LOVE AND MARRIAGE 4
CAUSES OF SEXUAL ATTRACTION
CAUSES OF SEXUAL ATTRACTION
May be Aesthetic, Romantic, Sensual, Sexual
1 - Aesthetic Attraction
This is a constant theme of art
The appreciation of the “forms” is an artistic theme in all ages
The proportions of the body,
and the aesthetics of it’s graceful movements.
2 - Romantic – affective affinity
friendship where one is appreciated is favoured by everyone
Qualities such as thoughfulness, virtues like goodness,
generosity, and affection are valued highly.
It is easier to fall in love with a saint than a demon
3 - Sensual nearness
Strong friendship favours intimacy, nearness, tenderness
gestures which are more easily given and received
Sexual attraction
This contains elements of the previous mentioned,
aesthetic, romantic, and sensual causes
But it is also distinctly and specifically sexual.
The presence of the “other” excites sexually
with corresponding physical and psychological movements
In the male, attraction is the result of
mostly aesthetic and physical factors
Differences in sexes –
In the female,
attaction is
mostly the
result of the
psychological –
affective and
sensual factors
There is normally graduation and sequence in a relationship,
aesthetic – affective – closeness – sexual intimacy

LOVE AND MARRIAGE 5
•FREEDOM AND INTIMACY
Everyman and every woman, with normal health,
shares life with other men and women
Men and women live in communities in society
Sexual consciousness
can range from
latent to aroused
All have to learn to deal with each other
taking into consideration the totality of the person,
which includes their sexuality.
The attraction between the sexes tends toward sexual unión
Attraction at a distance leads to relating socially
Appreciation of the person behind the body,
can lead to strong emotional attachment
Although natural virtues make it easier to love a person,
the time and effort involved, is freely given by each partner
Though it
is easy to
“fall in love”
especially
with a certain
person with
many qualities
or virtues
yet letting oneself fall, or following up a relationship,
is a free act of the will.
discovering the other’s personality in it’s totality
requires time and attention
developing a relationship involves our liberty,
and is not just determined by nature or fate.
Although there are famous examples of love at first sight,
normally a relationship must pass through different phases

The dynamics of “agreeing with each other”
and going ahead with the relationship
is fruit of free decisions on both sides.
Progress is made and the relationship deepens
There arrives in the relationship a moment to pass onto
a new superior level, - The level of sexual intimacy.
Though sexual instinct
may be very powerful,
as mentioned,
the actual unión of a pair
involves the concessions
of free will on both sides.
They create the atmosphere
and circumstances
whereby they can pass
on to this new level
in their relationship.
It does not occur by accident,
but is prepared by many previous free acts
no matter how small and insignificant they seem
Sexual intimacy is a superior level in the relationship
It marks a divide
between before
and after,
because sexuality
is very intimate
and personal,
and affects
the psychology
of each partner
powerfully.
in a loving relationship, each one may be more or less
conscious of different motives why they wish to live together.
Some couples are very introverted
and the affection and passion of their relationship
may absorb all their attention
Others are more capable of putting
their relationship in context and seeing
the dimensión of a life project together
the forming of a family together
Couples, according to their maturity,
competence and control, may determine
together when and how to pass on
to this new level of intimacy
Some for lack of reflection pass the line toward intimacy
without much thought, without much responsability
Others plan when and where to pass
to this stage - when to marry
and announce and proclaim their love
publicly, before the community.
Among christians this proclamation
will receive the blessing of the Church
(which comes from Christ)
called the sacrament of marriage.

LOVE AND MARRIAGE 6
HUMAN LOVE
Marriage, is not the effect of chance -
or the result of the blind evolution of natural forces.
- The couple freely enter into this like a contract.
It is not, merely a question of natural instinct or emotional drive.
It is above all, an act of the free will, whose trust is such
that it is meant not only to survive the joys and sorrows of daily life,
but also to grow, so that husband and wife become in a way one heart
and one soul, and together attain their human fulfillment.
This love is destined to help the couple
realize themselves in life more completely
HUMAN LOVE - has certain characteristics
It is love for a PERSON
in their uniqueness;
their temperament, character,
virtues and vices,
circumstances and background,
education and culture.
Both are unique and irrepetible
Their relationship and
union is also UNIQUE.
No two relationships
are the same –
Each couple will form
a unique family -
the childen with their own characters,
and order and sex, make infinite
possible combinations that give
a UNIQUE quality to all families.
It is a love which is TOTAL.
It is love for the totality of the other person,
in their completeness with the totality of my person
that very special form of personal friendship in which husband
and wife GENEROUSLY SHARE everything, allowing no unreasonable
exceptions and not thinking solely of their own convenience.
Whoever really loves his spouse
loves not only for what he receives,
but loves that partner for the partner's own sake,
content to be able to enrich the other with the gift of oneself
The acceptance of this commitment is FOREVER
Married love is also faithful and this until death.
It means committing yourself to this
individual in his/her entirety
which means as long
as they last in this life.
Therefore true love is FOREVER.
We cannot imagine marriage for a year or two,
putting limits on love as in the so called “trial marriage”
FAITHFUL AND EXCLUSIVE
It is not posible to give marital type love to more than one person
Because of it’s total and intímate nature (psychological, affective, passionate)
The love of a married couple is particular and special, just between them
And it cannot be duplicated or repeated with another
This is how husband and wife understand it on the day
on which, fully aware of what they are doing,
they freely vow themselves to one another in marriage.
Though this fidelity of husband and wife sometimes presents difficulties,
no one has the right to assert that it is impossible;
It is, on the contrary, always honorable and meritorious.
The example of countless married couples proves not only
that fidelity is in accord with the nature of marriage, but also
that it is the source of profound and enduring happiness.
Marriage is a natural institution, inscribed in the physical,
biological and psychological nature of man
Husband and wife, through that mutual gift of themselves,
which is specific and exclusive to them alone, develop that union
of two persons in which they perfect one another,
Fecund or fruitful
It is not confined
wholly to the loving
interchange of
husband and wife;
it also contrives
to go beyond this
to bring new life
into being.
and they participate in the natural laws of generation of new lives.
And in the social function of rearing these their children
This love is above all fully HUMAN,
a compound of SENSE and SPIRIT

