The First Creation Myth Is The Hindu Version Of Creation
The first creation myth is the Hindu version of creation, and it is about the sacrifice of the Man
(Purusha), the man with a thousand heads, eyes, and feet. The Man himself is all this, whatever has
been and whatever is to be and he is the creator and the one creation comes from. He is sacrificed by
the gods and his body makes up the earth. The Man's mouth was the brahmin, his arms were made
into the nobles, his two thighs were the populace, and from his feet the servants were born. The
moon was born from his mind; the sun was born from his eye. After, his mouth came Indra (4) and
Agni, and from his vital breath the wind (Vyu) was born. Then his navel the atmosphere was born;
from his head the heaven emerged. From his two feet came the earth, and the expanses of the sky
from his ear.
The second creation story is the story from the Bible, which is Christians version of creation. On the
first day God (the creator) created light, the second day God created waters, the atmospheric water
and the oceanic water. On the third day God created dry land and vegetation, and on the forth day he
created the sun and the moon and the stars and planets. On the fifth day God created water creatures
and birds, and on the sixth day he created land animals and man. God creates all this out of nothing
and it takes him six days. He creates all this for the man to rule over and to multiply and for men to
in turn praise him.
The third creation myth is from the Huainanzi and it tells of the great

Essay On Creation Myths
Creation Myths My mythology class has been reading and learning about most of the creation
myths. A creation myth is how the earth began and how humans first came to inhabit it. Also, we
have reviewed the motifs of the myths. A motif is like a pattern of the similar situations happening
throughout the myths. The three motifs I thought that were the most common were that most had a
single creator, people were created from organic material, and the battles that went on between most
of the gods.
Most myths had a single creator In my opinion I think that if there were more than two creators then
that would be too much power. A creator is the one that puts the earth together and forms the first
humans on earth. Quite a few creation myth stories had only one god that created everything. For
example, the Babylonian had one creator which was Marduk, the Hindu had one creator which was
Prajapati, the Inuit had a single creator which was Raven, the Chinese said there was only one and
his name was Pan ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some of the battles were bigger than others but I thought that the battles were important to use as a
motif. In the Hindu creation there was a disagreement of the choices Prajapati was making with his
daughter. The other gods got very angry with Prajapati. For revenge the gods created a monster
named Rudra, and it haunted Prajapati. Once the monstrous creature found him, he shot him with an
arrow and killed him. In the Norse creation Odin was the god that created the humans, but the gods
did not accept how he was making them. Ymir's sisters especially did not agree with Odin's idea so
they planned to get revenge on Odin. The sisters gathered at the foot of the Yggdrasil and carved
lines into it, the lines represented human lives and the twist and turns that humans go through.
Humans would never be as powerful, not even Odin could fix the

Creation Motifs In Creation Myths
Creation Motifs In my opinion, 3 of the most common motifs in creation myths are The creation of
humans, Step – by – Step myths, and Parts of a god for a planet. These motifs are used in most of
cultures. Though these cultures did not know each other or "talk", they are still connected by these
motifs. Some of the creation myths share these ideas, but they also share more.
The creation of humans In certain creation myths, the creation of humans was difficult. In some of
these myths, humans were created more than once. In these next few paragraphs, the myths that had
humans created more than once will be explained. I think these of cultures incorporated this into
their myths because most humans aren't perfect, and people in these ... Show more content on

In the Mayan creation myth, animals were first created, they couldn't speak or do anything. So, Men
were made from clay. When the creators gave the humans life, they immediately crumpled. The
creator then carved the humans from wood. The wood creatures had no minds and no heart. So the
gods had to send a flood to destroy the humans. Then the creator tried white corn to make the
humans. They succeeded and the Mayan gods were happy with them. Even though the Greek,
Genesis, and the Mayan creation of humans are similar, there is one more that hasn't been mentioned
yet, and that is Yoruba. The Yoruban creation is a bit different from the others, but also very similar.
Obatala got bored of being on the Earth alone, so he began shaping clay figures. He was drinking
'palm wine' while doing so. He asked Olorun to breathe life into the people. All the people were
deformed because he was drunk while making them. Obatala then vowed to never drink again, and
he started working on new humans. After having Olorun breathe life into them, they immediately
started building houses and cities.
Step – by – Step Myth There are many myths that have a step – by – step creation of the world, but
only a few will be discussed. These are the same cultural myths from motif 1 because they are very
similar in many ways. I think that so many of the cultures incorporated this into their creation to
show that not everything can be done outright. It's a big job

Creation Myth, Myths And Beliefs Of Creation Traditions
All throughout ancient cultures, there are stories, legends, and myths. Many of these cultures share
similarities within their origin explanations. The recurrences of these stories are called motifs. From
great floods to benevolent creators, all creation myths share similarities within at least one other
myth, whether it be Babylonian,Christian, Greek, or Cheyenne. There can always be a motif found
in any creation myth; the most popular of which include man being created from organic materials,
the creator breathing life into the creation(man), and the earth and sky forming from the body of the
creator(s).
Man being created from organic materials One of the most commonly known creation myths is
about the Christian/Hebrew creation of man. In this myth, the first man is made from organic
materials and the first woman is made from a rib taken from the first man. Ancient cultures realized
that they were made from the same things as the environment around them, so it would only make
sense for their creation myth to involve man being made from all sorts of organic materials. This
inclusion of this motif shows that ancient cultures had at least a basic understanding of the elements
and what makes up everything on the earth. In the Cheyenne creation myth, Maheo also uses one of
his ribs to create the first human. Humans are respectively made from dirt clods, rocks, clay, demon
bones, trees, mud, stone, white corn, pea pods, and tears throughout various creation myths. Every

A creation story or myth is usually one that aims to dictate how the world was created. Though these
stories vary among cultures, religions, and nations, some are more popular than others. In Hinduism,
for instance, creation stems from the creator, called Brahma. However, the creator is portrayed in
various forms and Brahma has become less important than the other two members of the Hindu
trinity, Shiva and Vishnu (Leeming 35). It is believed that Brahma creates the world from various
forms of himself. This is essentially the ideality that Hindu's idea of creation portrays different
Gods/ avatars, correctly known as deities. Another creation story that has higher popularity in
America originates from the Bible. The traditional Judeo–Christian

Comparing The Song Of Creation And The Babylonian Creation...
Creation Myth Paper In this creation myth paper, one can will be comparing "The Song of Creation"
from the Rig Veda on page 15 in Fiero's The Humanistic Tradition, Book 1, with "The Babylonian
Creation" myth on page 19 to 20 in Fiero's The Humanistic Tradition, Book 1. "The Song of
Creation" from the Rig Veda on page 15 originates from India. Meanwhile "The Babylonian
Creation" myth on page 19 to 20 originated from Babylon. The main differences between these two
creation myths is that the first creation myth is based on the importance of water as the necessary
requirement for the beginning of life. For example, in the Rig Veda, the creation of the world was
stated to come from a "watery darkness" (Fiero 15). Meanwhile the second myth is more ... Show

The primary source narrates about how back then before the universe was created, there was no
existence, no death or immortality (Fiero 15). It also raises questions about the creation of the
universe such as "What covered it? Where was it? In whose keeping?" (Fiero 15). These shows the
uncertainty of how the universe came to be. Meanwhile in "The Babylonian Creation" myth, it
narrates or tells the story about not only how the universe was created, but also how the gods
entered the world, how the earth came to be, as well as the creation of Babylon and humans (Fiero
19). In the first myth, the universe was created when "That One which came to be enclosed in
nothing, arose at last, born of the power of heat" (Fiero 15). In my opinion, one canthink that back in
the time, the people who created this myth believed in a geocentric view of the universe where Earth
was in the center. And that "that One" came to be the sun which gave light to the world and allowed
the prospering of plants and life. Some imagery found in this primary source were "darkness
wrapped in darkness", "only illumined water" "cosmic waters, in depths unfathomed," (Fiero 15).
These forms of imagery depicts or describes what the universe was like before the "that One" arose.
The order of creation in this myth seems to be that of "the One" being in the empty universe before
anything else and then when "that One" arose, he or she brought heat as well as light in the world
which most likely led to the beginning of light in the world leading to life. In this creation myth, one
can feel like "the One" is the universe or the creation because according to lines 23, it states "The
gods themselves are later than creation" (Fiero 15). So one can feel like the universe created the
gods not the other way around. In the text, life began with the arrival

Creation myths are the most common form of mythology throughout most of the ancient cultures of
the world and evolved from first an oral history passed on to the next generation ending with
multiple versions. Mythologists have categorized these mythologies from the various and numerous
ancient cultures into five types, which include Ex Nihilo, Creation from Chaos, World Parent,
Emergence and Earth–Diver. The creation myth Ex Nihilo, which means "out of nothing" explains
how the world along with mankind were created by a creators speech, during a dream, wheb they

