Urban Wastewater Treatment Plants ( Uwtps ) Essay
Abstract:
Visakhapatnam city has two Urban Wastewater Treatment Plants (UWTPs) in the city, located at 1
town and Mudasarlova (Arilova) village, Andhra Pradesh, India. These plants are planned and built
with an intend to oversee wastewater in order to minimize and/or expel organic matter, solids,
nutrients, disease–causing organisms, pollutants and different toxins, before it re–enters a water
body. The concentrations were assessed from two sewage treatment units; the largest STP situated at
1 Town with handling capacity of 38 MLD took after by Arilova STP of 13MLD capacity. It was
uncovered from the execution, examine that effectiveness of the two treatment plants was poor
concerning expulsion of total dissolved solids as rather than the evacuation in different parameters
like total suspended solids, BOD and COD. In 1 Town STP,TDS, TSS, BOD and COD removal
efficiency was 2.6, 97.71, 95.18, 80.54 % and respectively, while in Mudasarlova STP,TDS, TSS,
BOD and COD removal efficiency was 1.0, 90.89, 89.5, 75.18 % and respectively. The order of
decrease efficiency was TDS < COD < BOD< TSS and TDS < COD < BOD < TSS respectively in
1Town STP and Mudasarlova STP. Furthermore, the issues connected with the operation and
support of wastewater treatment plants is examined.

Uglies Scott Westerfeld Character Analysis
In the book Uglies by Scott Westerfeld, the character, Tally Youngblood, changes quite a bit. In the
beginning of the book, all Tally wants to do is become pretty and join her best friend in New Pretty
Town for endless partying, sleeping in, and being treated like Gods and Goddesses. However, when
Dr. Cable from Special Circumstances sends Tally on a quest that puts Tally's prettiness at stake,
Tally uncovers a horrifying truth about turning pretty, and her perspective changes completely. She
will do anything to keep herself, and the people she cares about safe from this disturbing reality. She
even gives herself up, to potentially save the lives of millions.
At first, Tally cannot wait to finally turn pretty and spend the rest of her life with Peris, having fun.
She finds life as an ugly meaningless until you turn sixteen, and undergo the operation that changes
your life forever. Tally even risks getting in serious trouble, and enduring loads of embarrassment by
sneaking into New Pretty Town, into the nicest mansion there, just to see Peris. "Tally pushed her

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Wastewater
Mostly, wastewaters are usually perilous and unhealthy for human beings, aquatic plants and
animals in addition to responsible for the deterioration of environment so it should be treated earlier
to its disposal into the aquatic medium and land surfaces. After secondary treatment of domestic and
agro–industrial polluted water still discharges large amounts of phosphorus and nitrogen. Such
increased percentage of nutrients leads to eutrophication of lakes, rivers, ponds and seas which also
leads to augmentation of algal bloom (Lau et al., 1997; Trepanier et al., 2002) and throwing away of
wastewaters produces a steady threat to fading of natural resources of fresh water on worldwide
(Montaigne and Essick, 2002). Under the extreme nutrients in the wastewater, such as ... Show more

The Ministerial Declaration Agreement And The Principle Of...
The Doha Ministerial Declaration spelled out a number of key principles and procedures intended to
inform the entire negotiation. First, the negotiations are to be conducted in a transparent manner that
facilitates effective participation of all parties, with a view to ensuring benefits to all participants
and achieving an overall balance in the outcome of the negotiations. Second, the negotiations and
other aspects of the work programme are to take fully into account the principle of special and
differential treatment for developing and least–developed countries. Third, the Committee on Trade
and Development and the Committee on Trade and Environment are to identify and debate
developmental and environmental aspects of the negotiations, in order to help achieve the objective
of having sustainable development appropriately reflected. Fourth, the negotiations comprise a
single undertaking, with the exception of work on the Dispute Settlement Understanding. Finally,
while there is a clear distinction in the Doha Ministerial Declaration between negotiations and the
work programme, issues covered by the latter are also to be accorded high priority, pursued under
the overall supervision of the General Council and reported on at the Fifth Session of the Ministerial
Conference in Cancún in September 2003. Members can invoke any of these underlying principles
and procedures at any time if they feel they are not being accorded adequate attention. One way of

Sanitation Technolog
INTRODUCTION TO SANITATION Sanitation is the hygienic means of promoting health through
prevention of human contact with the hazards of wastes as well as the treatment and proper disposal
of sewage or wastewater. Hazards can be either physical, microbiological, biological or chemical
agents of disease. Wastes that can cause health problems include human and animal excreta, solid
wastes, domestic wastewater (sewage, sullage, greywater), industrial wastes and agricultural wastes.
Hygienic means of prevention can be by using engineering solutions (e.g., sanitary sewers, sewage
treatment, surface runoff management, solid waste management, excreta management), simple
technologies (e.g., pit latrines, dry toilets, urine–diverting dry ... Show more content on

Solids Handling Primary treatment and secondary biological processes concentrate waste organics
into a sludge. Methods for processing raw sludge include anaerobic digestion and mechanical
dewatering by either belt–filter pressing or centrifugation. Conventional methods of disposal are
apllication as a fertilizer or soil conditioner on agricultural land, landfilling in a dedicated disposal
site, or codisposal with municipal solid waste. FOOD TECHNOLOGY Food processing Food
processing is the transformation of raw ingredients, by physical or chemical means into food, or of
food into other forms. Food processing combines raw food ingredients to produce marketable food
products that can be easily prepared and served by the consumer. Food processing typically involves
activities such as mincing and macerating, liquefaction, emulsification, and cooking (such as
boiling, broiling, frying, or grilling); pickling, pasteurization, and many other kinds of preservation;
and canning or other packaging. (Primary–processing such as dicing or slicing, freezing or drying
when leading to secondary products are also included.) Benefits of food processing Benefits of food
processing include toxin removal, preservation, easing marketing and distribution tasks, and
increasing food consistency. In addition, it increases

Is Nanotechnology A Field Of Applied Science?
Chapter 1
Introduction
1.1 Background
Nanotechnology is a field of applied science, focused on the design, synthesis, characterization and
application of materials and devices at the nanoscale. This is an emerging field which plays a major
role in the development of innovative methods to produce new products. Because of its greater role
in enhancing the performance of several existing technologies, it is gaining high attention.
Properties of materials often change dramatically when size reduces to nanoscale as compared to
that of bulk. Material made from nano–size particles that are smaller than 100 nanometers can
suddenly become much stronger than those predicted by existing materials–science models. There
are two main reasons for which materials property differ at the nanoscale. First, nanomaterials have
a relatively larger surface area when compared to their bulk material. Because of this, nanomaterials
are chemically more reactive and this will affect their strength or electrical properties. Second, at
nano scale quantum effects can begin to dominate which again affects the optical, electrical and
magnetic behaviour of materials[1,2,3].
Nanotechnology has offered solution for many problems associated with vast range of applications
in different field, such as in medicine, electronics, energy applications, industrial applications,
environmental science and many others. In medicine, nanomaterials are used for targeted drug
delivery, imaging and sensing applications. It is

Discrimination Based On Physical Appearance
Discrimination based on physical appearance, or lookism, has had a heavy impact throughout
history. For example, it is a common belief that John F. Kennedy's more favorable looks were a
contributing factor in his 1960 presidential win against Richard Nixon. To a lot of people, it may
appear that beautiful people have an unfair advantage in life. As a result of this belief, a world where
becoming beautiful is a rite of passage for all people seems to have an almost utopia–like quality,
but that is not the case in the dystopian novel Specials by Scott Westerfeld. This book is an excellent
reading choice to open the eyes of people who are under the false impression that physical
attractiveness makes a person superior, and for those who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Tally discovers one of these towns and makes an observation: "Without the lesions making everyone
agreeable, society was left rolling in a constant battle of words, images, and ideas." (Specials 229).
Despite the government's attempts to keep their citizens controlled, the people's conflicting nature
prevails.
Although the special surgery's goal is to make people perfect, Tally still walks away from it with
some major character flaws, one being how conceited she becomes. Being special means she
belongs to an elite group of people that are above the average citizen. This gives her feelings of
entitlement and warps her view of other people. Feelings of superiority effect not only Tally, but her
friends as well. Zane, her former boyfriend, falls prey to Tally's new–gained shallowness. Pity and
disgust replace her love for this crippled pretty. Even his touch repulses her, making her think to
herself, "She'd kissed him, let herself be touched by him – someone unspecial and barely average."
(166). Also affected is Tally 's best friend Shay, who cannot stand Tally 's new behavior. Shay
becomes so angry with Tally that tells her, "You don 't think you 're better than everyone else, just
that you 're the center of the universe." (293) Tally's weakness destroyed her romantic relationship
with Zane and broke up her friendship with Shay.
Fortunately, Tally recognizes the weakness within herself. She expresses to Shay that she

