serious subject matter. The athlete
views the sport seriously.

focus on the message of the advert.
Minimal splashes of pink link to the
branding for the event.
Language used is direct and factual.
Showing of the precise nature of
the sport.
6. Annotate your copy of this advert to comment on:
The composition of the image
AND
The colours used
7.
8. Colours used are more in the pastel pallet and suggest femininity. This helps
the audience know the product is for women.
The composition is VERY significant as it focuses on the bottom and legs of
the woman. This can be seen as objectification. This becomes even more
significant when the woman is removed of identity by having NO HEAD in the
image.

11. What you could have said
Costume Setting Language
The two characters are
wearing very different
costumes to show their
role and power within the
advert.
The woman is a
stereotypical housewife
with an apron to show
this ‘service’ position.
The man however, has a
smart black suit which
suggests power and that
he is in control.
The setting of a kitchen
is used to further
reinforce the idea of
women belonging in the
home.
She is seen directly next
to the cooker, cementing
her ‘place’ within the
home.
The language used is
intended as speech from
the male in the advert,
again showing his
dominance in the
situation.
He is providing
reassurance and is quite
patronising to her
situation.
The woman’s ‘voice’ is of
no importance.
