Our kitchen and adjacent living room is open concept and we
will be utilizing large windows in both areas to bring in large
amounts of natural light.

The natural light will tie in with overall organic, open and airy
design of the space. The light coming from the windows will
reflect off the light finishes emphasizing the intent of our
design.
G E N E R A L L I G H T I N G
Since our kitchen will be about 150 square feet and will have
plenty of natural light coming in from the windows, we will use
6 recess cans for added lighting. The white cabinet finishes and
white quartz countertops will help reflect the light.
T A S K L I G H T I N G
The pendants over the island will emphasize our white quartz
countertops which will reflect a great amount of light.

LIGHTING SELECTIONS
Types of lighting required and why
* NATURAL LIGHTING
This kitchen has plenty of natural light flowing through
the casement windows adding to a sense of well being
* AMBIENT LIGHTING
Ambient or general lighting supports the room providing
softer light, thus setting the mood for functions performed
* TASK LIGHTING
Above the large waterfall island, we have 3 pendant
lights for eating, meal prep, crafts or perhaps even fellowship
* ACCENT LIGHTING
The LED under cabinet strips are available in different
lengths and offer dimmers for more ambiance
How will lighting affect task and colors/finishes
* NATURAL LIGHTING
Having plenty of natural light allows the ability to
incorporate a rich navy color on the island, grounding the space
* AMBIENT LIGHTING
We have 7 flush mount recessed fixtures throughout the
space, including over the sink area, the white shaker
cabinets, snowbound walls, and Carrera quartz will also
reflect light
* TASK LIGHTING
The 3 reflective brass and white pendants over the island
will bounce light around the kitchen during activities
* ACCENT LIGHTING
The under cabinet LED dimmable lights give a warm
glow in daylight and even more at night, the softer light
during the night offers the advantage of not requiring
brighter overhead lights