The Avesta tells how their supreme god named Ahura Mazda, also know as Ormazd, creates the
Earth, trees, plants, animals and mankind in the course of six periods with each period lasting 3,000
years. In the beginning, nothing else existed except for Ahura Mazda who lives in Endless Light.
Most of the modern biblical scholars believe that there are clearly two versions of the creation story
that exist in the chapters of Genesis 1 through 3 in the Old Testament. These versions appear to
come from three different authors or groups of authors called the Jahwist source, the Priestly sources
and the Redactor source. Written by the Priestly source, around 450BC, the first version begins in
Genesis 1:1–31 and ends in Genesis 2:1–3. Next, the Jahwist source writes the second version in
Genesis 2:4–25, around 950BC, with additional verses written, around 750 to 400BC, by the
Redactor source. With all of these dates in mind, it would then appear that the first version in
Genesis 1 was written at a later date than Genesis 2 resulting with the version from Genesis 2 being
the first version. Also, notice the differences between the 2 versions such as in Genesis 1 where the
focus is on the entire universe, whereas, in Genesis 2 the focus is on the creation of man and his
environment.

Creation Myth
Throughout our lives, we have heard many stories about the creation of earth and humans. Whether
they are religious based, myths, folk tales, or stories passed on through generations; they all have a
common purpose which is to explain how everything came to be. In the myth, The Creation of the
Universe and Human Beings, the creation of earth is explained through two gods that essentially
"fashioned" heaven and earth, as well as a goddess named Nu Kua that created human beings.
Throughout this story there is a common theme of creation, and the explaining of how earth and
human beings were created. Although this is a Chinese culture based myth, it still holds many
similarities and relevance to our world today. We all have our own idea or belief

Creation Myth
In the beginning...
There was only water and bare, empty land. In the center of this nothingness was a great mountain.
This mountain stood tall and proud and it reached all the way into the heavens. At the very top of
this mountain lived a pair of every kind of animal. In the center of this heaven grew a tree. This tree
was not just any tree, it was the sacred tree of life, and it was not to be harmed in any way.
Among the diverse group of animals was a pair of giraffes. The female giraffe had grown tired of
eating the same old leaves and fruits. Being strong–willed and stubborn she decided that she just had
to try a fruit from the sacred tree. She convinced her husband to accompany her and to be one of the

of his plans. That he had planned to give the animal and human life another chance, and to let them

Similarities Of Creation Myths
Creation myths are stories describing or explaining the creation of the world. Each culture has their
own creation myth and how they believe it all went about. However, there are many similarities
within the different cultures creation myths that I looked at. These similarities are called motifs.
Motifs are patterns you recognize within an idea. In my opinion, three of the most common creation
myth motifs are; humans being created from organic materials, having one creator and no shared
power, and the purpose for humans on the earth.
Humans being created from organic materials Looking back at all the creation myths I read about
and researched, I believe this is the most common motif. In my opinion, many cultures had to use
organic materials to create humans because there was just simply nothing else. There either was a
god or goddess, and an earth. The creators did not have much to work with and it took multiple tries
most of the time, but each culture did find a way to create some type of human being. The Greeks
did not give too much information on to why or how they made this happen, but we do know
humans originally came from dirt. The Hebrews and Christians started creating humans from dust,
clay, and dirt. God first used these organic materials to create Adam. The Babylonians used demons
bones from the dead. The Norse first used mud to create humans and they created 2 genders, male
and female. The Chinese also used mud, however a goddess created the first Chinese

Creation Thethology : The Beliefs Of The Norse Creation Myth
Norse creation mythology is full of dark chaos, murder and transition. The Norse creation myth also
known as cosmogony is considered one of the best accounts of such literature in the world. Initially,
there was only a gaping abyss which was known as Ginnungagap with no soil or sky. There were
two homelands, and one of them was known as Niflheim which was full of elemental ice while the
other was known as Muspelheim which was the land of elemental life. Fire flames from
Muspelheim blew towards Ginnungagap where it met ice from Niflheim making the frost melt form
drops. The drops formed were named Ymir which was one of the giants considered as gods. Ymir
could reproduce since it was a hermaphrodite and could asexually reproduce creating more giants
(McCoy, Daniel). Through this process, the first woman and man were created named Embla and
Ask who were formed from tree trunks. The two created a fence name Midgard to keep them away
from the other giants who could harm them (Lindow, John).
From the myth, there are three conceptual meanings embedded in it. One of them is that creation
cannot take place in a vacuum. It can be noted that life depends on what has already died which is a
principle noted when human beings eat (Lindow, John). It is one of the fundamental principles in
life where you have to give so that you can get and this principle is featured in the Norse creation
myth. Creation of the universe was not from nothing as in the case of Christian creation myth. In

Motifs in Creation Myths Essay
Motifs in Creation Myths The motifs found in the creation myths are undoubtedly different from
those found in any other type of myth. Contrary to popular belief, the purpose of the creation myths
is much greater than a primitive attempt to explain the mysteries of creation. Behind each creation
myth is a vast variety of symbolism along with a number of motives which are often shared between
cultures, despite vast geographical differences. My intention here is not only to discuss the purpose
of the creation myths, but also to compare and contrast common themes which can be found in three
selected works. These being, an Eskimo creation myth, the Ongwe creation myth and the Navajo
creation myth. Even with modern advances in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We now see these theories as inaccurate, due to the fact that they have been replaced by newer
scientific models. In a modern light, it can be stated that creation myths describe not the origin of
our cosmos but rather these myths allow us to gain a broader understanding of ancient theories and
beliefs. During the time of their invention however, these myths were precisely an honest
interpretation of the outer world, and therefore they served the exact purpose which is stated in their
title, to explain the process of creation. A technique that is used in many creation myths can be
referred to as "creation from above." In this method of narration, the creator often creates a replica
of earth within the heavens, and somehow recreates this image in the abyss below. An example of
this can originally be found in Kund Rasmussen's collection of Eskimo myths. In this story a being
called Tulungersaq, or Father Raven is born in the heavens. He initially takes the form of a human
being and is entirely unaware of how he came into existence. He is in complete darkness and it is
through his sense of touch that he becomes aware of his surroundings. Through his exploration, he
discovers a sparrow, and realizes that this is the only form of life that had been in existence before
him. He goes on to bury something beneath the earth and soon after he discovers that the earth is no
longer sterile, it is now covered in bushes and grass. Tulungersaq is still

The Iroquois Creation Myth
Exegesis Many Native Americans tell stories of the creation of earth that explain how they came to
be before the Europeans entered North America. Creation myths vary among all cultures; however,
they all have one thing in common; heaven and earth. One of the most popular creation myths was
the Iroquois creation myth. The Iroquois or Haudenosaunee meaning "People of the Longhouse"
(Iroquois Indian Museum, n.d.) consists of six Indian nations that include the Mohawk, Oneida,
Onondaga, Cayuga, Seneca, and Tuscarora tribes. In the beginning, there was a belief that before the
creation of earth, there were two realms, the sky, and the lower world that consisted of water and
water creatures. From the sky, a young woman named the Sky Woman was ... Show more content on

He flung her head into the night sky and threw her body into the ocean, resulting in the Sky Woman
becoming Grandmother moon. Interpretation The story of the Sky Woman, her daughter and twin
grandsons depicts the beginning of the world and creates the belief that everyone is born with good
and evil in them. The significance of nature influences how the Native Americans belief that nature,
animals, and humans are equal counterparts. If it had not been for the help of the animals, Sky
Woman would have died and the creation of earth would not exist. The twins play a significant role
among the Iroquois that the good and evil are necessary for the world to be in balance. The belief
that Sky Woman is the leader of all female life who "controls the rise and fall of the waters and a
companion to the stars" (Olan, n.d.) and "regulates the monthly cycles of all females in which
guarantees new life will be born" (Olan, n.d.). The myth signifies the Native American belief of how
the creation and reincarnation of humans connects to the rise and fall of the sun and moon. The
Iroquois Creation Myth is a detailed and complex myth that has many different versions. The
earliest complete transcription and translation of the Iroquois creation myth by David Cusick's

Cosmology : A Creation Myth
At the infrastructure of nearly every culture is a creation myth that explains how Earth in its entity
came to be. Cosmology is defined as being all of the assumptions we make about how the universe
is arranged. Modern society has developed possible assumptions in regards as to how the universe
came to be and in similar so did ancient cultures. These myths have an immense influence on
people's framework of reference. They all come from one early source and are divergent only
because time and local cultural circumstances have exaggerated or modified them. Despite being
separated by numerous geographical barriers, many cultures before and after Genesis have
developed creation myths that share common aspects that are fundamentally derived ... Show more

