
others after. I loved the feeling of putting in every drop of work I could into a game that I truly
loved. Travel soccer didn't only make me better at sports but I improved as a person. I began to be

Stephen Curry's Influence On Basketball
His absurd athleticism, his preposterous play, and his stunning shooting have lead to a revolution in
his sport. 6'3", 200 pound Golden State Warriors' guard Steph Curry, 28, has thoroughly changed the
sport of basketball over the course of his professional basketball career in three major ways. First,
his mastery of the three point shot has proven that the three pointer is on the rise as it pertains to
basketball shots. Second, his play has shown how people of average builds can be dominate in the
sport of basketball. Third, his success has proven that professional basketball is operated differently
than the days when monsters like Wilt Chamberlain and Larry Bird once controlled the area
underneath the basket; basketball is now played from behind a curved arc on the hardwood: a
boundary and a new opportunity for basketball players all over the globe: the three point line, and
Stephen Curry is the reason, or at least part of the reason, that young players are transforming the
game of basketball right before our eyes. Steph Curry has chosen to take a different path than most
basketball players. He began his career just like any other, perfecting all aspects of his game.

Throughout this vast country we as Americans are entertained by many different things, including

The offense of football is one unit that goes on the field to play against the opponents' defense.
When the offensive unit scores or turns the ball over, it goes to the sideline to await its turn to go
back out on to the field, and the same rules apply for the defensive unit. Football scores can be in
increments of one, two, three, and six points. They are scored by kicking a field goal after a
touchdown, tackling for safety, kicking a field goal in regulation play, running the ball into the end
zone. Football is played at a high speed with a lot of intensity. Basketball, on the other hand is
played inside on a court. There are only five players per team on the court at a time. Players have to
play both offense and defense simultaneously. The scoring in basketball is also different; points can
be scored in increments of one, two and three, these are scored by shooting the ball into a hoop.
Basketball is a game that is played by skilled people who can jump high, shoot well, and have great
ball handling skills. Playing basketball requires you to have to have endurance, because running
from offense to defense and back to offense requires you to be in great shape. Basketball is played at

equally exciting. They are both played with a lot enthusiasm and heart. Basketball and football have

A Heated Competitive Nature Of Basketball
I grew up with five brothers, naturally there was a heated competitive nature in my household over
anything and everything. Notably when the competition at hand was the sport of basketball.
Growing up basketball was more than a game, it was a way of life. My brothers and I analyzed
every aspect of basketball, we were students of the game. I recall the 2008 NCAA Men's Basketball
Tournament, there was this undersized point guard playing for Davidson College by the name of
Stephen Curry. This kid took the basketball world by storm, he became an overnight sensation. He
led the Davidson College Wildcats all the way to the National Quarterfinals, an oddity for
Davidson's basketball program. Despite losing to Kansas in the National Quarterfinals, he increased
his draft stock from possibly undrafted to a first round talent over the course of a few weeks.
Additionally, in the 2009 NBA Draft Stephen Curry was selected 7th overall, and from that point on
he has changed the game of basketball like never before. Steph Curry or the "Babyface Assassin"
changed the game by his upbringing, style of play, and his portrayal. Stephen Curry was born on
March 14, 1988. His father is Dell Curry, a man who played for the Charlotte Hornets for all of his
16 years in the NBA. Regardless of his father playing on the highest level, it was his mother Sonya
who instituted the legendary work ethic of Steph Curry. His mother was a division one volleyball

In football, you are able to score points by touchdown, field goal, extra point, or a safety. In rugby,
you are able to score points by a try, penalty, conversion, or drop goal. Starting with football, a
touchdown is how you want to score the most because each touchdown is worth six points. You can
get one by either running into the goal zone or by passing the ball and crossing the goal line. An
extra point follows a touchdown. There are two ways of scoring an extra point. Kicking a field goal
is worth just one after a touchdown, but if you try to run it or pass it into the goal zone again it will
be worth two points. Both extra points would start at the two–yard line. A field goal which is worth
3 points, can be tried from anywhere on the field, but because of its increase in difficulty, many
teams get as close as possible to score one. Last, there is a safety. This is scored by the defense on
the field and is worth two points. All the defense has to do is tackle the player on offense who has
the ball into their own goal zone. Rugby has clear differences in the way that they score their points.
A try is worth five points and can only be scored when the player scores in the opponents goal in
what is called the "goal in" area. A penalty is worth three points. This is attempted when the
opposing team has made a penalty against the other team and that team has the chance to kick a goal
which is very similar to a field goal. A conversion is just like a two–point conversion in football but
instead of running the ball or passing it, rugby kicks it like a field goal and is still two points. Lastly,
is the drop goal. A drop goal is worth three points. To score you must be in an open play and the
player must drop the ball on the ground and kick it to the goal after the ball has already

