What is OCD?
 OCD is an anxiety disorder
 It is most commonly characterized by uncontrollable thoughts
and behaviors.
 These uncontrollable thoughts are known as obsessions.
 These uncontrollable (ritual like) actions are known as
compulsions.

Obsessive thoughts
 These thoughts are often anxiety producing.
 Obsessions eventually leads to compulsive behavior
 They often go hand in hand with uncomfortable feelings.
 Often interferes heavily with personal life.

Compulsive behavior
 Most commonly characterized as rituals.
 Usually done in an effort to appease the obsessive behaviors.
 Compulsive behaviors can activate more obsessive behaviors.
 Most compulsive behaviors are of the repetitive and sometimes
very debilitating.

Treatments
 Cognitive behavioral therapy, particularly ERP(exposure and
response prevention) through a licensed therapist.
 This is done through attempting to break the cycles of the
ritualistic thoughts and behaviors.
 Therapy is usually combined with a medication SRI (Serotonin
reuptake inhibitors) class.

Media: The Office
 With this project I thought of a character in the office known as
Angela Martin.
 Throughout the show Angela is known for her not displaying any
flexibility when it comes to beliefs and maintaining a sense of
structure.
 She is constantly under stress due to office organization and
cleanliness.
 She has many cats that she constantly checks in on.
 Angela often preoccupies herself counting unnecessary activities
in the office.

Angela Martin
 Throughout the show Angela displays clear signs of over
cleanliness and is constantly displays uneasiness when it
comes to delegating tasks to others in certain comities she is a
part of.
 She is always worried about issues that have to do with religion
and morals.

Angela’s obsessive traits
 Constant anxiety.
 Constantly consumed/ preoccupied with intrusive thoughts.
 Fear of germs.
 Aggressive thoughts/ wishes to others.
 She has a hard time whenever she is not in control.
 Often hyper concerned with issues of morals.

Compulsive traits
 Angela is constantly seen thoroughly and unnecessarily
washing her hands.
 Constantly checks on her cats.
 Constantly takes charge in order to be in control.
 Constantly makes lists.
