10. Why this has to change
focusing in on the last year and a half - global pandemic,
mental health
11.
12. We can no longer ignore the conversation. Hundreds of million of people
worldwide of all ages are suffering from depression, a leading cause of
disability and a major contributor to the overall global burden of disease.

13. Young people are struggling the most with their mental health.
Suicide was the second leading cause of death in The U.S. among
individuals between the ages of 10 and 34, and the fourth leading cause of
death among individuals between the ages of 35 and 44.

14. "Nowhere in the world are female workers less stressed than men.
On average, 46% of working women in 2020 reported stress "a lot of the
day yesterday," as did 42% of working men. In the U.S. and Canada, it's
62% to 52%, respectively. Meanwhile, wellbeing is declining among
employed women, whether or not they have children, faster than among
working men."

15. The stigma around mental health challenges remains, particularly in
the workplace. 31% of millennial respondents and 35% of generation z
respondents said they have taken time off of work due to stress and anxiety
caused by the pandemic. Among the other two-thirds who did not take time
off, four in ten deemed themselves to be stressed all of the time but chose
to work through it. Nearly half of respondents who took mental health days
gave reasons other than stress for their absence, slightly more than those
who were transparent.

17. "This pandemic is the biggest crisis the world has seen in nearly
a century, and it’s important that leaders recognize that the old
normal is gone forever. It’s up to leaders to figure out a new future—
otherwise, it will be determined for them."
18. Becoming a product leader is the number one ten-year goal of
product managers. Almost half (48%) aspire to continue in product
and see themselves leading the products of the future.

21. Break The Stigma
Encourage Awareness
Have hard conversations. Encourage
talking about the reality of mental health.
Communicate how you are feeling.
Prioritize Supporting Others
Create a culture where it's okay to
acknowledge stress and negative feelings
amongst your teammates.
23. “Could a greater miracle take place than for us to look
through each other’s eyes for an instant?”
– Henry David Thoreau
24. In order to be truly empathetic, we have to step into what another is
feeling, and that is vulnerable. We can't have one without the other; they
are interchangeable.
Source: Brené Brown
25. "Vulnerability is not
weakness. And that myth is
profoundly dangerous.
Vulnerability is the
birthplace of innovation,
creativity, and change."
– Brené Brown
26. Get curious. Empathy is stepping into the situation and feeling the emotion
(e.g. “Wow, this is heartbreaking. I imagine that is really, really hard.”).