To begin, my first goal going into college is to major in Pre–Medicine. This entails a combination of

On defense, there are defensive linemen who aim to tackle, or "sack" the quarterback. Next, the
linebackers serve as support by standing behind the linemen, they get their name by literally
"backing the line." Specifically, their job is to tackle the running back or quarterback if either one of
them crosses the "line of scrimmage," or the initial location of the ball, with the ball in hand.
Furthermore, the defensive backs attempt to prevent the wide receivers from catching passes from
the quarterback. On the other hand, in the game of soccer, the only piece of equipment required is
shin guards. Soccer is a contact sport, but no one tackles anyone like in football, so the use of
shoulder pads and helmets is not necessary. As opposed to football, the home team in a soccer game
wears white jerseys and the visiting team wears the colorful jerseys. In a soccer game, a team's
offense and defense is on the field simultaneously, there is no alternation of a team's offense and
defense. Each team has a goalie, also known as a keeper, to serve as the last line of defense against
the offense. This player is the only one who may use his/her hands on the field, but he/she must
remain inside the eighteen–yard–goalie–box to do so. A number of three to five defenders position

Everyone else as well who witnessed the night of our comeback victory were amazed. All I could
ever think of now was just how I reacted without even thinking about what to do during those last
eleven seconds. Just never giving up was my mentality. Time was short, but felt long and fast. I was
placed in a time zone where I will always remember that glorious

My Best Game Essay
Best basketball
The day I played my best. It was in the morning we had to get up to go to are basketball games. Like
all morning I was slow and then I played the best game of my life so far. It was a hard game one of
the hardest game ever, no it was the hardest game ever. I know what you're thinking, the team played
so well together that it was the best they ever played with each other. Even the shy people scored it
was great. The score was unbelievable 200 points to 0. But we actually lost 89 to 58. Yeah I knew,
how did I play the best. If we didn't even win and are team wasn't playing together like we always
do. Maybe it was because they just wanted the ball or maybe they just were scared. It was the last
game before the finals. I always go in thinking that we are going to lose. So I don't feel mad or
disappointed if we lose. It also helps me play harder. But this time I was sure we were gonna lose.
They were two times the size of me. They were like trees towering over me. Even their smallest girl
was taller than our tallest girl. But they were in our division. We've never even seen them play
before, but we knew they were good. They were all wearing orange pixel shorts. We were joking
that they were pooping out pixels. Then we headed in for warm up's the crowd was cheering, but
then the other team comes in and it went crazy. As we were doing leg–up lines they were shooting
three's and making all of them. But they were slow and that's where we had an advantage. Then the
game started and we were preparing for the jump ball. I know that we're not getting that ball and I
saw one girl in a running position. So I went down to half court, then as soon as the ref threw the
ball in the air the girl was running. Before the ball even got touched by the players. As soon as they
got the ball they tried to pass the ball to the girl. I was running to get the ball, I jumped forward and
stole the ball. All of the other girls' momentum was going in the other direction. So I just went by
and score without a finger on me. After that happen the coach was yelling at them for letting me get
the ball. Then they stepped it up shooting a three pointer after three pointer. At this point they are in
the lead. Then they put the

