Γιορτή της μητέρας-Φύλλα εργασιών για όλες τις τάξεις
Yiota presents φ
1. Athens, 6-10 March 2017
Let’s talk about Φ
OR
A CHANCE TO TALK ABOUT EDUCATION
2. • Albert Einstein, "Imagination is more important than knowledge."
• Or if that didn’t make sense to you, try
• George Cantor, "The essence of mathematics is in its freedom.“
• 'all about finding the right goal for each individual in the team and working
as a team to fulfill those goals.'
3. • 'Today WE don’t want you to think about project-based
learning or the problems you’re facing. Today WE want you
to enjoy, relax and get inspired!'
• The purpose of this five days meeting is to provide
you with the information, ideas and inspiration you need
to invigorate in your own teaching practices – effecting
educational change from the ground up, giving you ideas on
how to innovate your own classes and schools.
4. What is the best motivation for teachers to
develop themselves professionally?
• the pedagogical freedom- we are trusted. (?)
• Parents to have faith in our work (?)
• global education. As a young teacher I went to Spain , involved in
international projects like Comenius. I think it's good to be open to
collaborate with colleagues and schools locally or internationally as a means
to gather great educational ideas to apply in your own work. Everyone has
something to give and to learn from others.
5. Soft Skills and Youth Empowerment
• 'Soft skills' is a term that covers a wide spectrum of attributes such as
communication and social skills, attitudes, and emotional intelligence.
• It is also a widely disputed term, as it indicates that perhaps the skills it
covers are not as serious as other academic skills. (Alternate terms for 'Soft
skills' include '21st Century skills' and 'Non-cognitive skills,' both of which
come under fire for similar reasons).
6. The importance of promoting 'Soft skills' and
cultural values within our educational systems.
• Contemporary issues such as the refugee crisis in the Middle East and Europe, Donald
Trump having a strong following in America with his xenophobic statements, and the United
Kingdom deciding to leave the European Union earlier this year, reveal how the world’s
community is becoming increasingly fractured.
• As we are facing an ever-more globalized future, skills such as empathy and
understanding of different cultures and backgrounds is paramount. We are
already experiencing the dangers of a fractured and disempowered youth as is most
evidently exampled through the radicalisation of young people for terrorist
purposes. Perhaps having soft skills more heavily emphasized in schools will help
with cultural understanding and producing a more cohesive global population
7. What are the key challenges in teaching
math in Greece and globally?
• The challenges in teaching math are global ones.
• Students aren't motivated, and in some cases they even hate math. I meet a
lot of adults who tell me how much they dislike the subject. This means
there is a lot to change in teaching math in Greece and globally.
8. On a positive note, we do see a lot of these changes
happening in mathematics all around
• . What needs to change in addressing the motivation problems is the structure
of the lessons. The lessons are too stiff and they always progress the same way.
Often the lessons are too short to trial versatile teaching methods. Learning material
might be limited and teaching methods narrow.
• Math needs to be more social, not just numbers, but relatable to the life of the
students.
• Maths courses should be challenging, stimulating and fun;
• a tool to make sense of the world rather than a list of rules. I believe students
often learn better outside the classroom by taking unconventional approaches to
real-life problems
• We still have a lot of work to do.
9. What kind of changes can teachers achieve
with their teaching?
• At this moment I am touched by how social and global young people today
are.
• The fact that we can produce global citizens in Greek schools is
interesting to me. It is so important for students to understand the changes
happening in the world and to be prepared to face challenges that may arise
rather than fearing them.
10. •Teachers are highly skilled,
which is the wonderful
aspect of it. It is possible to
change the way we educate
37. • “Use” phi
• while learning about ratios and proportions
• Grades 6 - 8
• to break out of the usual lecture format of math instruction and
allow students to work together, conduct research, synthesize
data, use critical thought, and formulate conclusions.
• individual research outside of the classroom as homework,
and
• team collaboration inside the classroom.