And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day
from all his work which he had made..." (Gen. 2.4). In the second story, creation takes one day, man
is created first, then proceeds the creation of all the plants and animals, and in the end, the woman is
created. To further reiterate what some people believe Genesis One and Two are no doubt
contradictions based on the descriptions others have the intuition that Genesis One is the account of
the creation of the universe and life on planet Earth as it happened in chronological order. Genesis
Two is simply an expanded explanation of the events that occurred at the end of the sixth and
creation day–when God created human beings.
Indian myth is confronted by the imaginative riot of Vedic, Hindu, Buddhist, and Jainic deities that
gives rise to the God–given creation as seen in Genesis. In the early myths of the Rig Veda it was
said: "who verily knows and can declare whence came this creation? He, the first origin of this
creation, whose eye in the highest heaven controls this world, whether he did or did not form it all,
he verily knows it, or perhaps he knows it not" (Harrison 516). Edward Harrison articulates in his

The Myths of Creation
When the modern person ponders the formation of human beings, our mind automatically goes to
Adam and Eve, whom were the first man and woman created by God according to the Book of
Genesis. Before there was Adam and Eve, diverse cultures came up with myths about the
construction of humans. These myths included: "The Song of Creation" from the Rig Veda, An
African Creation Tale, From the Popol Vuh, and A Native American Creation Tale "How Man Was
Created" Each one of these legends gives a diverse perspective on the creation of human beings. A

They said he came from the beds of reeds from the ground and brought along the plants and animals
with him. An African Creation Tale suggests all living creatures came from the earth's bed. Their
culture seems to be naturalistic; they might have been farmers and herders because of their credence
in everything sprouting from the ground. Although both Native Americans and Africans conjectures
were relatively different, they did share one comparison. They both were monotheistic believing in
one higher power assisting in the birth of mankind. "Then the earth was created by them. So it was,
in truth, that they created the earth. Earth! ...they said, and instantly it was made." (From the Popol

Creator, the Maker, Tepeu, and Gucumatz whom were immortal, created the animals and the first

Origin Of Creation Myths
I have learned from the textbook that there are essentially two different ways that people have
sought to understand their origins. The first has to with storytelling in the creation (or origin) myths.
These myths are explanations of how a group of people decided their moral principles that allowed
them to establish a set of rules for their relationships with each other, nature, and the supernatural
world. The explanation of how these relationships worked and came to be further created distinct
cultural and societal structures that each member of that community would follow and share. One of
the creation myths I cam across while reading about Mesopotamia was that of the Babylonian
people who believed "that humankind had been created from the

Examples Of Creation Myths
What creation myth do you believe in? There are many different creation myths, each culture has
their own because they believe the world was created different. Even though cultures have different
myths some of them have something in common, which is a motif. The motifs that I think are the
most important are the following; Most myths start with chaos, Men are always created before
women, and Humans are made for organic material. Without these motifs the creation myths would
be silly and would not make sense.
Creation myths mostly start with Chaos:
In my opinion the most important motif of all, is how, mostly all creation myths start with chaos.

Men were always created first because they are stronger and can withstand more than women. When
the gods would make women they made them small and fragile, they were not meant to do hard
labor. Every culture used this motif so that means it must be important and a smart idea to use. The
main reason that women were made was to give the men company, be the men's mate, and take care
of the children. While the men were out all day working of finding food for the family, while his
wife would be inside watching the children and cleaning the house.
Humans were made out of organic materials:
Most men were made from organic materials because the gods wanted them to either be apart of
them or the earth. The cultures that used this motif were most likely people that loved the earth and
worshiped their god everyday. There are many cultures that use organic materials to make the
humans but some materials did not work like the gods were hoping for. For example in the Yoruba
creation myth the humans are made from clay, but while Obatala was making the people he was
drunk and made them all deformed and ugly. Obatala was a very nice god and did not kill them he
just made more people that were perfect. Another example is the Mayan creation myth, In the
beginning of the myth Tepeu and Gucumatz made animals and were disappointed because the
animals could not speak to say their names and praise them. Tepeu and Gucumatz decided to create

The passage from "Enuma Elish" reveals that water was a precious element to the Balbylonians; it
was difficult to find water because they lived in such dry and barren land. In Babylonian culture,
Titmat became the Earth, which literally made her, Mother Earth, therefore making the land and
agriculture important to the civilization. "The Creation of the Titans and Gods" shows that the
people of Greece were abundant in agriculture thanks to Zeus; although Mother Earth and Zeus are

Creation Myth Motifs
In a clear, concise, and well–organized essay, I will analyze the different motifs of the creation
myths process, struggle, and organic material. The definition of a motif is "something in literature
we notice repeated over and over again. I will include ample evidence to conclude the myths that
include these motifs, why they used them and how they used them. In the final analysis, I will
conclude why I envision the motifs: struggle, process, and organic material are the three most
important to me and why.
Motif #1: Struggle: The motif of struggle was a bloody struggle, or the struggle calm to create the
earth. I think the motif struggle is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rangi, the sky, and Papa, the Earth, were finally separated. They became the sky above and the
Earth below as we known them today. The blood from Rangi became the red of the sunset, the blood
from Papa became the red, clay land. At last, the light came into the world and the child moved to
the four corners. Tawhirimatea was very angry with what was done and the anger grew in him until
he couldn't bear it anymore. Therefore, he ripped out his eyes and threw them into the heavens, here
they turned into the first two stars. However, he turned his blind fury on all of his brothers. He blew
hurricanes, tornadoes, cyclones, he made tsunamis and huge storms. Tawhirimatea anger had no
end. Papa and Rangi were unhappy, they missed each other so much that they cried and cried and
cried. The tears from Rangi become rivers, oceans, and dew. Papa's sighing with loneliness is the
mists that rise from the ground. This is why the Maori creation myth had a bloody struggle.
The Rig Veda creation had a battle, a bloody struggle. Before there was anything there were the
primeval waters. The seas were vast, deep, and dark. All there was, was Non–Being. However, the
waters produced a single golden egg that floated over the waters for nine months. After these nine
months, the egg busted open and there was Prajapati standing on the shell. He was neither male or
female but was an all–powerful combination of both. For almost a year he rested there without

The Aztec Creation Myth
The creation myth of the Aztec religion is one that strikes me as somewhat moredrawn out of a
longer type of process than that of most other religions that we havelearned about. I have found that
there are a few different variations as could be the casewith some religions whereas a particular
group leaning more towards one set of beliefscan sometimes skew or evolve original learning. The
creation myth to the Aztecs iscontinuous story of creations and destructions called suns. The legend
that tells the storyis called the "Legend of the Fifth Sun". At the beginning of the world there was
onlydarkness before the first god Ometecuhtli who by the way was both good and bad, maleand
female created itself. Ometecuhtli gave birth to four other gods ... Show more content on

Even though in our society welook fond upon the death of an elder by taking solace in the fact that
they lived a long andfulfilling life the Aztecs took somewhat of an opposite stance. The individuals
who diedof old age were looked at as having avoided the risks that may lead to a premature
deathand were frowned upon(Saunders, Jen. "Death Beliefs & Rituals of the Aztec Culture. The
Classroom Synonym." The Classroom. Demand Media, n.d Web. 14 June 2015).These individuals
upon death were sent to the Aztec concept of Hades, known asMictlan(Cartwright, Mark." Aztec
Civilization." Ancient History Encyclopedia. N.p., 26Feb. 2014. Web. 14 June 2015). This was a
dark underworld ruled by a skeletal deathgod. The body would be cremated along with sometimes a
dog so the person would havea guide and companion in the underworld(Dockray, Hilary. "Ancient
Aztec Perspectiveon Death and Afterlife." The Christi Center. N.p., 11 Feb. 2013. Web. 14 June
2015.). On the flip side of this equation is the "Hero Death". This was reserved for warriorswho
were slain in battle and also those who willingly gave themselves up as humansacrifices. These
individuals were the noble ones who took the risk for the greater goodand didn't look back. I find in
intriguing that in the Aztec belief basically the deeds andactions of life carry little effect as long as
the end death was in a noble way. Theseindividuals received great glory and honor. The reward for

