Blood is a body fluid in humans and other
animals that delivers necessary substances such
as nutrients & oxygen to the cells and also
transports metabolic wastes products away
from the same cell.
Blood is composed of cells, cell fragments and
an aqueous solution called plasma.
It makes up about 8% of the human body
weight.

9. Leukemia (Blood Cancer)
A malignant progressive disease in which the
bone marrow and other blood-forming
organs produce increased numbers of
immature or abnormal leucocytes. These
suppress the production of normal blood
cells, leading to Anaemia and other
symptoms.

In USA 8-10 new cases/100,000 individuals
per year.
About 150 people die due to blood cancer
per day OR more than 6 people per hour.
19. Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML)
• CML is characterized by an uncontrolled clonal
proliferation of Myeloid cells.
• It accounts for 15% of Leukemia.
• It is a myeloproliferative disorder having
features in common with these diseases e.g
Splenomegaly.
• It occurs most often between 40-60yrs, with a
slight male predominance, and is rare in
childhood.
