Proper APA Formating In-Text Citations
It is important to learn and utilize proper APA formatting of in–text citations and references because
it gives credit to the sources you used to complete your research.
As a student and a person in general, I don't know everything. So, to make my research paper or
essay credible, I use sources from someone who knows what they're talking about to make my
research credible and accurate. If I don't cite sources, It would be plagiarism because I used
someone else's words as my own. Plagiarism is unethical and possibly a crime. That is why it is
important to use proper APA formatting for in–text citations and references.

Turnitin Answers
Turnitin Answers 1. Checking the similarity index using Turnitin is very helpful because students
can utilize it as a citation proofreader. That is a great idea for individuals who become perplexed as
they try to figure out if their work needs citations. According to Stoley, Brizee and Paiz (2013)
common sense statements do not need citations. However, many times what we believe to be
common sense statements probably is not (Stoley et al., 2013). Checking my similarity index using
the Turnitin website is also helpful because it encourages others to respect my words and creations.
For example, the words that I write in a published book belong to me. No one else has the right to

Comparing Endnote, Zotero And Mendeley Reference...
Abstract:
A personal bibliographic database which holds the information about each book, chapter, article, or
any other type of material which you have read or used as part of your study and research can be
built by a Reference management software. The user can download records for material which he
had read from online searches and can use the software to insert references into the Word
documents. According to the chosen style the software will format the citations and bibliography. In
this paper we are going to compare Endnote, Zotero and Mendeley reference management software's
based on their capability of generating accurate bibliographies and their features.

Literature review:
After the development of the Reference Management Software (RMs) the research landscape has
witnessed a bigger change. People have moved from the PC revolution of the 1980s to the World
Wide Web and finally Web 2.0 (O 'Reilly 2005). The traditional RMs were developed for desktop
which required floppy disk and they had some major features that are available in present day RMs.
They exhibit features such as organizing references, storing references and creating bibliographies in
a variety of styles and also had a feature of word processing integration (Warling 1992). In today 's
world of open–source and Web 2.0 start–ups, there is a corresponding emergence of RMs that are
tailored to the demands of users with different needs and expectations. In today's world there is a
greater demand for the RMs. The platform where one author produces content for many has been

MLA Style Vs APA Style Analysis
MLA style is widely used in humanities fields, whereas APA style is commonly used in social
science fields. Citations will be used throughout a paper when quoting from a source using the exact
words. MLA style documents the last name of the author's as well as the page number of where the
cited information is found in the physical text. In contrast, APA style documents the author's last
name and the year the source document was published in the physical text, these are called in–text
citations. Both styles have a full list of references at the end of the paper. MLA style citations will be
listed as "Works Cited" and APA styles will be listed as "References". As long as the author and title
are included, MLA style does not require a URL

Importance Of Information On Creating A Works Cited Page
Information on creating a works cited page
When creating a Works Cited page, it is important to be aware of why one needs to create a Works
Cited page, it is used to show the reader the sources that the writer referenced in their essay, by
doing this the writer can be assured that they won't be accused of plagiarizing if they cite all of their
sources. The page of citations should be separate from the essay or paper that one is writing, it
usually is placed right after the final page of the paper that was written. The Works Cited page is
written similarly to the Title of the paper, at the top of the page and make sure that the two C's
(Capitalized and Centered), are applied when writing the words "Works Cited". The Works Cited
page should ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When writing the titles of books, articles, etc. capitalize each word in the titles. You must include the
names of anyone who contributed to the source which is relevant to your search, such as, the editors,
illustrators, translators, etc. If it so happens that a source is an edition or version of a work, you need
to also include that in your citation. If your source is one of the parts of a numbered sequence, then
those numbers must be listed. Then, list the publisher, if there are multiple relevant publishers, one
must separate them with a forward slash. Next, list the publication date, if there is more than one,
list the one that is most relevant to your use, but if unsure, use the original date to be safe. When
listing the location, it is imperative that one is as detailed and explicit as possible, such as, listing
page numbers, or listing a URL. Students now live in a time where everything is accessible online,
which is why most sources are sources found online, in order to properly cite the online sources one
should include the date the sourced was accessed, the use of URL's may be permitted by your
instructor but one should always double– check with their instructor before including a URL as a
source because it can change at any point in time. A DOI ( digital object identifier) is more reliable,

