Global Warming.
Introduction
Global warming is observed as a steady upsurge in the general temperature of the earth 's atmospheric setting, which is mainly attributed to the
greenhouse consequences due to amplified intensities of various air contaminants such as the carbon dioxide and chlorofluorocarbons. Being one of the
deadliest menace, currently confronting the word, experts have resolved that massive and uncontrolled production of these greenhouse gasses has
contributed greatly to the heating effect on the atmosphere, which has shown to be unsafe and hazardous, not only to the human beings but also to all
other living creatures. This paper seeks to explore research on what role does human ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The most anticipated effects of a hotter climate are perceived to be the alteration of the local weather configurations and patterns. Additionally, this
would have reflective consequences on the agricultural production in the current universe that is certainly unable to sufficiently provide for its
dwellers. Social conflict as a result of irregular redistribution of resources would be inevitable. The constant and uncontrolled generation of greenhouse
gasses will have bitter consequences far worse than producing a marginally milder climate (Spencer, Roy, 2012).
What role does human activity play in the current global warming trend?
Human beings, generally have a massive bearing on the environmental platform in several ways. The main effects include the diminishing of the water
quality, amplification of the greenhouse gas emissions, exhaustion of natural resources and also influence to the general global climatic variations.
Reflecting on the water and aquatic systems, humans have exhausted the nutrients such as the nitrogen and phosphorous which are very much critical
to the vigor and existence of the aquatic living creature (Smith, Philip and Nicolas Howe). Consequently, human beings contribute in the introduction of
large quantities of these constituents, mainly through fertilizers. Too much of anything is poisonous, and for this very factor, water quality is
eventually depleted leading to overgrowth of particular microorganisms that exhaustion of oxygen

The Knowledge Of The Natural Sciences And History Based On...
When the quote states, "attempt to know the world", it is regarding the gain of knowledge. This is because knowledge is the understanding of the
physical world surrounding us and beyond. Plato defined knowledge as 'justified, true belief, meaning that for knowledge to be legitimate, it must be
justified by sources such as reason, empirical evidence or memory. Secondly, the term 'assumptions' in the quote should also be explored. According
to the oxford dictionary, assumptions can be defined as something 'that is accepted as true without proof' . Therefore the quote is stating that our
knowledge of the world is based on a set of assumptions. The second part of the assertion produces the knowledge issues of the inability of testing the
knowledge. The oxford dictionary defines 'tested' as taking measurements to check the reliability of the something. Therefore, a key question that
comes from this quote is: To what extent are all knowledge in the natural sciences and history based on assumptions and is it possible to test it's
reliability?
The first knowledge issue from this quote is that the knowledge gained from the physical world is based on things that without proof. This knowledge
issue can be interlinked with the area of knowledge of natural sciences. The natural sciences study the rules that govern the natural world by applying
an empirical and scientific method to study of the universe. It is considered on of the more objective area of knowledge due to the scientific

Operations Research : The And Natural Sciences
Often times when I take courses in math or natural sciences, questions occurred to my mind. Why am I taking these courses in pure sciences, even
though they do not seem to have close connections to the real world? Indeed, I really enjoy taking courses in quantum mechanics, group theory, chaos
in dynamical systems, etc., because I am enamored with, while painfully, the scientific complications I encounter in these courses. Meanwhile, these
courses greatly help me foster my abilities to think, to analyze, to reason. However, from time to time I have a sense of loss, despite the excitement of
solving the problems, or the fulfillment in acquiring new knowledge. I did not feel relieved until I learned, almost accidentally, about operations
research. Unlike pure sciences, operations research utilizes analytical methods to solve real problems and help make better decisions. The most
attracting aspect of operations research is its problem–driven nature despite its emphasis on methodology (e.g. optimization, stochastic models,
simulation, etc.). The pursuits of efficiency, better quality, optimal control, etc. exactly fill my sense of loss. As a perfectionist somehow, I spare no
efforts doing the best I can in almost everything. Therefore, even though I have not had a chance to take courses in operations research, I clearly know
that operations research is going to be my next stage of study, because it fulfills both my academic interests and my personal pursuits. I have decided

Knowledge In The Natural Sciences And Indigenous Knowledge
Knowledge is frequently expanding as we make advancements in technology and find new ways to discover or test more theories. A claim is
usually considered as knowledge if we accept it to be true because it has been proven right or it has been tested. Many claims that are supported by
evidence are sometimes falsified, challenged or modified as new evidence is found. We gain our knowledge from a variety of sources such as
experts on media or even religious teachings and many people quite often accept this knowledge as being true without questioning its reliability. For
the purpose of this essay, knowledge being discarded is going to be defined as knowledge that evolves. To what extent is our knowledge in the
natural sciences and indigenous knowledge systems going to still going to be relevant in the future? Knowledge in the natural sciences may be
proven wrong and beliefs in indigenous knowledge may change tomorrow or with more evidence rising and being discovered it may continue to still
hold true. The natural sciences are sometimes viewed as more reliable because they use reason whereas indigenous knowledge is usually based more
on beliefs and traditions. Knowledge in the natural sciences is constantly evolving to new evidence and data quite regularly. Much of the knowledge in
the natural sciences is based on the scientific method; This means that scientists have a hypotheses and conduct experiments and make observations to
try and prove their hypotheses right. Something

Biology Personal Statement
I am writing this statement in hopes of studying in the Life Sciences programme offered by your school. Biology has long been my favorite subject,
and I have been long for the Life Science by The Chinese University of Hong Kong when I am still studying in secondary school as the programme is
strongly related to biology and do have a major in Food and Nutritional Sciences which I have a strong interest. If I was given the chance to enter
CUHK, I would treasure every learning opportunities and make use of all the resources provided by the school to improve myself and repay the

Science And The Natural Sciences
Primary research is a research in which a research will have to conduct themselves, for instance, surveys and interviews. This form of research is
important to the academic cultures because they created and conducted their own experiment. The results from the experiment are their own fresh new
findings that no one has tempered with.
The three academic cultures we have learned throughout this semester are Humanities, Social Science and the Natural Sciences. The natural sciences
have a focus that everything in the universe can be studied. Often times, scientists in the academic culture will create things that are not a part of the
natural world. A few of the disciplines in this academic culture are, biology, math, chemistry, and engineering. Epistemology is the theory of knowledge
in which an individual can acquire it. in regards to the natural sciences rationalism, is this cultures way to The social sciences study human behavior.
The epistemology that is a part of the social sciences are behavior, this has a focus on the individual and collective. Also part of this epistemology is that
institutions created to regulate behavior. The Humanities and Arts study how people process and document the human experience, they focus on what
is means to be a human. The epistemology that is composted of the humanities are idealism and rationalism. Idealism is knowledge that is based on
ideas rather than experiences. Rationalism is knowledge that is generated through reasoning. Together,

The Theory Of The Natural Sciences Essay
Over time, experts in all disciplines have experienced instances where a lack of consensus is derived from the exact same information. Whether
bipartisan or plural, these disagreements are the result of the varied ways knowers interpret knowledge; objectivity is extremely difficult to reach, if not
impossible. Within the natural sciences, fundamental disagreements develop due to the adoption of conflicting theories and alternate methodologies.
Moreover, individual and analytical biases can skew the interpretation of data, leading to contrasting conclusions or understanding.
Subjectivity is much more apparent in ethics due to the emotive and intuitive justification of morality. Therefore, discord tends to arise more frequently
between moral philosophers from individual emotional weaknesses and faults in intuition. Additionally, the adherence to contradictory theories can
cause unique conclusions to be derived from identical thought experiments.
Due to their falsifiable nature, theories in the natural sciences are purified constantly over time. During the transitory period between these paradigm
shifts and scientific revolutions, conflict can arise because experts have to decide whether to align with the novel or the traditional approach. In the
early 19th century, the science community experienced this with the clash between Mendel's Law of Inheritance and the previously accepted Theory of
Pangenesis. Through his experiments with pea plants, Mendel concluded that "hereditary

History Of Science And The Natural Sciences
In the last several years I have developed two main areas of focus: I am interested in the history of scientific diagrams (including maps) as a
combination of the history of visualization and theories of representation, as well as in the more physical spaces of science, including natural history
museums, hospitals, and laboratories. Since the last years of my undergraduate degree at Rice, I have been interested in the intersections of science and
architecture. I completed my BA in two major fields – architecture and civil engineering – and thus have a firm background in both the humanities and
the natural sciences. Outside of school, I gained experience in both architecture and experimental physics. At no time did I try to separate my practical
training in either field from my more scholarly interests in their overlap, and I have continued this inter–disciplinary interest by constructing a dual PhD
program at Harvard, enrolling in both the History of Science and History of Architecture & Urban Planning programs. (I will fulfill the course and
general examination requirements of both departments, and write one dissertation. My committee will include professors from both fields.)
One topic that particularly interests me is the development of American laboratories in the late nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Laboratories have
existed in several contexts – from the work of individual inventors and corporate R&D to academic departments and governmental agencies – and their

