4. Policy: ICT within the Curriculum
Policy drivers offer clear messages
“It's clear that technology is going to bring profound changes to how
and what we teach. But it's equally clear that we have not yet
managed to make the most of it …
• technology has the potential to disseminate learning much more
widely than ever before
• just as technology raises profound questions about how we learn, it
also prompts us to think about how we teach
• technology brings unprecedented opportunities for assessment”
Michael Gove, BETT Speech January 2012
5. Policy: Raising the attainment of the most deprived children

9. Disapplication of ICT PoS
Why…..?
– Concerns from industry
– eSkills UK
– NESTA Next Gen report
– British Computer Society
– NC Review feedback
– Dissatisfaction with former ICT National Strategy
10. What does suspension of PoS mean?
• The current (previous) Programme of Study is abandoned
• There is no assessment framework for ICT Capability
• ICT remains a statutory subject
• So….
Universities, businesses and others will have
the opportunity to devise new courses and
exams …
We want to see universities and businesses
create new high quality Computer Science
GCSEs, and develop curricula encouraging
schools to make use of the brilliant Computer
Science content available on the web.
I am pleased that OCR is pioneering work in
this field, and that IBM and others are already
working on a pilot. Facebook has teamed up
with UK-based organisation Apps for Good ….

16. To be creative you have to contribute
something different from what you've done
before. Your results need not be original to
the world; few results truly meet that
criterion. In fact, most results are built on
the work of others
