MLA Format Research Paper
The MLA Format gives students a standard on which to write on. Students are expected to write
in such a way that it is professional and informative. A person would not expect to get a job if he
showed up to the interview in shorts and a tee shirt, because they would not have the professional
appearance for an employer to think highly of them. If a paper is written in the incorrect format,
than the person reviewing the paper will not feel that the paper is creditable or they would feel the
writer just did not put in the effort. MLA formatting makes papers fit a uniformed look. With
academic paper being formatted the same way, the paper becomes more comprehensible. Citations
that are formatted the same can be more easily matched up with their

What I Learned In Mla Format
Reflection Essay
Throughout this semester I have learned many valuable resources, and tools. The big thing you
taught us was how to write and argument paper. Also I have learned different tools on
summarizing, how to better my skills for peer reviews, new library skills, and MLA format. Most of
these I already knew, but you taught us them more in depth, and you gave me better understandings
of them. With writing an argumentative paper, it's important to have all the right facts, and make
sure you have reliable sources. If you don't have the right facts or reliable sources nobody will
want to read your argument; because you wont have the right facts to back up your points. When
writing an argumentative paper, its good to know all the facts about each side. Knowing all the facts
about each side is important, because people want to read...show more content...
Like summarizing, and writing an essay I knew how to do it, but going in and listening to the
speaker explain it to us helped a lot. I learned more on how to use the thesaurus, and all the different
skills he taught us on using key words to looks information up.
MLA format is something I have always kind of needed help with. Until this semester for some
reason I could never really cite my sources that well. Its something I knew how to do, but when it
came time to do it my mind went blank. When you went over everything on the bored that helped
me so much (also because I took notes), but only because you told us to take them. With MLA
format I learned that when quoting, if its more than three lines you have to use block quote. I didn't
know that till I got to this class.
In summary, all these skills will be helpful for my next few college years, and when I go off to get
jobs. Thank you for teaching us everything you have. From something you are supposed to teach to
common sense things. You are a wonderful teacher, and I'm so glad you were my

APA Style Analysis
APA Style Sample
APA (American Psychological Association) style is primarily used in the social science disciplines.
It is formatted like MLA, and shows many similarities, but is unique in several key points.
APA uses parenthetical (or in–text) citations within sentences, but rather than indicating the author's
name and page number, APA includes author's name anddate of publication. The page number,
represented with a p. or a pp., is only added to the citation when using a direct quote (not a summary
or paraphrase). If the author's name is mentioned in the sentence, then place the date of publication in
parentheses directly after the name. If the name is...show more content...
All of the interviewees have been called 'exceptions to the norm' (Strong & Porter, 1998, p.
565).
Note the first example paraphrases an author that is named in the sentence, the second example
paraphrases authors that are not named in the sentence, and the third example provides a direct
quote (thus the inclusion of the page numbers) but also does not identify the authors within the
sentence. If the authors were identified within the sentence in the third example, the authors' names
would be followed by the year of publication and only the page numbers would be in the parentheses
at the end of the quote.
Finally, the bibliographic page in APA style differs from MLA, what APA calls the Reference page.
You will notice a few immediate differences from the MLA Works Cited format. With APA you
include the initial of the author's first name rather than the complete name, the publication date
immediately follows the author's name in parentheses, and titles of articles are not surrounded with
quotation marks (however titles of books, magazines, journals, etc are still underlined). The lists are
still alphabetized by author's last name (or title in the absence of an author) and the first line is flush
left while subsequent lines in the same entry are indented in (approximately 5 spaces or one tab). For
journals and magazines, publication title and volume number are both underlined,

Part 1: MLA In–text Citations – Rewrite the last line of each quote with a correctly formatted MLA
in–text citation.
1. "One of his eyes resembled that of a vulture–a pale blue eye, with a film over it. Whenever it fell
upon me, my blood ran cold; and so by degrees–very gradually–I made up my mind to take the life
of the old man, and thus rid myself of the eye forever."
This is from the text book, Great Writing, which was edited by Harvey S. Wiener and Nora
Eisenberg. It comes from the first page of the short story by Edgar Allan Poe called The Tell–Tale

