2. Masthead (Also known as Headline)
Must be short and refer directly to the story or issue
Informative but must not give to much away
Tells reader who exactly the article is about e.g. artist or celebrity
Puns to add comedic effect
3. Dominant Image
Relation to issue
Can often take up an entire page
Often placed to the left of the article but not always
Image should be the biggest thing on pages
Must be creative in order to instantly catch the eye of the reader
Pictures relate to the story e.g. singer or event
4. Pull Quote
Can be presented as a headline or alongside it
Quotes are often funny, dramatic or controversial to attract the readers attention.
Quotes give an insight into the artist life, feels like they are directly addressing the
reader themselves
Can be placed within text to break up article
Often taken from main article
5. Colour Scheme
Followers the same theme that runs throughout the entire magazine
Key conventions such as pull quote and masthead are highlighted with different
colours
Colours must contrast through the use of black and white and other simplistic
colours
Colours must have some connection to either the genre or the region
6. Introduction
Connects the headline to the article and leads the reader into it
Positioned under the headline
Often goes into a brief description of the artist or the event before the article goes
into much further detail
7. Main Article
Small font, but large enough to read
Plain aerial font so its easy to read
Split into columns
Text presented in a neat and tidy format
First columns must be interesting in order to not bore the reader
Page number and article text shares the same font
8. Drop Cap
Used at the beginning of an article
Tells the reader where to start
Stands out due to being capitalised and bold
Can often be presented in a different colour
Either one letter long or one word long
9. By-Lines
Placed underneath images to give credit to photogrpahers
Placed alongside articles
Small text
Sometimes placed sideways
10. Language and Register
Informal
Direct address
Slang words native to the region
Mature tone

Contains the masthead of the magazine on every page