The Uglie Critical Analysis
According to Merriam–Webster dictionary, the word realization is defined as, "an act of becoming
fully aware of something as a fact." Being able to realize the ultimate desires and goals in life is
apart of each of the texts. In the book The Uglies by Scott Westerfeld, the story shows characters
realizing objectives through point of view when Tally Youngblood is faced with the truth about
getting an operation to become pretty. Likewise, in "The Third and Final Continent" by Jhumpa
Lahiri, the message of realization is developed through symbolism of the narrator's experience in a
new world. The theme as shown in "The Art of Resilience" by Hara Estroff Marano is expressed
through conflict. The use of point of view, symbolism and conflict create the theme, a person must
become self–aware to realize their goals, in the texts The Uglies by Scott Westerfeld, "The Third
and Final Continent" by Jhumpa Lahiri, and "The Art of Resilience" by Hara Estroff Marano. In The
Uglies, the lesson of becoming self–aware is communicated through the main character, Tally
Youngblood's, point of view. At first, Tally Youngblood longs to receive an operation to turn herself
pretty after being viewed as ugly most of her life. After she was denied the surgery because of
complications with a friend, she started becoming sensitive about the label given to her. The author
wrote, "She'd been an ugly for four years, but a few extra days had brought home to her exactly
what the word really meant"

The Ashley Treatment
The Ashley Treatment has been, and still remains, controversial. A statement written by Ashley's
mom and dad stated that "Ashley had a normal birth, but her mental and motor faculties did not
develop. Over the years, neurologists, geneticists, and other specialists conducted every known
traditional and experimental test, but still could not determine a diagnosis or a cause. Doctor's call
her condition 'static encephalopathy of unknown etiology', which means an insult to the brain of
unknown origin or cause, and one that will not improve."
The "The Ashley Treatment" is now a generic phrase coined in the health profession that refers to
growth–stunting procedures for children with severe disabilities. This name was given in reference
to a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is not clear whether or not the court would have stopped Ashley's parents from modifying her
body in the way they did. It seems likely that, at a minimum, the mastectomy would have been
delayed until it was clear that Ashley had in fact developed large uncomfortable breasts, something
that was merely speculative at the time of her surgery. It is certain, however, that imposition of
limitations and process in her case would have gone a long way toward reducing the risk that the
procedures caused Ashley more harm than any benefits they achieved. Obviously, time cannot be
turned back for Ashley, but future cases can and should be regulated more carefully (Ouellette,
2009). It has been more than five years since the Ashley Treatment but the topic is still very much
alive for a few reasons. One being, that the treatment is still being given (at least 12 given so far in
the U.S.), secondly because of the legal issues raised and thirdly due to the moral issues it raises. In
my opinion, the moral issues it raises are enough to oppose the treatment in itself.
The justification behind the parents giving their daughter The Ashley Treatment were to improve her
the quality of life by keeping Ashley from suffering from menstrual pain, and enabling her to
become more mobile due to her lack of weight and height. This argument also states that the lives of
the parents will be made easier in caring for their terminally disabled

7 New Approaches and Education for the Success of Decentralized Wastewater Treatment Systems
There is a common thinking in the academia and professional arenas that the solution to the
untreated wastewater discharges into our water bodies can be prevented or mitigated mainly with
the construction of wastewater sewer collection systems and wastewater treatment plants. Part of the
purpose of this research is to revisit and analyze the benefits of using decentralized wastewater
treatment technologies and evaluate the latest wastewater treatment technologies available.
7.1 Overview of Centralized Wastewater Treatment Systems Infrastructure
It is also of common knowledge that our nation's wastewater treatment infrastructure is widely
recognized to be in serious overhaul, if not outright replacement. (Crawford 2011). Also it is known
that wastewater management does not figure among the environmental legal and regulatory matters
that command public attention, despite the direct human and environmental health impacts of
wastewater infrastructure failures, to say nothing of the unsavory nature of ruptured sewage lines
and massive sewage spills, with their attendant harms for both land and water pollution (Crawford
2011). This is due to a lack of knowledge and education to the public concerning this serious threat.
A serious national wastewater treatment crisis is imminent. The need to address our wastewater
infrastructure deficiencies is urgent and not only for the centralized

Cable tells Tally, "'Then I'll make you a promise too, Tally Youngblood. Until you help us, to the
very best of your ability, you will never be pretty" (Loc 1309). After hearing this, Tally reluctantly
agrees to help Dr. Cable find Shay. This moment is important because it symbolizes weakness and
selfishness in human nature. Sometimes, we are willing to go against someone we love if it benefits
ourselves. Tally wants to be perfect so badly that she is willing to turn her friend in to the authorities
to get the operation she wants. Dr. Cable gives Tally supplies to get to the Rusties and a heart–
shaped locket that she is to activate when she finds Shay. Once Tally activates it, Special

Tally travels for several days and nights and finally gets to the Rusties. Shay is happy to see her, and
immediately introduces her to all of her new friends. These friends include David, a sixteen year old
that ran away from the surgery because he wanted to stay pure. When Tally meets him, she thinks to
herself, "He was an ugly, but he had a nice smile. And his face held a kind of confidence Tally had
never seen in an ugly before" (Loc 2180). David represents pureness and reality. In our world, we
classify someone as beautiful if they have exquisite features that are rare. In Tally's world, everyone

Personal Narrative : Personal Experiences
Today I was blindsided when Charlie Gordon, a student in my class for slow adult learners, asked
me out for dinner. Apparently, he has had a crush on me. When Charlie asked me, I wasn't so sure at
first. He's a really nice guy, but he is my student. I told Charlie to ask Dr. Strauss. Dr. Strauss said
that it was ok, so it was decided, I was going to dinner with Charlie because I did not want to be
rude. He seemed overly excited when Dr. Strauss and I said yes. He jumped and threw his arms in
the air as if he had just won Jeopardy. Charlie said to meet him at the Roadkill Café at seven o'clock.
As I was driving to the café I was getting nervous about dinner. I tried to get my mind off of that so
I focused on the beautiful, blazing, vibrant red, orange, and yellow colored sunset that brightly lit up
the horizon. When I got to the café Charlie was not there yet. Granted, I was early, it was about ten
minutes till seven. When I walked into the café and looked around and there was not a big crowd
there. I was not quite sure when Charlie was going to get there, but he showed up about three
minutes later. Charlie seemed quite nervous when he got there. We sat at a little two–person table in
the corner and waited for our waitress to come and take our order. When she got to our table she

Humanities Culminating Project Vaporwave is a microgenre of music started in the early 2010s
focused on deconstructing elements of 90s culture, consumerism, and nostalgia. It's name is a pun

The first track on the album, "B:/ Infinite Login" presents us with a representation of the internet: A
building resembling a Japanese temple textured with the Google search bar and the Wikipedia logo.
Nothing is inside except for a lone iPad, which we zoom into to find an abstract space of colorful
cubes. Sites like Wikipedia, Facebook, and Google all tend to feature "clean," minimal layouts. Like
a temple, this grants them a sort of sacredness, where it is impossible for anything to break this
static template. The websites become authoritative and dictate the user experience. We cannot
influence or modify them the same way we cannot change the structure of a building. And yet these
virtual buildings are inescapable. Like The Trial, we are powerless as user of a website to truly
understand anything about them. Attempting to contact a person who works at YouTube or
Facebook for help is nearly impossible, just like how Josef is unable to find out any information
about his own alleged crime. Additionally, it isn't just that websites alienate ourselves from them,
but we've also isolated ourselves from each other. More and more aspects of the Internet are