Abortion
In 2008, twelve women taking resident in the U.S. died due to legal abortions performed during the
second or third trimesters of pregnancy. Abortion should be available to all females living in the
United States, but must be a legal citizen to have late abortions, which are during the second or third
trimesters of pregnancy. Abortion is a right that women have, and the Fourth Amendment "Search
and Seizure" supports it. Fewer women will exercise abortion if it is kept legal in the U.S. Late
abortions are dangerous, so only legal citizens of the U.S. may have second or third trimester
abortions. In the 1820's, various ideas against abortions began...show more content...
Many CPCs (Crisis Pregnancy Centers) mislead women into thinking that abortions cause breast
cancer, that birth–control pills cause abortions, and that abortion can lead to sterility. CPCs do
anything to talk a woman out of having a legal abortion. Late abortions are performed during the
second or third trimesters. A method of late abortion is a saline injection. This is when a needle is
inserted into the uterus through the

MLA Paper: Annotated Bibliography
When writing A MLA paper will be typed using 12 font–Time New Roman. This paper should be
double spaced. Then, this paper should have one inch margins on all sides. When writing each
page should have a header with the writer's last name and the page number. There should not be a
title page for any of the MLA papers. A MLA paper should always have a Body paragraph. MLA
papers should also have a work cited. When reciting poems include the author's last name. When
citing an internet resource with an author include him/her in the sentence. When an author is not
listed, use a shorter version of the title. When an author is stated in the sentence, using a quote, make

MLA Title Analysis
I finally finished reading the chapters from the MLA Handbook that were assigned for this week.
From the chapter about Titles of Sources, I learned that if I want to use the title of the source in my
writing, I should take the title from the authoritative location in the work. An exception to this rule is
unusual typography, such as standardization of capitalization and subtitle punctuation. According to
the chapter, capitalization is allowed for all principal words, such as nouns, pronouns, verbs,
adjectives, adverbs and subordinating conjunctions. However, some of the words cannot be
capitalized. For example, articles, prepositions, conjunctions and infinitives when they fall in the
middle of a title.
If the source is self–contained and independent the title should be italicized or enclosed in quotation
marks. However, there are a few exceptions where titles are capitalized but are not italicized or
enclosed in quotation marks. For example, series, scripture, law, acts, musical compositions
identified by form, number, and key, etc. When the title is indicated by double quotation marks (title
within a title), I learned to enclose the title in single quotation marks. Examples of these titles are
poems and short stories.

From this chapter I also learned how to quote from prose, poetry, and drama. In addition, this
chapter discusses ellipsis points that are used to represent an omission from a direct quotation
when it is cited by another writer. According to this chapter, the series of three dots ( . . . ) should
be inserted where a word, phrase, sentence is left out. There may be some occasions when a writer
need to alter a quote in order to prevent the audience from becoming confused. For examples, I can
use "sic" to assure reader that the spelling error is present in the original source, and square brackets
to comment or explain the

Mla Vs Apa Research Paper
The MLA and APA are two styles that have many similarities but the two styles also have many
differences in format and in the way the sources are citied. Both styles very are similar in many
ways, but are used for different subjects for example APA is predominately used in the social
sciences studies ,while MLA is predominately used for liberal arts and humanities Both MLA and
APA keep to twofold divided pages, have a 12–point textual style, and 1–inch margins on all sides.
An APA formatpaper comprises of four sections: cover sheet, unique, principle body and references.
The theoretical is 150 to 250 words and gives an outline of key focuses in the paper, including the
examination of the subject, research questions, strategies, analysis and...show more content...
Page numbers are to the right and the title of the paper is on the left. The title page includes the
title, author's name, and institutional relationship. An MLA formatted paper includes the title on
the first page, separating the title from the essay only by a double space. MLA uses a header on
the left side of the first page that includes author name, teachers name, course and date. The left over
pages have a right side header that includes the last name of the author's name and page number.
MLA and APA papers have slightly different methods for using in
–text citations for example
author–page format is in the mla format style and APA follows the author
–date format. An
APA–formatted paper consist of the author's last name and year of publication in parenthesis after
the cited text. An MLA–formatted paper consist of the author's last name and page number in
parenthesis after the text. APA–formatted papers include a separate page at the end of the paper
entitled "References," and MLA–formatted papers include a page entitled "Works Cited." Both list
the sources used in the paper alphabetized by the last name of the author and are double

