The Sun Has Long Since The Darkness Of The Night
The sun had long since made its way across hemisphere, dipping behind the mountains. There was
no moon tonight, and what light there is, was swallowed up in the darkness of the night, although
watching a sunset was the last thing on my mind tonight.
I felt unsettle as I strode up to the corner bar, located in a neighborhood I would never be caught in
during the day, yet alone in the dead of night, and though I have been watching it for weeks now,
always from the shadows and keeping my distance. Tonight purpose drove me forward.
Pushing the large aged wooden entryway open took more strength than I expected, yet finally giving
way as rusted hinges squealed my arrival. I was tired tonight and it took a few seconds for my eyes
to adjust, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
"Names Charlie, haven't' seen you here before, what'll it be?" Asked the bartender. "Stoli, make it
two shots no ice" I replied in a whispered voice, keeping my head down.
Flipping two shot glasses up from behind the counter with one hand, reaching for the vodka with the
other, there was a certain gracefulness in his movements.
I sat, sipping my Stoli and waited, still nursing my first shot, keeping the second for... breaking the
silence, the front door squealed open announcing yet another arrival. He was a tall handsome man,
muscular, with the hint of a five–o'clock shadow if you like that sort of thing. His eyes moved from
left to right, and then caught mine in the corner, I quickly averted my gaze, acting like he owned the
place he made a direct line to me. "Come here often, okay if I sit here, I mean you're alone right? He
asked as he intentionally brushed his body against mine as he nearly tripped into the barstool next to
me.
"Free country, sit where you want!" I said in with both disdain and the same hushed whisper.
"Haven't seen you here before, thought I knew all the pretty women come around here, what are you
drinking?"
"None of your business!"
"Don't be that way, just trying to be friendly."
"Stoli" I snipped
"Charlie, get me two more Stoli's" he shouted across the bar. Leaning into me, almost touching
again, he cocked his head trying to look into my eyes and said "green eyes, I

A Call From Casey's General Store
On 03 December 2015 at 1048 hours, a call from Casey 's General Store located at 400 Broadway
Ave, Godfrey, IL 62035, was placed to 911. Billie Joe Anderson, a clerk at Casey 's stated, "A young
woman came into the store and asked me to call the police for a domestic dispute at 900 Indiana."
She further indicated that the woman said, "The police needed to go to the 1300 block of Virginia
where the domestic dispute will be continuing."
Dispatch then contacted Madison County Sherriff 's Department, located at 405 Randle St
Edwardsville, IL 62025, explained the situation and dispatched us to 1300 block of Virginia.
I, Deputy Grant told dispatch to get in contact with the Billie Joe Anderson from Casey General
Store and get more information. I told them to find out the unknown woman 's name, (if known)
what she was driving, whom she was with, and what she was wearing, as well as any other
information the cshe could remember.
At 1048 hours, a second call came in to 911 from juvenile, Zach Michael Robins, 13 who reported a
domestic dispute at his residence located at 900 Indiana Ave, Godfrey, IL 62035. He stated, "My
parents are fighting and heading to the 1300 block of Virginia Avenue where my mother 's boyfriend
lives."
At 1051 hours, while dispatch was still on the line with the juvenile Zach Robins, a third call came
in to 911 indicating shots had been fired in the 1400 block Virginia Avenue. From Bocephus Rufus

What Is It About Our Childhoods That Make Us Want For...
What is it about our childhoods that make us want to write about them? Is it because those are the
first memories we can easily recover? Or is it because we like to relive those recollections over and
over? For me, It is neither. When it comes to my past I like to pretend in never happened. To say my
childhood was shitty is an understatement. I hated it and do my best to block it out entirely, but for
the purpose of this essay I have chosen to think back on it as much as I possible can to gather a
memory that I can write about. I must admit this has been challenging and I have thought about it
over and over. (Mostly over a bottle of scotch) What do I tell a group of strangers about my past?
Would they even believe me? Do I offer up my darkest secrets to a bunch of people that may or may
not judge me? With these questions in mind I have managed to come up with one episode from my
hellish upbringing that would not be terribly painful. This is my attempt at reminiscing about the
past and the first time writing about my malevolent bitch of a stepmother. One bright and early
Saturday morning I remember waking up to the sound of my younger brother Ryan pulling the knob
to the tv, so that he could binge watch his favorite morning Cartoons. (like he always did) He had
always been a morning person, no matter what time he went to bed. He always jumped out of bed
and headed straight for the old television in the living room. I on the other hand, had always been
the one who tried