Kalamazoo Water Reclamation Plant
Wastewater treatment systems are very important to providing clean, drinkable water to its
surrounding societies. These systems also help in the removal of contaminants in wastewater from
household sewage, runoff, domestic, commercial and institutional units. Processes include physical,
chemical and biological manipulation of contaminants to neutralize their effects on the human body
for consumption. There are three main types of treatment, primary, secondary and tertiary, all of
which have separate units and processes that flow in an organized manner to ultimately end up with
recycled potable water.
First in primary treatment the sewage is temporarily held in a quiescent basin where heavy solids
settle to the bottom while other contaminants such as oil, grease and lighter solids float to the top.
Commonly used procedures involve bar screens with washer compactors that remove a majority of
non–fine solid material waste. Other airs is added to settle solids for grit removal. Fine screens as
also used to capture the finer waste material that flows through the primary larger hole bar screens.
They can often have two different sizes of bar screens that help in removing as much sold material
waste before moving onto secondary treatment. The finer screens are used to capture plastics that
come into the system.
Secondary treatment removes dissolved material and biological matter that is suspended between
the top and bottom of the tank. Secondary treatment involves the use of

Analysis Of The Book ' The Hunger Games ' By Scott Westerfeld
Freedom of choice, the transference of power away from and to the oppressed, and rebellion against
societal norms: these are some of the many ingredients of a book that hailed a new approach toward
writing, trailblazing a whole subgenre of fictitious works. This book, a book which will stand the
test of time, embodies the female struggle in an oppressive society. This book, Scott Westerfeld's
Uglies, will survive as it became a beacon in the new style of young adult dystopian novels with
female protagonists. This book, much in the same way that Charlotte Brontë's Jane Eyre inspired
writers like Jean Rhys to write Wide Sargasso Sea and Gilbert and Gubar to pen the first edition of

This name, while not as dehumanizing as Rochester's other signifiers of choice, diminishes Jane to
the level of a child, once again placing Rochester in a position of power over Jane.
The concept of naming as a tool to shape relationships is a time–tested literary tool, which in
addition to being employed in Jane Eyre, also features as a major discourse in Uglies. "Uglies' slang
is...ugly. It's all about giving people nicknames that highlights their ugliness–Skinny, Squint," the
difference between Uglies' use of naming and Jane Eyre's use of naming is that in Uglies the young
adults impress upon each other these oppressive names rather than a more privileged individual
bestowing the names, which lower their own self esteems(Wilkinson 10). This tactic of encouraging
self–depreciating names is a practice which internalizes the need in the young citizens to live for the
day in which they turn sixteen and can be "reprieved" of their undesirable traits, their skinny frames
and squinty eyes. Stylistically, the two books can be compared on the use of character foils to
indirectly characterize the main protagonist; character foils, a subtle, indirect characterization
formed by comparison of characters, appears in the foil of Jane Eyre and Bertha Rochester and the
foil of Tally Youngblood and Dr.Cable. In The Madwoman in the

The Discrimination Is An Unfair Treatment For A Ethnic...
The discrimination is an unfairly treatment to a particular ethnic group based on their own special
conditions. It includes 4 main forms – the directly, indirectly, harassment and victimisation. The
direct discrimination is pretty straightforward, which happens when someone dealt with the
situation unfairly based on one of the grounds and in one of the areas covered by the action. The
indirect discrimination is usually less obvious than the direct form. It is usually the rules or policy
that applies to everyone, which seems fair. However, the rules puts people who with the relevant
protected characteristics at a particular disadvantage. Both direct and indirect discriminations are the
forms of the employment discrimination that treat people unfairly based on some particular grounds.

After the officer finishes and declares that you are driving under the influence you are charged with
DUI and placed under arrest. A DUI arrest can lead up to at least 6 months in county jail, $500 to

up to a year. and sentencing gets tougher if there is a minor in the vehicle with you(Tager Law Firm)
. Now what do you think happens when a celebrity is charged with DUI, same laws should apply but
the truth is it does not. Many have been the cases that involves a celebrity in a DUI and they get
away with ridiculous reasons, such as Khloe Kardashian served less than three hours of her 30 day
sentence for overcrowding reasons. I am well aware of the overcrowded jail problem, but I refuse to
believe that she was next in line to be released(people.com). Not only some of these celebrities

punishable by law and yet you can see them missing them all the time. why is this not enforced,

sometimes it really seems like one. Makes one if all it takes is an autograph and a picture to get off

Water Pollution
2.1.2 Industrial use Industrial water consumption makes up 22% of global water use. In 2009,
European and North American industrial water use accounted for half of their total water use,
whereas in developing nations industrial water use ranges from 4–12% of national water use [10].
As industrialisation in developing nations increases, industrial water use could potentially increase
by a factor of 5, strongly increasing pressure on water resources [10]. Wastewater can be reused
within the industry producing it or between several industries through 'industrial symbiosis' [11].
2.1.3 Agricultural use (Irrigation) Wastewater reuse for agricultural purpose, which constitute about
70% water usage, reduces stress on water resources. The use of wastewater for irrigation is a
common practice in rural and peri–urban areas of most developing countries. Even in areas where
other water sources exist, small farmers often prefer wastewater because its high nutrient content
reduces or even eliminates the need for expensive chemical fertilizers [12]. Farmers are increasingly
considering non–conventional water resources, mainly wastewater, either due to its high nutrient
content or lack of conventional water resources [11]. If applied safely, wastewater is a valuable
source of both water and nutrients, contributing to water and food security and improved livelihood.
Reclaimed water was used for golf course irrigation, construction projects, dust control, and soil

Dana Gioia Special Treatments Ward Poem Analysis
An Analysis of Dana Gioia's Special Treatments Ward
Poetry can be used as an outlet for many different emotions; whether that be heartbreak, happiness,
love or sorrow. Dana Gioia decided to write a poem called Special Treatments Ward, and with it, she
expressed raw and relatable emotions about a topic not many people dare to speak about. I believe
it'll evoke strong feelings from a wide range of readers. This test does not give background
information about this poem other than the title and who it was written by. There is no identifiable
form in this poem. However, there are still patterns to be found. This poem contains 3 stanzas and
has 7 lines each, making it 21 lines long. This poem has an open form, containing several end
stopped lines. Another noticeable pattern is that despite the end stopped lines, there are full
sentences formed and proper capitalization at the beginning of the sentences, and periods used at the
end of them. Rhymes are used in this poem, however, it does not have a specific rhyme scheme
pattern. It has the inconsistent pattern of ABBCDEF/BEGEEHH/IIFIJKK. The speaker in this poem
could be argued to be non–participant, however, use of the pronouns "we" and "our" in the last
stanza show that the speaker could indeed be a participant. The speaker first handedly describes
what's taking place in the poem, which is another reason why I believe the speaker is a participant.
The point of view of the speaker seems to be someone observing the setting and

The At The Atlantic Eyrie Lodge
This past season, 2016, at The Atlantic Eyrie Lodge it was an exceptional year! Profitability this
past season was above all the last eight years, bringing in profits of over 1.25 million dollars. With
this exceptional staff returning for the 2017 season, we feel profits of 1.5 million for the 2017
season is within reach. We had more "Full House" nights in October of 2016, than we did in the
whole season of 2015. Our goal for the 2017 season will be to average one "Full House" every week
we are open for the season, for a total of 26 nights of having a "Full House". To help achieve this
goal we will be targeting the middle–class families and people who travel with their pets.
We will have a $50,000 marketing budget for the 2017 season and this plan will outline the areas the
funds will be spent, how they will be spent and who we will be marketing too. Some of the funds
will be used to expand our marketing potential and some will be used to market that potential. Some
funds will be used in new ways while others will be expanding older marketing elements that are
already in play.
The location of the Lodge has a long withstanding history within the Bar Harbor area with an
excellent view of the harbor that also faces east to view the extortionary sunrise. We will be
capitalizing on this when targeting the middle–class families and guest with pets. Along with the
promoting our family and pet friendly environment. Our marketing plan will include making our