MLA Rough Draft
1.When writing, whether you paraphrase or directly quote someone else's ideas anywhere in your
paper, you must document the use of those borrowed ideas with an internal citation notation. In
MLA, there are two basic features of an internal citation. What are they?
In–text citation – This is a parenthetical citation within the paper that refers the reader to a list of
works cited. It commonly includes the author of the source and a page number, and punctuation
separates the author's last name and the page number. Nor is the abbreviation p. (for "page") used.
The period that ends the sentence appears after the closing parenthesis. 2.In MLA, if you work
(include) the identity of the source into the sentence structure, where do page numbers...show more

In MLA, how are the works cited entries organized on the Work(s) Cited page?
пѓ Tell me how to arrange a works cited list on the page. No example required.
пЃ¶Create a new page at the end of your paper for a "Works Cited" list. Center the words "Works
Cited" at the top of the page. Double space after the title and begin entering citations.
пЃ¶Entries are listed alphabetically by the last name of the author or by the first major word of the
title if no author is given. If a source has more than one author, it is alphabetized by the last name of
the author whose name appears first. The entries are not numbered.
пЃ¶Entries are double–spaced.
пЃ¶The first line of each entry begins at the left margin. If more than one line is needed to complete
the entry, additional lines are indented five spaces or half an inch (this is called a hanging indent).
6.In MLA, if the source's identity is not worked into (written as part of) your sentence structure, how
does the internal citation look the first time you create it? Use your last name and page number 123
to illustrate your answer.
To correctly answer question 6, show me (don't tell me) how an internal citation looks the first time
you cite it in your paper, using your name as the source and page number 123 to complete your
response. You don't need to write a sentence first, just show me the

Leah,
Thank you for your response, pardon me as I was sick with the flu for the past two days. I'm sure
we all have different views, but, I think it all comes down to your choice of words and how you
express yourself. I personally, respond to the tone of speech, meaning the words you choose can
set a mood. In regards to your question, " How do you work through the process of taking what is
in your brain and putting it all down on paper? I'm accustomed to free–writing journals, simply to
"free my mind" and I read the Bible to help me find the answer for all of life's questions. I'm
discovering that "The Bedford Book" concentrates more on "MLA Formatting", in which the
"works cited" may not be in the same order or in a place like the APA style.

The Current Mla Format And Guidelines
Mrs. Pruitt's Research Paper Guide Paper Requirements The length of the research paper must be no
less than 1,500–words and no more than 2,500–words. The 2,500–word limit does not apply to notes
or to the annotated bibliography. In–text citations are required. If your sources are not
acknowledged, your paper will receive a zero and will be required to be rewritten for a lower
grade because this is considered plagiarism. No more than five quotations are allowed in your
paper. The research paper must follow the current MLA format and guidelines to pass. See chart
below on how to properly format your paper. Separation of Primary and Secondary Sources are
required. Separate your bibliography into two sections: one for primary sources and one for
secondary sources. Some sources may be considered either primary or secondary so use your
annotations to explain your reason for classifying any sources that are not clearly primary or
secondary. Listing a source under both primary and secondary is not allowed. Each component of
the research paper will be assigned a grade and each component will then become part of the
research paper 's culminating final grade. Grading This grade is calculated to include the
component parts of the paper along with the final product. The research paper is worth 20% of the
final grade.  Topic Chosen–100 points  Brainstorm and Detailed Outline–100 points 
Source Cards (5 minimum)–100 points Sources should include a minimum of

