13. ABOUT JATROPHA
The oil can be combusted as fuel without being refined.
By-products Are Press Cake A Good Organic Fertilizer,
Oil Contains Also Insecticide.
Medically it is used for diseases like cancer,
piles, snakebite, paralysis, dropsy etc.
15. CALTIVATION OF JATROPHA
Key Factors
1. Climate
2. Quality Of The Soil
3. Irrigation
4. Crop Density
5. Inter-cropping
16. CALTIVATION OF JATROPHA
Key Factors
Climate
Can Withstand Severe Heat.
Likes Heating And Doing Well In
Warmer Areas. When Cold Will
Drop Its Leaves. Optimum
Temperatures Are
Between 20˚C And 28˚C.
17. QUALITY OF SOIL
Best in sandy well-drained soils.
Can withstand very poor soils.
but the soil pH should be within 6.0 to 8.0
CALTIVATION OF JATROPHA
18. CALTIVATION OF JATROPHA
Irrigation
Does Not Require Lot Of
Water And Is Considered As
Drought Tolerant. Irrigation Is
Beneficial In The First Two
Months After Planting, Especially
If The Monsoon Is Delayed. It
Will Also Stand For Long Periods
Without Water - Up To 2 Years.
23. Pruning کٹائی کی شاخوں
To restrict the height of the plant and to
facilitate higher flowering, pruning is
advised during dormant months
(December–January), after the fruits have
been harvested.
During the first year of growth, plants
should be pruned at a height of 45 cm with a
very sharp knife or secateurs.
PRUNING OF JATROPHA
30. MAKE YOUR OWN JATROPHA OIL
PROCEDURE OUTLINE
Obtain the jatropha seeds.
Sun dry the seeds or roast them for 10 minutes.
Press the seeds to get the oil.
Purify the oil by using filters – very slow.
The purification process can be accelerated tremendously by boiling the oil with 20% water.
Use the oil in a diesel generator.

41. 1. Diesel and biodiesel are two products that can perform the same
function, but come from very different sources.
2. Both diesel and biodiesel can be used to fuel diesel vehicles, such as
cars, trucks, tractors, and powered lawn mowers.
DIFFERENCE B/W ORDINARY DIESEL AND BIO DIESEL
42. DIFFERENCE B/W ORDINARY DIESEL AND BIO DIESEL
ORDINARY DIESEL BIO DIESEL
• It is extracted from crude oil • Whereas biodiesel is extracted from plant, seed,
and animal oils
• Diesel comes petroleum, a non-renewable fossil
fuel byproducts
• Biodiesel is a renewable from of diesel made out of
biodegradable oils, such as soybean or peanut oil
• Diesel is evil • Biodiesel a miraculous, safe-for-the-environment
product
• In the burning process, diesel emits high levels of
soot and nitrogen, which translate into increased
air pollution, smog, and high concentrations of acid
in rainwater
• Reducing pollution, requires the diversion of food
crops into oil production
• Cost is high • Less cost
• High efficiency • High efficiency
44. ADVANTAGES OF JATROPHA PLANT
Jatropha Curcas plant used in the production of Bio Diesel
Jatropha Curcas is resistant to drought and can be planted even in the desert
climates
Jatropha needs minimal input or management
Jatropha has no inspect pests it is not browsed by cattle or sheep
Jatropha Curcas can survive long periods of drought
Jatropha Curcas growth is rapid; forms a thick live hedge after only a month's
planting
45. Jatropha Curcas plant, the leaf and the bark are used for various other industrial
and pharmaceutical uses
Jatropha curcas, also called physic nut, is used to produce the non-edible Jatropha
oil, for making candles and soap
The trees produce 1600 liters of oil per hectare
Cakes Remaining Used For Fertilizing, And Sometimes Even As Animal Fodder
The seeds can be used as a remedy for constipation, wounds can be dressed with
the sap, and the leaves can be boiled to obtain a malaria and fever remedy
Medically it is used for diseases like cancer, piles, snakebite, paralysis, dropsy etc.