Reflective Essay: This World's Fire
When I began this course I had heard rumors of the strict and harsh grading, but I brushed them
aside, believing that were false. I thought that writing an effective essay was simple: present a thesis
and support it with evidence and reason. Despite my beliefs and thoughts, I never imaged that this
course would be as challenging as it was. This course forged longs nights of anxiety and stress to
meet deadlines. I had many ups and downs through the twelve week course, often struggling with a
different area of my writing week to week. Although I faced different obstacles every week, I could
not shake one challenging aspect of my writing: in–text citations. In all of my of my essays I
displayed little knowledge or incorrect use of a necessary element of effective writing. I
demonstrated this in my Harambe citation in "This World's Fire", my volunteer requirements in "A
Helping Hand", and my professional rate statistics citation in "Pay to Play?". ... Show more content

After reading the feedback from my instructor, I realized that my in–text citations need more than
just a tweak here or there. When I introduced my topic about Harambe's death and described the
incident, I did not know what the writing handbook instructed to do with online sources, therefore,
resulting in an incorrect citation. The writing book claimed that when an online source has an
author, MLA prefers that you introduce the author into the sentence. I had cited the source by
putting the author's name in parenthesis at the end of the material derived from that website. As I
was proofreading for my final draft, I made a conscious effort to introduce the author's name
preceding to the information from that source. Instead of citing the author's name at the end of the
sentence I introduced the author's name accordingly as the writing book demonstrated ("My World's

Plagiarism: Annotated Bibliography
Proper citation is essential in any written work. The format style may be the American
Psychological Association (A.P.A.) citation, which emphasizes authorship, or the Modern Language
Association (M.L.A.) citation that emphasizes creation date, or the Chicago Manual of Style
(C.M.S.) citation (Purdue, 2014). Regardless of which format style is required, the proper utilization
is important. It is not only necessary to avoid the negative consequences of plagiarism, but also
provides some significant benefits.
Whether one is paraphrasing, summarizing or quoting another's work, proper in text and reference
citation is needed. Taking a section of another source's work and rewriting it into your own words is
paraphrasing. Summarizing on the other hand, is presenting your own take on another source's
material, generally condensing the full material into the principle point (Driscoll & Brizee, 2013).
Quoting a source, however, is writing someone else's material using their exact words in quotations.
Plagiarism.org (n.d.) recommends to "quote material when you believe the way the original author
expresses an idea is the most effective means of communicating the point you want to make". ...

is a serious offense. Firstly, it confirms that you have prepared your material with necessary
research, and in so doing added support to your position (University Library Service, Cardiff

references "allows the reader to locate the material you consulted" (U.L.S., Cardiff University, n.d),

The Harvard Referencing Style In Academic Literature
Introduction Referencing is one of the most important aspects of any academic literature in the
modern day scenario. It is the main way through which someone acknowledges the fact that they
have borrowed the ideas of someone else, and have used their work for citation ion their work.
There are several different kinds of referencing system among which the Harvard referencing style
is one of the most popular. The different aspects of the Harvard style along with the main methods
through which the style is implemented have been detailed and discussed. Herein, this study is about
the Harvard referencing style and detailing the actual point of referencing in the first place. The
Actual Point of Referencing Referencing is extremely important while compiling an academic file,
as it is the main method of showing acknowledgement to the authors of the work which has been
used for ideas in the said academic literature. A failure in this regard leads to people developing the
misconception that the author has cheated or plagiarised someone else's work and is now claiming it
as their own. Any kind of plagiarism is considered to be a serious offence, especially in the
academic circles. Being accused of the malpractice of plagiarism is one of the worst hits that the
reputation of a researcher can ever receive. Indeed, it is significantly difficult to recover a proper
reputation once accusations of this kind are made towards someone. For students, being accused of

things I remember from high school, but other things are new to me. Focusing on my weaknesses is
key while acknowledging me strengths. As a writer, I can find good research and come up with
transition sentences but I tend to add extra information that is not relevant to the essay and I struggle

tell you to choose your own citation format as long as you use it consistently. If your instructor does

common citation formats are MLA (Modern Language Association) style, which is primarily used

Taking someone's words and using them without a proper citation is a problem. Without being
taught the correct way, this problem is not going to correct itself and will continue to become a
bigger problem. There are major consequences for plagiarising, but these can be avoided with a
simple citation. Tying together the definition of plagiarism, reasons for using documentation, and an
explanation of MLA 8 and APA citations will all be brought together. Learning what kind of citation,
and what needs a citation is a very important concept in becoming a successful writer. Citing a

These students were taught a life lesson, something that they will never do again. Being taught, the
correct way, at a young age will solve many of the problems that we have today. Becoming aware of
the consequences that this could lead to would be worth the extra time citing a document, or writing
your own paper. Taking someone's words or writing could lead to loss of job/school, fines, and so
much more. To avoid these problems, a simple citation will help anyone become aware that you did
give credit to the author. Jim Carnett published an article in the Los Angeles Times stating that he
had tried to submit a column to an editor but they sent it back because it contained plagiarised
material. Carnett said, "I lifted a portion of one of my columns and inserted it in the Daily Pilot
piece without attribution." He hadn't cited his own work and now what he did was plagiarism. To
Carnett, this was a total accident, but this shows that you should cite any information that you use.
Although there are arguments that there is no such thing as plagiarism, "If a novelist uses a non–
fiction book for research, how is that stealing? Non–fiction promises facts, there is no copyright in
facts, ergo no stealing..." (Independent.co.uk) it is always best to give credit to the source that you
received the information from; thus not having a chance of plagiarism.