How Are Creation Myths Created
The world started with nothing but how did everything come to be? How did water come to be?
How were animals created? How were humans formed? Science may give us many answers but
some things are still missing. Creation myths help fill the hole that science has left us with and, it
gives us a good basis on how the earth was formed. All the creation myths explain the whereabouts
about the essentials of the earth and they tell a story that helps people comprehend the massive
undertaking that has taken place. The creation myths start at the beginning. For example in the
Aztecs believed that "In the beginning was the void. It was at some ancient time in the Aztec
creation story that the dual god, Ometecuhtli/Omecihuatl, created itself."(Aztec

In the tale, an old leader lived in Skyland, a land above the clouds over a body of water, with his

leader's wife dreamed that the mighty tree was toppled.
Many cultures have ideas on the creation of Earth. While each idea is different, they often involve
two mythical beings coming down from the heavens bringing the world into existence. The Iroquois
creation myth, "The World on the Turtle's Back" is a mythological story on the making of earth.
I was entertained reading this story as it was a new angle on the creation of man that I hadn't read
about before. The birds and the sea animals help her survive the fall and plant earth from the roots

The Three Creation Myths
Question One
The signs of miracles and or Magic discussed in the creation myths
Each of the creation myths reveals some form of supernatural power beyond human understanding.
One common magic that is common is creation from "nothing". It is believed that a supreme deity
who existed from the beginning of time solely participated in creation. With the emptiness that
existed, the Supreme Being creates through uttering words or body secretions
(Pinsent, 18). He then organizes the world into the form that it exists presently. It is also a common
belief that the supreme deity has power to give life to human through his breath. As much as he
could engage in physical creation, he also shared the life in them to humans. Certain creatures are

Sumerian myth describes how the gods created black headed people and provided conducive
environment for animals that encouraged procreation. Inupiat myth brings out the importance of the
condemnation of evil and pursuit for peace. It also reveals the value for humans by ensuring that
they get what they need for survival. Good conduct is also emphasized to ensure that peace and
order is maintained. Negritos myth brings out the ideas that creation took place through thoughts or
dreaming. It is believed that a divine couple, Pedn and Manoid existed in the sun that later created
the Earth. First, nature is valued as the source of the universe and all life forms. Relations are valued
as it is the source of human life (Powell, 34).
Question Three
Nature of cultures
The Sumerian culture portrays the importance of animals as compared to human beings.
This was evident when the gods failed to inform people of the impending floods (Pinsent, 21).
The Inupiat culture inculcates good human conduct among humans to ensure peace and
sustainability. Evils and evil spirits are greatly condemned as they disrupt peace and order in

Motifs In Creation Myths
Have you ever considered any of the creation myths other than the one of your religion? There are
thousands of creation myths on the earth now, but what about all of the creation myths which went
extinct with their people? Creation myths are fascinating and many of them have motifs, a repetitive
topic within creation myths. The three main motifs which interest me are the idea of humans made
of organic materials, the idea of humans being created last, and the idea of the flood. These motifs
seem to interest me most because they all seem off the wall and in some nature crazy; it really
makes me wonder how the people who created these creation myths adapted certain ideas.
The first creation myth of my interest is humans being made up of completely organic materials.
Humans in these creation myths are usually made up of clay, mud, plants, bones, corn, rocks, and
other organic materials. The Theogony, the Genesis, the Chinese creation myth, and the Yoruban
creation myth are similar because all of them have their people made out of clay or mud. In the
Elder Eddas people were created of trees, the Incan people of rocks, Mayan people of corn, Enuma
Elish people of bones, the Egyptian creation myth of Atum's tears, and the Inuit ... Show more

The flood occurs in many creation myths such as the Theogony, Genesis, Yoruba Creation, Mayan
Creation, and Popol Vhu. With the floods which occur, there are only a few survivors and the
survivors build a boat. In Popol Vhu, the flood occurs to wipe out all of the incompetent people who
were created to worship the gods and were notweren't properly doing so; the incompetent people
then become monkeys so the new people see what they should notshouldn't be like. In the Yoruba
creation, there is a flood caused by Olokun because he was not included in the process of humans
and actually didn't know the humans were being created; he then wiped these humans out with the

Mayan Creation Myths
Different cultures have different beliefs and values. In this paper, I will speak about two different
cultures and their creation myths. There are different myths floating around within each culture that
explain the creation of human, earth and animals. The two I have chosen is The Old Testament
Creation and The Mayans Creation. The Old Testament Creation is very common amongst
individuals today. This Creation involves Adam and Eve. The Mayans creation went through a series
of changes until the right humans were formed.
The Old Testament creation combines ex nihilo and deus faber motifs. God created the heavens and
the earth. It took God seven days to complete his creation. Day one, God separated light from
darkness. He called this day and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These myths shape the way people live their lives. The main purpose of creation myths in a culture
is to explain rituals, customs in beliefs. There are things that we may not be able to understand or
explain. Creation myths explains how humans were created, why we are imperfect, why we die,
why there is suffering and where we go when we die ("Creation Myth Gantjes", 2004). If you take
the time and look at how religions are linked to the history of creation myths, you'll see how it
shapes the way we view cultures. The Old Testament creation stated that Eve and Adam disobeyed
Gods command. The result from Adam being disobedient, he would have to work hard and suffer to
survive. Eve had to endure the pain of carrying a child and serve her husband. In Christianity today,
this is the result of men and women. We as women endure pain when carrying a child. Men have to

What Is A Creation Myth
There are three specific characteristics to look for when deciding if a story is a creation myth or not.
To be considered a creation myth a story must describe how the universe, earth and life began.
Explain the workings of the natural world and support and validate social customs as well as values.
"How the World Was Made" is a creation myth because it describes how the world began, explains
the workings of the natural world and supports social customs.
"How the World Was Made" states that the world began when the water–beetle came to the surface
with mud and it began to spread on every side until it became the island which we all call earth. The
mountains and valleys were made by Great Buzzard. "When he grew tired of flying is wings began

A myth is a story passed down from generation to generation that usually explains natural or social
occurrences. A creation myth differs from a myth because they explain how the world came to be, or
they give people a way of life. "Death, and Life and Death" covers the origin of death, life, and all
the different races of the world, therefore making it a creation myth.
Matter or light did not exist in the beginning. Only Death, whose name is Sa, and his wife and only
daughter existed. Due to needing a place for his family to live, Sa created a giant sea of mud. A few
years later a god named Alatangana came to visit and was disgusted by the filth in which Sa and his

Motifs In Creation Myths
In my opinion, 3 of the most common motifs in creation myths are: the creation of humans, step –
by – step myths, and using parts of a god for a planet. I think these are the few motifs are usually
used the most in the different cultures. Although, these cultures did not know each other or "talk"
they are still connected by these motifs, along with other things. The creation myths may share some
of the same principles and concepts, but there is also more that they share. These next few
paragraphs will explain why I think that these motifs were used. I will also explain what I think the
most used motifs are, and the cultures that used them.

The Chinese creation myth starts out with an enormous egg containing chaos. The chaos had raged
on the inside of the egg. Yin and Yang, which were swirled together, along with all the other
opposites. Then, the egg burst open and Pan–gu jumped out. After coming out of the egg, he then
separated yin and yang and began forming the earth. For about 10,000 years, Pangu grew 10 feet
every day, until the sky came to the point where it was 30,000 miles above ground. When Pan–gu
had stopped growing, he then began to hammer out the mountains. Pan–gu filled the valley with
water to form the great oceans. He made/created the rivers with his fingers, and he stomped the
Earth and dirt down to create flat land. He had gathered light and, tossed it into the sky so that it
could become the stars. After all of this, Pan–gu had grown old and tired (This was about 18,000
years after), he made the world with his hands; along with forming the basic principles of yin and
yang. Pan–gu decided to lay down, but once he laid down, he never rose again. When Pan–gu died,
his body formed the tallest mountains, his skull had formed the sky, his hair the flowers and plants,
his bones turn to jade and pearls, his arms and his legs were the four directions. After this, his blood

Myths on Cosmic Creation
Every person in America has a myth or conviction of truth as to how creation was formed and
human beings came into existence. The following are inclusive in creation myths, the first is the
Zulu myth found in the continent of Africa, and the other is the myth of Norse originating from
Europe. Both myths give a reason as to how creation was formed on earth. Though there are endless
amounts of ideas and vast amounts of myths to explore, the focus of these two particular myths
brings fascination to a social phenomenon.
The cycle of creation in the Zulu myth is as follows in the in–text citation ("Zulu Creation", 2011):
Darkness was in the beginning accompanied by a large seed. The seed fell from heaven and the seed
produced reeds that grew called Uthlanga. One seed in particular grew into a man and his named
Unkulunkulu. He grew so large and heavy that he broke off and fell to earth. As he fell, he walked
earth with a purpose to grow other seeds into male and female. Outside of humans, Unkulunkulu
created animals, mountains, lakes, and the sun and moon. He taught female and male how to survive
by imparting agriculture to grow things, how to hunt, and make fire. Unkulunkulu sent a chameleon
into the world with the message that his people will live forever. As this animal took too long, his
impatience grew and a lizard sent out a message of death completing the circle of birth to death.