Also, many professors only teach us MLA style, but this class can teach us two types of essay,
MLA and APA. I think that's great because APA also is popular, it's useful for us to know these
two types of essays. And from this class, I also learned that when we are writing causal
assignment, the most important reason should list at the last of all reasons rather than at the first
position. At last, I have some suggestions about REVEL. I tried to do the quiz on the revel but the
website said the quiz has not been assigned. However, I used it on my society class in the first
semester. So I have some thoughts about it. Frankly, I don't think revel suits for our class, especially
the quiz. The quiz always focuses on the contents in the text book,

Apa Formatting Reflection
I feel that I need to continue to work on my APA formatting as formatting your writings correctly is
extremely important. I am familiar with the APA formatting as I used this with both my Associates
and my Bachelors degree; however, over time I have found that I am forgetting the basic rules. I
have also always struggled with formating my citations correctly as the formatting depends on the
type of article.
I believe that I will use the Writing Center a great deal throughout the duration of my Masters degree
as I have found myself using this tool often in the past. I plan to utilize the all options in the Writing
Center, although, I believe that I will use the APA Styleand Format section more than any other
section. I will use this tool to

How My Writing Has Improved
After this semester of English 102, at Bristol Community College I feel that I have gained the
skill to articulate what I want to convey to the reader in many ways. I don't just look at
grammatical error, but instead I look for ways to make my sentences more effective and concise.
Nevertheless, I hope that this strategy will continue to help me improve my writing even further
on in the future. My strong points as a reader have also definitely improved after reading the
poems and stories we experienced this semester. Writing has been an important form of
expression for me. I find myself to be very soft spoken and speaking verbally is usually difficult
for me because I can't always seem to find the right words to say. I feel that I am more expressive
and have more control over what I want to say. While this semester progressed toward its end, I
have learned new writing skills and gradually learned how to engage with audiences. This skill
was very useful in meeting my course goals in English 102. I believe that I have grown at
organization and careful stream my thoughts as well. Before I would just begin writing my papers
without any plans or organization, along with no definite idea of where I would be going with the
assignments, but throughout this course I've learned that you should base your paper around your
thesis statement. Another skill I took from this class was to value my classmate's responses, from
their reactions made me much more aware that my main ideas

Why Would MLA Be Worth Learning?
Every society, household and paragraph has their own set of rules, which create clear outlines of
expectation, improve communication and prevent conflict. Modern Language Association or more
commonly known as MLA is the layout of which citation are stylized. Why would MLA be worth
learning? The demand for MLA format should be anticipated when attending university, whether it
required for a history essay or needed in a school article on literary criticism. Professors will be
expecting a clear and concise piece of work including citations from outer sources listed below.
MLA is the standardized format of citation and is globally known resulting in the lack of confusion.
However students could argue that MLA format is confusing, but they

Mla Reflection
I learned a lot by taking the MLA quiz. I found out that the books were italicized when cited. I
knew that if I was writing about a particular book to underline, but this was good advice. I also
learned that you do not write all the names of the authors in a citation only the first and then add
an "et al." after it. I learned how to limit the database because databases are so scary since it has
so much information. I now know how to restrict the search to what I want. I realized that the last
name of the author should be stated either in the sentence or the parenthesis. I also understand now
that you do not write the word page in the parenthesis is already implied. I knew that an ellipsis was
used to omit a sentence or words that are not needed

The different types of formatting I had to learn in college is getting out of hand. The all of the
different formats are loosely connected. The MLA format and endnotes are very similar in that
they are found at end of a paper, but you do not give put the author last name and page number
after it. I choose to use footnotes, because my laptop cannot decide what it wants to do. Another
difference is the lack of putting your last name before the page number in the header, but is similar
is APA Format. As you can tell I wrote off the script, because the paragraph was so lackluster. The
front, size of the front, the title located in the middle, and the front should stay in normal style. If I

Critical Analysis: MLA Format
Critical Analysis
For the past week we have been learning about critical analysis essays. Before coming to
composition I didn't know much about critical analysis essays, I knew they were conducted in
MLA Format and they were basically a comparison between two books. After learning more in class
I was informed more in–depth about critical analysis essays. In class we were taught that critical
analysis essays are to essentially be a comparison between articles, books, and or anything else to
help the reader better understand the work. Critical analysis essays are to incorporate a thesis
statement to give readers something to engage in when reading your essay, it gives some idea of
what this essay is going to be about. When constructing a

My biggest skill problem is APA formatting. I have always used MLA formatting, so when I

easier as I have to use it. And when I use Grammarly helps with all the other problems that I was
having when writing a paper.