Using In-Text Citations Analysis
It is important to use in–text citations so the instructor can identify where the student obtained the
information used in a students paper. In–text citations give credit to the original author and quickly
allows the instructor to realize that the information did not come from the student but from a
credible source. A full reference is utilized by the student to fully identify the author of the work
cited by the student in the paper utilizing in–text citations. Using both in–text citations and full
references will help the student avoid plagiarism and a failing grade and possible expulsion for
multiple offenses.
Everyone deserves credit for their work. I agree that students should cite their source when
providing information to their instructor.

Examples Of Annotated Bibliography
What is an annotated bibliography? When and why is it used? Also, what are in–text citations and
why do we use them? These are a few questions that we will be addressing in this paper, in addition
to many other questions about these topics. Let us start by defining an annotated bibliography. As
mentioned by Bullock et. al, "an annotated bibliography describes and gives publication information
for, and sometimes evaluate each work on a list of sources." (p.66) Additionally, an in–text citation
is defined as "a reference made within the body of text of an academic essay" ("What is an in–text
citation?", para. 1) We will discover their purpose, why they are important, how to construct them,
and when to use them. "The purpose of an annotated bibliography is to inform the reader of the
relevance, accuracy, and quality of the sources cited." ("Annotated Bibliography," 2007) It can be

al, 2017) It can be written in different ways, for example, if the author is mentioned in the sentence,
you would put just the page number in parenthesis, e.g. (263). If not, the parenthesis would include
the authors last name and page number, e.g. (Wordsworth 263). Additionally, there are many
guidelines depending on the type of source, what information is available, etc. Therefore, it is best to
research certain types of citations when you come across them.
In conclusion, we learned that the purpose of an annotated bibliography is to summarize or analyze
the source used for your research. Additionally, having an annotated bibliography has many benefits.
One example is the assistance in developing the proper thesis statement for your paper. With the
extensive summaries or analyzations, you can use this information to choose the right path for your
essay. The length and format of your annotated bibliography is dependent on the style you chose as

Plane Crash Of A Cessna Citation 550
Introduction This paper examines the plane crash of a Cessna Citation 550 which impacted into lake
Michigan shortly after takeoff. We will examine the flight crew involved, flight information, crash
details, and the accident investigations about the crash. On further analyzing crashes like this one,
we should have a better understanding on how CRM (crew resource management) and good flight
practices can make flights safer.
History of the Crew There are many factors to take into account when a plane crash occurs, one of
those is the crew and how they performed before the crash occurred. Crashes can happen to a young
pilot as well as a seasoned veteran, so we need to find out if the history of the captain and the first
officer can lead to more conclusions as to how this crash occurred.
Captain
The captain of the aircraft, as many individuals know, is the person who is ultimately responsible for
the safety of the passengers, crew, as well as the aircraft. That being said the captain or chief pilot
should have a good overall background to go along with many hours of flight time. The captain, age
59, was hired by Marlin Air as a line pilot on February 21, 2005. Marlin Air designated him as the
company's chief pilot and then, on August 15, 2005, he was appointed by the Federal Aviation

How I Enhanced My Citation Skills
The semester has been a learning experience and an adjustment. The Gender Bending in Rock, Pop,
and Hip Hop course was an eye opening and informative experience. It not only taught me about
gender bending, various talented artists, and styles of music but also a multitude of writing
techniques and elements. These writing elements have helped me further strengthen my writing
ability. There are two elements that I have found to be extremely helpful throughout numerous
writing assignments are citations and supporting paragraphs. In this essay I will talk about how I
enhanced my citation skills, learned the power of supporting paragraphs and can pass the knowledge
onto others.
To have a strong impact on a reader and really cause them to think, change their minds, or learn
something new, as the writer, it is important to have strong supporting paragraphs. This was
something that I had previous knowledge of before it was discussed in class. Supporting paragraphs
are used to help the reader get the point that is trying to be made. They provide the thesis with the
supporting evidence that it needs. The thesis is the "road map" and the supporting paragraphs are the
pit stops along the way to the final destination. Each pit stop, has an adventure making the overall
journey a true learning experience. I applied this concept to my own work when writing the research
blog. The goal of my blog was to inform people about some misconceptions of feminism and what

offences are often harsh and life altering. One can lose credibility, lose a hard–earned reputation, be

knowledge information does not require documentation. It defines common knowledge as "widely

