Many managers devote a significant proportion of their time to communications both within and
outside the business.
Communication can be simply defined as the flow of information from one person to another.
Effective communications are, therefore, vital to the success of the business, since the delegation of
work, the feedback of information and the controlling of the business all rely on accurate, quick and
effective communication flows.
Good communication will reduce conflict and will prevent any misunderstandings of what is required
by employees.

interpret what the message is conveying) and act upon it as necessary.

Language and other methods of communication, which are appropriate in one semantic environment,
are usually not utilized in another semantic environment. For example in playgrounds and sports,
children use the expressions like "game plan" or "Captain of the ship" which cannot be used in a
different semantic environment for example workplace. Thus language used in one semantic

For the greatest success of the business, employees need interpersonal communication to connect
with their co–workers. A leadership expert, John C. Maxwell (2010) says: "Connecting goes beyond
words." (p. 41). Physically being in the same room, verbally speaking thoughts, engaging in eye
contact, and being able to see nonverbal responses are all important and add to a person's
understanding of the message being communicated and feeling a connection. Overall,
communicating face–to–face is more natural for employees. An employee knows who is hearing
what they are saying and seeing their nonverbal gestures. The employee can either get immediate
