Roles and Requirements – OTN aggregation (not just hard optics) as a
flexible and scalable transport infrastructure in support of 5G NR
application scenarios
Enhanced Mobile Broadband, eMBB – Network capabilities include
peak data rate up to 20Gb/s; user experience data rate up to 100Mb/s;
mobility at 500km/h; area traffic density at 10Mb/s/m2
Ultra Reliable and Low Latency Communication, UrLLC – Network
capabilities include end-to-end latency less than 1ms; reliability better than
5 x 9’s
Massive Machine Type Communication, mMTC – Network capabilities
include connection density up to 106
devices/km2
; high-precision time
transfer < 100ns
Software-Controlled Optical Parameters within the Forwarding Plane, driven by
User-Centric Application Layer