Here are the key points I gathered from your analysis of the MLA chapters on titles:- Titles should be taken directly from the authoritative location in the work. - Capitalization should follow standard title capitalization rules, capitalizing principal words but not articles, prepositions, etc. - Independent, self-contained titles are usually italicized or in quotation marks.- Some titles, like sections of larger works, are capitalized but not italicized. It seems the main things to remember are using the authoritative title, following capitalization conventions, and italicizing/quoting independent titles while capitalizing but not stylizing titles of sections in larger works. Let me know if you have any other questions

  • 1. MLA Format Research Paper The MLA Format gives students a standard on which to write on. Students are expected to write in such a way that it is professional and informative. A person would not expect to get a job if he showed up to the interview in shorts and a tee shirt, because they would not have the professional appearance for an employer to think highly of them. If a paper is written in the incorrect format, than the person reviewing the paper will not feel that the paper is creditable or they would feel the writer just did not put in the effort. MLA formatting makes papers fit a uniformed look. With academic paper being formatted the same way, the paper becomes more comprehensible. • 2. What I Learned In Mla Format Reflection Essay Throughout this semester I have learned many valuable resources, and tools. The big thing you taught us was how to write and argument paper. Also I have learned different tools on summarizing, how to better my skills for peer reviews, new library skills, and MLA format. Most of these I already knew, but you taught us them more in depth, and you gave me better understandings of them. With writing an argumentative paper, it's important to have all the right facts, and make sure you have reliable sources. If you don't have the right facts or reliable sources nobody will want to read your argument; because you wont have the right facts to back up your points. When writing an argumentative paper, its good to know all the facts about each side. Knowing all the facts about each side is important, because people want to read...show more content... Like summarizing, and writing an essay I knew how to do it, but going in and listening to the speaker explain it to us helped a lot. I learned more on how to use the thesaurus, and all the different skills he taught us on using key words to looks information up. MLA format is something I have always kind of needed help with. Until this semester for some reason I could never really cite my sources that well. Its something I knew how to do, but when it came time to do it my mind went blank. When you went over everything on the bored that helped me so much (also because I took notes), but only because you told us to take them. With MLA format I learned that when quoting, if its more than three lines you have to use block quote. I didn't know that till I got to this class. In summary, all these skills will be helpful for my next few college years, and when I go off to get jobs. Thank you for teaching us everything you have. From something you are supposed to teach to common sense things. You are a wonderful teacher, and I'm so glad you were my Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. APA Style Analysis APA Style Sample APA (American Psychological Association) style is primarily used in the social science disciplines. It is formatted like MLA, and shows many similarities, but is unique in several key points. APA uses parenthetical (or in–text) citations within sentences, but rather than indicating the author's name and page number, APA includes author's name anddate of publication. The page number, represented with a p. or a pp., is only added to the citation when using a direct quote (not a summary or paraphrase). If the author's name is mentioned in the sentence, then place the date of publication in parentheses directly after the name. If the name is...show more content... All of the interviewees have been called 'exceptions to the norm' (Strong & Porter, 1998, p. 565). Note the first example paraphrases an author that is named in the sentence, the second example paraphrases authors that are not named in the sentence, and the third example provides a direct quote (thus the inclusion of the page numbers) but also does not identify the authors within the sentence. If the authors were identified within the sentence in the third example, the authors' names would be followed by the year of publication and only the page numbers would be in the parentheses at the end of the quote. Finally, the bibliographic page in APA style differs from MLA, what APA calls the Reference page. You will notice a few immediate differences from the MLA Works Cited format. With APA you include the initial of the author's first name rather than the complete name, the publication date immediately follows the author's name in parentheses, and titles of articles are not surrounded with quotation marks (however titles of books, magazines, journals, etc are still underlined). The lists are still alphabetized by author's last name (or title in the absence of an author) and the first line is flush left while subsequent lines in