LESSON PLAN
PRELIMINARY DETAILS
Name of the teacher: Reshmy Rajan std: 8
Name of the school: Govt. VHSS Pattazhy. Div: A
Name of the subject: chemistry time: 40 min
Name of the unit: for stability date: 1/8/2014
Name of the topic: formation of chlorine molecule
And oxygen molecule
Curricular statement
Through performing and observing Activities participating in group discussion,
receiving teacher scaffolding learner construct the concept of formation of
chlorine molecule and oxygen molecule
Content analysis
 Sharing of electrons
Facts :
 Two chlorine atoms combine to form a chlorine molecule
 Two oxygen atom combine to form an oxygen molecule
 Electronic configuration of each chlorine atom is 2,8,7
 Electronic configuration of each oxygen atom is 2.6
Concepts :
 Some atoms attains stability through sharing of electrons
 For attaining stability atoms share one pair or two pair ,etc.of electrons
each other
Learning outcomes: the learner becomes able to.
A] COGNITIVE COMPETENCIES :
 Re call the above mention terms facts and concepts
 Recognize the elements attain stability through sharing
of electrons
 Performs activities related to this topic
B] AFFECITIVE COMPETENCIES:
 Shows willingness to know more about sharing of electrons
 shows lagerness to know more about sharing of electrons
PRE-REQUISITES:
A)COGNITIVE: knowledge about formation of chlorine molecule &O2 molecule
B)AFFECTIVE: interest to know about formation of 4 chlorine molecule &o2
molecule
C)PSYCOMOTOR: still to do activities
SUPPORTING MATERIALS:
ACTIVITY CARD, black board, chart
CLASSROOM INTERACTION PROCEDURE EXPECTED RESPONSE
INTRODUCTION :
Tapping the experience of the learner
The teacher begins the class by showing the chart related to
the topic formation of chlorine molecule
PRESENTATION:
ACTIVITY 1:
The teacher divides the class into different groups and give
discussion questions
DISCUSSION POINT
 WHAT TO THE two chlorine atoms requires to attain
stability
 Is there a possibility of 1 chlorine atom giving electron
to the other
 How did chlorine atom stability
 How many electrons did each chlorine atom share
CONCEPT FORMATION:
The learner arrives at these concepts two chlorine atoms
combines to from a chlorine molecule .electron
configuration of each chlorine atom is 2,8,7 . chlorine attain
stability through sharing of one pair of electrons each other.
Thus the 2 chlorine atom gains 8 electrons in its valence
shell and complete these odes. Thus the 8 electrons
arraignment is also formed by sharing electronics in these
manner
ACTIVITY 2 : the leader show another chart of formation of
Pupil observe the chart
NO
By sharing electrons
One electron
The pupil notes the
concepts
oxygen molecule
DISCUSSUION POINT:
 How many electrons did each oxygen atom share?
 How many electrons are either exchanged or shared
by oxygen atom in the following molecule
 In magnesium oxide exchanged /shared
 In oxygen molecule : exchanged/shared
CONCEPT FORMATION:
Each oxygen atom attain stability through sharing of two
pairs of electrons
SUMMARISATION :
the teacher summaries the formulated concepts in the class
REVIEW :
To strengthen the acquired knowledge the teacher ask
questions
 How chlorine molecule attains stability?
 How oxygen molecule attains stability
FOLLOW UP ACTIVITIES :
Find out more examples the elements attains stability
through sharing of electrons
Two electronics
Exchanged
Shared
The pupil notes the
concepts
The pupil answers the
question
The pupil notes down the
question in the note book