Bloody Mary Short Story
Bloody Mary
I was having some friends over on Friday night. Friday the thirteenth of october to be exact. Me and
my four best friends. It was Erick, Jeff, Brady, and Trevor. We made food and watched movies and
talked where we were going hunting tomorrow. By midnight, we'd run out of things to do. We were
so bored. "Let's try that Bloody Mary thing," Trevor said. Erick, was sitting crossed–legged on his
sleeping bag, said, "What's the Bloody Mary thing?" Brady, who was laying on top of his own
sleeping bag on the far side of the room, said: "Come on, Erick. everyone knows the Bloody Mary
thing! You stand in front of the bathroom mirror with a lighted candle and say the Mary's name three
times. Then her ghost appears, looking just the way she did when she died; all horrible and bloody
with scars all over her face!" . "She sounds gorgeous. Just why, exactly, do you think I would want
to see the ghost of Bloody Mary?" Erick asked. "Why not?" I said from my spot on the air mattress
in the living room. "I've always wanted to see a ghost! It could be fun. Besides, I've heard she can
tell your future if you summon her correctly." "And if you don't summon her correctly, or if she's in
a bad mood, the ghost of Bloody Mary will rip your eyes out and leave your face horribly scarred,"
Jeff said dramatically. "Or you will be found dead with claw marks all over your face and body."
"Or you could be trapped in the mirror with Bloody Mary for eternity," Trevor

Personal Experience Is The World Can Not Be Fully...
Personal experience is a gateway to recollection, attitudes, and knowledge. By trying different ice
cream flavors an individual can establish a preferred flavor, by playing in the outdoors an individual
can decipher his or her ideal season, and by looking at an array of colors an individual can
determine a favorite hue. Without personal experience, an individual inherently lacks a certain depth
of knowledge about the qualitative components of experience, and can only hold understandings
based upon physical components. In Epiphenomenal Qualia, Frank Jackson asserts that physicalism
is false because the world cannot be fully described based solely upon physical descriptions.
Jackson proposes a thought experiment known as the Knowledge Argument that seeks to clarify the
distinction between formal knowledge and qualitative experience. Supporters of physicalism would
contend that the qualia is only relevant to ability, and formal understanding is the only significant
component to knowledge. However, Jackson's thought experiment successfully identifies an error in
physicalism by demonstrating that ability teaches a type of knowledge that cannot be taught through
purely physical terminology, which therefore affirms that physicalism proposes ideas that are narrow
to be entirely valid. Foremost, it is prudent to emphasize the difficulty in clearly defining
physicalism. The general idea is that science can tell us everything about the world. Specifically,
physicalism asserts that

College Is An Exciting Time For Any Student
College is an exciting time for any student. For many it's the first time they have fully been away
from home for an extended period of time and for the most part out from under the umbrella of their
parents influence and control. Whether it's a university an hour away, across the state and for a few
possibly across the country this is the first time you're considered an adult in the eyes of law and
free to make your own choices and decisions. The idea of going to college and deciding what career
you want to pursue is very exciting because you finally get to pursue your interests and determine if
that is in fact what you want to do for the rest of your life. However despite graduating high school
many of those fears and stigmas are still embedded in our minds and follow us to college. The fear
of being judged for your looks, clothing, interests, hobbies, and just overall what you just enjoy
doing. Many of these we can push past by finding friends with similar interests but the stigma with
eating alone for many is something they have a hard time trying to escape because of what it meant
in high school. Western Carolina is considered a small school compared to a school like East
Carolina University whose undergraduate enrollment is more than double the size of our entire
enrollment and UNC–Chapel Hill who is triple our entire enrollment which is just above ten
thousand. Regardless of the size of the school and having graduated with friends who attend all of
these schools one

Mary's Realms: A Narrative Fiction
Walking through the hallways, she heard the floorboards creak. She heard a squeaking sound and so
she stopped and listened. When she didn't hear it, she continued walking. She closed the door behind
her and entered the lobby. She heard the sound once more. It started to get quicker and all of a
sudden, it halted. She stayed quiet, yet she could feel the goosebumps slithering on her upper arms.
Hearing nothing, she entered the door to the archives and ventured inside. Looking through the
books, she noticed a slip of paper stuck between the pages of one book. Mary took it without even
thinking twice and slipped it into her pocket. Turning around, a young girl was beside her. Mary