the same entry are indented in (approximately 5 spaces or one tab). For journals and magazines, publication title and volume number are both underlined, Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 8. MLA Title Analysis I finally finished reading the chapters from the MLA Handbook that were assigned for this week. From the chapter about Titles of Sources, I learned that if I want to use the title of the source in my writing, I should take the title from the authoritative location in the work. An exception to this rule is unusual typography, such as standardization of capitalization and subtitle punctuation. According to the chapter, capitalization is allowed for all principal words, such as nouns, pronouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs and subordinating conjunctions. However, some of the words cannot be capitalized. For example, articles, prepositions, conjunctions and infinitives when they fall in the middle of a title. If the source is self–contained and independent the title should be italicized or enclosed in quotation marks. However, there are a few exceptions where titles are capitalized but are not italicized or enclosed in quotation marks. For example, series, scripture, law, acts, musical compositions identified by form, number, and key, etc. When the title is indicated by double quotation marks (title within a title), I learned to enclose the title in single quotation marks. Examples of these titles are poems and short stories. The...show more content... From this chapter I also learned how to quote from prose, poetry, and drama. In addition, this chapter discusses ellipsis points that are used to represent an omission from a direct quotation when it is cited by another writer. There may be some occasions when a writer need to alter a quote in order to prevent the audience from becoming confused. The 2,500–word limit does not apply to notes or to the annotated bibliography. In–text citations are required. If your sources are not acknowledged, your paper will receive a zero and will be required to be rewritten for a lower grade because this is considered plagiarism. No more than five quotations are allowed in your paper. The research paper must follow the current MLA format and guidelines to pass. See chart below on how to properly format your paper. Separation of Primary and Secondary Sources are required. Separate your bibliography into two sections: one for primary sources and one for secondary sources. Some sources may be considered either primary or secondary so use your annotations to explain your reason for classifying any sources that are not clearly primary or secondary. Listing a source under both primary and secondary is not allowed. Each component of the research paper will be assigned a grade and each component will then become part of the research paper 's culminating final grade. And from this class, I also learned that when we are writing causal assignment, the most important reason should list at the last of all reasons rather than at the first position. At last, I have some suggestions about REVEL. I tried to do the quiz on the revel but the website said the quiz has not been assigned. However, I used it on my society class in the first semester. • 16. How My Writing Has Improved After this semester of English 102, at Bristol Community College I feel that I have gained the skill to articulate what I want to convey to the reader in many ways. I don't just look at grammatical error, but instead I look for ways to make my sentences more effective and concise. Nevertheless, I hope that this strategy will continue to help me improve my writing even further on in the future. My strong points as a reader have also definitely improved after reading the poems and stories we experienced this semester. Writing has been an important form of expression for me. I find myself to be very soft spoken and speaking verbally is usually difficult for me because I can't always seem to find the right words to say. I feel that I am more expressive and have more control over what I want to say. While this semester progressed toward its end, I have learned new writing skills and gradually learned how to engage with audiences. This skill was very useful in meeting my course goals in English 102. I believe that I have grown at organization and careful stream my thoughts as well. Before I would just begin writing my papers without any plans or organization, along with no definite idea of where I would be going with the assignments, but throughout this course I've learned that you should base your paper around your thesis statement. Another skill I took from this class was to value my classmate's responses, from their reactions made me much more aware that my main ideas Get more content on HelpWriting.net

I knew that if I was writing about a particular book to underline, but this was good advice. I also learned that you do not write all the names of the authors in a citation only the first and then add an "et al." after it. I learned how to limit the database because databases are so scary since it has so much information. I now know how to restrict the search to what I want. I realized that the last name of the author should be stated either in the sentence or the parenthesis. I also understand now that you do not write the word page in the parenthesis is already implied.