What is the common environment of children being diagnosed with ADD? Do most children being diagnosed with ADD come from a home or attend
school in a strict and structured environment? Are they "just being kids" when they are daydreaming or fidgeting or do they really have a problem
that warrants treatment or medication? Many of the children being diagnosed are from the upper class or live in the suburbs so it seems that the 3
parents and teachers just want a "cookie cut–out kid". They want the child to always be on his best behavior. Children develop differently and some
just need a little more time to mature. If ADD symptoms occur at home and school the child's temperament needs to be taken into account. The child
may be younger therefore more immature than his classmates and this may cause the teacher to think he needs to be tested (Michigan State University,
2010). If the child's daily life is negatively affected it may be more than temperament, but it may not be ADD. Who has input in diagnosing children
with ADD? Specialists must rely on parents and teachers to give information about the children's symptoms, but are the children just being
unmanageable and unruly or do they truly have a problem? The specialist is given a list of the symptoms, but this is purely subjective. The parents
have the most input since they are the ones mostly spending time with the kids, but teachers are also asked for input. Parents sometimes are

The And His Understanding Of The Creation Through Dialogue...
3. Pannenberg's Theodicy and His Understanding of the Creation through Dialogue with Natural Science When creatures are created as finite beings,
they gain their independence from God and other creatures. This is because we assume "the limiting of their own finitude by other creatures." Hence,
their revolt against the limit of finitude in their relationships with God is also intertwined with their failure to be in peaceful unity with other creatures.
On the contrary, the God–intended independence is to participate in the reality of the eschatological kingdom of God through the fellowship with
God and that of love and justice among other fellow humans and creatures. For Pannenberg, if this is the case, then the independence of a creature
cannot be identified as the necessary root of evil. Rather, the root of evil lies in "the revolt against the limit of finitude, in the refusal to accept one's
own finitude, and [accordingly] in the related illusion of being like God." Evil is not necessary, but constitutes an inevitable condition of the finitude
of creatures when they make free decisions. Therefore, God's free decision to create the world "carried with it the risk of a misuse of this creaturely
freedom, or the "risk of the abuse of God–given freedom to conform to the reality of the kingdom of God." The independence of human beings is
inseparably connected to the indeterminacy or contingency inherent in the evolutionary process of the cosmos. To be

Why Is Natural Science?
Although it may be a subconscious process, it is inevitable that humans 'value' certain knowledge more than others – both on a personal level and more
widely as a society or community. The titular statement insinuates that knowledge is endowed with value when it is produced with difficulty.
However, there is a lot of ambiguity regarding both the concept of difficulty and value of knowledge. Possible stances with regard to the statement
will be greatly influenced by the way difficulty and value is defined. As an initial starting point, difficulty will be defined and measured in terms of
effort expended and the time consumed to produce the knowledge. Value of knowledge will be defined as the importance, worth or usefulness of the
knowledge.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thereby, if we consider using sense perception to be an easy means of producing knowledge, then it follows that knowledge is easy to produce in
Natural Science. Nonetheless, due to the knowledge having many practical applications, it is still valued despite the production process not being
particularly difficult.
Furthermore, defining difficulty in terms of effort has a shortcoming. From the perspective of someone who has an ocular impairment, producing the
same knowledge about rates of reaction will be more difficult as they might not be able to see the colour change. This illustrates that defining difficulty
in terms of effort and time leads to difficulty becoming a relative concept due to the subjective nature of effort– hence why my initial definition of
difficulty is limiting.
For a new definition, a more holistic view of the method of knowledge production in Natural Science must be taken. Obtaining empirical evidence
using sense perception is only one step in the whole process. The observations must be interpreted using reason, which requires greater effort and time,
as rigorous thinking is required. Perhaps the most difficult step is the first one: the proposal of either a new theory, hypothesis or prediction. This is
difficult as the scientist must think out of the box in unconventional ways. They must question the validity of widely accepted theories. Thereby, a
better definition for difficulty is the

Difference Between Natural Science And Social Science
Above all else, the aim of science is to produce knowledge; that is, science aims to produce a set of verified statements about phenomena and their
varying relationships. Scientists obtain this knowledge through a systematic procedure generally including identification, observation, description,
classification, experimental investigation, and theoretical explanation of phenomenon. Of all that can be observed by science, there is understood to be
two separate types of phenomena: natural (that which exists independently of human interaction) and social (that which exists only because of human
interaction). As science primarily observes phenomena in order to gain knowledge, the sciences are consequently broken up into two divisions that
independently study the two divisions of phenomena; the two divisions of science are thus natural science and social science. Furthermore, it is a
common consensus in the scientific community that natural scientists "know" more than social scientists. Though seemingly derogatory, the phrase
remains true as natural scientists indeed have more knowledge of the phenomena they study than do social scientists; this exists only as a result of four
unique qualities of social phenomena as compared to natural phenomena. As all phenomenon that can be observed can be certainly divided into two
categories, science as a pursuit to observe phenomena must consequently be divided into the two categories that separately study these. Natural
phenomena is

When I was very young, my science teacher taught me Charles Darwin's evolution theory, and I never doubted that theory since Darwin is a

the scientist who came up with the theory is the authority and there are not any other theories to believe.

What extent would you agree with this claim in the natural and human sciences.

Assumptions in the title of this essay imply that results, theories and laws resulting from the current system of peer review multiple perspectives
produce completely infallible objective truth, this is a false premise. Whilst the group of knowers known as the scientific community have collectively
less bias than one lone knower trying to understand the universe, there is still collective and engrained level of institutional bias. The same problems
of confirmation bias and expectation are present in a group of knowers just as they are with one single knower. According to Karl Popper (1902–1994)
the best way to eliminate any expectation and confirmation bias was to falsify and disprove rather than confirm one's hypothesis and predictions.
Popper argues: no matter how convincing an argument or theory is, all that is needed to disprove it is one piece of valid counterclaiming evidence.
Whilst this theory is valid on an individual level, it really becomes an effective tool in the objectivity of science on a large scale. Despite this attempt
at objectifying and 'protecting against' error and bias it is inadequate due to inherent flaws in the scientific method. Induction, moving from the
specific to the general, is the key element in scientific logic. Any theory or law 'proved' through this logic has some key flaws: the main flaw being
that inductive logic can never be certain of any event happening or of any prediction. Richard van de Lagemaat

How Ethical Judgments Limit the Arts and Natural Sciences
Our ethical judgments will always limit us in gaining new knowledge in the arts and natural sciences. There are some methods that would work to
uncover new information, but would go against ethical standards set by society such as animal and human testing. There is also the dilemma as to
who should be able to access and view the information available. In art, a knowledge issue that arises is how do we determine what is appropriate for
people to see? The innocent minds of children disappear when they are exposed to adult–like topics. Mature content needs to be censored in artwork
that children can see. However, an artwork viewed by one may appear to be inapt and shameful, while another might see it as inspiring and
creative. There is also street art that has no way of being censored since it is out in the open. Some may think it is vandalism while others find it to
be works of art. There is no way to accurately determine what art is appropriate because we use perception when deciding if it is appropriate.
Everyone perceives information differently so no two people will have the exact same views on what is appropriate versus what is not. However,
some believe that people should be able to express themselves freely. They should not be forced to hold in their talent and imagination. People should
be able to share their ideas for everyone to enjoy. However, the ethical judgments of society limit people's ability to do this because society attempts to
censor explicit

The Rise Of Natural Science
Natural science has been historically recognised as one of the factors affecting the development of social science; particularly, during the period of the
Enlightenment, natural science had been one of the factors to improve human life (Turner, 2001: 30). The Enlightenment is to help humans emerge
from immaturity and this aim finds expression in Kant's motto "Dare to know" (Kant, 1784). During the period of the Enlightenment, due to the
remarkable scientific advancement, traditional religion–based societies tended to come to an end and there occurred two revolutions particularly in
Western Europe: the French Revolution and the Industrial Revolution. Owing to them, society had been radically changed in terms of politics and
economy albeit new other problems had been brought such as job competition and capital–based societies, in other word, capitalism (Hossain and
Mustari, 2012: 64; Gollin, 1970: 1). As a result, in spite of the end of the absolute monarchy, there still remained the inequality in societies.
In that situation, the idea of 'positivism' was founded as an anti–enlightenment idea by Auguste Comte who was a French philosopher (Perry, 1993:
247). Positivism is a philosophical system developing laws for human organisation along with the same way as natural sciences. On the basis of this
idea, Comte also established the term 'sociology' as one of the scientific fields, the 'science of society' (Giddens and Sutton, 2013: 11). In fact, Comte's
idea had not been

* Record your results * Measure the remaining mass of the ice cubes, and record your results. * Repeat this test three times for each substance used.
Reasoning
The purpose of this experiment is to measure the reaction of the ice melting when exposed to another solid element. The environment is a kitchen with
a stable temperature and testing space. Repeating the tests three times will provide different data which will then be averaged for each element. For
each test, calculate the percentage of the ice cube melted by [mass of melt water/initial mass of ice cube] x 100.
Sequence of Events
I started with controlling my experiment environment. It was in a still kitchen, with no appliances running to minimize humidity and control the room
temperature. I then broke my ice cube tray and finding cubes that weight .10grams. I set up my timer for each station. I put three–.10gram ice cubes in
a identical contained on top of the pre measured ВЅ teaspoon of sugar, salt and baking soda, then I hit start on the timer. When the timer hit 15
minutes I picked up each ice cube and put it on another dry identical dish. I then measured the melted liquid, followed by measuring the melted ice
cube alone. I repeated this three times to get an average.