Mary jumped and pushed her away roughly, the body falling on the floor however remaining still.
"Ma...ma" Mary stopped for a minute, before coming back to her own head. She stepped over the
girl and headed for the exit. She began heading toward the closed door down the hallway. When the
door creaked open, she saw many dolls perfectly set on tables parallel with each other. She looked
around, but kept the door open for she feared that she might get locked in. Right in the middle of the
room was an empty throne. Behind it, a giant painting. Taking the note from before, she realized that
it was written by her father. Humans are beautiful, but that beauty soon fades. She was so beautiful
until that illness destroyed her beauty. Luckily, after years of research, I have found "eternal beauty."
A body that will never fade even in death. A body as new as when they were as yet alive. Dolls. She
heard a creaking sound, and turning around, she spotted Frederick standing by the door. "Where is
my father?" "It seems as though your father has proceeded further into the underground labyrinth."
He mused, "Continue looking and maybe you'll have the capacity to affirm every one of your
answers," he said as he strolled through the entryway and vanished. Moving closer to the painting,
only knowing the cliches from the books she read, she thought about whether there was anything
behind it. Moving it to the side, uncovered another

The Day Of My Birthday Party Essay
Caregiver It was the day of my seventeenth birthday party and everything seemed to be going
perfect. I woke up early to shower and get ready because I had made plans with my boyfriend
Nathen to go to Mrs. J's for breakfast. I told my mom I loved her and that I would see her in about
an hour. I gave her a hug and kiss and stepped out the door. I got in my car and headed into town. It
is a ten minute drive from my house to orrville. I called Nathen and told him I was on my way. As
we started to order our food, I realized I had forgot to tell my mom what I wanted her to get me. I
texted her because when I left she told me she was going to finish the laundry and then run errands
to get everything for the day. As we finished our meals, I checked my phone and noticed that she
had never replied. I called her as we got outside and I could just tell from the tone in her voice that
something sounded wrong "Hey Mom, did you get my text?" "What? I can't talk on the phone right
now," she replied. She sounded as though she had just woken up from a nap. "Mom, did you fall
asleep? Nathen and I just got done and we're about to head back to the house. Are you okay?" I was
worried but I hoped that she did not hear it in my voice. "Yes Kelsi, i'm fine, i 'm just tired and I
need to go I can 't talk on the phone." this time, she sounded tired and angry. "Well wheres Bayli and
Dad?" I asked right as I remembered my dad had just gone to the hospital to see his friend. "Your

Sociological Group Matrix
Schaefer (2011) defines a group as "any number of people with similar norms, values, and
expectations who interact with one another on a regular basis" (p. 111). Complete the Social Group
Matrix by identifying and describing the relationship between yourself and the members of any
social group you are a part of.

Identify the group. The group I chose is my place of employment – Little School House of Altoona

She is not a planner either which is conflicting with what I do in the afternoon, as I never know what
she is going to do in the morning.
The other conflict is each teacher being responsible for his or her room before their shift ends.
Finally, I talked with the owner and the director about cleaning their rooms before they left for the
day, as I did not have time to clean their rooms, besides mine, and the bathrooms at the end of the
day. After our talk, things have been much better, now I just have to spot check the center, and I can
actually leave the center at descent time. Instead of a half hour after the center closed.
Role of language
Explain the role of language, and describe the components of nonverbal communication in the
group. In the center we use positive phrases like "walking feet" or "quiet feet," instead of no
running. "Inside voices," instead of shouting. Sing songs for transitioning from one activity to the
next. For instance, need to clean room before we go outside, we would sing a clean–up song. Instead
of nagging at them to pick up the toys. If the song does not help, I put the basket for the toys next to
the specific toy and say everyone pick up the blocks or let's see who can pick up the most. If we
have a lot of toys out – each person will have a basket and a specific area to clean–up.
Each teacher has an extra room they are responsible for. For instance, the blue room is near

Texas A&M Kingsville Should Provide Ceiling Fans to...
Texas A&M University Kingsville should provide ceiling fans to different areas of the school
Description of Problem: The proposal is that most school areas including Texas A&M University
Kingsville should provide fans in every part or unit of the school which includes the classrooms and
your room areas. Fans are used mainly for creating a current of air or breeze, especially a machine
using an electric motor to rotate and in order to move air that is used for cooling the area. The
problem of the proposal leading to making a change in convincing the school to provide fans in
different areas can come in many different ways. There are several problems that I want to discuss
that leads to schools providing fans to different areas. It includes that without fans in the school area
it can affect your health status, it can lead to dehydration in which your body loses more water than
it takes in and it can also lead to death. The first problem of the fans not being provided to different
parts of the school area is that it can lead to affecting your health. In general, a fan helps to cool the
surrounding when people are inside their rooms during the day. When there is no presence of fan,
most people would sweat and in a hot area with no cold atmosphere coming in through it could lead
to suffocation due to the presence of much heat.
The second problem is that it can lead to dehydration. In this aspect where a place or a surrounding
is hot you would sweat. This will