Plagiarism Is A Form Of Cheating
Essay on Plagiarism Nahien Chowdhury University of Florida What Constitutes Plagiarism?
Plagiarism is a form of cheating, and a serious violation of the honor code and academic honesty in
educational institutions. According to dictionary.com, plagiarism is: a piece of writing or other work
reflecting such unauthorized use or imitation [1]. In simplified terms, plagiarism is taking and using
some else's work without giving credit to the righteous owner, for using their information. This work
includes but is not limited to text, graphs, pictures, statistics, or other types of information that is not

Regardless of intention, plagiarism is considered as academic dishonesty, thus penalties are still
applied. Plagiarism is not just limited to taking information from resources without citations.
According to Theresa Ireton, an assistant professor of writing in Centralia College, Washington,
there are also subcategories of plagiarism in writing, such as plagiarism of structure, authorship, and
plagiarism of self [4]. It is considered a plagiarism of structure when an imitator is paraphrasing by
having different word choices than the original content. Plagiarism of authorship constitutes buying
and turning in duplicate copy of another person's work without any modifications whatsoever.
Plagiarism of self is when an individual tries to utilize previously completed work as a resubmission
for a different assignment. Even though the previous assignment is fully original content from an
individual, it still constitutes as cheating due to an unfair advantage. The use of images, videos, and
music in content without receiving permission or providing appropriate citation is also considered
plagiarism. These activities include copying images from websites and pasting them in papers or
websites, making videos while using copyrighted music as part of the sound track, and performing a
cover of another person's music. Other instances of plagiarism include photographs or scanned

Why Is Textual Evidence Important
Textual evidence is a main part of many essays, providing and backing up your paper. Citations
show where you received or learned your textual evidence. Citations have two forms, In– text and
Works Cited, both are equally important.Textual evidence and proper citation are important because
they provide intellect, are the backbone to your paper, and they show you know how to properly
write a paper. Textual evidence provides the backbone of your paper, without it you could be
thought untrustworthy. Others could think that you just made up your information. When using
textual evidence, you always need to properly cite. This gives credit to whoever you learned the
information from, and I believe also gives you a level of intellect. If another

In-Text Citation And Apa Format
Through writing I have learned the importance of citation and how there are different types of
formats when used in writing a paper. There are two mainly used styles that are known as in–text
citation and they give information about the sources you have used. After having your citation it is
important to add quotation marks before and after the text to show that it is not your original work.
After this, we have to have a work cited or a list of references of where we got our information.
There is APA, MLA, and other citation formats used in different kinds of writing. These formats
depend on the kind of teacher you have and the kind of style they want you to use. The APA format
style is more for psychology, education, and other social sciences.

Apa Questions On Apa Writing
APA Formatting APA Formatting is very different from MLA, with APA the most distinct thing is
the title page, this makes your paper look for professional and clean. APA still has other differences
compared to MLA that will explain in this paper. When writing in APA format you want to make
sure that you follow the step below on how to create a proper APA formatted paper. APA formatting
is the main format for liberal studies majors, and it is important for you to know how to correctly
write in it so you can have a structured and professional paper. General Information on APA In APA
writing you want to make sure you follow all of the steps that are necessary, and this paragraph will
give you general information about how to use and type your paper in APA format. According to
Purdue Owl, the first thing you should do is make sure your lines are double–spaced with 1"
margins on all sides, and APA recommends using 12 pt. Times New Roman font. That information is
similar to MLA in which you may be used to. Next you want to make sure that you include a page
header at the top of every page. On the first page (title page) the header should say "Running head:
TITLE" followed by a short title in all capitalization, and every page after should just have the short
title (2015). These are the basic outlines for APA that will help you to make sure that the foundation
of your paper is correctly laid out. On the website, Purdue OWL, it goes on to explain how when
you start to create the

Chicago–Style Citation Quick Guide The Chicago Manual of Style presents two basic
documentation systems: (1) notes and bibliography and (2) author–date. Choosing between the two
often depends on subject matter and the nature of sources cited, as each system is favored by
different groups of scholars. The notes and bibliography style is preferred by many in the
humanities, including those in literature, history, and the arts. This style presents bibliographic
information in notes and, often, a bibliography. It accommodates a variety of sources, including
esoteric ones less appropriate to the author–date system. The author–date system has long been used
by those in the physical, natural, and social sciences. In this system, sources are ... Show more