The Historical Reasons Between Natural Science And Religion

The wall is more historic to be discussed is the one between natural science and religion, which people disagree with each other on the genesis of the
world. According to most of history events, science and religion cannot get along with each other, the reasons relate to the historical reasons, the
different method to measure the world, and the word faith.
In the centuries of despotism by religion, people struggled, crept out of the chaos of mind, and then cleaned up their thought, finally entered the new

same as science, people research and study in science literally finding out the truth of the world. Indeed, science and pure religion have a same target:
to reach the truth. The Bible in the old age was reasonable for people to learn about the universe and anthropology. On the other hand, science, people
apply it as a universal standard to discover the world and the universe, also called the Weltanschauung. Certainly, science represents the same spirit as

religion provides one explanation of the world to its adherent, and any unexplainable phenomenon and events would be explained as the god's

The Theory Of The Natural Sciences
Knowledge, to me, can be defined as information that has been verified, either by self or by the group and is something that we know and believe.
Information on the other–hand is not necessarily known by us as individuals, but nevertheless, it does exist. The sum of all information is therefore our
total potential knowledge. This prescribed title not only implies that the only knowledge possible is "shared knowledge", but that knowledge itself is
impossible for an individual to attain. This in turn discounts hunches, suspicions and theories–which are all seen as being forms of "personal
knowledge". This title must be used in context for it to hold meaning. In context of the natural sciences, this title holds true as greater society is not so
naive as to believe as fact the thoughts of a single man. But when the thoughts and ideas of a single man are put through a tried and tested method, such
as the scientific method, tests are carried out, criticism is allowed and improvement is made, only then, with the relative evidence to back up this
solitary man's claim, do we, the group, begin to accept his claim as "knowledge". On the other hand, knowledge of what we deem ethical and morally
right, whilst we can gain this from interaction with the group, is not typically verified by the group, but rather is verified by ourselves, within our own
heads. An important question to ask in conjunction with the prescribed title is "How does knowledge creation differ between areas of

Leadership From A Natural Sciences Standpoint
There have been many studies and papers written about leadership by looking at all sorts of perspectives. More recently, researchers have started to
look at the keys to leadership from a natural sciences standpoint. The world is starting to understand that our views of leadership in organizations have
to be consistent with the nature of the world outside. Richard Wielkiewicz and Stephen Stelzner go so far to say that the key to effectiveleadership is by
looking at and having a fair representation of all perspectives, that includes an environmental perspective. They not only give assertions about
leadership as a whole, but they also give criteria for looking at leadership from an ecological standpoint as to better understand it.
In the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A third assertion says organizations are more adaptive when diversity of input is present. This is an easy statement to understand. If people with
different backgrounds give input, there will be a wider range of thoughts and ideas. If an organization takes these diverse perspectives into account,
they will be better able to adapt to changing thoughts and societal norms. The final assertion given is related to Wheatley's notion of new and old
science. Wheatley suggests that old science is a mechanistic view that is no longer relatable and that her idea of new science is one that needs to be
followed (Wheatley, 2006, pg. 15). On the other hand, Wielkiewicz and Stelzner say that instead of just rejecting old science, there should be a tension
between the two approaches. One needs to find a resolution between the traditional "industrial approach" and the lesser known neglected "ecological
approach".
There are four ecological principles than can help explain organizational leadership. They are interdependence, open systems and feedback loops, the
cycling of resources, and adaptation. By looking at each principle, one can relate it back to their organization and hopefully be able to integrate the
things learned with previous notions in order to make leadership more efficient. While it is an interesting idea to use scientific

Ethical Judgments in the Arts and Natural Sciences
Ethical judgements are a very potent limiting factor in both the arts and natural sciences, and although these judgements are often times subjective to
specific people or cultures, they are extremely beneficial. The exploration of these ethical judgements is vitally important in order to understand
why exactly they are thought to limit the methods available in the production of knowledge in these areas, but must also be looked at with a fair
and balanced perspective. To begin with, the definition of ethical judgements must be identified. Ethical judgements are "rules" provided by an
external source about what is "right" and "wrong". Essentially, they are what society says are appropriate and sensible decisions. When it comes to
the arts and natural sciences, ethical judgements are frequently used to determine if the product is to be commonly accepted or even permissible at
all. Ethical judgements serve to limit the methods available in the production of knowledge in many areas, especially the arts and natural sciences,
which benefits society in the long run. The arts have a plethora of examples that demonstrate the benefits of ethical judgements in order to preserve
morality and dignity of the artists themselves. One specific example of this is the usage of animal furs and skins all in the name of a new pair of
leather boots and wool sweaters. If not for ethics, the value of animal life would be significantly less, and certain species might even be extinct by now,

Human Science And Natural Science
Disagreement may aid the pursuit of knowledge in the natural and human sciences because disagreement leads to new discoveries. Disagreement is
about gathering reliable knowledge as well as using this newfound knowledge, and occurs when a group fails to reach a consensus over the logic of an
argument. Knowledge is composed of facts, information, and skills acquired by a person through experience or education. Two areas of knowledge that
are impacted by disagreement are human science and natural science. Human science is the study of human behavior and how humans gather
information. Natural science is a branch of science that deals with the physical world. In order for a disagreement to occur, one must be familiar with
the subject and have his or her own prediction that is different from the norm. Therefore, to advance knowledge in the areas of human and natural
science, people must disagree. The roles of logic, reason, and emotion will be investigated to see how they are used to help gain new knowledge in
both human and natural science. Many knowledge claims in human and natural science are based on theories. Jean Lamarck proposed the theory of
evolution in 1801. The theory of evolution proposed by Lamarck was based on the idea that organisms had to change their behavior to survive. For
instance, if a giraffe stretched it neck for a long period of time to reach the leaves as the top of the tree, then a "nervous fluid" would flow in the neck
and make it longer. Thus, its

Importance of Religion for Two Paradigms: Science and Natural Philosophy
Since the beginning of the intellectual development of mankind, the question of whether there is god or not has been a question that still remains.
However, its effects on our way of thinking has been shaped by a number of people, thinkers, priests, scientists so on and so forth. If we were to divide
that continuum into two parts, they would be before the enlightenment and after the enlightenment. Namely the times of natural philosophy and times of
science since the term produced after the mid eighteenths. Before the enlightenment religion was the core, center pillar of natural philosophy when the
medieval Europe was thought. Nevertheless, after that era the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The main difference between the natural philosophy and the science has come from the part of experiment. While science is empirical, natural
philosophy is not. The power lies within science comes from the experiment part because it is undeniable. Moreover, there is another difference. In that,
as Reeves (2008) states that the goal of natural philosophy is different than the modern science. Because, natural philosophers had no interest in
prediction and control but rather general understanding of nature.
Thirdly, place of religion in those two paradigms. As a matter of fact that distinction can be seen by looking at how they get separated from each other
by enlightenment. Just before the enlightenment, the natural philosophy and religion were highly integrated in medieval Europe. They were not seen
as different thing rather they seemed to be a part of the order of god. Interestingly, universities were helping that system. But there were some great
thinkers who changed that perpetual cycle. However, that shift was occurred in an instant. It can be understood by glancing at some examples. For
example Isaac Newton is known as the father of calculus and the founder of law of gravity. It may appear that he was a scientist since he followed the
scientific method and devise such things. If we look at it one famous book called "Mathematical Principles of Natural

