2. PHANTASMAL
• Phantasmal means either a figment of the imagination or
disordered mind, or an apparition of a living or dead person.
• We felt that this could be a good name for our film as it sounds
like the word ‘phantom’ which links with the horror genre and
also because it’s meaning is highly relative to our plot as it is
about a group of friends who think they can see a dead
murderer.
3. OCCULT
• Occult means ‘mystical, supernatural, or magical powers,
practices, or phenomena’.
• This could be an effective name for our film as not only does
the word itself sound quite violent or as though something is
violently coming to a halt, the actual meaning itself is basically
everything supernatural and out of the ordinary which instantly
tells the reader the sub-genre of horror which the film will
come from, linking directly to the plot.
4. NUMINOUS
• Numinous means having a strong religious or spiritual quality.
• This is another strong idea for our film name as if someone
feels numinous they can almost sense something above nature
occurring which relates to our plot since the characters feel as
though there is something supernatural haunting them. Along
with this the word itself sounds like the word ‘moon’ which is
something mainly seen at night time, linking to how the events
in the film mainly occur at night.
5. SUMMARY
• For our film title we decided not to consult our target audience
but rather look at other real life successful film titles within the
genre as we felt that these would give us the best idea of what
is deemed as an interesting, effective film title. We found a lot
of film titles used strange words with a supernatural meaning
behind them which is why we decided on similar words to
these, and they also tended to sound quite bold and blunt,
linking to the genre of the film being horror.