Song by John Legend
'Cause all of me
Loves all of you
Love your curves and all your edges
All your perfect imperfections
Give your all to me
I'll give my all to you
You're my end and my beginning
Even when I lose I'm winning
'Cause I give you all of me
And you give me all of you,

  • 24. LOVE AND MARRIAGE 5 •FREEDOM AND INTIMACY
  • 25. Everyman and every woman, with normal health, shares life with other men and women Men and women live in communities in society
  • 26. Sexual consciousness can range from latent to aroused

  • 41. Progress is made and the relationship deepens
  • 42. There arrives in the relationship a moment to pass onto a new superior level, - The level of sexual intimacy.
  • 43. Though sexual instinct may be very powerful, as mentioned, the actual unión of a pair involves the concessions of free will on both sides. They create the atmosphere and circumstances whereby they can pass on to this new level in their relationship.
  • 44. It does not occur by accident, but is prepared by many previous free acts no matter how small and insignificant they seem
  • 45. Sexual intimacy is a superior level in the relationship
  • 46. It marks a divide between before and after, because sexuality is very intimate and personal, and affects the psychology of each partner powerfully.
  • 47. in a loving relationship, each one may be more or less conscious of different motives why they wish to live together.
  • 48. Some couples are very introverted and the affection and passion of their relationship may absorb all their attention
  • 49. Others are more capable of putting their relationship in context and seeing the dimensión of a life project together the forming of a family together
  • 50. Couples, according to their maturity, competence and control, may determine together when and how to pass on to this new level of intimacy
  • 51. Some for lack of reflection pass the line toward intimacy without much thought, without much responsability
  • 52. Others plan when and where to pass to this stage - when to marry

  • 55. •FREEDOM AND INTIMACY Men and women live in communities in society Everyman and everywoman, with normal health, shares life with other men and women Sexual consciousness can range from latent to aroused All have to learn to deal with each other taking into consideration the totality of the person, which includes their sexuality. The attraction between the sexes tends toward sexual unión Attraction at a distance leads to relating socially Appreciation of the person behind the body, can lead to strong emotional attachment Although nature and virtue make it easier to love a person The time and effort involved, is freely given by each partner, Though it is easy to “fall in love” especially with a certain person with many qualities or virtues Yet letting oneself fall, or follow up a relationship, is a free act of the will. Discovering the other’s personality in it’s totality requires time and attention Developing a relationship involves our liberty, and is not just determined by nature or fate. Although there are famous examples of love at first sight, normally a relationship must pass through different phases The dynamics of “agreeing with each other” and going ahead with the relationship is fruit of free decisions on both sides. Progress is made and the relationship deepens There arrives in the relationship a moment to pass onto a new superior level, The level of sexual intimacy. Though sexual instinct may be very powerful, as mentioned, the actual unión of a pair involves the concessions of free will on both sides. They create the atmosphere and circumstances whereby they can pass on to this new level. It does not occur by accident, but is prepared by many previous free acts no matter how small and insignificant they seem Sexual intimacy is a superior level in the relationship It marks a divide between before and after because sexualtiy is very intímate and personal, and affects the psychology of each partner powerfully. in a loving relationship, each one may be more or less conscious of different motives why they wish to live together. Some couples are very introverted and the affection and passion of their relationship may absorbs all their attention. Others are more capable of putting their relationship in context and seeing The dimensión of a life project together The forming of family; procreating children together. Couples, according to their maturity, competence and control, may determine together when and how to pass on to this new level of intimacy Some for lack of reflection pass the line toward intimacy without much thought, without much responsability Others plan when and where to pass to this stage, when to marry And announce and proclaim their love publicly, to the community. Among christians this proclamation will receive the blessing of the Church (which comes from Christ) called the sacrament of marriage.