Philadelphia 76Er Essay

  • 1. Philadelphia 76er Essay This season, all eyes will be on the Philadelphia 76ers to see if they can take that next step towards a potential playoff berth. In offseason, the team signed both sharpshooter J.J. Redick and big man Amir Johnson to one–year deals in free agency to pair with the youth movement led by center Joel Embiid. However, while all the attention is on the guys apart of the 15–man roster, the Sixers and the rest of the NBA have an additional two roster spots, which is for two–way contracts. This should help a lot of teams this season as they can develop players through their system while getting valuable playing time in the G League. Earlier this summer, the Sixers used one of their two–way slots on forward James Michael McAdoo. McAdoo spent the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If that wasn't amazing enough, Pullen upped the ante in his senior year, averaging 20.2 points, 3.7 assists, 2.9 rebounds, and 1.6 steals in 32.6 minutes per game. Just like he did as a junior, Pullen continued to show off his hot shooting stroke, knocking down 42.6 percent from the field and 38.1 percent from three–point range. Despite ending his four–year career at Kansas State on a high note, Pullen would go undrafted in 2011 and began his world tour playing basketball. He started off playing hoops with Pallacanestro Bella in Italian Lega Basket Seria A and continued to do what he does best, scoring points. With Pallacanestro Bella, Pullen averaged 16.0 points, shot 42.1 percent from the field and 34.1 percent from three–point range in 34.3 minutes per game. Three–point shooting would become Pullen's best friend overseas as he would have a ridiculous game a few seasons later with FC Barcelona Lassa. Against C.B. Valladolid, Pullen went off for 42 points on 12–of–15 shooting from distance, leading his team to victory. The former Kansas State Wildcat put on the clinic, showing he could knock down the three–ball off screens and off the dribble. However, do not let the three–point shot fool you. Pullen can get to the basket at will and has a nice hang dribble, which throws his defenders off. Last season, he played with Khimki in the VTB United league and even though his

Some people that like basketball think that Dell Curry is better than his son but if you look at the history of statistics between the two, and the goals that they have achieve as individuals that have a love for the game of basketball technically Stephen Curry is better than his father, But also the three point line was put into the NBA on October 12 , 1979. Which one will excel better or be a fan favorite upon the people and their opinions? Basketball is one of the most popular sports in the world. It was so popular that it became an Olympic sport in 1936. It was invented in 1891 by James Naismith at the YMCA. They played with peach baskets and a soccer ball, spherical ball. The court is 31 yards and there are 2 baskets to score on. On March 2,1962, Wilt "the stilt" scored 100 points in a game. The most ever scored by a single player in a game. • 8. Analytics In Basketball There is a field in the sport of basketball that is growing at a rapid pace. That field is called analytics. Nearly every team in the NBA now has an analytics department. However, it is important to fully understand analytics before applying that knowledge to the sport of basketball. "Analytics is the discovery and communication of meaningful patterns in data" (Stolbunov 1). Analytics being used in sports is simply called sports analytics. Even though analytics has its flaws, it has had a major impact on team building in basketball using statistics like player efficiency rating and effective field goal percentage. There are many important statistics used in analytics, but a couple are used to very great effect. One of the most important statistics ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In baseball, the book "Moneyball" revolutionized the way that the whole sport looked at analytics. Basketball has a comparable situation. The book "Basketball on Paper" dives into the numbers behind the sport (Haefner 10). In this book, author Dean Oliver states there are four main statistics to tell which team will win, and also states of how much importance these statistics are. He says that a team's shooting is forty percent of winning, turnovers are twenty five percent, rebounding is twenty percent, and and free throws are fifteen percent (Haefner 11). One of the fathers of analytics in basketball claims that shooting is far and away the most important statistic in the game. However, in order to know how a team is performing in this category, the team must be compared against other teams. Doing this is extremely easy. If comparing two teams playing each other, the opposing team's effective field goal percentage is simply subtracted from the team being observed (Haefner 15). A golden example of the utility of effective field goal percentage is the Golden State Warriors. This team has broken records for three pointers made, and recently won seventy three games in a single season. The Warriors have an advantage on almost every other team in the NBA because of the vast amount of three pointers that they take (Dizikes 2). The ease with which effective field goal percentage can be used and its direct correlation to which team wins the game makes it possibly the most useful statistic in the game of basketball. However, while shooting does have a direct correlation for team performance, it does not always have a major impact on how a single player ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. The Rugby League Rugby is a team sport played on a field. There are three main forms of rugby rugby league, rugby union and sevens. This paper will focus primarily on elements that they have in common. For the first two forms, there are thirteen players on the field for each team. A game is eighty minutes long and is divided into two halves of continuous action. The objective of rugby is to carry an oblong ball down the field and across the opponent's goal line. This is the main scoring play, known as a try. A try is worth five points. In order to count for a try, the player must take the ball across the goal line and set it down on the ground. The point at which the ball is set down is used as the basis for the try at goal. This is a kicking play, and it follows a try. The team that scored the try attempts to kick the ball through the upright goal in the middle of the field. If successful, the try at goal is worth two points. The other way that rugby teams can earn points is through field goals. This is earned any time a player kicks the ball through the uprights of the opponent. This can happen from open play or on a penalty, and is worth one point. Rugby is played on a large field and the players wear little equipment. There is no mandatory protective equipment, despite the high level of contact in the game. Some players do opt to wear head gear or mouthguards, and also shin guards to protect against cleats. There are a number of positions on the field, generally divided ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