Character Analysis Of Tally Youngblood
Dynamic Character: Tally Youngblood The Uglies is a dystopian novel about a young girl living in a
futuristic society with a very controlling government. Scott Westerfeld's character, Tally
Youngblood, is the protagonist of his novel. Tally changes and progresses as her story is told,
making her a very dynamic character. As you read you discover that she an adolescent who is selfish
and will do anything to become a "Pretty", but as her story goes on her traits change from a selfish,
immature, and outspoken girl to a brave, mature, and caring young woman. Tally Youngblood's
characteristics alter so much due to being forced onto a journey into foreign land to sell out her
friend or else her dream of becoming a "Pretty" will never come true. "Dynamic is a constant
change, activity, or progress" (Google Dictionary). This word describes Tally Youngblood perfectly.
In the novel the Uglies, Tally is a constant evolving character. In the beginning chapters, she
expresses how much she wants to become a "Pretty" to anyone who will listen. She is very stubborn
and knows exactly she wants; therefore, she will not let anything get in the way of that, even if that
means selling out her best friend. Tally is an immature girl causing trouble and play tricks in the first
half of the novel, but her traits change once she is put into a position where it is either Dr. Cable's
way or no way. She is alone braving the dangers and elements on her journey outside the city and
into the Smoke. She becomes more brave and intelligent. Tally's journey causes her to mature and
realize that not everything is about becoming a "Pretty". Tally Youngblood is so dynamic because
she progresses and changes throughout the entire novel. Scott Wersterfeld's character, Tally
Youngblood, has such a diverse personality to accommodate with the society she grew up in. Tally
grows up in a futuristic society with a government that trains you to hate yourself, because of this
society she grew up immature, selfish, and self–absorbed. All the "uglies" are not supposed to want
to stay ugly because the one life goal they are intended to have is to become a "Pretty" and that is it.
Tally's diversity kicks in when she is challenged and has to put her dream to

The Importance Of Hypocrisy And Special Treatments
You don't know but you've been told: start a family when you get old...enough even if you have to
do it too soon. It seems so evolutionarily natural that most would be ashamed to admit they ever
needed to take a class about it, and this includes the ones who never do. You may wish it's as easy as
shouting "jump" and hearing "how high," but kids don't want to feel like weirdos in their
environment. Sooner or later, down the line, parents will be forced to earn and sustain the respect of
their sons and daughters as opposed to simply assuming or demanding it. One of the crucial ways to
achieve this is by establishing rules and expectations that are equally delegated among all family
members, and having them consistently and persistently ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What someone spends a lot of time practicing in childhood, whether it would be academics or
simply watching television, tends to dictate what they will be well–suited to perform when matured.
It's easy to conclude that diversity in activities is important to development. The time children have
to spend on computers (any kind, including smart phones) must be limited to a reasonable degree,
and parents must unfortunately do the same for themselves in order to set a clear example (this may
be hard to do since friends may expect instant communication through texting). Three aspects of
computation that should be regulated with children are, social media, smart phones, and
entertainment. The technical minimum age limit for a child joining social media is supposed to be
thirteen because of the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) which prohibits
companies from collecting certain information about children younger than this limit. But more than
half of kids have already joined something by age ten. Kids don't really need social media, but the
only reason to let them utilize it is because other kids are too. When it comes to social media within

Character Analysis Of Tally's 'Uglies'
Beautifully Asleep; Hideously Awake As adolescents progress toward adulthood, a drastic
reformation of both mental affect and moral worldview is commonly experienced. Scott Westerfeld–
in his novel Uglies–illustrates this commonality of human experience through that of Tally
Youngblood, his societally divergent protagonist. The pivotal moments that signify her gradual, yet
distinct moral development are clearly defined in specific segments of text. Moreover, the actual
structure of the novel concretely separates the definitive changes in Tally's moral worldview. It is
through these phases that the Uglies protagonist's character develops from being a slave to society's
imposed norms, to a questioning skeptic, and finally to a self–actualized individual with sound
motives and personal passions. In "Pretty" society, a clearly defined hierarchy exists between
"Littlies", "Uglies", "New Pretties", "Middle Pretties", and "Late Pretties". At age 16, each "Ugly"
member of society undergoes an appearance altering operation to become "Pretty" on the pretense
of social homogeneity. Tally begins her story as a stereotypically trouble–making Ugly, who–apart
from "tricks"–adheres to her society's laws and norms. On one particular excursion–a trick in which
she infiltrates New Pretty Town–Tally makes contact with Peris, an adolescent love interest that
turned Pretty before her. Their dynamic exemplifies Tally's societally conditioned sense of
inferiority, clearly represented by the

Ready made window treatments are mass produced, prefabricated treatments that can be easily
found at most major retailers, discount stores, and a large number of catalog and online stores. This
makes them easily accessible and convenient allowing them to be brought home and hung the same
day for instant gratification. Custom made treatments are a little more involved than driving to a
store and taking the window treatments home. The homeowner will have to decide if they are going
to hire a professional designer or recruit the help from an associate at a retail store that specialize in
custom made treatments. The whole process can take months with more decisions to be made and
time to make them. Another thing a homeowner will have to consider is the size and shape of a
window. Ready made draperies will be available in a limited number of lengths the most common
being eighty four and ninety six inches long which would mean that these would not work well for
taller windows where the draperies would not be long enough to touch the floor. Most ready made
panels are offered in only one width which is usually only sufficient to close over a thirty six inch
wide window or smaller or would be fine if they were meant to be stationary. If a wider width is
desired, multiple panels that are not sewn together would have to be purchased. When pursing the
custom avenue one would find out that custom window

Ashley's Ethical Dilemma
Ashley is a six and a half years old child with "static encephalopathy." Her parents request a
hysterectomy (to prevent menstruation), surgical removal of nascent buds (to prevent development),
and estrogen therapy (to speed up the natural closure of her growth plates). The ethical dilemma is
whether these procedures should be done on Ashley based on the parents' request. There are no legal
or professional standards for this. By adhering to the parents' request, the physician would be
eliminating menstrual pain. The estrogen therapy would stop Ashley from growing taller. This
would make Ashley more portable and will make it easier for the parents to take care of her. Also,

taking a Look at Wastewater Treatement
Wastewater Treatment It is hard to imagine that the planet earth could possibly be experiencing an
epic crisis of water deficiency. The earth is made up of 75 percent water. Why, if water is in such
abundance, is it such a precious commodity? Some countries have begun to ration water, while
others act as if there is an endless supply. The numbers are very deceiving, simply because the water
that is in such short supply is fresh water, which is crucial for all aspects of life. According to
Wright and Boorse (2005) "About 97.5% of all water is the saltwater of the oceans and seas. The
remaining 2.5 percent is freshwater–water with salt content of less than 0.1 percent. This is the
water on which most terrestrial biota, ecosystems, and humans depend. Of the 2.5 percent, though,
two–thirds is bound up in the polar ice caps and glaciers. Thus, only 0.77 percent of all water is
found in lakes, wetlands, rivers, groundwater, biota, soil, and the atmosphere. On a global level the
largest amount of water is used for irrigation, nearly 70 percent, while industry uses 20 percent and
actual human use is 10 percent." (page 240) Healthy aquatic ecosystems are essential providers of
food and several other important bi–products necessary for life. The world currently faces a water
crisis, both of amount and purity, caused by a surge in world population, food production practices,
living standards, and industrialization. Improvements in wastewater management have had a vital

The Effects Of Fracking On The Uk Essay
Introduction:
In recent years, fracking changed the world. Suddenly an incredible amount of newly exploitable oil
and gas became available. It led to an American boom in the oil industry but it also raised many
environmental problems. In this abstract the fracking effect on ground and surface waters will be
discussed in the light of U.S cases; and potential effect of fracking on the UK in the future.
There two types of water pollution depending on their source, direct and indirect.
Direct sources include pollutant which is emitted from the localized anthropogenic source, for
example spillage from factories or waste water treatment plants.
Indirect sources of water pollution from precipitation. Indirect pollution is difficult to evaluate due
to its complexity, therefore in this abstract the focus will be on direct pollution of fracking. The
subject of this abstract is the evaluation of different aspects of fracking; water withdrawal, chemical
mixing, well injection, produced waters and wastewater in terms of their effect on surface and
groundwaters.
Water withdrawal
In the process of extracting shale gases, in the stages of drilling and fracturing a large volume of
water is required. A study Marcellus Shale, and Barnett shale in the U.S was aimed to see how water
withdrawal during fracking can affect drinking water quantities. Even though In the U.S hydraulic
fracturing uses billions of gallons of water every year, it is less than 1% of the total water
consumption, so