Similarities In Creation Myths
Even though these creation myths all stem from different continents, they share many similarities.
One big similarity is that all of the creators are male or appear masculine. This reflects on what
worldwide culture was like for a long time because it shows that all of the ancient people believed
men were more likely to have supreme powers. Another common theme was that creation wasn't
instant; it took time, and it was also very neat and orderly for all 4 groups. This shows that they all
believed creation to be very important because if creation was messy or chaotic it would've shown
they didn't care as much about it. Finally, the way the first man came to be is very similar in all four
stories. He is always created by either the creator or

The Origins Of Creation Myths
Myth is often falsely misunderstood as fake; however, when using myth in a religious studies
atmosphere, it takes on a new meaning. Myths are stories created by a group of people which
believe the stories are true. These stories are understood to be "narratives concerning sacred reality
and its relationship to humanity" (Cunningham and Kelsay 59). There are many types of myths
which groups of people create; for example, how humans, religious figures, and Earth came to be.
Many myths focus on creation of someone or something because humans have many questions
about how things on Earth originated. We did not know a lot about origination at first when the
human population developed because we were not around for Earth's creation. "Creation myth ...

Just a single person creating and believing in these stories is not enough to make them a myth. A
myth must be believed in as one hundred percent true by many people. This group of people use this
myth to explain the relationship between themselves and the sacred. For example, "God said, 'Let us
make humankind in our image, according to our likeness" (Genesis 1: 26). This shows how people
relate themselves to God and it puts things into perspective. God created humankind to be capable
of things as great as the things he does, within limitation of course. It demonstrates a sense of power
and good intentions which shape the reality of those who believe in the myth. "It is worth noting that
a myth, rather than being a harmless story, is a powerful vehicle for life and action" (Cunningham
and Kelsay 61). Myths help these groups of people live their lives a certain way and take certain
actions. For example, Genesis helps people who believe its story act with great intentions and
concern for all living things because this is what God wanted for humankind. He wanted people to
care about other living things and make good choices in life as a sign of gratitude for their very
existence and capability to make these

Seneca Creation Myths
Humans have an innate need to understand how the world began and how they fit into the cosmic
pattern. Creation myths provide many of these answers and serve to establish a foundation upon
which a people can develop their world according to their expectations. For the Seneca, the genesis
of their existence started on a utopian world in the sky. The sky world is part of the Seneca's unseen
world. An argument could be made for its strong correlation to the concept of heaven found in many
religions. The sky world, similar to the Christian Garden of Eden, contained a powerful tree of life
which sustained a world teeming with life including beings. One day, the tree was uprooted and

she was transitioning between an unseen world and what would become the Earth, she, all the birds
and animals that aided her upon her arrival and helped create the land, and her subsequent family
members remained in the unseen world and became architects of the seen world. Eventually, the
woman gave birth to a daughter who, as a grown woman, became pregnant with twin boys after
entering the water. The boys were at odds even before their births and indeed the manner of their
births would cement their destinies. The first twin arrived in the traditional manner, but his impatient
brother tore his way out of his mother's side which resulted in her death. Her burial, though, was the
fodder for nourishing plants for the soon to be created humans of the seen world. Appropriately, the

All things have been created and have a beginning. The world being the largest creation in recorded

well as a large similarity that creates a large connection. The creation myths of the Japanese,
Australian, Christianity and Greek cultures all have their own individual understanding that makes a

Korean Creation Myth
Cheonjiwang Bonpuli
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Cheonjiwang Bonpuli (Hangul: 천지왕 본풀이, literally 'Chronicles of Cheonjiwang') is a
Korean creation myth, traditionally retold by shamans in the small island ofJeju Island. It is one of
the best–known Creation myths in the Korean peninsula, and many key elements in the
Cheonjiwang Bonpuli can be found in the creation myths of the mainland.[1]
Plot[edit]
Unlike its title, the supreme deity Cheonjiwang (Hangul: 천지왕), whose name literally means
'King of the Heavens and the Earth', serves mainly as a secondary character. The protagonists of the
myth are instead the two sons of Cheonjiwang, Daebyeol and Sobyeol.

ordered a slave to ease his pain by decapitating him. The surprised Cheonjiwang murmured
"Amazing." and took the iron ring off Sumyeong Jangja's head. He then continued on his way.
Cheonjiwang did not return to the sky immediately, but spent the night in Baekju Halmeom (literally
'Grandmother Baekju')'s cottage. The bright–eared Cheonjiwang heard someone brushing her hair
with a jade comb in the next room, and asked Baekju Halmeom who she was. Baekju Halmeom
answered that it was her only daughter, Chongmyeong Agi. (Hangul: 총명아기, literally 'Wise
Girl').
Chongmyeong Agi was fairer than the Seonnyeo, the heavenly fairies. Cheonjiwang asked both
Chongmyeong Agi and Baekju Halmeom if he could have sexual intercourse with Chongmyeong
Agi, and both decided to accept. Thus, that night, Chongmyeong Agi became Chongmyeong Buin
(Hangul: 총명부인, literally 'Wise Wife'), as she had experienced love.
Cheonjiwang stayed with his new wife for four days, then left. He gave Chongmyeong Buin two
gourd seeds, and advised her to name their children Daebyeol (Hangul: 대별, literally 'Large Star')
and Sobyeol (Hangul: 소별, literally 'Small Star').

In the Heliopolis version of the creation myth in Ancient Egypt, this water is represented by the god
of Nun (Brown 2006). His name meaning "primeval waters," he was the father of the sun god, Re,
through which Re used his waters to start creating the world. These waters weren't just the waters
present on earth, but instead, it was believed that a primeval ocean surrounded the universe, through
which the sun rose from each day. Given the Nile River and the flooding that often occurred, water
played an extremely important role in Ancient Egypt. In Enuma Elish, the idea of a primeval water
is also present, this time in the form of the gods of Tiamat and Apsu (Brown 2006). Tiamat, the
primordial goddess of the ocean, took on Apsu as her mate, who himself was the god of fresh water.
After they mated, silt was created, just as it does when fresh water moves into salt water. From this
silt came the formation of the physical elements of the universe. Next, in Genesis, this idea of water
being one of the first elements present is also evident. In Genesis 1:2, it is stated that "the earth was
a formless void and darkness covered the face of the deep, while a wind from God swept over the
face of the waters (Holland 2005)." Furthermore, in Genesis 1:6, it states that "God said, let there be

The Myth Of The Indian Creation Myth
There are many creation myths that have been told for hundreds of years that have served as an
explanation for how the world works. Each culture has a creation myth that is unique to them. India,
for example, has a creation myth that has been told for hundreds of years, and by examining the
myth, it is possible to understand what their culture values. The Indian creation myth is one of the
Puranas, or religious texts, within the Veda. According to Barry B. Powell, this myth may have been
told around A.D. 500 and was either written in a book or was passed down orally from generation to
generation (Powell 229). Now, there are print versions of the text, and there are people who tell of
this story orally. Who the very first person was to tell the myth or write it down is unknown, but this
myth has been read and told by people of India who believe in the religious texts, which is the
myth's intended audience. The reason why this myth was told was to inspire the people of India
"directly with models for behavior and explanations for the way the world is" (Powell 223), and that
is also a reason why this myth is still told even today. This myth involves the ideas of light versus
darkness, or good versus evil, along with the idea of destruction and rebirth as well as karma that
Hinduism is known for.
The story begins with Brahma, the god who creates the world. From him, the gods, demons,
ancestors, and humans were created. Demons were the first beings to be created because Brahma