Advantages Of Using APA Style
APA style is well organized. When using APA style sources they can be identified and located
quickly in our writings. This style is chosen to use so that everyone will use the same format in their
writing. It is created to have an easier understanding of the text by providing everyone with the same
structure in their writing assignments or projects. In–text citations are used in writings to identify the
author and the source used. When using in–text citations in the approved manner, no one could
accuse you of plagiarism. Plagiarism is copying someone's work and not giving the source the
credit. When presenting ideas, facts, opinions or a quote from another source, an in–text citation
should be used along with the reference information

Literature Review : The Class Collage By Jeff Sommers
Genre Analysis
Introduction
Peer–reviewed articles are written by experts generally in a professional community. These articles
are reviewed by a number of experts in the same professional field before getting published. Peer–
reviewed insures the credibility and quality of the article is reliable for the discourse community.
Scholarly articles that are published in a professional community are quite similar to scholarly
articles that are not published in a professional community. "The Class Collage" by Jeff Sommers is
an article that's about the reflective writing process of students as they transfer knowledge through
their writing experience. "Sweatshops, Choice, and exploitation" by Matt Zwolinski is about the
ethical questions that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Zwolinski's article contains a larger amount of footnotes compared to Sommers's article. The
endnotes on each article appear before the work cited page. There are 75 end notes in Zwolinski's
article, while Sommers's article on the other hand, only had 3 end notes. First point of view is
invoked in both articles through the usage of the words I, my, myself, we, our. The authors behind
the writing both inflicted a didactic tone to educate the readers about their topic and their argument.
Zwolinski's article also showed a different tone that is a contemplative tone when he reflected on the
ethical issue of sweatshops. Along with the tone of the articles, both also showed usage of italicizing
words to show emphasis. Other stylistic feature that was apparent in the articles is the utilization
parenthesis and rhetorical questions. Before the introduction, an abstracted is included. The
information that it entails is a short summary that is to the point about the whole articles main ideas
and objective. Along with the abstract, both articles have headings that start with an introduction,
and end with a conclusion. Both have headings for each main point that need to be address. The only
difference is that sommer's article had bolded headings that were stationed at the left side of the
paper while Zwolinski's article had italicized headings that were stationed in the middle of the

MLA style also specifies guidelines for formatting manuscripts and using the English language in
writing and also provides a writers with a system for cross–referencing their sources––from their
parenthetical references to their works cited page. This cross–referencing system allows readers to
locate the publication information of source material. This is of great value for researchers who may
want to locate your sources for their own research projects. The proper use of MLA style also shows
the credibility of writers; such writers show accountability to their source material. Most
importantly, the use of MLA style can protect writers from accusations of plagiarism––the

Use either underlining or italics throughout your essay for highlighting the titles of longer works and
providing emphasis.
If you have any notes, include them on a page before your works cited page and format them the
same way as your works cited list.
Formatting the first page of your paper
Do not make a title page for your paper unless specifically requested.
Provide a double–spaced entry in the top left corner of the first page that lists your name, your
instructor's name, the course, and the date.
Create a header that numbers all pages consecutively in the upper right–hand corner, one–half inch
from the top and flush with the right margin. (Note: Your instructor or whoever is reading the
manuscript may ask that you omit the number on your first page. Always follow their guidelines.)
Center your title on the line below the header with your name, and begin your paper immediately
below the title.
Here is a sample first page of an essay in MLA style:

citations. For example, do not use semicolons between parallel citations (B18.1.2).
2. Proper Abbreviations (R6.1) Abbreviations are standardized for the title of a case and the citation

How To Write A Research Paper In Apa Format
APA Citation Format is a set of formal rules written by the American Psychological Association for
documenting sources when writing research papers for any of the social science disciplines.
The most recent set of guidelines can be found in the sixth edition of the Publication Manual of the
American Psychological Association released in July 2009. The purpose of the manual is to provide
a set of formal conventions that ensure clarity of communication, aid reader comprehension, avoid
plagiarism and build accurate reference citations.
The Basics
When writing a research paper, APA style requires that citations are located both in the text of the
body, as well as in a formal reference list section of the document. This article provides some
general guidelines on how in–text citations should be formatted. For a more in–depth explanation,
consult pages 169–179 of the Publication Manual. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When using APA format follow the author–date method of in–text citation. This means that the
author's last name and the year of publication for the source document should appear in the text like
(Richards, 2001). A more complete citation should appear in the reference list at the end of the
paper.
When writing your report, if you're just referring to an idea from another source, but not directly
quoting the material, you only have to make reference to the author and year of publication in your
in–text