Case Study: Sell V. United States
ARGUMENT
At stake is Mr. Whitman's 4th Amendment liberty, which Sell was implemented to protect. In order
to safeguard the liberty interests of sick defendants in Sell, the Supreme Court implemented four
factors that the government must establish before it may forcibly medicate sick defendant to render
the defendant competent to stand trial (citation needed). First, it must prove that an "important
government interests are at stake." Second, it must establish with clear and convincing evidence that
the "involuntary medication will significantly further" those interests. Third, the government must
demonstrate that "the involuntary medication is necessary to those interests." Fourth, it must
demonstrate that the "administration of drugs is medically appropriate." Sell v. United States, 539

Themes In Scott Westerfeld's Uglies And The Third And...
Imagine if an individual conquering his/her largest challenge presents one with an incredible
reward. Surprisingly, this idea is shared between three uncommon literature works. Within Scott
Westerfeld's Uglies, the main character, Tally Youngblood, triumphed through an exhausting and
tough journey to a place that leads her to learn about self–worth. Furthermore, The Third and Final
Continent describes the narrator, Jhumpa Lahiri's, adventure of his life through three continents and
poor living conditions during that time resulting in Jhumpa Lahiri finally finding a value in life. In
Rudyard Kipling's poem, "If", the audience witnesses if statements that express if someone conquers
the troubles in their life, the world will be theirs. Incredibly, among three unlike compositions, a
common theme, overcoming obstacles and being honored with a sentimental reward, is conveyed
through plot, cause and effect, and characterization. Between Uglies and The Third and Final
Continent, the moral surpassing struggles and receive an award is displayed through the literary
device, plot. For justification, both storylines included developed characters, an exposition, a
descriptive setting, one or multiple conflicts, necessary rising and falling actions, an intense climax,
and a resolution. As evidence, Tally, from Uglies, defeated her rough trip to her destination and
enjoyed her freedom as she "fell into the routines of the Smoke" (Westerfeld 218). Generally,

The Industrial Waste Management Practices
INTRODUCTION:
Huge plants which operate in the industry of light, chemicals and other heavy industries, although
providing substantial employment and improving the economy, contribute to a lot of aquatic
pollution . Unless the industrial waste management practices are regulated and monitored for
sensitive water bodies around them, they pose a significant contamination risk. Locating a
resourceful site, providing facilities along with industrial waste and operational management
practices are needed to minimize this risk.
The most commonly affecting industrial waste includes petroleum hydrocarbons, heavy metals,
surfactants, toxins and/or salts, which pollute surrounding water bodies, making them unsuitable for
most of the water needs and harming the aquatic life therein. Algal blooms and oxygen deficit are
the result of excessive nutrients found in the waters.
Industrial wastes are also known to pollute underground water too which increase the cost and risk
of cleaning/treating sewage. Industrial pollutants such as oxygen scavengers may corrode pipes and
equipment in the sewerage collection system and in treatment plants. Greases and suspended matter
can cause pipe blockages and odors.

Evaluation Of The Treatment Of Wastewater Essay
CHAPTER 2
LITERATURE REVIEW
2.1 GENERAL
The disposal of untreated wastewater coming from the industries into the water bodies will pollute
the water bodies because of its high concentrations. So, the wastewater produced from the industry
should be treated properly to meet the permissible limits given by central and state pollution control
boards. Therefore it is necessary to treat the wastewater properly with the help of an appropriate
treatment plant. However, the treatment plant even though properly planned may not work
satisfactory because of several reasons. Hence, it is essential to evaluate the treatment plant
considering individual treatment unit in the entire treatment flow. In the present work emphasis has
been given to the study of the performance of treatment facilities because of its importance in the
conventional treatment of wastewater. Hence, the literature review related to the evaluation of the
entire treatment process along with biological treatment process particularly suspended growth
process Activated Sludge Process (ASP), attached growth process Trickling Filter (TF) and a
combination of the both suspended and attached growth process Hybrid Reactor (HR) is presented
in the following sections of this chapter.

Reading And Writing On My Life
If I said that reading was important to me right now, I would definitely be lying. I can't sit down for
extended periods of time and enjoy a good book like I used to. When I was in elementary school,
and even when I was going into high school, I was never seen without a book. When I was younger
I could finish a new book every single week. But it was very easy for me to fall out of love with
reading as I was being introduced to new technologies. It started with a Nintendo Wii. Sometimes I
find it difficult to admit that I even owned one, but the best way to get over embarrassment is to talk
about it right? Never the less, it was the beginning of the end of my love for reading. My earliest
recollections about reading and writing were very enjoyable for me. Reading had a huge impact on
my life. In a way, I guess you could even say that some of these experiences made me as literate and
knowledgeable as I am today. It was the first time in my life that I can truly remember feeling
genuinely good about myself. A while after I had gotten a Nintendo Wii, I got my first cell phone. It
was a Nokia. Obviously it was nothing special, but at the time it was extremely useful and I loved
having it around. I then moved on to own an HTC and now an IPhone. And not long after I got my
IPhone, I bought a Playstation 4, an Xbox 360, and a Playstation 2. I honestly believe that
technology was the main reason I stopped reading. Now that I have been out of the habit of reading

Becoming pretty and the operation itself represents alcohol, and the lesions, alcoholism. Scott
further explores this link through the two most prominent characters, Tally Youngblood and her
friend Shay.
Tally Youngblood cannot wait to turn sixteen and get the operation that will turn her from an ugly
into a pretty, where she can move into Pretty Town and worry only about having fun. However, her
friend Shay decides she would rather stay ugly and runs away before she gets the operation herself.
The authorities – known as Specials and led by Dr. Cable – tell Tally that she can either find Shay
and bring her back or stay ugly forever. Initially choosing to bring Shay in, Tally realizes that she
was sent not just to find Shay, but an entire settlement of people who decided to stay ugly, dubbed
the Smoke. It is there that she also learns about the lesions, and armed with this knowledge decides
to turn her back on her old dreams of turning pretty. It is unfortunately too little too late though, and
the Specials come and destroy the settlement. The Smoke itself lives to fight another day, but Tally
and Shay are taken back to their city and made pretty.
In the second book, Tally is living it up in Pretty Town. She hangs out with her friend Shay and a
new gang called the Crims in a constant world of partying. Tally is not sure she is Crim material
though; she constantly feels echoes of discomfort with her life as is. The story then takes a sudden

Chemical Pollution
Biological, Chemical, and Physical Agent
Water pollution is caused when water contains excessive amounts of biological agents &
microorganisms, such as bacterial species, viruses, worms, and/or algae. This type of pollution is
caused by decaying organic material in water, animal wastes, as well as improper disposal of human
wastes. Chemical pollution is defined as the presence or increase in our environment of chemical
pollutants that are not naturally present, or are found in amounts higher than normal. Most of the
chemicals that pollute the environment are man–made, resulting from the various activities in which
toxic chemicals are used for various purposes. The impacts are normally identified with the
introduction to high measures of chemicals. Chemical contamination prompts different valid
sicknesses, by and large by devouring toxic food, drinking exceptionally tainted water, or breathing
poor quality air.
Sewage Treatment Septic systems and advanced onsite wastewater treatment technologies rely on
soil to treat sewage and sanitary wastewater (EPA, 2017). Sewage is the term utilized for wastewater
that regularly contains excrement, pee, and clothing waste. There are billions of individuals on
Earth, so treating sewage is a major need. Sewage transfer is an issue in developing countries and a
large number of individuals in these territories don't have access to sanitary conditions and clean
water. Untreated sewage water in such territories can degrade the earth and