Does The Human And Natural Sciences Receive Knowledge?
Knowledge can be accepted or refuted, hence what determines accepted knowledge? I believe 'accepted knowledge' is that which has been tested
whereby sufficient evidence has been collected to support certain knowledge claims. However, it is important to consider times when knowledge has
been refuted. Despite strong belief that we possess objective facts, through research and technological progresses, such facts become re–interpreted in
light of new evidence and discoveries. Personally, discarded knowledge refers to theories or laws being dismissed as new–found information proves
more accurate. However, knowledge can also be amended as it is evolves. Knowledge is often discarded or amended due to technological progresses
or changing social trends. Taking both a natural and a humanscience in IB, I feel that knowledge is more readily discarded in the natural sciences
whereas in the human sciences knowledge is amended as certain theories evolve. This suggests that knowledge is not static hence leading to the main
knowledge issue which will be explored: "To what extent is knowledge within the human and natural sciences provisional?
In the natural sciences, theories may not be proven experimentally correct; however, it can be falsified through experimental evidence. Aristotle's idea
of spontaneous generation, organisms descending from inanimate matter, was falsified by Pasteur. As Pasteur's falsification was drawn from the cell
theory, this shows how scientific theories are

Social Science vs Natural Science
Social sciences analyse systematically the social realm of the world. They are integrative area of study of human behaviour and society which
encompasses disciplines of anthropology, economics, political science, psychology and sociology. Social sciences study methodically the manner in
which people behave and how they influence the world around us. It aims to comprehend any given social phenomena by using a methodology
borrowed from the physical sciences.
Social sciences and natural sciences differ not only in the field of study, but also in their research approaches. Natural sciences are the study of natural
world. They use scientific method to study about nature and relate to everything else in nature such as the animals, earth, ... Show more content on

There will be no changes to student concessionary card fares. The PTC said that the fare hike works out to about a rise of 15 cents per week for 85
per cent of commuters. YAHOO News Singapore (2011) reported that the fare increment of 1 percent will mean that the transport operators stand to
earn $15 million in extra revenue.
The objective of this particular study is to see how Singaporeans have reacted towards the fare hike and also whether the increase in public transports
fares is justifiable.
The Public Transport Council explained that the increase is timed to coincide with the opening of the rest of the Circle MRT Line. Even though the
fare hike is less that half of the maximum increase of 2.8 per cent applied for by SBS Transit and SMRT Corp, Singaporeans still questioned the fare
hike approved by the Public Transport Council. YAHOO News Singapore (2011), reported that "Within an hour of the announcement, over a hundred
people left commands on Yahoo Singapore's Facebook page". Most of them are not particularly happy with the decision made by PTC. Currently,
commuters have to jostle for personal space in the MRT during the morning and evening rush hours. During these times, commuters will be standing

Stock Market Observation Paper
Over the past summer during my Stock Market program at Columbia, I befriended a girl named Maria. After a few icebreakers, I learned that Maria
actually lives in Amsterdam, in the Netherlands, the country famous for wooden shoes, tulips and windmills, and so much more as I learnt from her.
Maria explained that throughout Amsterdam there are many small cafes – with more variety than just Starbucks – that she goes to do classwork, meet
up with friends, or just enjoy a refreshing cup of hot chocolate especially during the cold winter months. She explained that especially after ice–skating
on the "Grachten" (the water canals in Amsterdam) a "warme choco" is the best thing to feel your toes again. An interesting thought for a Texan that
normally thrives on cold water and winters with hardly any snow or ice. Maria also... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

and tracking her own successes and failures also led me to be more time–conscious and reflecting upon my own failures and successes in relationship to
set milestones and targets. For her it was fun to see improvement and to beat her own time. A habit that fits well with Mr Franklin's saying "Time is

Natural Science Vs Religion
Natural science and religion are two areas of knowledge that perceive knowledge using ways of knowing differently to pursue its knowledge, an
example of that would be Charles Darwin and his theory of natural selection and evolution. In natural science, the theory of natural selection is derived
from studying the common features in the bone structure of vertebrate limbs despite its varied use. Therefore, using deductive reasoning, they
established the evolution theory which states that humans evolved from apes due to the fact that human and apes have similar features and that human
has evolved due to adaptation and survival of genes. However, religion, using not only intuition and emotions but also reason disagrees with the claim
of evolution.

Nature And Nature In Antonio Vivaldi's La Primavera
My first work is "La Primavera" written by the Italian composer Antonio Vivaldi in 1723. "La Primavera" is one of four violin concertos, each
capturing moods and illustrating stories related to a specific time of year. Each section within this movement illustrate the most beautiful scenes of the
spring season, including birds, babbling brooks, and a thunderstorm. (Soomo). My second work is an oil on canvas painting, titled "The Grand Canyon
of the Yellowstone" by Thomas Moran. "The Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone" was painted in 1872 and captures the unique geological formations
and diverse and extravagant colors of the Midwestern United States landscape. The common theme shared by both of the chosen pieces of work is
nature. Antonio Vivaldi embraces the spring season and captures the moods and illustrates stories specific to that time of year. Moran captured the true
beauty of a Midwestern landscape of the United States. Although one work is musical piece and the other is a landscape painting, both capture the
beauty of nature and the surrounding elements.
2. Audience Impact
The theme of nature should impact any member of my audience. Although each artifact contains its own unique message, both pieces of art possess an
underlying message of connecting with nature. For the audience, a deep connection with nature is offered through the artifacts as they are reminded of
the inherent beauty that exists in the natural world. I feel the chosen topic of the presentation would be

The Relevance of Maps in Natural and Human Sciences
In my opinion, a map is a representation of real life situations scaled onto paper, used to further explain, describe and simplify information. It can be
in the form of a model, a diagram or an actual map showing features of the earth. When my Geography teacher in Form 4 taught the class about
Population, we couldn't really grasp the concept of how to determine the stages of countries in terms of their birth rate and death rate, so he used the
Demographic Transition Model that shows the stages of birth rate and death rate as well as population growth of countries to further explain the stages
of development in countries, in relation to population. After his explanation of the model, 15 out of 17 students stated that they fully understood the
topic as opposed to 5 out of 17 students in the class before the class was introduced to the model. This goes to show that the model successfully
simplified the knowledge and aided us in further understanding the topic, thus proving its convenience only when it simplifies knowledge. If it wasn't
used to simplify the knowledge, it wouldn't have been relevant in the situation. What I plan to do in this essay is to explore what it means to simplify
knowledge as well as discussing the relevance of maps in two areas of knowledge; Natural Sciences and Human Sciences, as well as discuss the extent
to which a map simplifies knowledge.
Simplifying knowledge means breaking it down from a complex form to a form in which most people would

K nowledgecan be defined in different ways, as noted by the Oxford dictionary, "knowledge is the understanding of facts, information or skills acquired
through experience and education , such as learning, communication, reasoning and discovering new abilities".
Even though at first some areas of knowledge sought to either transform or describe the world, nowadays they do both an example of this are natural
sciences. Years agoscience was trying to describe how the world around us worked, but thanks to developments and new technologies, natural sciences
have been able to use that knowledge to create great changes in the world.
However, even today some areas of knowledge seek to only describe the world. Human sciences, is an example of this, as it often only generates
theories that describe processes or behaviors.
Both natural sciences and human sciences, use description as a way to explain the transformation of the world, however when seeking to gain more
knowledge to transform the world it is essential to take into consideration the ethics in order to differentiate between what is right from what is wrong.
This essay will look at how knowledge about the brain in natural sciences and human sciences describes and transforms the world,.

The telescope is an optical instrument designed to make distant objects appear nearer. It contains an arrangement of lenses or mirrors or both that
gathers visible light, permitting direct observation or photographic recording of distant objects. (Lacki, B. C. 2011). With the use of telescopes we
have been able to learn a lot more about the planets in our universe. It has helped us understand about some of the history of everything around us.
Also it has been able to track asteroids and comets or any randomly flying objet in outer space that might become threatening to our planet. Another tool
that have had a big impact in the science world is the Microscope. A microscope is an optical instrument that uses a lens or combination of lenses
to produce a magnified image of small or microscopic objects such as bacteria and cells. One of the most known and historic purposes that the
microscope has been used for is during the discovery of penicillin. Dr. Fleming, a bacteriologist, observed that a plate culture of staphylococcus had

colonies of bacteria next to the mold were being dissolved. Fleming then proceed to grow the mold in pure culture and produced a substance that killed

Researchers will also be analyzing if the type of course, natural science or social science, will alter the note–taking technique that has the highest
scores. Type of course will also be a between–subjects variable. Materials required will include in–class assignments related to the lecture materials.
Each in–class assignment will consist of ten questions that are easy to answer if the student was attending to what the professor was saying. All
students will require a laptop or paper notebook to take notes on. The classrooms necessary will be smaller rooms with a maximum of 40 seats per
room. This small size is necessary so the research assistants can ensure each student is using the correct method. Additionally, one experimental
condition will require the use of the app StayFocusd from Transfusion Media (2010) which allows its users to temporarily block access to
user–specified apps for a designated amount of time. This experiment will require the use of four research assistants. Two of these assistants will be
placed in the classroom to ensure students are using the appropriate method. The remaining two research assistants will be in the lab processing and
configuring the data for the results of the experiment. Different researchers will be used to compute the data than those who are in the classrooms to
eliminate any chance of experimenter bias. Lastly, the professors will be designing and distributing the in–class assignments. Procedure Students

science is explained through the scientific method which follows a particular series of seven steps. However, social science can't follow the scientific

Natural science gathers information through cause and effect. Social science studies a specific subject (people) define it and gives meaning to it as it

The Natural And Human Science
The word value is defined as the amount of the importance, worth, or usefulness of something. Typically values for every individual differs which is
why value in this sense leads to the unwanted study of behaviorism in political science research. It does also lead to interpretation. The difference
between behavioral and interpretive studies is that behavioral study of politics would be to make an assumption and predict causes of certain
phenomena's. Interpretative takes one's values and uses that to find a solution without so much jumping to a conclusion. Kuhn, Gunnell, Taylor, and
Webber analyze the meanings of value and interpretation and how it affects social/ political science research and societies at large.

