In this presentation I will be answering and
discussing:
• The similarities between the video, digipak
and advertisement and how coherent there
are.
• Discussing audience feedback
• Conventions of the music industry and
theories to back this up.
3. In what ways is the branding ‘coherent’ –
why does it all look like it’s for the same
band?
• Below this PowerPoint presentation are three analysis’, of the
music video, digipak and print advertisement.
• In my opinion and the opinion of the target audience the
branding is all very coherent and it all abides by a house style
using similar colours and effects throughout all three tasks.
• As several of the images on the digipak came from stills from
the music video they are very easily linked together.
• The artists are featured in all three tasks and they are also
wearing all the same clothing and are in the same setting, this
is too eliminate the audience being confused but it also helps
with linking all three products together.
4. Audience Feedback on whether the print
products and music video are coherent
• When receiving audience feedback on my print products I
asked people whether they could easily link the print products
with Music video.
• I believe that the similarities are obvious, as the images of the
artists are similar to the stop motion sections in the video.
• A house style has also been used throughout the project, the
entropic features of the music video were re-used in the print
products.
• The artists wore clothes that suited the circus feel of the video,
for example the black and white stripy clothing, braces and
bowler hats could all be interpreted as fashionable ways of
wearing circus or mime like clothing.
5. Brand and Brand Image
• For all three of the tasks in this project I have continually used
typical conventions for music videos, digipak design and the
print work.
• A typical demand of the record label is that the artist/band are
shown off. This is included in Goodwin’s theory, he says that
close ups are obligatory in the music industry and the
overarching theme is to advertise the artist.
• To me this means that the artists should be represented or
featured in all three tasks, and that is what I have done, the
advertisement is solely of the artists and they are also heavily
featured in the digipak and the video.