Urban Wastewater Treatment Plants ( Uwtps ) Essay Abstract: Visakhapatnam city has two Urban Wastewater Treatment Plants (UWTPs) in the city, located at 1 town and Mudasarlova (Arilova) village, Andhra Pradesh, India. These plants are planned and built with an intend to oversee wastewater in order to minimize and/or expel organic matter, solids, nutrients, disease–causing organisms, pollutants and different toxins, before it re–enters a water body. The concentrations were assessed from two sewage treatment units; the largest STP situated at 1 Town with handling capacity of 38 MLD took after by Arilova STP of 13MLD capacity. It was uncovered from the execution, examine that effectiveness of the two treatment plants was poor concerning expulsion of total dissolved solids as rather than the evacuation in different parameters like total suspended solids, BOD and COD. • 3. Uglies Scott Westerfeld Character Analysis In the book Uglies by Scott Westerfeld, the character, Tally Youngblood, changes quite a bit. In the beginning of the book, all Tally wants to do is become pretty and join her best friend in New Pretty Town for endless partying, sleeping in, and being treated like Gods and Goddesses. However, when Dr. Cable from Special Circumstances sends Tally on a quest that puts Tally's prettiness at stake, Tally uncovers a horrifying truth about turning pretty, and her perspective changes completely. She will do anything to keep herself, and the people she cares about safe from this disturbing reality. She even gives herself up, to potentially save the lives of millions. At first, Tally cannot wait to finally turn pretty and spend the rest of her life with Peris, having fun. She finds life as an ugly meaningless until you turn sixteen, and undergo the operation that changes your life forever. Tally even risks getting in serious trouble, and enduring loads of embarrassment by sneaking into New Pretty Town, into the nicest mansion there, just to see Peris. • 4. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Wastewater Mostly, wastewaters are usually perilous and unhealthy for human beings, aquatic plants and animals in addition to responsible for the deterioration of environment so it should be treated earlier to its disposal into the aquatic medium and land surfaces. After secondary treatment of domestic and agro–industrial polluted water still discharges large amounts of phosphorus and nitrogen. Such increased percentage of nutrients leads to eutrophication of lakes, rivers, ponds and seas which also leads to augmentation of algal bloom (Lau et al., 1997; Trepanier et al., 2002) and throwing away of wastewaters produces a steady threat to fading of natural resources of fresh water on worldwide (Montaigne and Essick, 2002). • 5. The Ministerial Declaration Agreement And The Principle Of... The Doha Ministerial Declaration spelled out a number of key principles and procedures intended to inform the entire negotiation. First, the negotiations are to be conducted in a transparent manner that facilitates effective participation of all parties, with a view to ensuring benefits to all participants and achieving an overall balance in the outcome of the negotiations. Second, the negotiations and other aspects of the work programme are to take fully into account the principle of special and differential treatment for developing and least–developed countries. Third, the Committee on Trade and Development and the Committee on Trade and Environment are to identify and debate developmental and environmental aspects of the negotiations, in order to help achieve the objective of having sustainable development appropriately reflected. Fourth, the negotiations comprise a single undertaking, with the exception of work on the Dispute Settlement Understanding. Finally, while there is a clear distinction in the Doha Ministerial Declaration between negotiations and the work programme, issues covered by the latter are also to be accorded high priority, pursued under the overall supervision of the General Council and reported on at the Fifth Session of the Ministerial Conference in Cancún in September 2003. Members can invoke any of these underlying principles and procedures at any time if they feel they are not being accorded adequate attention. One way of taking a schematic ... • 7. Is Nanotechnology A Field Of Applied Science? Chapter 1 Introduction 1.1 Background Nanotechnology is a field of applied science, focused on the design, synthesis, characterization and application of materials and devices at the nanoscale. This is an emerging field which plays a major role in the development of innovative methods to produce new products. Because of its greater role in enhancing the performance of several existing technologies, it is gaining high attention. Properties of materials often change dramatically when size reduces to nanoscale as compared to that of bulk. Material made from nano–size particles that are smaller than 100 nanometers can suddenly become much stronger than those predicted by existing materials–science models. There are two main reasons for which materials property differ at the nanoscale. First, nanomaterials have a relatively larger surface area when compared to their bulk material. Because of this, nanomaterials are chemically more reactive and this will affect their strength or electrical properties. Second, at nano scale quantum effects can begin to dominate which again affects the optical, electrical and magnetic behaviour of materials[1,2,3]. Nanotechnology has offered solution for many problems associated with vast range of applications in different field, such as in medicine, electronics, energy applications, industrial applications, environmental science and many others. In medicine, nanomaterials are used for targeted drug delivery, imaging and sensing applications. It is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Discrimination Based On Physical Appearance Discrimination based on physical appearance, or lookism, has had a heavy impact throughout history. For example, it is a common belief that John F. Kennedy's more favorable looks were a contributing factor in his 1960 presidential win against Richard Nixon. To a lot of people, it may appear that beautiful people have an unfair advantage in life. As a result of this belief, a world where becoming beautiful is a rite of passage for all people seems to have an almost utopia–like quality, but that is not the case in the dystopian novel Specials by Scott Westerfeld. This book is an excellent reading choice to open the eyes of people who are under the false impression that physical attractiveness makes a person superior, and for those who ... Tally discovers one of these towns and makes an observation: "Without the lesions making everyone agreeable, society was left rolling in a constant battle of words, images, and ideas." (Specials 229). Despite the government's attempts to keep their citizens controlled, the people's conflicting nature prevails. Although the special surgery's goal is to make people perfect, Tally still walks away from it with some major character flaws, one being how conceited she becomes. Being special means she belongs to an elite group of people that are above the average citizen. This gives her feelings of entitlement and warps her view of other people. Feelings of superiority effect not only Tally, but her friends as well. Zane, her former boyfriend, falls prey to Tally's new–gained shallowness. Pity and disgust replace her love for this crippled pretty. Even his touch repulses her, making her think to herself, "She'd kissed him, let herself be touched by him – someone unspecial and barely average." (166). Also affected is Tally 's best friend Shay, who cannot stand Tally 's new behavior. Shay becomes so angry with Tally that tells her, "You don 't think you 're better than everyone else, just that you 're the center of the universe." (293) Tally's weakness destroyed her romantic relationship with Zane and broke up her friendship with Shay. Fortunately, Tally recognizes the weakness within herself. • 9. The Uglie Critical Analysis According to Merriam–Webster dictionary, the word realization is defined as, "an act of becoming fully aware of something as a fact." Being able to realize the ultimate desires and goals in life is apart of each of the texts. In the book The Uglies by Scott Westerfeld, the story shows characters realizing objectives through point of view when Tally Youngblood is faced with the truth about getting an operation to become pretty. Likewise, in "The Third and Final Continent" by Jhumpa Lahiri, the message of realization is developed through symbolism of the narrator's experience in a new world. The theme as shown in "The Art of Resilience" by Hara Estroff Marano is expressed through conflict. The use of point of view, symbolism and conflict create the theme, a person must become self–aware to realize their goals, in the texts The Uglies by Scott Westerfeld, "The Third and Final Continent" by Jhumpa Lahiri, and "The Art of Resilience" by Hara Estroff Marano. In The Uglies, the lesson of becoming self–aware is communicated through the main character, Tally Youngblood's, point of view. At first, Tally Youngblood longs to receive an operation to turn herself pretty after being viewed as ugly most of her life. After she was denied the surgery because of complications with a friend, she started becoming sensitive about the label given to her. The author wrote, "She'd been an ugly for four years, but a few extra days had brought home to her exactly what the word really meant" ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. The Ashley Treatment The Ashley Treatment has been, and still remains, controversial. A statement written by Ashley's mom and dad stated that "Ashley had a normal birth, but her mental and motor faculties did not develop. Over the years, neurologists, geneticists, and other specialists conducted every known traditional and experimental test, but still could not determine a diagnosis or a cause. Doctor's call her condition 'static encephalopathy of unknown etiology', which means an insult to the brain of unknown origin or cause, and one that will not improve." This name was given in reference to a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is not clear whether or not the court would have stopped Ashley's parents from modifying her body in the way they did. It seems likely that, at a minimum, the mastectomy would have been delayed until it