Hieroglyphs of ancient Egypt in 3000 B.C.E. to the well recognized Greek scripts, writing has been
one of the best forms of communicating. With any type of writing there are specific types of
guidelines and rules that a writer must follow to sound intelligent to make the reader understand
him/her clearly. In the English language, there are different types of formats to write and hundreds
of ways to write in that format. For example, a simple poem can be wrote so many ways, and the
poem can either rhyme with a A–B–A–B format, A–A–B–B– format, or not even rhyme at all. When
it comes to essays, they need to be very precise and structured. In the

social science bibliographies. APA style specifies the names and order of headings, formatting, and
organization of citations and references, and the arrangement of tables, figures, footnotes, and
appendices, as well as other manuscript and documentation features. It uses parenthetical citation
within the text, listing the author's surname and the year of publication of the work, which is more
or less same as that of (MLA) style's parenthetical citations. It lists sources at the end of the paper,
on a References Page. Listing electronic sources of information is detailed in (APA) style than in

Proper APA Formating In-Text Citations

  • 1. Proper APA Formating In-Text Citations It is important to learn and utilize proper APA formatting of in–text citations and references because it gives credit to the sources you used to complete your research. As a student and a person in general, I don't know everything. So, to make my research paper or essay credible, I use sources from someone who knows what they're talking about to make my research credible and accurate. If I don't cite sources, It would be plagiarism because I used someone else's words as my own. Plagiarism is unethical and possibly a crime. That is why it is important to use proper APA formatting for in–text citations and references. • 3. Turnitin Answers Turnitin Answers 1. Checking the similarity index using Turnitin is very helpful because students can utilize it as a citation proofreader. That is a great idea for individuals who become perplexed as they try to figure out if their work needs citations. According to Stoley, Brizee and Paiz (2013) common sense statements do not need citations. However, many times what we believe to be common sense statements probably is not (Stoley et al., 2013). Checking my similarity index using the Turnitin website is also helpful because it encourages others to respect my words and creations. For example, the words that I write in a published book belong to me. No one else has the right to copy the words ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Abstract: A personal bibliographic database which holds the information about each book, chapter, article, or any other type of material which you have read or used as part of your study and research can be built by a Reference management software. The user can download records for material which he had read from online searches and can use the software to insert references into the Word documents. According to the chosen style the software will format the citations and bibliography. Work with word processing software to facilitate in–text citation Literature review: After the development of the Reference Management Software (RMs) the research landscape has witnessed a bigger change. People have moved from the PC revolution of the 1980s to the World Wide Web and finally Web 2.0 (O 'Reilly 2005). The traditional RMs were developed for desktop which required floppy disk and they had some major features that are available in present day RMs. They exhibit features such as organizing references, storing references and creating bibliographies in a variety of styles and also had a feature of word processing integration (Warling 1992). In today 's world of open–source and Web 2.0 start–ups, there is a corresponding emergence of RMs that are tailored to the demands of users with different needs and expectations. • 7. MLA Style Vs APA Style Analysis MLA style is widely used in humanities fields, whereas APA style is commonly used in social science fields. Citations will be used throughout a paper when quoting from a source using the exact words. MLA style documents the last name of the author's as well as the page number of where the cited information is found in the physical text. In contrast, APA style documents the author's last name and the year the source document was published in the physical text, these are called in–text citations. Both styles have a full list of references at the end of the paper. MLA style citations will be listed as "Works Cited" and APA styles will be listed as "References". • 11. Importance Of Information On Creating A Works Cited Page Information on creating a works cited page When creating a Works Cited page, it is important to be aware of why one needs to create a Works Cited page, it is used to show the reader the sources that the writer referenced in their essay, by doing this the writer can be assured that they won't be accused of plagiarizing if they cite all of their sources. The page of citations should be separate from the essay or paper that one is writing, it usually is placed right after the final page of the paper that was written. Then, list the publisher, if there are multiple relevant publishers, one must separate them with a forward slash. Next, list the publication date, if there is more than one, list the one that is most relevant to your use, but if unsure, use the original date to be safe. When listing the location, it is imperative that one is as detailed and explicit as possible, such as, listing page numbers, or listing a URL. Students now live in a time where everything is accessible online, which is why most sources are sources found online, in order to properly cite the online sources one should include the date the sourced was accessed, the use of URL's may be permitted by your instructor but one should always double– check with their instructor before including a URL as a source because it can change at any point in time. • 17. Reflective Essay: This World's Fire When I began this course I had heard rumors of the strict and harsh grading, but I brushed them aside, believing that were false. I thought that writing an effective essay was simple: present a thesis and support it with evidence and reason. Despite my beliefs and thoughts, I never imaged that this course would be as challenging as it was. This course forged longs nights of anxiety and stress to meet deadlines. I had many ups and downs through the twelve week course, often struggling with a different area of my writing week to week. Although I faced different obstacles every week, I could not shake one challenging aspect of my writing: in–text citations. In all of my of my essays I displayed little knowledge or incorrect use of a necessary element of effective writing. I demonstrated this in my Harambe citation in "This World's Fire", my volunteer requirements in "A Helping Hand", and my professional rate statistics citation in "Pay to Play?". ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After reading the feedback from my instructor, I realized that my in–text citations need more than just a tweak here or there. When I introduced my topic about Harambe's death and described the incident, I did not know what the writing handbook instructed to do with online sources, therefore, resulting in an incorrect citation. The writing book claimed that when an online source has an author, MLA prefers that you introduce the author into the sentence. I had cited the source by putting the author's name in parenthesis at the end of the material derived from that website. As I was proofreading for my final draft, I made a conscious effort to introduce the author's name preceding to the information from that source. Instead of citing the author's name at the end of the sentence I introduced the author's name accordingly as the writing book demonstrated ("My World's Fire" ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 19. Plagiarism: Annotated Bibliography Proper citation is essential in any written work. The format style may be the American Psychological Association (A.P.A.) citation, which emphasizes authorship, or the Modern Language Association (M.L.A.) citation that emphasizes creation date, or the Chicago Manual of Style (C.M.S.) citation (Purdue, 2014). Regardless of which format style is required, the proper utilization is important. It is not only necessary to avoid the negative consequences of plagiarism, but also provides some significant benefits. Whether one is paraphrasing, summarizing or quoting another's work, proper in text and reference citation is needed. Taking a section of another source's work and rewriting it into your own words is paraphrasing. Summarizing on the other hand, is presenting your own take on another source's material, generally condensing the full material into the principle point (Driscoll & Brizee, 2013). Quoting a source, however, is writing someone else's material using their exact words in quotations. Plagiarism.org (n.d.) recommends to "quote material when you believe the way the original author expresses an idea is the most effective means of communicating the point you want to make". ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are benefits for properly citing sources beyond solely avoiding a charge of plagiarism, which is a serious offense. Firstly, it confirms that you have prepared your material with necessary research, and in so doing added support to your position (University Library Service, Cardiff University, n.d.). In addition, accurate references "allows the reader to locate the material you consulted" (U.L.S., Cardiff University, n.d), enabling him to further his own research if ... • 21. The Harvard Referencing Style In Academic Literature Introduction Referencing is one of the most important aspects of any academic literature in the modern day scenario. It is the main way through which someone acknowledges the fact that they have borrowed the ideas of someone else, and have used their work for citation ion their work. There are several different kinds of referencing system among which the Harvard referencing style is one of the most popular. The different aspects of the Harvard style along with the main methods through which the style is implemented have been detailed and discussed. Herein, this study is about the Harvard referencing style and detailing the actual point of referencing in the first place. The Actual Point of Referencing Referencing is extremely important while compiling an academic file, as it is the main method of showing acknowledgement to the authors of the work which has been used for ideas in the said academic literature. A failure in this regard leads to people developing the misconception that the author has cheated or plagiarised someone else's work and is now claiming it as their own. Any kind of plagiarism is considered to be a serious offence, especially in the academic circles. Being accused of the malpractice of plagiarism is one of the worst hits that the reputation of a researcher can ever receive. Indeed, it is significantly difficult to recover a proper reputation once accusations of this kind are made towards someone. For students, being accused of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Focusing on my weaknesses is key while acknowledging me strengths. As a writer, I can find good research and come up with transition sentences but I tend to add extra information that is not relevant to the essay and I struggle with in–text citations. I have improved a lot when it comes to flowing into another paragraph by using a transition sentence. Without transitions the reader may think that I am just jumping from topic to topic, rather than I state the relevance of how the two paragraphs may connect. Some of your instructors will specify which citation format you should use; others will tell you to choose your own citation format as long as you use it consistently. If your instructor does not mention citation format at all, you should ask whether a particular format is required. The most common citation formats are MLA (Modern Language Association) style, which is primarily used for papers in the humanities; APA (American Psychological Association) style, which is primary used for papers in the social sciences; and Chicago style (The Chicago Manual of Style), which is used for both humanities and social ... • 27. Plagiarism Essay Examples Taking someone's words and using them without a proper citation is a problem. Without being taught the correct way, this problem is not going to correct itself and will continue to become a bigger problem. There are major consequences for plagiarising, but these can be avoided with a simple citation. Tying together the definition of plagiarism, reasons for using documentation, and an explanation of MLA 8 and APA citations will all be brought together. These students were taught a life lesson, something that they will never do again. Being taught, the correct way, at a young age will solve