But it changed to five points in 1898 and then it changed back to four in 1904 field goal points changed from four to three but now it is 1 point for a field goal. Forward pass was legalized. The NFL, which long had followed the rules of college football, made a number of significant changes from the college game for the first time and began to develop rules serving its needs and the style of play it preferred. The innovations from the 1932 championship game–inbounds line or hashmarks and goal posts on the goal lines–were adopted. Also the forward pass was legalized from anywhere behind ... • 14. Performance Analysis : The International Basketball... CHAPTER 2 LITERATURE REVIEW 2.0 Previous research The majority of previous research pertaining to performance analysis in basketball has been focused on the quantitative analysis of game–related statistics, commonly found in a basketball box–score (Sampaio et al., 2006). These game–related statistics include: field goal attempts, field goals made, field goal percentage, 3–point field goal attempts, 3–point field goals made, 3–point field goal percentage, free throws attempted, free throws made, free throw percentage, defensive rebounds, offensive rebounds, assists, steals, blocks, turnovers and personal fouls. The practical value of performance analysis is that well–chosen performance indicators allow good and bad techniques or team performances to be highlighted (Hughes & Franks, 2008). Trinic et al. (2002) analysed the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) official performance indicators with the goal of identifying parameters that differentiated between winning and losing teams which played in the final tournaments of the European club championships from 1992 to 2000. Discriminant function structure coefficients (SC) from discriminant analysis exposed that defensive rebounds (SC = 0.42), field goal percentage (3–point field goals made SC = 0.24, 3–point field goals missed SC = –0.30, 2–point field goals made SC = 0.14 and 2–point field goals missed SC = –0.26), and free throw percentage (SC = 0.26) had the highest discriminative power respectively. ... • 18. The Hot Hand Theory Of Basketball Is A Fallacy Essay Evidence presented throughout the last forty years has suggested that the Hot Hand theory in basketball is a "fallacy." Evidence suggested that there is no scientific reasoning for being able to improve one's odds of making a jump shot, if the previous three shots were made. New evidence presented by, Andrew Bocskocsky, John Ezekowitz, and Carolyn Stein, suggested that there is a better chance of making a shot if the previous three shots have been made. The authors have used equations that take into account different aspects of the game, which could influence "hotness." Previously, these variables have not been taken into account, which could have possibly skewed the data. The evidence in the peer–reviewed journal article, has taken into account all aspects of the game that could influence the probability that a shot will, or will not go in. In the article Bocskocsky, Ezekowitz, and Stein, used a data set from 83,000 shot attempts throughout the 2012– 2013 NBA season. From each shot taken, stats were recorded regarding the different aspects of the shot. First off, shot difficulty needs to be taken into account. Who is taking the shot will influence the probability of the shot going in, depending if it is a high percentage three–point shooter taking the shot, or a center taking the three point shot. Another factor that has been taken into account is the amount of time left, and score differential. These two factors will heavily influence the mindset of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 24. Assessing The Performance Of A Team For many years decisions by coaches and managers had been decided by what they would call their "gut" feeling. Coaches would make draft picks based on how they felt and would change their game plans based on what they thought was best. Nowadays front offices and coaches like to use analytics. Analytics takes a teams and individual players stats, and analyzes them to evaluate the performance of a team or individual. Doing this can better your chance of success in todays sports(Porreca). The use of analyzing statistics in sports is a fairly new concept, however statistics in sports have been kept for a little over 50 years. The idea to use analytics is so new that in 2005, only a couple of NBA teams had used high levels of statistical analysis to track players and tactics (Porreca). The first use of analyzing statistics to make decisions for a team was done by Billy Beane the Oakland Athletics' General Manager in baseball during the year 2001. Beane developed a theory now known as the "Moneyball Theory" which uses "the analysis of statistics to evaluate the performance of a team and its individual players." (Porreca) Beane's theory was that a team that had a higher on base percentage was more likely to score and win more games. He thought that the more you get on base the more likely you are to score runs, thus winning more often(Steinberg 1). Beane also looked at additional statistics that showed college baseball players were better prepared for the professionals, so Beane ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 26. Touch Down In Football Essay The aim of this game is to move the oval ball towards the opposition's end zone and finally into their end zone (called Touchdown). This can be achieved by either running with the ball until you arrive at the end zone, or throwing the ball down field to a team mate, who catches the ball in this zone. You are also able to get extra points by a field goal. Of course, the opposing team tries to prevent these cases. After one team finished the attack, the other gets the ball and is able to do the same. The team with the most points at the end of a game wins. The match takes place on a rectangular field that is 120 yards (110 m) long and 53.33 yards (48.76 m) wide. On the whole field are yard– lines and at both ends is an end zone and the goal posts. 