was clear that Ashley had in fact developed large uncomfortable breasts, something that was merely speculative at the time of her surgery. It is certain, however, that imposition of limitations and process in her case would have gone a long way toward reducing the risk that the procedures caused Ashley more harm than any benefits they achieved. Obviously, time cannot be turned back for Ashley, but future cases can and should be regulated more carefully (Ouellette, 2009). It has been more than five years since the Ashley Treatment but the topic is still very much alive for a few reasons. One being, that the treatment is still being given (at least 12 given so far in the U.S.), secondly because of the legal issues raised and thirdly due to the moral issues it raises. In my opinion, the moral issues it raises are enough to oppose the treatment in itself. The justification behind the parents giving their daughter The Ashley Treatment were to improve her the quality of life by keeping Ashley from suffering from menstrual pain, and enabling her to become more mobile due to her lack of weight and height. This argument also states that the lives of the parents will be made easier in caring for their terminally disabled ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. New Approaches And Education For The Success Of... 7 New Approaches and Education for the Success of Decentralized Wastewater Treatment Systems There is a common thinking in the academia and professional arenas that the solution to the untreated wastewater discharges into our water bodies can be prevented or mitigated mainly with the construction of wastewater sewer collection systems and wastewater treatment plants. Part of the purpose of this research is to revisit and analyze the benefits of using decentralized wastewater treatment technologies and evaluate the latest wastewater treatment technologies available. 7.1 Overview of Centralized Wastewater Treatment Systems Infrastructure It is also of common knowledge that our nation's wastewater treatment infrastructure is widely recognized to be in serious overhaul, if not outright replacement. (Crawford 2011). Also it is known that wastewater management does not figure among the environmental legal and regulatory matters that command public attention, despite the direct human and environmental health impacts of wastewater infrastructure failures, to say nothing of the unsavory nature of ruptured sewage lines and massive sewage spills, with their attendant harms for both land and water pollution (Crawford 2011). This is due to a lack of knowledge and education to the public concerning this serious threat. A serious national wastewater treatment crisis is imminent. The need to address our wastewater infrastructure deficiencies is urgent and not only for the centralized ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Imagine a place where everyone was equally beautiful, and there were no responsibilities or worries. A place where you were given everything you could've ever asked for. If you had a place this luxurious, would you still want it? Sometimes we think our lives would be fulfilled if we were smarter, or prettier, or more athletic. It is these times that we neglect to see how great our lives already are. This is the theme of Scott Westerfeld's novel, Uglies. Cable tells Tally, "'Then I'll make you a promise too, Tally Youngblood. Until you help us, to the very best of your ability, you will never be pretty" (Loc 1309). Sometimes, we are willing to go against someone we love if it benefits ourselves. Tally wants to be perfect so badly that she is willing to turn her friend in to the authorities to get the operation she wants. Apparently, he has had a crush on me. When Charlie asked me, I wasn't so sure at first. He's a really nice guy, but he is my student. I told Charlie to ask Dr. Strauss. Dr. Strauss said that it was ok, so it was decided, I was going to dinner with Charlie because I did not want to be rude. He seemed overly excited when Dr. Strauss and I said yes. He jumped and threw his arms in the air as if he had just won Jeopardy. Charlie said to meet him at the Roadkill Café at seven o'clock. As I was driving to the café I was getting nervous about dinner. I tried to get my mind off of that so I focused on the beautiful, blazing, vibrant red, orange, and yellow colored sunset that brightly lit up the horizon. Vaporwave Argumentative Essay Humanities Culminating Project Vaporwave is a microgenre of music started in the early 2010s focused on deconstructing elements of 90s culture, consumerism, and nostalgia. Vaporwave works remix pop songs, Muzak, advertisements, startup sounds, and other cultural material from the 80s and 90s, to produce hypnotic, almost dreamy music. Like a temple, this grants them a sort of sacredness, where it is impossible for anything to break this static template. The websites become authoritative and dictate the user experience. We cannot influence or modify them the same way we cannot change the structure of a building. And yet these virtual buildings are inescapable. • 17. Kalamazoo Water Reclamation Plant Wastewater treatment systems are very important to providing clean, drinkable water to its surrounding societies. These systems also help in the removal of contaminants in wastewater from household sewage, runoff, domestic, commercial and institutional units. Processes include physical, chemical and biological manipulation of contaminants to neutralize their effects on the human body for consumption. There are three main types of treatment, primary, secondary and tertiary, all of which have separate units and processes that flow in an organized manner to ultimately end up with recycled potable water. First in primary treatment the sewage is temporarily held in a quiescent basin where heavy solids settle to the bottom while other contaminants such as oil, grease and lighter solids float to the top. Commonly used procedures involve bar screens with washer compactors that remove a majority of non–fine solid material waste. Other airs is added to settle solids for grit removal. • 19. Analysis Of The Book ' The Hunger Games ' By Scott Westerfeld Freedom of choice, the transference of power away from and to the oppressed, and rebellion against societal norms: these are some of the many ingredients of a book that hailed a new approach toward writing, trailblazing a whole subgenre of fictitious works. This book, a book which will stand the test of time, embodies the female struggle in an oppressive society. This book, Scott Westerfeld's Uglies, will survive as it became a beacon in the new style of young adult dystopian novels with female protagonists. "Uglies' slang is...ugly. It's all about giving people nicknames that highlights their ugliness–Skinny, Squint," the difference between Uglies' use of naming and Jane Eyre's use of naming is that in Uglies the young adults impress upon each other these oppressive names rather than a more privileged individual bestowing the names, which lower their own self esteems(Wilkinson 10). This tactic of encouraging self–depreciating names is a practice which internalizes the need in the young citizens to live for the day in which they turn sixteen and can be "reprieved" of their undesirable traits, their skinny frames and squinty eyes. In 2009, European and North American industrial water use accounted for half of their total water use, whereas in developing nations industrial water use ranges from 4–12% of national water use [10]. As industrialisation in developing nations increases, industrial water use could potentially increase by a factor of 5, strongly increasing pressure on water resources [10]. Wastewater can be reused within the industry producing it or between several industries through 'industrial symbiosis' [11]. 2.1.3 Agricultural use (Irrigation) Wastewater reuse for agricultural purpose, which constitute about 70% water usage, reduces stress on water resources. The use of wastewater for irrigation is a common practice in rural and peri–urban areas of most developing countries. Even in areas where other water sources exist, small farmers often prefer wastewater because its high nutrient content reduces or even eliminates the need for expensive chemical fertilizers [12]. Farmers are increasingly considering non–conventional water resources, mainly wastewater, either due to its high nutrient content or lack of conventional water resources [11]. Dana Gioia decided to write a poem called Special Treatments Ward, and with it, she expressed raw and relatable emotions about a topic not many people dare to speak about. I believe it'll evoke strong feelings from a wide range of readers. This test does not give background information about this poem other than the title and who it was written by. There is no identifiable form in this poem. However, there are still patterns to be found. This poem contains 3 stanzas and has 7 lines each, making it 21 lines long. This poem has an open form, containing several end stopped lines. Another noticeable pattern is that despite the end stopped lines, there are full sentences formed and proper capitalization at the beginning of the sentences, and periods used at the end of them. Rhymes are used in this poem, however, it does not have a specific rhyme scheme pattern. It has the inconsistent pattern of ABBCDEF/BEGEEHH/IIFIJKK. The speaker in this poem could be argued to be non–participant, however, use of the pronouns "we" and "our" in the last stanza show that the speaker could indeed be a participant. The speaker first handedly describes what's taking place in the poem, which is another reason why I believe the speaker is a participant. As you read you discover that she an adolescent who is selfish and will do anything to become a "Pretty", but as her story goes on her traits change from a selfish, immature, and outspoken girl to a brave, mature, and caring young woman. Tally Youngblood's characteristics alter so much due to being forced onto a journey into foreign land to sell out her friend or else her dream of becoming a "Pretty" will never come true. "Dynamic is a constant change, activity, or progress" (Google Dictionary). This word describes Tally Youngblood perfectly. In the novel the Uglies, Tally is a constant evolving character. In the beginning chapters, she expresses how much she wants to become a "Pretty" to anyone who will listen. She is very stubborn and knows exactly she wants; therefore, she will not let anything get in the