"He claimed that there was no essential difference between theories and facts and that scientific theories, and the concepts they embodied, were
fundamental claims about what existed and the manner of its existence."(The real revolution in political science, 47). This quote supports the idea that
theories in political science are not constructions of the kind Kuhn Posited. "They are not basic reality claims that could ultimately be judged untrue in
the manner..."(48) Unlike natural science, there is no need for a 3rd party and we come up with the concepts. On the other hand he argues that social
sciences do not constitute to reality. There is already something out there that exists so in other words, it's not primary. If social science were to
disappear, culture would still exist. Social science he argues is based on perspective whereas natural science will exist regardless. The natural science
never changes only the concepts that are part of the particular topic in natural science change as time progresses. For example, elements on the
periodic table have always had the same foundation. The way we made understanding of them over time is what changed. Frankly, when it comes to
social science, it is fundamentally interpretive. There's already an idea that requires interpretation and doesn't define what's actually going on. There is
more of a variety and on going study since interpretation is ever lasting and always changing and developing.

more fields such as medicine, engineer, ecologist and so on to contribute to our society. Thus, let us discuss how has science contributed to society
today.
First of all, science has improved our extend our living time. The study of biology has allowed us to know more about living things. For an example,
we learnt the anatomy and physiology of human, animal and plant in biology. From this, we can clearly know the living things structure and chemical

knowledge of this, we can know the usage of the substance and use the substance without any wastage. For an example, we know the petroleum has a
very low boiling point and can burn easily. Thus, we use it as raw material for the combustion process in machines to produce energy for movement.

Genetic Engineering : The Science Of Replacing Natural Essay
Genetic Engineering: The Science of Replacing Natural Selection and Evolution Consider the implications of the following: tomatoes are sensitive to
frost, which shortens their growing seasons. Fish, in contrast, survive in very cold water. Scientists have found the specific gene that enables fish to
resist cold in a flounder, and used genetic engineering to incorporate it into the genetic material of a tomato. By what moral authority does science have
the right to make this transformation? In a life of technological advancement, human beings are faced with many ethical issues regarding the natural
world. People have become capable of scientifically manipulating genes to create organisms that nature never intended to exist. Although scientists have
the technology at their disposal, it begs the questions: Is it ethical to change living organisms to better satisfy our own needs? Do scientists know
enough about the process of genetic engineering and the long–term effects of genetically altering a food supply, to determine if it is safe and
environmentally sound? Many companies have made large profits on genetically altered produce. Tomatoes are bigger and corn is more golden.
Consumers are happier. The government does not require that companies label their genetically engineered products. However, through regulation and
knowledge, the government could be a crucial ethical force in controlling the impact of genetic engineering on industry and society. Genetic

