4. PREHISTORY
12.000 years ago our region was already
inhabited. Some of its settlers were
excellent artists as It´s shown in “Altamira
Caves”.
5. ANCIENT TIMES
During this period the Romans
occupied our territory. The Grand
Emperor Augustus had to come
here to defeat the brave cantabrian
warriors.
6. MIDDLE AGES
The Maior Christian pilgrimage
route passes through Cantabria.
It´s called “Way of St. James”.
That´s why we have beautiful
Romanesque buildings.
7. THE PERIOD FROM THE LAST DECADE
OF THE 15TH
Juan de la Cosa, who was a
cantabrian cartographer, took
part in the Discovery of the
Americas going aboard the ship
“Saint Mary”.
It was a period of progress
and splendour. This can be
seen through the impressive
palaces and rich houses that
embellish the countryside of
Cantabria.
8. CONTEMPORARY AGE
This is the time of the sustainable
development.
Our main goal is to progress but
respecting our natural environment.