many of the problems that we have today. Becoming aware of the consequences that this could lead to would be worth the extra time citing a document, or writing your own paper. Taking someone's words or writing could lead to loss of job/school, fines, and so much more. To avoid these problems, a simple citation will help anyone become aware that you did give credit to the author. Jim Carnett published an article in the Los Angeles Times stating that he had tried to submit a column to an editor but they sent it back because it contained plagiarised material. Carnett said, "I lifted a portion of one of my columns and inserted it in the Daily Pilot piece without attribution." He hadn't cited his own work and now what he did was plagiarism. To Carnett, this was a total accident, but this shows that you should cite any information that you use. Although there are arguments that there is no such thing as plagiarism, "If a novelist uses a non– fiction book for research, how is that stealing? Non–fiction promises facts, there is no copyright in facts, ergo no stealing..." In–text citations give credit to the original author and quickly allows the instructor to realize that the information did not come from the student but from a credible source. A full reference is utilized by the student to fully identify the author of the work cited by the student in the paper utilizing in–text citations. • 31. Examples Of Annotated Bibliography What is an annotated bibliography? When and why is it used? Also, what are in–text citations and why do we use them? These are a few questions that we will be addressing in this paper, in addition to many other questions about these topics. Let us start by defining an annotated bibliography. As mentioned by Bullock et. al, "an annotated bibliography describes and gives publication information for, and sometimes evaluate each work on a list of sources." (p.66) Additionally, an in–text citation is defined as "a reference made within the body of text of an academic essay" ("What is an in–text citation?", para. 1) We will discover their purpose, why they are important, how to construct them, and when to use them. "The purpose of an annotated bibliography is to inform the reader of the relevance, accuracy, and quality of the sources cited." ("Annotated Bibliography," 2007) It can be done in one of two ... Additionally, there are many guidelines depending on the type of source, what information is available, etc. Therefore, it is best to research certain types of citations when you come across them. In conclusion, we learned that the purpose of an annotated bibliography is to summarize or analyze the source used for your research. Additionally, having an annotated bibliography has many benefits. One example is the assistance in developing the proper thesis statement for your paper. With the extensive summaries or analyzations, you can use this information to choose the right path for your essay. • 33. Plane Crash Of A Cessna Citation 550 Introduction This paper examines the plane crash of a Cessna Citation 550 which impacted into lake Michigan shortly after takeoff. We will examine the flight crew involved, flight information, crash details, and the accident investigations about the crash. On further analyzing crashes like this one, we should have a better understanding on how CRM (crew resource management) and good flight practices can make flights safer. History of the Crew There are many factors to take into account when a plane crash occurs, one of those is the crew and how they performed before the crash occurred. Crashes can happen to a young pilot as well as a seasoned veteran, so we need to find out if the history of the captain and the first officer can lead to more conclusions as to how this crash occurred. Captain The captain of the aircraft, as many individuals know, is the person who is ultimately responsible for the safety of the passengers, crew, as well as the aircraft. That being said the captain or chief pilot should have a good overall background to go along with many hours of flight time. The captain, age 59, was hired by Marlin Air as a line pilot on February 21, 2005. Marlin Air designated him as the company's chief pilot and then, on August 15, 2005, he was appointed by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) as Marlin Air's check airman in Cessna Citation 500/550 airplanes. The Gender Bending in Rock, Pop, and Hip Hop course was an eye opening and informative experience. It not only taught me about gender bending, various talented artists, and styles of music but also a multitude of writing techniques and elements. These writing elements have helped me further strengthen my writing ability. There are two elements that I have found to be extremely helpful throughout numerous writing assignments are citations and supporting paragraphs. In this essay I will talk about how I enhanced my citation skills, learned the power of supporting paragraphs and can pass the knowledge onto others. To have a strong impact on a reader and really cause them to think, change their minds, or learn something new, as the writer, it is important to have strong supporting paragraphs. This was something that I had previous knowledge of before it was discussed in class. Supporting paragraphs are used to help the reader get the point that is trying to be made. They provide the thesis with the supporting evidence that it needs. The thesis is the "road map" and the supporting paragraphs are the pit stops along the way to the final destination. Each pit stop, has an adventure making the overall journey a true learning experience. I applied this concept to my own work when writing the research blog. According to Theresa Ireton, an assistant professor of writing in Centralia College, Washington, there are also subcategories of plagiarism in writing, such as plagiarism of structure, authorship, and plagiarism of self [4]. It is considered a plagiarism of structure when an imitator is paraphrasing by having different word choices than the original content. Plagiarism of authorship constitutes buying and turning in duplicate copy of another person's work without any modifications whatsoever. Plagiarism of self is when an individual tries to utilize previously completed work as a resubmission for a different assignment. Even though the previous assignment is fully original content from an individual, it still constitutes as cheating due to an unfair advantage. The use of images, videos, and music in content without receiving permission or providing appropriate citation is also considered plagiarism.