38. be a Historian
• Trace the development of the golden ratio by answering the following
questions in your own words. Remember you will have to present your
findings to the rest of your group.
• 1. What is the golden ratio? The golden mean? Phi?
• 2. How did the Pythagoreans use the golden ratio?
• 3. How did the Ancient Egyptians use the golden ratio?
• 4. How did the Greeks use the golden ratio?
• 5. How did the artists during the Renaissance use the golden ratio?
39. Mathematician
• - Explore the mathematics behind the golden ratio by answering the
following questions in your own words. Remember to present your findings
to the rest of your group.
• 1. Give at least two numerical expressions that represent phi (the golden ratio).
• 2. Write a quadratic equation that when solved produces phi. Solve the equation
using any process.
• 3. What is the Fibonacci sequence? Where is the Fibonacci sequence present in
nature? What does it have to do with the golden ratio?
• 4. How is the golden mean present in three-dimensional shapes?
• 5. Using paper and pencil construct at least two golden shapes (rectangle, spiral,
triangle, star, line, graveyard cross, pentagon, pentagram, Penrose Tailings, etc.) and
include an explanation as to how the golden ratio is present.
40. Observer
• - Find out all the applications of the golden ratio by answering
the following questions in your own words. Remember you will
have to present your findings to the rest of your group.
• 1. Where is the golden ratio used in architecture? (Give at least three examples.)
• 2. Where is the golden ratio used in art? (Give at least three examples).
• 3. Why have artists and architects used the golden ratio in their work? (Give at least
two reasons.)
• 4. In Activity #1 we saw how the golden ratio is present in a developed human
body. How is the golden ratio present in human embryos?
• 5. Where is the golden mean evident in animals, plants, or flowers? (Give at least
three examples)
• 6. Why would a dentist use the golden ratio?
• 7. Where else might you find the golden ratio?
41. Teach your Team
• It is now time to organize your thoughts, and present your findings to
the rest of your team. Your goal is to have your team members
understand the concepts you discovered.
• To achieve this objective, you may use multimedia software to help organize
your mini-presentation.
• Give your group members ample time to ask questions. The objective of
this activity is to share and discuss your findings with the rest of your
group. Make sure all of your team members understand the answers to each
section (historian, mathematician, observer).
• Each team member is to turn in answers to all three sections written in
your own words.
42. Create a Fibonacci (or Golden) Spiral
• Go to the following website and follow the directions to create your own
Fibonacci Spiral. Each student is responsible for their own spiral.
43. EXERCISES
• In an A4 book build segment AB = 20 cm and divide it into two unequal
segments AC, CB to that the greatest of them to be a proportionate means
of the smallest and the initial part. Describe the way you constructed it.
What are the numbers of the segment lengths, AC, AB;
• Look between your school subjects one that gives you the sense of harmonic
and you really like. Make measurements and calculations it to discover the
number of Ph. Write on paper A4 your job describing your measurements.
44. Demonstrate the Golden Ratio
• The instructions here are simple…By yourself, creatively demonstrate your
knowledge of the Golden Ratio.
• Some ideas may include: a painting, a musical composition, a multimedia
presentation, a model of an architectural structure...
• be creative and to demonstrate to the rest of the class that you learned something.
• Check out the individual final project rubric before you begin.

66. • «Να εξελίσσεσαι, όχι να βελτιώνεσαι»
•
(Lars, Von Trier, 281-282, 2013)
•
67. • "To evolve, not get better"
It is important for the director to evolve, but most confusing development
with the improvement, which are two very different concepts. I have
developed in my work because they always move to different things ... I
had no doubts about my work. Of course, I may have doubts about how
others will react, but I never doubted about what I wanted to do. I never
wanted to be better. But I worked and changed. And I never was scared
what I did. When I see how many directors working, I can understand that
fear. But it is a limitation that I can not accept. I have many phobias in my
personal life, too many. But not in my job. If this were to happen, I would
stop working immediately. »(Lars, Von Trier, 281-282, 2013)