Natural Science Mini Literature Review

  • 1. Natural Science Mini Literature Review Natural Sciences Mini–Literature Review Global Warming. Introduction Global warming is observed as a steady upsurge in the general temperature of the earth 's atmospheric setting, which is mainly attributed to the greenhouse consequences due to amplified intensities of various air contaminants such as the carbon dioxide and chlorofluorocarbons. Being one of the deadliest menace, currently confronting the word, experts have resolved that massive and uncontrolled production of these greenhouse gasses has contributed greatly to the heating effect on the atmosphere, which has shown to be unsafe and hazardous, not only to the human beings but also to all other living creatures. This paper seeks to explore research on what role does human ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The most anticipated effects of a hotter climate are perceived to be the alteration of the local weather configurations and patterns. Additionally, this would have reflective consequences on the agricultural production in the current universe that is certainly unable to sufficiently provide for its dwellers. Social conflict as a result of irregular redistribution of resources would be inevitable. The constant and uncontrolled generation of greenhouse gasses will have bitter consequences far worse than producing a marginally milder climate (Spencer, Roy, 2012). What role does human activity play in the current global warming trend? Human beings, generally have a massive bearing on the environmental platform in several ways. The main effects include the diminishing of the water quality, amplification of the greenhouse gas emissions, exhaustion of natural resources and also influence to the general global climatic variations. Reflecting on the water and aquatic systems, humans have exhausted the nutrients such as the nitrogen and phosphorous which are very much critical to the vigor and existence of the aquatic living creature (Smith, Philip and Nicolas Howe). Consequently, human beings contribute in the introduction of large quantities of these constituents, mainly through fertilizers. Too much of anything is poisonous, and for this very factor, water quality is eventually depleted leading to overgrowth of particular microorganisms that exhaustion of oxygen ... • 2. The Knowledge Of The Natural Sciences And History Based On... When the quote states, "attempt to know the world", it is regarding the gain of knowledge. This is because knowledge is the understanding of the physical world surrounding us and beyond. Plato defined knowledge as 'justified, true belief, meaning that for knowledge to be legitimate, it must be justified by sources such as reason, empirical evidence or memory. Secondly, the term 'assumptions' in the quote should also be explored. According to the oxford dictionary, assumptions can be defined as something 'that is accepted as true without proof' . Therefore the quote is stating that our knowledge of the world is based on a set of assumptions. The second part of the assertion produces the knowledge issues of the inability of testing the knowledge. The oxford dictionary defines 'tested' as taking measurements to check the reliability of the something. Therefore, a key question that comes from this quote is: To what extent are all knowledge in the natural sciences and history based on assumptions and is it possible to test it's reliability? The first knowledge issue from this quote is that the knowledge gained from the physical world is based on things that without proof. This knowledge issue can be interlinked with the area of knowledge of natural sciences. The natural sciences study the rules that govern the natural world by applying an empirical and scientific method to study of the universe. It is considered on of the more objective area of knowledge due to the scientific ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Operations Research : The And Natural Sciences Often times when I take courses in math or natural sciences, questions occurred to my mind. Why am I taking these courses in pure sciences, even though they do not seem to have close connections to the real world? Indeed, I really enjoy taking courses in quantum mechanics, group theory, chaos in dynamical systems, etc., because I am enamored with, while painfully, the scientific complications I encounter in these courses. Meanwhile, these courses greatly help me foster my abilities to think, to analyze, to reason. However, from time to time I have a sense of loss, despite the excitement of solving the problems, or the fulfillment in acquiring new knowledge. I did not feel relieved until I learned, almost accidentally, about operations research. Unlike pure sciences, operations research utilizes analytical methods to solve real problems and help make better decisions. The most attracting aspect of operations research is its problem–driven nature despite its emphasis on methodology (e.g. optimization, stochastic models, simulation, etc.). The pursuits of efficiency, better quality, optimal control, etc. exactly fill my sense of loss. As a perfectionist somehow, I spare no efforts doing the best I can in almost everything. Therefore, even though I have not had a chance to take courses in operations research, I clearly know that operations research is going to be my next stage of study, because it fulfills both my academic interests and my personal pursuits. I have decided ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Knowledge In The Natural Sciences And Indigenous Knowledge Knowledge is frequently expanding as we make advancements in technology and find new ways to discover or test more theories. A claim is usually considered as knowledge if we accept it to be true because it has been proven right or it has been tested. Many claims that are supported by evidence are sometimes falsified, challenged or modified as new evidence is found. We gain our knowledge from a variety of sources such as experts on media or even religious teachings and many people quite often accept this knowledge as being true without questioning its reliability. For the purpose of this essay, knowledge being discarded is going to be defined as knowledge that evolves. To what extent is our knowledge in the natural sciences and indigenous knowledge systems going to still going to be relevant in the future? Knowledge in the natural sciences may be proven wrong and beliefs in indigenous knowledge may change tomorrow or with more evidence rising and being discovered it may continue to still hold true. The natural sciences are sometimes viewed as more reliable because they use reason whereas indigenous knowledge is usually based more on beliefs and traditions. Knowledge in the natural sciences is constantly evolving to new evidence and data quite regularly. Much of the knowledge in the natural sciences is based on the scientific method; This means that scientists have a hypotheses and conduct experiments and make observations to try and prove their hypotheses right. • 6. Science And The Natural Sciences Primary research is a research in which a research will have to conduct themselves, for instance, surveys and interviews. This form of research is important to the academic cultures because they created and conducted their own experiment. The results from the experiment are their own fresh new findings that no one has tempered with. The three academic cultures we have learned throughout this semester are Humanities, Social Science and the Natural Sciences. The natural sciences have a focus that everything in the universe can be studied. Often times, scientists in the academic culture will create things that are not a part of the natural world. A few of the disciplines in this academic culture are, biology, math, chemistry, and engineering. Epistemology is the theory of knowledge in which an individual can acquire it. in regards to the natural sciences rationalism, is this cultures way to The social sciences study human behavior. The epistemology that is a part of the social sciences are behavior, this has a focus on the individual and collective. Also part of this epistemology is that institutions created to regulate behavior. The Humanities and Arts study how people process and document the human experience, they focus on what is means to be a human. The epistemology that is composted of the humanities are idealism and rationalism. Idealism is knowledge that is based on ideas rather than experiences. • 7. The Theory Of The Natural Sciences Essay Over time, experts in all disciplines have experienced instances where a lack of consensus is derived from the exact same information. Whether bipartisan or plural, these disagreements are the result of the varied ways knowers interpret knowledge; objectivity is extremely difficult to reach, if not impossible. Therefore, discord tends to arise more frequently between moral philosophers from individual emotional weaknesses and faults in intuition. Additionally, the adherence to contradictory theories can cause unique conclusions to be derived from identical thought experiments. Due to their falsifiable nature, theories in the natural sciences are purified constantly over time. During the transitory period between these paradigm shifts and scientific revolutions, conflict can arise because experts have to decide whether to align with the novel or the traditional approach. In the early 19th century, the science community experienced this with the clash between Mendel's Law of Inheritance and the previously accepted Theory of Pangenesis. Through his experiments with pea plants, Mendel concluded that "hereditary ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. History Of Science And The Natural Sciences In the last several years I have developed two main areas of focus: I am interested in the history of scientific diagrams (including maps) as a combination of the history of visualization and theories of representation, as well as in the more physical spaces of science, including natural history museums, hospitals, and laboratories. Since the last years of my undergraduate degree at Rice, I have been interested in the intersections of science and architecture. I completed my BA in two major fields – architecture and civil engineering – and thus have a firm background in both the humanities and the natural sciences. Outside of school, I gained experience in both architecture and experimental physics. At no time did I try to separate my practical training in either field from my more scholarly interests in their overlap, and I have continued this inter–disciplinary interest by constructing a dual PhD program at Harvard, enrolling in both the History of Science and History of Architecture & Urban Planning programs. (I will fulfill the course and general examination requirements of both departments, and write one dissertation. My committee will include professors from both fields.) One topic that particularly interests me is the development of American laboratories in the late nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Laboratories have existed in several contexts – from the work of individual inventors and corporate R&D to academic departments and governmental agencies – and their ... Lusby Western Governors University SST TASK 2: ARE CHILDREN TOO HASTILY BEING DIAGNOSED WITH ADD? A1 Twenty years ago children being diagnosed with Attention Deficit Disorder was not as common as it is today. Are children too hastily diagnosed with ADD? Most children diagnosed are being treated and even medicated. Children should not be medicated unless the symptoms cause a significant strain on their life or ability to learn. Significant adverse 2 side effects have been shown in children who are medicated for ADD, but the positive effects sometimes outway the side effects in true cases of ADD. Some... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What is the common environment of children being diagnosed with ADD? Do most children being diagnosed with ADD come from a home or attend school in a strict and structured environment? Are they "just being kids" when they are daydreaming or fidgeting or do they really have a problem that warrants treatment or medication? Many of the children being diagnosed are from the upper class or live in the suburbs so it seems that the 3 parents and teachers just want a "cookie cut–out kid". They want the child to always be on his best behavior. Children develop differently and some just need a little more time to mature. If ADD symptoms occur at home and school the child's temperament needs to be taken into account. The child may be younger therefore more immature than his classmates and this may cause the teacher to think he needs to be tested (Michigan State University, 2010). If the child's daily life is negatively affected it may be more than temperament, but it may not be ADD. Who has input in diagnosing children with ADD? Specialists must rely on parents and teachers to give information about the children's symptoms, but are the children just being unmanageable and unruly or do they truly have a problem? The specialist is given a list of the symptoms, but this is purely subjective. The parents have the most input since they are the ones mostly spending time with the kids, but teachers are also asked for input. Parents sometimes are manipulated by the ... • 10. The And His Understanding Of The Creation Through Dialogue... 