1.2 Downs: Downs are a really important part of NFL play. • 28. Soccer Vs Basketball Research Paper Unless one plays both soccer and basketball, it is easy to think that they are very different from each other. While there are a few obvious differences, the two are a lot more alike than it may seem. The point of each sport is the same. The concepts of how both are played are also very similar. The techniques and rules, however, differ tremendously. The game of basketball is played indoors on a wooden court. The court is a giant rectangle that measures 84 x 50 feet. Two hoops with backboards are placed on opposite ends. There are five players form two opposing teams on the court at the same time. The whole purpose of the game is to put the ball in the hoop and score points. The team that scores the most points wins. Soccer, however, is played outdoors on a much larger grass field called a pitch. A pitch measures 115 x 74 yards. In this sport the outline is a part of the field. If a player has the ball and dribbles along the outline, the ball is still in play. In basketball the ball would be given to the opposite team if the person ... Only one point at a time can be scored in soccer. No matter how close or how far the made shot is taken from, it is still only one point. That is part of the reason why soccer is such a low scoring game. A foul in soccer, which is easily put as any sort of language, gestures, or styles of playing that is a disgrace to the game, will result with a free kick. This means that the team who was fouled gets to put that ball at the place where the foul took place and kick it. The team guilty of the foul has to be at least 10 feet away from the person ... This got my full, unwavering attention and I continued to read. Within the paper, Miller and Sanjurjo included a basic example to aid in explaining their findings. In their experiment, a person flips a coin four times in the air. Sanjurjo elaborated (quote), "We noted the results of each throw, and calculated the percentage of heads tossed immediately after another head for all possible throw sequences." He went on to say (quote), "The results were unexpected: the proportion is not 50%, as we intuitively believe, but actually around 40%. These results suggest the existence of a ... • 58. A Heated Competitive Nature Of Basketball I grew up with five brothers, naturally there was a heated competitive nature in my household over anything and everything. Notably when the competition at hand was the sport of basketball. Growing up basketball was more than a game, it was a way of life. My brothers and I analyzed every aspect of basketball, we were students of the game. I recall the 2008 NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament, there was this undersized point guard playing for Davidson College by the name of Stephen Curry. This kid took the basketball world by storm, he became an overnight sensation. He led the Davidson College Wildcats all the way to the National Quarterfinals, an oddity for Davidson's basketball program. Despite losing to Kansas in the National Quarterfinals, he increased his draft stock from possibly undrafted to a first round talent over the course of a few weeks. Additionally, in the 2009 NBA Draft Stephen Curry was selected 7th overall, and from that point on he has changed the game of basketball like never before. Steph Curry or the "Babyface Assassin" changed the game by his upbringing, style of play, and his portrayal. Stephen Curry was born on March 14, 1988. His father is Dell Curry, a man who played for the Charlotte Hornets for all of his 16 years in the NBA. Regardless of his father playing on the highest level, it was his mother Sonya who instituted the legendary work ethic of Steph Curry. His mother was a division one volleyball star at Virginia Tech, so Soyna knew what it took ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Football Vs Rugby Research Paper Football is a spinoff of rugby that was first played by the Rutgers in 1868, but it wasn't until 1880's where the first rules and guideline for American football were laid out. Both football and rugby are high intensity sports that require a lot of endurance, stamina, and technique. Although Football is a more popular sport in America, rugby is played all over the world by millions of people. Though they are both so similar, they do have their differences such as the penalties, uniform changes, and the point system, both sports appeal to all different kinds of people. Beginning with penalties, both sports have their own way of dealing with foul play. Football has many different penalties like holding, pass interference, fumble, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In