DESCRIPTION
The LE-140XTC is a twelve port GU high Ethernet plug-in module
for use with the MultiNet II modular, multi-media, multi-LAN smart
hubs. It allows standard UTP connectivity according to the IEEE
802.3 10BASE-T standard with LANNET's enhanced two way
diagnostic mechanism.
The LE-14OXTC permits user selectable connection to any one of
the four Ethernet LANs available in MultiNet enclosures. This
allows the coexistence of multiple independent Ethernet networks
within the same hub, reduces LAN congestion and provides
flexible bridging capabilities. A standalone mode is also available,
resulting in an independent 12 port segment. In addition to
supporting 802.3 10BASE-T transceivers, each port may also
provide direct hub to hub interconnection. Individual links may
exceed 100 m (520 ft). Used together with synchronous fiber
modules like the LE-140XTF, network diameters of over 4 km (2.5
miles) can be implemented.
The LE-140XTC has two user selectable modes of operation,
10BASE-T and 10BASE-T Plus. The standard 10BASE-T mode
implements full repeater functionality, with auto-partitioning and
receive link status test according to the standard. Partitioning of
faulty segments is activated automatically to prevent disruption of
the rest of the network.

2. The 10BASE-T Plus mode includes detection of transmit link
failures (along with all the features of the standard 10BASE-T
mode). The Plus mode is completely transparent to 10BASE-T
standard equipment. Switching between modes is done on board
or by Network Management.
The user can set the first two ports to be redundant to one
another, allowing fault tolerant network design. Link
communication will automatically switch over to the standby port if
the active link fails. Without redundancy the two ports function
independently. LAN redundancy automatically toggles the
module to a backup LAN preventing disruption of
communications by malfunctioning equipment.
The LE-14OXTC is manageable by MultiMan, LANNET’s SNMP
based Network Management System. This permits extensive
control, monitoring and administration of the module from the
remote management console. MultiMan offers performance and
event reporting to the port level.

When interconnecting hubs using LE-140XTC, an odd number of
crossovers is required on each link. No crossovers are needed on
links to transceivers
