1. HOW DID YOU USE NEW MEDIA TECHNOLOGIES IN THE CONSTRUCTION
AND RESEARCH, PLANNING AND EVALUATION STAGES?
2. Technology was very useful throughout the entire development of my music
video. It helped in each through research, planning, construction to the
evaluation. The importance of these new media technologies available to me,
allowed for more creativity, therefore meaning the potential of my final
products were raised.
3. RESEARCH
Within the research and planning stages Google was
heavily depended on. This form of technology had a key
role in the overall creation of my music video and
ancillary texts as it allowed us to explore research and
gather relevant information on the music industry, artists
within it, genres and directors.
It allowed me to search questions and
receive answers from a variety of
websites. Not only this but Google
allowed me to look at artists‟ indie
artists website, which show images of
the artists allowing me to get an idea of
how to take photos in an artistic way.
4. RESEARCH
After this stage I started creating a
questionnaire for audience research. I made
the survey on www.surveymonkey.com
gathering information based on the research,
the questions were made to obtain information
which could be used to then start planning my
own music video.
It allowed me to search questions and
receive answers from a variety of websites.
Not only this but Google allowed me to look
at artists‟ indie artists website, which show
images of the artists allowing me to get an
idea of how to take photos in an artistic way.
5. PLANNING
Planning was key to the success of our video
and there were several technologies which I
used to insure I kept good time management
these included fixed technologies and portable
ones.
George Spencer Moodle was heavily
dependant on as it gave me the specific
dates which certain areas had to be on
blogger for.
6. PLANNING
The portable device in which I used was the Sony
Ericsson Xperia arc the phone allowed me to make phone
calls, view emails, take photos, review calendars and
keep reminders. The portable technology was particularly
helpful as it allowed me to keep up to date with the
schedules. As well as using technology to keep good time
management I also used it within the planning of the
music video.
I used a zooming presentation editor called Prezi
on my treatment for the music video this was an
effective way of presenting my work as it used new
media technologies to show my understanding of
what I wanted to achieve within the music video.
7. CONSTRUCTION
During the construction stages of my products capturing
the images and shots were vital; when we came to
filming our music video we used a Panasonic SDR
camera to shoot the shots within the video.
However soon after we‟d got the necessary
shots the school brought a cannon HD camera,
this would have made our shots a lot sharper
and clearer. As a group we discussed re-
shooting with the new camera however the band
„Saint Raymond‟ had a tight schedule and were
unable to shoot for our music video.
8. CONSTRUCTION
Once we had all the shots we needed to
edit them together, we did this through
the software called Adobe Premiere Pro.
Having knowledge of how to use this
software was very helpful to me and
editing the footage was simple and easy.
Certain types of editing I did was cutting
shots to make them shorter and adding
them into a sequence of similar shots to
make quick shots and jump shots.
9. CONSTRUCTION
Moving on from the editing of the music video we had to construct our ancillary
texts the magazine advert and digipack. For this we used Photoshop, software that
I was not familiar with. After getting past the basics of the program I was able to
create, edit and develop the two texts in imaginative ways, allowing me to
manipulate images with effects therefore creating a photo that would not have
existed in real life.
10. CONSTRUCTION
Such photos can be seen within my digipack in the
middle section. I edited the two separate pictures by
merging them together with the blur tool.
All of the images on the magazine advert
and digipack were taken from a Fujifilm
finepix j38.
11. EVALUATION
Finally in the evaluation stages various new media technologies were used to
present my evaluating comments. Four different questions needed to be
answered and I have used a variety of resources to present them.
For the first question I decided to present my answer through Prezi as the
software allowed me to show an interesting way of giving information without a
viewer becoming bored. The ease of creating a prezi was also a plus to the
technology, it an easy software to use and get to grips with the movement
between the paths makes it interesting for a viewer and the benefit of adding
pictures, videos, sounds, etc makes it a excellent new technology to use.
12. EVALUATION
I used a movie maker called Xtranormal for the second question. This allowed me to
create a fully-animated CG movie, making characters read out how I thought the
combination of my three products were effective was a completely new method for
me and believe worked well. The disadvantage of this type of new technology is that
I was unable to incorporate images into the video, however to overcome this made
the characters within the video refer to images I put underneath for example “we
were able to keep continuity between the three in subtle ways such as images, fonts
and colour. See image one”
13. EVALUATION
Other ways in which I have presented my work in new media technologies is
through videos of audience feedback, questionnaires via social networking sites
and word clouds to sum up what audiences thought of my three products.
14. OVERALL
Finally throughout the project blogger has been used to record all stages of work.
The site was good as I had the ability to combine all the technologies into
one, furthermore allowing me to do this gives the blog an overall interactive
feel. The evidence shown here on the various ways in which new
technologies have been used to create all the stages within my project it has
become evident that new technologies was fundamental in creating the music
video, magazine advert and digipack.