football, you are able to score points by touchdown, field goal, extra point, or a safety. In rugby, you are able to score points by a try, penalty, conversion, or drop goal. Starting with football, a touchdown is how you want to score the most because each touchdown is worth six points. You can get one by either running into the goal zone or by passing the ball and crossing the goal line. An extra point follows a touchdown. There are two ways of scoring an extra point. Kicking a field goal is worth just one after a touchdown, but if you try to run it or pass it into the goal zone again it will be worth two points. Both extra points would start at the two–yard line. A field goal which is worth 3 points, can be tried from anywhere on the field, but because of its increase in difficulty, many teams get as close as possible to score one. Last, there is a safety. This is scored by the defense on the field and is worth two points. All the defense has to do is tackle the player on offense who has the ball into their own goal zone. Rugby has clear differences in the way that they score their points. A try is worth five points and can only be scored when the player scores in the opponents goal in what is called the "goal in" area. A penalty is worth three points. This is attempted when the opposing team has made a penalty against the other team and that team has the chance to kick a goal which is very similar to a field goal. A conversion is just like a two–point conversion in football but instead of running the ball or passing it, rugby kicks it like a field goal and is still two points. Lastly, is the drop goal. A drop goal is worth three points. To score you must be in an open play and the player must drop the ball on the ground and kick it to the goal after the ball has already ... In football, there are two areas on opposite sides of the field where one can score points by bringing the football over the goal line. Soccer shares this same concept by having two nets on opposite sides of the field where one can score a point by kicking the soccer ball into the net. Also, both sports share the concept of having an offense and defense, and both sports each have eleven players on a team on the field at a time. Next, the linebackers serve as support by standing behind the linemen, they get their name by literally "backing the line." Specifically, their job is to tackle the running back or quarterback if either one of them crosses the "line of scrimmage," or the initial location of the ball, with the ball in hand. Furthermore, the defensive backs attempt to prevent the wide receivers from catching passes from the quarterback. On the other hand, in the game of soccer, the only piece of equipment required is shin guards. Soccer is a contact sport, but no one tackles anyone like in football, so the use of shoulder pads and helmets is not necessary. As opposed to football, the home team in a soccer game wears white jerseys and the visiting team wears the colorful jerseys. In a soccer game, a team's offense and defense is on the field simultaneously, there is no alternation of a team's offense and defense. Each team has a goalie, also known as a keeper, to serve as the last line of defense against the offense. This player is the only one who may use his/her hands on the field, but he/she must remain inside the eighteen–yard–goalie–box to do so. Like all morning I was slow and then I played the best game of my life so far. It was a hard game one of the hardest game ever, no it was the hardest game ever. I know what you're thinking, the team played so well together that it was the best they ever played with each other. Even the shy people scored it was great. The score was unbelievable 200 points to 0. But we actually lost 89 to 58. Yeah I knew, how did I play the best. If we didn't even win and are team wasn't playing together like we always do. Maybe it was because they just wanted the ball or maybe they just were scared. It was the last game before the finals. I always go in thinking that we are going to lose. So I don't feel mad or disappointed if we lose. It also helps me play harder. But this time I was sure we were gonna lose. They were two times the size of me. They were like trees towering over me. Even their smallest girl was taller than our tallest girl. But they were in our division. We've never even seen them play before, but we knew they were good. They were all wearing orange pixel shorts. We were joking that they were pooping out pixels. Then we headed in for warm up's the crowd was cheering, but then the other team comes in and it went crazy. As we were doing leg–up lines they were shooting three's and making all of them. But they were slow and that's where we had an advantage. Then the game started and we were preparing for the jump ball. I know that we're not getting that ball and I saw one girl in a running position. So I went down to half court, then as soon as the ref threw the ball in the air the girl was running. Before the ball even got touched by the players. As soon as they got the ball they tried to pass the ball to the girl. I was running to get the ball, I jumped forward and stole the ball. All of the other girls' momentum was going in the other direction. So I just went by and score without a finger on me. After that happen the coach was yelling at them for letting me get the ball.
