• This is a long lasting disorder in which a person has uncontrollable behaviors
or thoughts that compel he or she to repeat them over and over.
4. Symptoms of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder
• Obsessions- are urges, repeated thoughts and mental images that can cause
anxiety. Some examples are: fear of germs, aggressive thoughts towards
others or towards self, and having things symmetrical or in order.
• Compulsions- are repetitive behaviors usually cause by an obsessive thought.
Some examples of compulsions include: excessive cleaning, arranging or
ordering things, and repeatedly checking on things.
6. Monk
A man named Adrian Monk develops Obsessive-
Compulsive Disorder after the unsolved murder of
his wife. His condition costs him his job as a
detective for San Francisco Police Department.
However, He continues to solve crime with the
help of his assistant and his former boss.

• Throughout the TV series Adrian finds himself
wiping off everything with wipes and tissues before
he touches something.
• In multiple episodes Adrian sees things out of
alignments and adjusts items to their
"correct" positions.
• Throughout the series his cleaning and fidgeting with
items can become problematic and also humorous.

• Adrian Monk developed the condition Obsessive-
Compulsive Disorder from the death of his wife.
• Throughout the series Adrian Monk cleans and
adjusts things as a result of his obsessive thoughts
and compulsions.
• These repetitive thoughts and compulsive behaviors
all show signs that Adrian Monk has Obsessive-
Compulsive Disorder.