The First Creation Myth Is The Hindu Version Of Creation

  • 1. The First Creation Myth Is The Hindu Version Of Creation The first creation myth is the Hindu version of creation, and it is about the sacrifice of the Man (Purusha), the man with a thousand heads, eyes, and feet. The Man himself is all this, whatever has been and whatever is to be and he is the creator and the one creation comes from. He is sacrificed by the gods and his body makes up the earth. The Man's mouth was the brahmin, his arms were made into the nobles, his two thighs were the populace, and from his feet the servants were born. The moon was born from his mind; the sun was born from his eye. After, his mouth came Indra (4) and Agni, and from his vital breath the wind (Vyu) was born. Then his navel the atmosphere was born; from his head the heaven emerged. From his two feet came the earth, and the expanses of the sky from his ear. The second creation story is the story from the Bible, which is Christians version of creation. On the first day God (the creator) created light, the second day God created waters, the atmospheric water and the oceanic water. On the third day God created dry land and vegetation, and on the forth day he created the sun and the moon and the stars and planets. On the fifth day God created water creatures and birds, and on the sixth day he created land animals and man. God creates all this out of nothing and it takes him six days. He creates all this for the man to rule over and to multiply and for men to in turn praise him. The third creation myth is from the Huainanzi and it tells of the great ... • 3. Essay On Creation Myths Creation Myths My mythology class has been reading and learning about most of the creation myths. A creation myth is how the earth began and how humans first came to inhabit it. Also, we have reviewed the motifs of the myths. A motif is like a pattern of the similar situations happening throughout the myths. The three motifs I thought that were the most common were that most had a single creator, people were created from organic material, and the battles that went on between most of the gods. Most myths had a single creator In my opinion I think that if there were more than two creators then that would be too much power. A creator is the one that puts the earth together and forms the first humans on earth. Quite a few creation myth stories had only one god that created everything. For example, the Babylonian had one creator which was Marduk, the Hindu had one creator which was Prajapati, the Inuit had a single creator which was Raven, the Chinese said there was only one and his name was Pan ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some of the battles were bigger than others but I thought that the battles were important to use as a motif. In the Hindu creation there was a disagreement of the choices Prajapati was making with his daughter. The other gods got very angry with Prajapati. For revenge the gods created a monster named Rudra, and it haunted Prajapati. Once the monstrous creature found him, he shot him with an arrow and killed him. In the Norse creation Odin was the god that created the humans, but the gods did not accept how he was making them. Ymir's sisters especially did not agree with Odin's idea so they planned to get revenge on Odin. The sisters gathered at the foot of the Yggdrasil and carved lines into it, the lines represented human lives and the twist and turns that humans go through. Humans would never be as powerful, not even Odin could fix the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Creation Motifs In Creation Myths Creation Motifs In my opinion, 3 of the most common motifs in creation myths are The creation of humans, Step – by – Step myths, and Parts of a god for a planet. These motifs are used in most of cultures. Though these cultures did not know each other or "talk", they are still connected by these motifs. Some of the creation myths share these ideas, but they also share more. The creation of humans In certain creation myths, the creation of humans was difficult. In some of these myths, humans were created more than once. In these next few paragraphs, the myths that had humans created more than once will be explained. I think these of cultures incorporated this into their myths because most humans aren't perfect, and people in these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the Mayan creation myth, animals were first created, they couldn't speak or do anything. So, Men were made from clay. When the creators gave the humans life, they immediately crumpled. The creator then carved the humans from wood. The wood creatures had no minds and no heart. So the gods had to send a flood to destroy the humans. Then the creator tried white corn to make the humans. They succeeded and the Mayan gods were happy with them. Even though the Greek, Genesis, and the Mayan creation of humans are similar, there is one more that hasn't been mentioned yet, and that is Yoruba. The Yoruban creation is a bit different from the others, but also very similar. Obatala got bored of being on the Earth alone, so he began shaping clay figures. He was drinking 'palm wine' while doing so. He asked Olorun to breathe life into the people. All the people were deformed because he was drunk while making them. Obatala then vowed to never drink again, and he started working on new humans. After having Olorun breathe life into them, they immediately started building houses and cities. Step – by – Step Myth There are many myths that have a step – by – step creation of the world, but only a few will be discussed. These are the same cultural myths from motif 1 because they are very similar in many ways. I think that so many of the cultures incorporated this into their creation to show that not everything can be done outright. It's a big job ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Creation Myth Essay Myth still remains one of the major links that merges the different cultures and religions from various ethnicities. "The Creation of the Titans and the Gods", as well as "The Creation, Death, and Rebirth of the Universe", are among the many creation myths that highlight these combinations. Throughout history, myths have created various similarities and differences between the cultures and religions of the world. Man – the common principle in myths, illustrates that man was produced exclusively for the pleasure of the Gods. Since the dawn of civilization the existence of myths had been recorded and narrated in order to praise the Gods that had blessed them with life. • 9. Creation Myth, Myths And Beliefs Of Creation Traditions All throughout ancient cultures, there are stories, legends, and myths. Many of these cultures share similarities within their origin explanations. The recurrences of these stories are called motifs. From great floods to benevolent creators, all creation myths share similarities within at least one other myth, whether it be Babylonian,Christian, Greek, or Cheyenne. There can always be a motif found in any creation myth; the most popular of which include man being created from organic materials, the creator breathing life into the creation(man), and the earth and sky forming from the body of the creator(s). Man being created from organic materials One of the most commonly known creation myths is about the Christian/Hebrew creation of man. In this myth, the first man is made from organic materials and the first woman is made from a rib taken from the first man. Ancient cultures realized that they were made from the same things as the environment around them, so it would only make sense for their creation myth to involve man being made from all sorts of organic materials. This inclusion of this motif shows that ancient cultures had at least a basic understanding of the elements and what makes up everything on the earth. In the Cheyenne creation myth, Maheo also uses one of his ribs to create the first human. Humans are respectively made from dirt clods, rocks, clay, demon bones, trees, mud, stone, white corn, pea pods, and tears throughout various creation myths. Every ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Creation Myths A creation story or myth is usually one that aims to dictate how the world was created. Though these stories vary among cultures, religions, and nations, some are more popular than others. In Hinduism, for instance, creation stems from the creator, called Brahma. However, the creator is portrayed in various forms and Brahma has become less important than the other two members of the Hindu trinity, Shiva and Vishnu (Leeming 35). It is believed that Brahma creates the world from various forms of himself. This is essentially the ideality that Hindu's idea of creation portrays different Gods/ avatars, correctly known as deities. • 13. Comparing The Song Of Creation And The Babylonian Creation... Creation Myth Paper In this creation myth paper, one can will be comparing "The Song of Creation" from the Rig Veda on page 15 in Fiero's The Humanistic Tradition, Book 1, with "The Babylonian Creation" myth on page 19 to 20 in Fiero's The Humanistic Tradition, Book 1. "The Song of Creation" from the Rig Veda on page 15 originates from India. Meanwhile "The Babylonian Creation" myth on page 19 to 20 originated from Babylon. The main differences between these two creation myths is that the first creation myth is based on the importance of water as the necessary requirement for the beginning of life. For example, in the Rig Veda, the creation of the world was stated to come from a "watery darkness" (Fiero 15). Meanwhile the second myth is more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The primary source narrates about how back then before the universe was created, there was no existence, no death or immortality (Fiero 15). It also raises questions about the creation of the universe such as "What covered it? Where was it? In whose keeping?" (Fiero 15). These shows the uncertainty of how the universe came to be. Meanwhile in "The Babylonian Creation" myth, it narrates or tells the story about not only how the universe was created, but also how the gods entered the world, how the earth came to be, as well as the creation of Babylon and humans (Fiero 19). In the first myth, the universe was created when "That One which came to be enclosed in nothing, arose at last, born of the power of heat" (Fiero 15). In my opinion, one canthink that back in the time, the people who created this myth believed in a geocentric view of the universe where Earth was in the center. And that "that One" came to be the sun which gave light to the world and allowed the prospering of plants and life. Some imagery found in this primary source were "darkness wrapped in darkness", "only illumined water" "cosmic waters, in depths unfathomed," (Fiero 15). These forms of imagery depicts or describes what the universe was like before the "that One" arose. The order of creation in this myth seems to be that of "the One" being in the empty universe before anything else and then when "that One" arose, he or she brought heat as well as light in the world which most likely led to the beginning of light in the world leading to life. In this creation myth, one can feel like "the One" is the universe or the creation because according to lines 23, it states "The gods themselves are later than creation" (Fiero 15). So one can feel like the universe created the gods not the other way around. In the text, life began with the arrival ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Creation Myths Creation myths are the most common form of mythology throughout most of the ancient cultures of the