way of that, even if that means selling out her best friend. Tally is an immature girl causing trouble and play tricks in the first half of the novel, but her traits change once she is put into a position where it is either Dr. Cable's way or no way. She is alone braving the dangers and elements on her journey outside the city and into the Smoke. She becomes more brave and intelligent. Tally's journey causes her to mature and realize that not everything is about becoming a "Pretty". Tally Youngblood is so dynamic because she progresses and changes throughout the entire novel. • 27. Character Analysis Of Tally's 'Uglies' Beautifully Asleep; Hideously Awake As adolescents progress toward adulthood, a drastic reformation of both mental affect and moral worldview is commonly experienced. Scott Westerfeld– in his novel Uglies–illustrates this commonality of human experience through that of Tally Youngblood, his societally divergent protagonist. The pivotal moments that signify her gradual, yet distinct moral development are clearly defined in specific segments of text. Moreover, the actual structure of the novel concretely separates the definitive changes in Tally's moral worldview. It is through these phases that the Uglies protagonist's character develops from being a slave to society's imposed norms, to a questioning skeptic, and finally to a self–actualized individual with sound motives and personal passions. In "Pretty" society, a clearly defined hierarchy exists between "Littlies", "Uglies", "New Pretties", "Middle Pretties", and "Late Pretties". At age 16, each "Ugly" member of society undergoes an appearance altering operation to become "Pretty" on the pretense of social homogeneity. Tally begins her story as a stereotypically trouble–making Ugly, who–apart from "tricks"–adheres to her society's laws and norms. The earth is made up of 75 percent water. Why, if water is in such abundance, is it such a precious commodity? Some countries have begun to ration water, while others act as if there is an endless supply. The numbers are very deceiving, simply because the water that is in such short supply is fresh water, which is crucial for all aspects of life. According to Wright and Boorse (2005) "About 97.5% of all water is the saltwater of the oceans and seas. The remaining 2.5 percent is freshwater–water with salt content of less than 0.1 percent. This is the water on which most terrestrial biota, ecosystems, and humans depend. Of the 2.5 percent, though, two–thirds is bound up in the polar ice caps and glaciers. Thus, only 0.77 percent of all water is found in lakes, wetlands, rivers, groundwater, biota, soil, and the atmosphere. On a global level the largest amount of water is used for irrigation, nearly 70 percent, while industry uses 20 percent and actual human use is 10 percent." • 34. The Industrial Waste Management Practices INTRODUCTION: Huge plants which operate in the industry of light, chemicals and other heavy industries, although providing substantial employment and improving the economy, contribute to a lot of aquatic pollution . Unless the industrial waste management practices are regulated and monitored for sensitive water bodies around them, they pose a significant contamination risk. Locating a resourceful site, providing facilities along with industrial waste and operational management practices are needed to minimize this risk. The most commonly affecting industrial waste includes petroleum hydrocarbons, heavy metals, surfactants, toxins and/or salts, which pollute surrounding water bodies, making them unsuitable for most of the water needs and harming the aquatic life therein. Algal blooms and oxygen deficit are the result of excessive nutrients found in the waters. Industrial wastes are also known to pollute underground water too which increase the cost and risk of cleaning/treating sewage. Therefore it is necessary to treat the wastewater properly with the help of an appropriate treatment plant. However, the treatment plant even though properly planned may not work satisfactory because of several reasons. Hence, it is essential to evaluate the treatment plant considering individual treatment unit in the entire treatment flow. In the present work emphasis has been given to the study of the performance of treatment facilities because of its importance in the conventional treatment of wastewater. Hence, the literature review related to the evaluation of the entire treatment process along with biological treatment process particularly suspended growth process Activated Sludge Process (ASP), attached growth process Trickling Filter (TF) and a combination of the both suspended and attached growth process Hybrid Reactor (HR) is presented in the following sections of this chapter. 2.2 REVIEWED OF LITERATURE ON ACTIVATED SLUDGE PROCESS In suspended growth processes, the microorganisms responsible for the treatment of wastewater are maintained in liquid suspension by appropriate mixing methods. Many suspended growth process ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Reading And Writing On My Life If I said that reading was important to me right now, I would definitely be lying. I can't sit down for extended periods of time and enjoy a good book like I used to. When I was in elementary school, and even when I was going into high school, I was never seen without a book. When I was younger I could finish a new book every single week. But it was very easy for me to fall out of love with reading as I was being introduced to new technologies. It started with a Nintendo Wii. Sometimes I find it difficult to admit that I even owned one, but the best way to get over embarrassment is to talk about it right? Never the less, it was the beginning of the end of my love for reading. My earliest recollections about reading and writing were very enjoyable for me. Reading had a huge impact on my life. In a way, I guess you could even say that some of these experiences made me as literate and knowledgeable as I am today. It was the first time in my life that I can truly remember feeling genuinely good about myself. A while after I had gotten a Nintendo Wii, I got my first cell phone. It was a Nokia. Obviously it was nothing special, but at the time it was extremely useful and I loved having it around. I then moved on to own an HTC and now an IPhone. And not long after I got my IPhone, I bought a Playstation 4, an Xbox 360, and a Playstation 2. I honestly believe that technology was the main reason I stopped reading. Now that I have been out of the habit of reading for nearly 6 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Alcoholism Is Not A New Topic Alcoholism is not a new topic. Dependence and abuse of alcohol has been the source of constant study and research for years now. Even less unknown is alcoholism among teenagers today. The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism report that "more adolescents use alcohol than cigarettes or marijuana," and that a national survey in 2014 reveals how "8.7 million young people ages 12–20 reported that they drank alcohol beyond 'just a few sips' in the past month." Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report that while adults drink more often than youth, "underage drinkers consume more drinks per drinking occasion than adult drinkers." They also discovered that "excessive drinking is responsible for more than 4,300 deaths among ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Becoming pretty and the operation itself represents alcohol, and the lesions, alcoholism. Scott further explores this link through the two most prominent characters, Tally Youngblood and her friend Shay. Tally Youngblood cannot wait to turn sixteen and get the operation that will turn her from an ugly into a pretty, where she can move into Pretty Town and worry only about having fun. However, her friend Shay decides she would rather stay ugly and runs away before she gets the operation herself. The authorities – known as Specials and led by Dr. Cable – tell Tally that she can either find Shay and bring her back or stay ugly forever. Initially choosing to bring Shay in, Tally realizes that she was sent not just to find Shay, but an entire settlement of people who decided to stay ugly, dubbed the Smoke. It is there that she also learns about the lesions, and armed with this knowledge decides to turn her back on her old dreams of turning pretty. It is unfortunately too little too late though, and the Specials come and destroy the settlement. The Smoke itself lives to fight another day, but Tally and Shay are taken back to their city and made pretty. In the second book, Tally is living it up in Pretty Town. She hangs out with her friend Shay and a new gang called the Crims in a constant world of partying. Tally is not sure she is Crim material though; she constantly feels echoes of discomfort with her life as is. The story then takes a sudden turn as Tally remembers the ... • 38. Chemical Pollution Biological, Chemical, and Physical Agent Water pollution is caused when water contains excessive amounts of biological agents & microorganisms, such as bacterial species, viruses, worms, and/or algae. This type of pollution is caused by decaying organic material in water, animal wastes, as well as improper disposal of human wastes. Chemical pollution is defined as the presence or increase in our environment of chemical pollutants that are not naturally present, or are found in amounts higher than normal. Most of the chemicals that pollute the environment are man–made, resulting from the various activities in which toxic chemicals are used for various purposes. The impacts are normally identified with the introduction to high measures of chemicals. Chemical contamination prompts different valid sicknesses, by and large by devouring toxic food, drinking exceptionally tainted water, or breathing poor quality air. Sewage Treatment Septic systems and advanced onsite wastewater treatment technologies rely on soil to treat sewage and sanitary wastewater (EPA, 2017). Sewage is the term utilized for wastewater that regularly contains excrement, pee, and clothing waste. There are billions of individuals on Earth, so treating sewage is a major need. Sewage transfer is an issue in developing countries and a large number of individuals in these territories don't have access to sanitary conditions and clean water. Untreated sewage water in such territories can degrade the earth and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
