Azure Backup resource group for
virtual machines (GA)
• Today, Backup service creates a separate resource group different
than the resource group of the VM to store restore point collection
• The default naming format of the resource group created by Backup
service is:
AzureBackupRG_<Geo>_<n>.
‘n’ is replaced with an integer (starting from 1) and is used for scaling
out in case the first RG is full. The user can edit the name of the
resource group by modifying policy as and when required. Users are
advised not to lock the resource group created for use by the Backup
service.

• With this release, customers can either go with the default name, or
can update it as per their company requirements.
• The user is required to provide the RG name pattern as input during
VM backup policy creation, if he wants a customised RG name other
than the default created by Azure Backup service. The RG name
should be of the format:
<alpha-numeric string>* n <alpha-numeric string>

Azure Databox Disk (GA)
• Data Box Disk is an SSD-disk-based option for offline data transfer to
Azure.
• It’s ideal for a recurring or one-time data migration of up to 40 TB to
Azure and is especially well suited for data migration from multiple
remote or branch offices.
• As part of the service offering, we'll send you encrypted SSD disks
with a USB 3.1/SATA II/III interface for secure data transfer and
provide forward/return shipping to our datacenter

Azure Databox Disk (GA)
• Workflow
• Order - Create an order in the Azure portal, provide shipping information, and
the destination Azure storage account for your data. If disks are available,
Azure encrypts, prepares, and ships the disks with a shipment tracking ID.
• Receive - Once the disks are delivered, unpack, and connect the disks to the
computer that has the data to be copied. Unlock the disks.
• Copy data - Drag and drop to copy the data on the disks.
• Return - Prepare and ship the disks back to Azure datacenter.
• Upload - Data is automatically copied from the disks to Azure. The disks are
securely erased as per the National Institute of Standards and Technology
(NIST) guidelines.