world and evolved from first an oral history passed on to the next generation ending with multiple versions. Mythologists have categorized these mythologies from the various and numerous ancient cultures into five types, which include Ex Nihilo, Creation from Chaos, World Parent, Emergence and Earth–Diver. The creation myth Ex Nihilo, which means "out of nothing" explains how the world along with mankind were created by a creators speech, during a dream, wheb they gave the breath of live or their just their thoughts. The Avesta tells how their supreme god named Ahura Mazda, also know as Ormazd, creates the Earth, trees, plants, animals and mankind in the course of six periods with each period lasting 3,000 years. In the beginning, nothing else existed except for Ahura Mazda who lives in Endless Light. Most of the modern biblical scholars believe that there are clearly two versions of the creation story that exist in the chapters of Genesis 1 through 3 in the Old Testament. These versions appear to come from three different authors or groups of authors called the Jahwist source, the Priestly sources and the Redactor source. Written by the Priestly source, around 450BC, the first version begins in Genesis 1:1–31 and ends in Genesis 2:1–3. Next, the Jahwist source writes the second version in Genesis 2:4–25, around 950BC, with additional verses written, around 750 to 400BC, by the Redactor source. With all of these dates in mind, it would then appear that the first version in Genesis 1 was written at a later date than Genesis 2 resulting with the version from Genesis 2 being the first version. Also, notice the differences between the 2 versions such as in Genesis 1 where the focus is on the entire universe, whereas, in Genesis 2 the focus is on the creation of man and his environment. ... • 17. Creation Myth Throughout our lives, we have heard many stories about the creation of earth and humans. Whether they are religious based, myths, folk tales, or stories passed on through generations; they all have a common purpose which is to explain how everything came to be. In the myth, The Creation of the Universe and Human Beings, the creation of earth is explained through two gods that essentially "fashioned" heaven and earth, as well as a goddess named Nu Kua that created human beings. Throughout this story there is a common theme of creation, and the explaining of how earth and human beings were created. Although this is a Chinese culture based myth, it still holds many similarities and relevance to our world today. We all have our own idea or belief ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This mountain stood tall and proud and it reached all the way into the heavens. At the very top of this mountain lived a pair of every kind of animal. In the center of this heaven grew a tree. This tree was not just any tree, it was the sacred tree of life, and it was not to be harmed in any way. Among the diverse group of animals was a pair of giraffes. The female giraffe had grown tired of eating the same old leaves and fruits. Being strong–willed and stubborn she decided that she just had to try a fruit from the sacred tree. • 21. Similarities Of Creation Myths Creation myths are stories describing or explaining the creation of the world. Each culture has their own creation myth and how they believe it all went about. However, there are many similarities within the different cultures creation myths that I looked at. These similarities are called motifs. Motifs are patterns you recognize within an idea. In my opinion, three of the most common creation myth motifs are; humans being created from organic materials, having one creator and no shared power, and the purpose for humans on the earth. Humans being created from organic materials Looking back at all the creation myths I read about and researched, I believe this is the most common motif. In my opinion, many cultures had to use organic materials to create humans because there was just simply nothing else. There either was a god or goddess, and an earth. The creators did not have much to work with and it took multiple tries most of the time, but each culture did find a way to create some type of human being. The Greeks did not give too much information on to why or how they made this happen, but we do know humans originally came from dirt. The Hebrews and Christians started creating humans from dust, clay, and dirt. God first used these organic materials to create Adam. The Babylonians used demons bones from the dead. The Norse first used mud to create humans and they created 2 genders, male and female. The Chinese also used mud, however a goddess created the first Chinese ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 23. Creation Thethology : The Beliefs Of The Norse Creation Myth Norse creation mythology is full of dark chaos, murder and transition. The Norse creation myth also known as cosmogony is considered one of the best accounts of such literature in the world. Initially, there was only a gaping abyss which was known as Ginnungagap with no soil or sky. There were two homelands, and one of them was known as Niflheim which was full of elemental ice while the other was known as Muspelheim which was the land of elemental life. Fire flames from Muspelheim blew towards Ginnungagap where it met ice from Niflheim making the frost melt form drops. The drops formed were named Ymir which was one of the giants considered as gods. Ymir could reproduce since it was a hermaphrodite and could asexually reproduce creating more giants (McCoy, Daniel). Through this process, the first woman and man were created named Embla and Ask who were formed from tree trunks. The two created a fence name Midgard to keep them away from the other giants who could harm them (Lindow, John). From the myth, there are three conceptual meanings embedded in it. One of them is that creation cannot take place in a vacuum. It can be noted that life depends on what has already died which is a principle noted when human beings eat (Lindow, John). It is one of the fundamental principles in life where you have to give so that you can get and this principle is featured in the Norse creation myth. Contrary to popular belief, the purpose of the creation myths is much greater than a primitive attempt to explain the mysteries of creation. Behind each creation myth is a vast variety of symbolism along with a number of motives which are often shared between cultures, despite vast geographical differences. My intention here is not only to discuss the purpose of the creation myths, but also to compare and contrast common themes which can be found in three selected works. We now see these theories as inaccurate, due to the fact that they have been replaced by newer scientific models. In a modern light, it can be stated that creation myths describe not the origin of our cosmos but rather these myths allow us to gain a broader understanding of ancient theories and beliefs. During the time of their invention however, these myths were precisely an honest interpretation of the outer world, and therefore they served the exact purpose which is stated in their title, to explain the process of creation. A technique that is used in many creation myths can be referred to as "creation from above." In this method of narration, the creator often creates a replica of earth within the heavens, and somehow recreates this image in the abyss below. An example of this can originally be found in Kund Rasmussen's collection of Eskimo myths. In this story a being called Tulungersaq, or Father Raven is born in the heavens. He initially takes the form of a human being and is entirely unaware of how he came into existence. He is in complete darkness and it is through his sense of touch that he becomes aware of his surroundings. Through his exploration, he discovers a sparrow, and realizes that this is the only form of life that had been in existence before him. He goes on to bury something beneath the earth and soon after he discovers that the earth is no longer sterile, it is now covered in bushes and grass. Tulungersaq is still ... Creation myths vary among all cultures; however, they all have one thing in common; heaven and earth. One of the most popular creation myths was the Iroquois creation myth. The Iroquois or Haudenosaunee meaning "People of the Longhouse" (Iroquois Indian Museum, n.d.) consists of six Indian nations that include the Mohawk, Oneida, Onondaga, Cayuga, Seneca, and Tuscarora tribes. He flung her head into the night sky and threw her body into the ocean, resulting in the Sky Woman becoming Grandmother moon. Interpretation The story of the Sky Woman, her daughter and twin grandsons depicts the beginning of the world and creates the belief that everyone is born with good and evil in them. The significance of nature influences how the Native Americans belief that nature, animals, and humans are equal counterparts. If it had not been for the help of the animals, Sky Woman would have died and the creation of earth would not exist. The twins play a significant role among the Iroquois that the good and evil are necessary for the world to be in balance. The belief that Sky Woman is the leader of all female life who "controls the rise and fall of the waters and a companion to the stars" (Olan, n.d.) and "regulates the monthly cycles of all females in which guarantees new life will be born" (Olan, n.d.). The myth signifies the Native American belief of how the creation and reincarnation of humans connects to the rise and fall of the sun and moon. The Iroquois Creation Myth is a detailed and complex myth that has many different versions. Cosmology is defined as being all of the assumptions we make about how the universe is arranged. Modern society has developed possible assumptions in regards as to how the universe came to be and in similar so did ancient cultures. These myths have an immense influence on people's framework of reference. The Myths of Creation When the modern person ponders the formation of human beings, our mind automatically goes to Adam and Eve, whom were the first man and woman created by God according to the Book of Genesis. Before there was Adam and Eve, diverse cultures came up with myths about the construction of humans. These myths included: "The Song of Creation" from the Rig Veda, An African Creation Tale, From the Popol Vuh, and A Native American Creation Tale "How Man Was Created" Each one of these legends gives a diverse perspective on the creation of human beings. The Africans believed that Unkulunkulu was the earliest man to subsist. They said he came from the beds of reeds from the ground and brought along the plants and animals with him. An African Creation Tale suggests all living creatures came from the earth's bed. Their culture seems to be naturalistic; they might have been farmers and herders because of their credence in everything sprouting from the ground. Although both Native Americans and Africans conjectures were relatively different, they did share one comparison. They both were monotheistic believing in one higher power assisting in the birth of mankind. "Then the earth was created by them. So it was, in truth, that they created the earth. Earth! ...they said, and instantly it was made." (From the Popol Vuh pg.14) This presumption of creation came from the Mayans. They believed the forefathers the Creator, the Maker, Tepeu, and Gucumatz whom were immortal, created the animals and the first man. They thought that there was only a sky and a sea before the earth came about. "There was nothing standing; only the calm water, the placid sea, alone and tranquil. Nothing existed." While the men were out all day