◈ IT is a modern phenomenon that has dramatically changed the lives
of individuals and business
◈ IT includes management information systems used to automate
tasks and support decision making
◈ Business owners once had primitive tools. Today they can complete
their duties with much more efficiency with technological tools

◈ Computers were introduced sporadically in 1980s
◈ Use of computers and IT were propagated by the private
sectors and private individuals
◈ DSI International started in 1980s which was software
development firm. Trained a large number of local youths
in computer and hardware

◈ Mercantile picked up where DSI left and went on to fuel the growth
of IT including cyber cafes in the Kathmandu Valley. They also hired
many trainees and employees of DSI.
◈ Another prominent name in IT was Muni Shakya who was known as
the father of Nepali software

◈ Establishment of Nepal Bank Limited on 30th Kartik,
1994 B.S. (1938 A.D.)
◈ Introduction of Credit Cards in Nepal in early 1990 (by
NABIL Bank)
◈ Automated Teller Machine (ATM) was first introduced by
Himalayan Bank Ltd.

introduce TeleBanking (Telephone Banking) in Nepal.

Banking (or Mobile Banking) in Nepal in the year 2004

⬥ With the increase in Internet users in Nepal, the broadband service has
increased dramatically in last few years.
⬥ 15 ISPs, 250,000 subscribers, nearly 1.6 million internet users. More than 35%
are corporate users.