3. Pannenberg's Theodicy and His Understanding of the Creation through Dialogue with Natural Science When creatures are created as finite beings, they gain their independence from God and other creatures. This is because we assume "the limiting of their own finitude by other creatures." Hence, their revolt against the limit of finitude in their relationships with God is also intertwined with their failure to be in peaceful unity with other creatures. On the contrary, the God–intended independence is to participate in the reality of the eschatological kingdom of God through the fellowship with God and that of love and justice among other fellow humans and creatures. For Pannenberg, if this is the case, then the independence of a creature cannot be identified as the necessary root of evil. Rather, the root of evil lies in "the revolt against the limit of finitude, in the refusal to accept one's own finitude, and [accordingly] in the related illusion of being like God." Evil is not necessary, but constitutes an inevitable condition of the finitude of creatures when they make free decisions. Therefore, God's free decision to create the world "carried with it the risk of a misuse of this creaturely freedom, or the "risk of the abuse of God–given freedom to conform to the reality of the kingdom of God." The independence of human beings is inseparably connected to the indeterminacy or contingency inherent in the evolutionary process of the cosmos. To be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Why Is Natural Science? Although it may be a subconscious process, it is inevitable that humans 'value' certain knowledge more than others – both on a personal level and more widely as a society or community. The titular statement insinuates that knowledge is endowed with value when it is produced with difficulty. However, there is a lot of ambiguity regarding both the concept of difficulty and value of knowledge. Possible stances with regard to the statement will be greatly influenced by the way difficulty and value is defined. As an initial starting point, difficulty will be defined and measured in terms of effort expended and the time consumed to produce the knowledge. Value of knowledge will be defined as the importance, worth or usefulness of the knowledge.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thereby, if we consider using sense perception to be an easy means of producing knowledge, then it follows that knowledge is easy to produce in Natural Science. Nonetheless, due to the knowledge having many practical applications, it is still valued despite the production process not being particularly difficult. Furthermore, defining difficulty in terms of effort has a shortcoming. From the perspective of someone who has an ocular impairment, producing the same knowledge about rates of reaction will be more difficult as they might not be able to see the colour change. This illustrates that defining difficulty in terms of effort and time leads to difficulty becoming a relative concept due to the subjective nature of effort– hence why my initial definition of difficulty is limiting. For a new definition, a more holistic view of the method of knowledge production in Natural Science must be taken. Obtaining empirical evidence using sense perception is only one step in the whole process. The observations must be interpreted using reason, which requires greater effort and time, as rigorous thinking is required. Perhaps the most difficult step is the first one: the proposal of either a new theory, hypothesis or prediction. This is difficult as the scientist must think out of the box in unconventional ways. They must question the validity of widely accepted theories. Thereby, a better definition for difficulty is the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Difference Between Natural Science And Social Science Above all else, the aim of science is to produce knowledge; that is, science aims to produce a set of verified statements about phenomena and their varying relationships. Scientists obtain this knowledge through a systematic procedure generally including identification, observation, description, classification, experimental investigation, and theoretical explanation of phenomenon. Of all that can be observed by science, there is understood to be two separate types of phenomena: natural (that which exists independently of human interaction) and social (that which exists only because of human interaction). As science primarily observes phenomena in order to gain knowledge, the sciences are consequently broken up into two divisions that independently study the two divisions of phenomena; the two divisions of science are thus natural science and social science. Furthermore, it is a common consensus in the scientific community that natural scientists "know" more than social scientists. Though seemingly derogatory, the phrase remains true as natural scientists indeed have more knowledge of the phenomena they study than do social scientists; this exists only as a result of four unique qualities of social phenomena as compared to natural phenomena. As all phenomenon that can be observed can be certainly divided into two categories, science as a pursuit to observe phenomena must consequently be divided into the two categories that separately study these. Natural phenomena is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When I was very young, my science teacher taught me Charles Darwin's evolution theory, and I never doubted that theory since Darwin is a well–known scientist and the authority in the field of biology. Until one day, I became a Christian; I need to accept another theory which is that human beings are created by God. My knowledge had a crash. I have never seen neither earlier species develop to human beings nor God creates human beings by using mud. That is when I started to question the knowledge that I have acquired from all the areas of knowledge. Why I am convinced by the theories? What do I or should I really believe? If natural sciences are the studies of non–living objects then in my opinion human sciences studies the most vigorous objects, the minds of human beings. • 14. Science And Bias In The Human And Natural Sciences 'The Ultimate protection against research error and bias is supposed to come from the way scientists constantly test and retest each others results' – To What extent would you agree with this claim in the natural and human sciences. Human beings are inherently flawed creatures. Through faults in reason and sense perception we interpret the world not as it truly is. Both the Human and Natural Sciences are tools to understand the world and are a lens in which to comprehend ideas not readily available to us purely through common sense logic and sense perception. The implications made in the title are that the inductive scientific method, when removed from error and bias, provides unequivocal and unobjectionable objective truth. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Assumptions in the title of this essay imply that results, theories and laws resulting from the current system of peer review multiple perspectives produce completely infallible objective truth, this is a false premise. Whilst the group of knowers known as the scientific community have collectively less bias than one lone knower trying to understand the universe, there is still collective and engrained level of institutional bias. The same problems of confirmation bias and expectation are present in a group of knowers just as they are with one single knower. According to Karl Popper (1902–1994) the best way to eliminate any expectation and confirmation bias was to falsify and disprove rather than confirm one's hypothesis and predictions. Popper argues: no matter how convincing an argument or theory is, all that is needed to disprove it is one piece of valid counterclaiming evidence. Whilst this theory is valid on an individual level, it really becomes an effective tool in the objectivity of science on a large scale. Despite this attempt at objectifying and 'protecting against' error and bias it is inadequate due to inherent flaws in the scientific method. Induction, moving from the specific to the general, is the key element in scientific logic. Any theory or law 'proved' through this logic has some key flaws: the main flaw being that inductive logic can never be certain of any event happening or of any prediction. • 15. How Ethical Judgments Limit the Arts and Natural Sciences Our ethical judgments will always limit us in gaining new knowledge in the arts and natural sciences. There are some methods that would work to uncover new information, but would go against ethical standards set by society such as animal and human testing. There is also the dilemma as to who should be able to access and view the information available. In art, a knowledge issue that arises is how do we determine what is appropriate for people to see? The innocent minds of children disappear when they are exposed to adult–like topics. Mature content needs to be censored in artwork that children can see. However, an artwork viewed by one may appear to be inapt and shameful, while another might see it as inspiring and creative. There is also street art that has no way of being censored since it is out in the open. Some may think it is vandalism while others find it to be works of art. There is no way to accurately determine what art is appropriate because we use perception when deciding if it is appropriate. Everyone perceives information differently so no two people will have the exact same views on what is appropriate versus what is not. However, some believe that people should be able to express themselves freely. They should not be forced to hold in their talent and imagination. People should be able to share their ideas for everyone to enjoy. However, the ethical judgments of society limit people's ability to do this because society attempts to censor explicit ... • 16. The Rise Of Natural Science Natural science has been historically recognised as one of the factors affecting the development of social science; particularly, during the period of the Enlightenment, natural science had been one of the factors to improve human life (Turner, 2001: 30). The Enlightenment is to help humans emerge from immaturity and this aim finds expression in Kant's motto "Dare to know" (Kant, 1784). During the period of the Enlightenment, due to the remarkable scientific advancement, traditional religion–based societies tended to come to an end and there occurred two revolutions particularly in Western Europe: the French Revolution and the Industrial Revolution. Owing to them, society had been radically changed in terms of politics and economy albeit new other problems had been brought such as job competition and capital–based societies, in other word, capitalism (Hossain and Mustari, 2012: 64; Gollin, 1970: 1). As a result, in spite of the end of the absolute monarchy, there still remained the inequality in societies. In that situation, the idea of 'positivism' was founded as an anti–enlightenment idea by Auguste Comte who was a French philosopher (Perry, 1993: 247). Positivism is a philosophical system developing laws for human organisation along with the same way as natural sciences. On the basis of this idea, Comte also established the term 'sociology' as one of the scientific fields, the 'science of society' (Giddens and Sutton, 2013: 11). In fact, Comte's idea had not been ... I will use a control of ice against air and test this next to ice in water, sugar on ice, salt on ice and Baking Soda on ice. By measuring the melting time of each element on an ice cube I will be able to tell which element affects ice's melting properties at what rate. Everyday we use chemical mixtures to melt ice that affects our roadways. A lot of these chemical mixtures are harmful to our waterways, and can pollute the environment. I ... Reasoning The purpose of this experiment is to measure the reaction of the ice melting when exposed to another solid element. The environment is a kitchen with a stable temperature and testing space. Repeating the tests three times will provide different data which will then be averaged for each element. For each test, calculate the percentage of the ice cube melted by [mass of melt water/initial mass of ice cube] x 100. Sequence of Events I started with controlling my experiment environment. It was in a still kitchen, with no appliances running to minimize humidity and control the room temperature. I then broke my ice cube tray and finding cubes that weight .10grams. I set up my timer for each station. I put three–.10gram ice cubes in a identical contained on top of the pre measured ВЅ teaspoon of sugar, salt and baking soda, then I hit start on the timer. When the timer hit 15 minutes I picked up each ice cube and put it on another dry identical dish. I then measured the melted liquid, followed by measuring the melted ice cube alone. The Historical Reasons Between Natural Science And Religion For hundreds even thousands of years since human formed their society and different ideologies, two invisible walls separate people from each other. The wall is more historic to be discussed is the one between natural science and religion, which people disagree with each other on the genesis of the world. According to most of history events, science and religion cannot get along with each other, the reasons relate to the historical reasons, the different method to measure the world, and the word faith. In the centuries of despotism by religion, people struggled, crept out of the chaos of mind, and then cleaned up their thought, finally entered the new era of natural science. Indeed, science and pure religion have a same target: to reach the truth. The Bible in the old age was reasonable for people to learn about the universe and anthropology. On the other hand, science, people apply it as a universal standard to discover the world and the universe, also called the Weltanschauung. Certainly, science represents the same spirit as religion. • 21. The Theory Of The Natural Sciences Knowledge, to me, can be defined as information that has been verified, either by self or by the group and is something that we know and believe. Information on the other–hand is not necessarily known by us as individuals, but nevertheless, it does exist. The sum of all information is therefore our total potential knowledge. This prescribed title not only implies that the only knowledge possible is "shared knowledge", but that knowledge itself is impossible for an individual to attain. This in turn discounts hunches, suspicions and theories–which are all seen as being forms of "personal knowledge". This title must be used in context for it to hold meaning. In context of the natural sciences, this title holds true as greater society is not so naive as to believe as fact the thoughts of a single man. But when the thoughts and ideas of a single man are put through a tried and tested method, such as the scientific method, tests are carried out, criticism is allowed and improvement is made, only then, with the relative evidence to back up this solitary man's claim, do we, the group, begin to accept his claim as "knowledge". On the other hand, knowledge of what we deem ethical and morally right, whilst we can gain this from interaction with the group, is not typically verified by the group, but rather is verified by ourselves, within our own heads. An important question to ask in conjunction with the prescribed title is "How does knowledge creation differ between areas of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