working of finding food for the family, while his wife would be inside watching the children and cleaning the house. Humans were made out of organic materials: Most men were made from organic materials because the gods wanted them to either be apart of them or the earth. The cultures that used this motif were most likely people that loved the earth and worshiped their god everyday. There are many cultures that use organic materials to make the humans but some materials did not work like the gods were hoping for. These motifs seem to interest me most because they all seem off the wall and in some nature crazy; it really makes me wonder how the people who created these creation myths adapted certain ideas. The first creation myth of my interest is humans being made up of completely organic materials. Humans in these creation myths are usually made up of clay, mud, plants, bones, corn, rocks, and other organic materials. Outside of humans, Unkulunkulu created animals, mountains, lakes, and the sun and moon. He taught female and male how to survive by imparting agriculture to grow things, how to hunt, and make fire. Unkulunkulu sent a chameleon into the world with the message that his people will live forever. God created humankind to be capable of things as great as the things he does, within limitation of course. It demonstrates a sense of power and good intentions which shape the reality of those who believe in the myth. "It is worth noting that a myth, rather than being a harmless story, is a powerful vehicle for life and action" (Cunningham and Kelsay 61). Myths help these groups of people live their lives a certain way and take certain actions. For example, Genesis helps people who believe its story act with great intentions and concern for all living things because this is what God wanted for humankind. He wanted people to care about other living things and make good choices in life as a sign of gratitude for their very existence and capability to make these ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 67. Seneca Creation Myths Humans have an innate need to understand how the world began and how they fit into the cosmic pattern. Creation myths provide many of these answers and serve to establish a foundation upon which a people can develop their world according to their expectations. For the Seneca, the genesis of their existence started on a utopian world in the sky. The sky world is part of the Seneca's unseen world. An argument could be made for its strong correlation to the concept of heaven found in many religions. The sky world, similar to the Christian Garden of Eden, contained a powerful tree of life which sustained a world teeming with life including beings. One day, the tree was uprooted and pushed through a hole in the sky in order to create a new world ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She was also pushed into the hole so that she could populate the watery world below. Even though she was transitioning between an unseen world and what would become the Earth, she, all the birds and animals that aided her upon her arrival and helped create the land, and her subsequent family members remained in the unseen world and became architects of the seen world. Eventually, the woman gave birth to a daughter who, as a grown woman, became pregnant with twin boys after entering the water. The boys were at odds even before their births and indeed the manner of their births would cement their destinies. The first twin arrived in the traditional manner, but his impatient brother tore his way out of his mother's side which resulted in her death. Her burial, though, was the fodder for nourishing plants for the soon to be created humans of the seen world. Appropriately, the first twin was named Good Spirit while his brother was called Bad Spirit. Good Spirit created humans and everything they would need to survive and live in comfort. Bad Spirit looked for ways to thwart his brother and to espcecially cause strife for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There are many different theories of how the world was created, many different cultures have their own "creation myth". These creation myths all have an obvious contrast between them, as well as a large similarity that creates a large connection. The creation myths of the Japanese, Australian, Christianity and Greek cultures all have their own individual understanding that makes a miraculous story of how all things present this day came to be. Before things exist there is nothing. Just a vast void with no real shape or form leaving the universe blank with no real meaning. The Japanese creation myth quotes "all was chaos, without any ... Inferring that the "creator" creates a small number of the species to then breed on and create a world full of that species. In the Christianity myth God creates only two humans (Adam and Eve) who are responsible for reproducing and their offspring repeating the cycle. The Christianity myth is similar to the Japanese where there were two deities who reproduced and their offspring breed on. In contrast to the Greek myths who had a variety of gods who were believed to have made man out of clay and Athena breathed life into them. • 71. Creation Myths Civilisations use sacred origin stories to offer descriptions on God, identity, meaning and the purpose of life. In many cultures these stories are referred to as creation myths. Bernard Doyle further explains, "Creation myths are amongst mankind's earliest attempts to explain some of the most profound questions about the nature and origin of the universe". In particular when focussing on the Upper Kingdom ancient Egyptian written and visual creation story, the significance of culture and religion is dominant. This text teaches contemporary Australians about the diversity of creation beliefs in religion. These writing styles were picked up by the population and hieroglyphics again just became a culture practice of the past. This shift was important step away from traditional mythology, which was used as a part of creation stories. • 73. Korean Creation Myth Cheonjiwang Bonpuli From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia The Cheonjiwang Bonpuli (Hangul: 천지왕 본풀이, literally 'Chronicles of Cheonjiwang') is a Korean creation myth, traditionally retold by shamans in the small island ofJeju Island. It is one of the best–known Creation myths in the Korean peninsula, and many key elements in the Cheonjiwang Bonpuli can be found in the creation myths of the mainland.[1] Plot[edit] Unlike its title, the supreme deity Cheonjiwang (Hangul: 천지왕), whose name literally means 'King of the Heavens and the Earth', serves mainly as a secondary character. The protagonists of the myth are instead the two sons of Cheonjiwang, Daebyeol and Sobyeol. The myth starts with the creation of the world, when the sky and the ... Cheonjiwang put an iron ring on Sumyeong Jangja's head (For similar concepts, see Journey to the West), and Sumyeong Jangja experienced extreme pain, as if his head was exploding. Whatever he did, the iron ring did not get off Sumyeong Jangja's head. Finally, in despair, Sumyeong Jangja ordered a slave to ease his pain by decapitating him. The surprised Cheonjiwang murmured "Amazing." and took the iron ring off Sumyeong Jangja's head. He then continued on his way. Cheonjiwang did not return to the sky immediately, but spent the night in Baekju Halmeom (literally 'Grandmother Baekju')'s cottage. The bright–eared Cheonjiwang heard someone brushing her hair with a jade comb in the next room, and asked Baekju Halmeom who she was. Baekju Halmeom answered that it was her only daughter, Chongmyeong Agi. (Hangul: 총명아기, literally 'Wise Girl'). Chongmyeong Agi was fairer than the Seonnyeo, the heavenly fairies. Cheonjiwang asked both Chongmyeong Agi and Baekju Halmeom if he could have sexual intercourse with Chongmyeong Agi, and both decided to accept. Thus, that night, Chongmyeong Agi became Chongmyeong Buin (Hangul: 총명부인, literally 'Wise Wife'), as she had experienced love. Cheonjiwang stayed with his new wife for four days, then left. He gave Chongmyeong Buin two gourd seeds, and advised her to name their children Daebyeol (Hangul: 대별, literally 'Large Star') and Sobyeol (Hangul: 소별, literally 'Small Star'). ... Egyptian Creation Myth As more and more ancient Near East literature becomes discovered and gains popularity, so too does their creation myths and how they compare to the creation myths from many of the widely practiced religions of today. Two such Near East religious traditions are that of the Mesopotamian tradition and the Egyptian tradition. An examination of each one and how they compare to the Bible–Canaan tradition will elucidate upon the fact that there are a large number of similarities that exist between all three of the aforementioned traditions in terms of their creation myths. One of the first binding aspects of all three religions are that, from a geographical perspective, they are all related. Given the fact that the Bible–Canaan tradition came out ... His name meaning "primeval waters," he was the father of the sun god, Re, through which Re used his waters to start creating the world. These waters weren't just the waters present on earth, but instead, it was believed that a primeval ocean surrounded the universe, through which the sun rose from each day. Given the Nile River and the flooding that often occurred, water played an extremely important role in Ancient Egypt. In Enuma Elish, the idea of a primeval water is also present, this time in the form of the gods of Tiamat and Apsu (Brown 2006). Tiamat, the primordial goddess of the ocean, took on Apsu as her mate, who himself was the god of fresh water. After they mated, silt was created, just as it does when fresh water moves into salt water. From this silt came the formation of the physical elements of the universe. Next, in Genesis, this idea of water being one of the first elements present is also evident. In Genesis 1:2, it is stated that "the earth was a formless void and darkness covered the face of the deep, while a wind from God swept over the face of the waters (Holland 2005)." • 77. The Myth Of The Indian Creation Myth There are many creation myths that have been told for hundreds of years that have served as an explanation for how the world works. Each culture has a creation myth that is unique to them. India, for example, has a creation myth that has been told for hundreds of years, and by examining the myth, it is possible to understand what their culture values. The Indian creation myth is one of the Puranas, or religious texts, within the Veda. According to Barry B. Powell, this myth may have been told around A.D. 500 and was either written in a book or was passed down orally from generation to generation (Powell 229). Now, there are print versions of the text, and there are people who tell of this story orally. Who the very first person was to tell the myth or write it down is unknown, but this myth has been read and told by people of India who believe in the religious texts, which is the myth's intended audience. The reason why this myth was told was to inspire the people of India "directly with models for behavior and explanations for the way the world is" (Powell 223), and that is also a reason why this myth is still told even today. This myth involves the ideas of light versus darkness, or good versus evil, along with the idea of destruction and rebirth as well as karma that Hinduism is known for. The story begins with Brahma, the god who creates the world. From him, the gods, demons, ancestors, and humans were created. Demons were the first beings to be created because Brahma ...