More recently, researchers have started to look at the keys to leadership from a natural sciences standpoint. The world is starting to understand that our views of leadership in organizations have to be consistent with the nature of the world outside. Richard Wielkiewicz and Stephen Stelzner go so far to say that the key to effectiveleadership is by looking at and having a fair representation of all perspectives, that includes an environmental perspective. They not only give assertions about leadership as a whole, but they also give criteria for looking at leadership from an ecological standpoint as to better understand it. In the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A third assertion says organizations are more adaptive when diversity of input is present. This is an easy statement to understand. If people with different backgrounds give input, there will be a wider range of thoughts and ideas. If an organization takes these diverse perspectives into account, they will be better able to adapt to changing thoughts and societal norms. The final assertion given is related to Wheatley's notion of new and old science. Wheatley suggests that old science is a mechanistic view that is no longer relatable and that her idea of new science is one that needs to be followed (Wheatley, 2006, pg. 15). On the other hand, Wielkiewicz and Stelzner say that instead of just rejecting old science, there should be a tension between the two approaches. One needs to find a resolution between the traditional "industrial approach" and the lesser known neglected "ecological approach". There are four ecological principles than can help explain organizational leadership. They are interdependence, open systems and feedback loops, the cycling of resources, and adaptation. By looking at each principle, one can relate it back to their organization and hopefully be able to integrate the things learned with previous notions in order to make leadership more efficient. Ethical Judgments in the Arts and Natural Sciences Ethical judgements are a very potent limiting factor in both the arts and natural sciences, and although these judgements are often times subjective to specific people or cultures, they are extremely beneficial. The exploration of these ethical judgements is vitally important in order to understand why exactly they are thought to limit the methods available in the production of knowledge in these areas, but must also be looked at with a fair and balanced perspective. To begin with, the definition of ethical judgements must be identified. Ethical judgements are "rules" provided by an external source about what is "right" and "wrong". Essentially, they are what society says are appropriate and sensible decisions. When it comes to the arts and natural sciences, ethical judgements are frequently used to determine if the product is to be commonly accepted or even permissible at all. Ethical judgements serve to limit the methods available in the production of knowledge in many areas, especially the arts and natural sciences, which benefits society in the long run. The arts have a plethora of examples that demonstrate the benefits of ethical judgements in order to preserve morality and dignity of the artists themselves. One specific example of this is the usage of animal furs and skins all in the name of a new pair of leather boots and wool sweaters. • 24. Human Science And Natural Science Disagreement may aid the pursuit of knowledge in the natural and human sciences because disagreement leads to new discoveries. Disagreement is about gathering reliable knowledge as well as using this newfound knowledge, and occurs when a group fails to reach a consensus over the logic of an argument. Knowledge is composed of facts, information, and skills acquired by a person through experience or education. Two areas of knowledge that are impacted by disagreement are human science and natural science. Human science is the study of human behavior and how humans gather information. Natural science is a branch of science that deals with the physical world. In order for a disagreement to occur, one must be familiar with the subject and have his or her own prediction that is different from the norm. Therefore, to advance knowledge in the areas of human and natural science, people must disagree. The roles of logic, reason, and emotion will be investigated to see how they are used to help gain new knowledge in both human and natural science. Many knowledge claims in human and natural science are based on theories. Jean Lamarck proposed the theory of evolution in 1801. The theory of evolution proposed by Lamarck was based on the idea that organisms had to change their behavior to survive. For instance, if a giraffe stretched it neck for a long period of time to reach the leaves as the top of the tree, then a "nervous fluid" would flow in the neck and make it longer. Thus, its ... If we were to divide that continuum into two parts, they would be before the enlightenment and after the enlightenment. The main difference between the natural philosophy and the science has come from the part of experiment. While science is empirical, natural philosophy is not. The power lies within science comes from the experiment part because it is undeniable. Moreover, there is another difference. In that, as Reeves (2008) states that the goal of natural philosophy is different than the modern science. Because, natural philosophers had no interest in prediction and control but rather general understanding of nature. Thirdly, place of religion in those two paradigms. As a matter of fact that distinction can be seen by looking at how they get separated from each other by enlightenment. Just before the enlightenment, the natural philosophy and religion were highly integrated in medieval Europe. They were not seen as different thing rather they seemed to be a part of the order of god. Interestingly, universities were helping that system. But there were some great thinkers who changed that perpetual cycle. However, that shift was occurred in an instant. It can be understood by glancing at some examples. I believe 'accepted knowledge' is that which has been tested whereby sufficient evidence has been collected to support certain knowledge claims. However, it is important to consider times when knowledge has been refuted. Despite strong belief that we possess objective facts, through research and technological progresses, such facts become re–interpreted in light of new evidence and discoveries. Personally, discarded knowledge refers to theories or laws being dismissed as new–found information proves more accurate. However, knowledge can also be amended as it is evolves. Knowledge is often discarded or amended due to technological progresses or changing social trends. Taking both a natural and a humanscience in IB, I feel that knowledge is more readily discarded in the natural sciences whereas in the human sciences knowledge is amended as certain theories evolve. This suggests that knowledge is not static hence leading to the main knowledge issue which will be explored: "To what extent is knowledge within the human and natural sciences provisional? In the natural sciences, theories may not be proven experimentally correct; however, it can be falsified through experimental evidence. The Relevance of Maps in Natural and Human Sciences In my opinion, a map is a representation of real life situations scaled onto paper, used to further explain, describe and simplify information. It can be in the form of a model, a diagram or an actual map showing features of the earth. When my Geography teacher in Form 4 taught the class about Population, we couldn't really grasp the concept of how to determine the stages of countries in terms of their birth rate and death rate, so he used the Demographic Transition Model that shows the stages of birth rate and death rate as well as population growth of countries to further explain the stages of development in countries, in relation to population. After his explanation of the model, 15 out of 17 students stated that they fully understood the topic as opposed to 5 out of 17 students in the class before the class was introduced to the model. This goes to show that the model successfully simplified the knowledge and aided us in further understanding the topic, thus proving its convenience only when it simplifies knowledge. If it wasn't used to simplify the knowledge, it wouldn't have been relevant in the situation. What I plan to do in this essay is to explore what it means to simplify knowledge as well as discussing the relevance of maps in two areas of knowledge; Natural Sciences and Human Sciences, as well as discuss the extent to which a map simplifies knowledge. Simplifying knowledge means breaking it down from a complex form to a form in which most people would ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Typically values for every individual differs which is why value in this sense leads to the unwanted study of behaviorism in political science research. It does also lead to interpretation. The difference between behavioral and interpretive studies is that behavioral study of politics would be to make an assumption and predict causes of certain phenomena's. Interpretative takes one's values and uses that to find a solution without so much jumping to a conclusion. Kuhn, Gunnell, Taylor, and Webber analyze the meanings of value and interpretation and how it affects social/ political science research and societies at large. Kuhn's "The Natural and ... "He claimed that there was no essential difference between theories and facts and that scientific theories, and the concepts they embodied, were fundamental claims about what existed and the manner of its existence."(The real revolution in political science, 47). This quote supports the idea that theories in political science are not constructions of the kind Kuhn Posited. "They are not basic reality claims that could ultimately be judged untrue in the manner..."(48) Unlike natural science, there is no need for a 3rd party and we come up with the concepts. On the other hand he argues that social sciences do not constitute to reality. There is already something out there that exists so in other words, it's not primary. If social science were to disappear, culture would still exist. Social science he argues is based on perspective whereas natural science will exist regardless. The natural science never changes only the concepts that are part of the particular topic in natural science change as time progresses. For example, elements on the periodic table have always had the same foundation. The way we made understanding of them over time is what changed. Frankly, when it comes to social science, it is fundamentally interpretive. There's already an idea that requires interpretation and doesn't define what's actually going on. There is more of a variety and on going study since interpretation is ever lasting and always changing and developing. Taylor in his piece ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. How Is Science A Natural Phenomenon Science, the study of natural phenomenon. As a science stream student, I would like to conclude that science is an indispensable subject in our life. It helps us to understand the process of a natural phenomenon and tend to enhance our life quality. At the past, we human used horoscope to determine direction such as North, East, South and West but nowadays we use a compass to determine direction. What has caused this improvement? It is scienceпјЃIn the world of science, there is specialisation such as biology, physics, and chemistry. From these specialisations, we can branch them into more fields such as medicine, engineer, ecologist and so on to contribute to our society. Thus, let us discuss how has science contributed to society today. First of all, science has improved our extend our living time. The study of biology has allowed us to know more about living things. For an example, we learnt the anatomy and physiology of human, animal and plant in biology. From this, we can clearly know the living things structure and chemical reactions which occur in its. We can diagnose out their disease when they fall sick and can relieve their pain. We also can know the nutrients which needed by the particular organism to maintain their health ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The study of chemistry has allowed us to achieve that. Let us look on the periodic table which invented by the chemist such as John Dalton, James Chadwick, Thomson Rutherford and other. We can know the chemical and physical properties of each element in the periodic table. With the knowledge of this, we can know the usage of the substance and use the substance without any wastage. For an example, we know the petroleum has a very low boiling point and can burn easily. Thus, we use it as raw material for the combustion process in machines to produce energy for movement. From the about statement, we can summarise that science has much benefited ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Genetic Engineering : The Science Of Replacing Natural Essay Genetic Engineering: The Science of Replacing Natural Selection and Evolution Consider the implications of the following: tomatoes are sensitive to frost, which shortens their growing seasons. Fish, in contrast, survive in very cold water. Scientists have found the specific gene that enables fish to resist cold in a flounder, and used genetic engineering to incorporate it into the genetic material of a tomato. By what moral authority does science have the right to make this transformation? In a life of technological advancement, human beings are faced with many ethical issues regarding the natural world. People have become capable of scientifically manipulating genes to create organisms that nature never intended to exist. Although scientists have the technology at their disposal, it begs the questions: Is it ethical to change living organisms to better satisfy our own needs? Do scientists know enough about the process of genetic engineering and the long–term effects of genetically altering a food supply, to determine if it is safe and environmentally sound? Many companies have made large profits on genetically altered produce. Tomatoes are bigger and corn is more golden. Consumers are happier. The government does not require that companies label their genetically engineered products. However, through regulation and knowledge, the government could be a crucial ethical force in controlling the impact of genetic engineering on industry and society. Genetic ...