I was led past an eclectic amount of flowers and an unnecessary amount of fountains until I reached
the bench that leaned against the outer wall of the castle. This was the place I could truly be at ease
and not have to worry about stupid wedding plans. I was finally happy. I sat on the bench, leaned
back and let the sun wash over me. I eventually allowed it to lull me to sleep.
I awoke to the sounds of men shouting and a few screams from women. I sat abruptly and looked
around in confusion. I noticed it was still light out, when there was a momentary shadow that
loomed over me. I stared upwards as a huge burst of wind hit me. My jaw dropped at what caused
the wind. It was a dragon. The screams and shouts behind the outer wall made sense now. I withheld
the scream that was boiling up in the back of my throat. So far I was pretty certain the dragon had
not seen me. I just had to make it back inside to safety. This would be a more difficult task then
sneaking past a few guards though. Getting caught by them wouldn't cost me my life.
The dragon passed overhead again as I took my first shaky steps forward. I trailed back to the castle
staying as low as possible. I decided to increase my speed, finding the anticipation to be painful. A
shadow passed seemingly closer than the others and it spooked me. I took off running. My sporadic
movements caught the attention of the dragon. It flew low to me, its large wings almost knocking

The Pros And Cons Of AT & T
I listen to WTOP or HLN on my way to and from work every day. The other day, I heard a snippet
about AT&T working on an internet system that would provide "ultra–fast wireless broadband"
internet (Padla 2016). I was excited to hear the newscast, because we had to wait almost three years
before getting high speed internet, when we moved don to St Mary's county. The thought that there
are still people in our country that cannot get internet seems ridiculous.
Our country is so "online" that people without access must be miserable. Miserable is probably too
extreme, but sometimes it is hard to get a point across without facial expression. The Internet is

The routers will use modulated radio signals so they do not interfere with the existing lines The
routers may also be used to integrate the utility lines themselves. Being able to have "smart" lines
will help the utility companies monitor and fix problems quicker (Lindstrom 2016). It will be a win
win for all involved. John Donovan,Chief Strategy Officer and Group President, Technology and
Operations, AT&T, stated "Project Air Gig has tremendous potential to transform internet access
globally" (Padla) 2016. Bringing the internet to people who have no access will help children do
homework, families to communicate more, and communities to build. It will be a huge step towards

Mary Maloney: A Short Story
Mary Maloney sat in her room on a chair much like the one she used to own. The room was set up
quite nicely, she could tell her hosts had tried to make her room feel like a soothing, welcoming
environment. The room may have felt warm and cozy, but Mary's heart was cold and lonely. Staring
at the cream coloured wallpaper blankly, her mind started to wonder and she began to think of what
could happen now that she had committed such a horrible sin. Of course she was glad she got away
with it, but now it was just her and the baby all alone, no one to help her. What if the baby was a
boy? It was going to grow up without a father, he wouldn't have a proper role model, no child should

more than this amount may cause serious effects, even death, the bottle also read, "Caution if

Laura placed the cup of water gently on the bedside table.
"I believe they'll fix everything." Mary exclaimed forcing a smile upon her face to match Laura's.

Building A Room Decorating Ideas
Modern Room Decorating Ideas : How to Choose Wall Artwork
Great art can elevate a space, bring together an interior house design and add interest to a room. Art
work in your home can also communicate your style to your guests and speak to your personal
experience. However, choosing art pieces for your home can be daunting when you have no
experience in room design. Luckily, we have compiled a list of room decorating ideas that will help
you choose the right artwork for your home and its many spaces.
Don 't Settle
When looking for the right pieces to fill your living room, bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen and foyer,
do not settle. Above all else, it is advisable to get out and see what 's out there. Art exists in galleries,
at auctions, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Think About Your Space
Are you decorating your living room, home office, or bedroom? Spend time in the space and select
the most important and visible walls in those rooms. These walls should be considered the focal
points of your design. When choosing art for these spaces, consider the size that art will need to be
in order to take up enough visual space.
Match the size and shape of the pieces to the walls. For instance, if you have a long horizontal wall,
hang a long horizontal piece of art. In the same space, you could also hand a collection of pieces in
order to take up more horizontal space. By accentuating the height or length of the wall, you will be
making the room feel larger.
Choosing Art For Your Bedroom
When choosing art for your bedroom, it is important that you consider what it is you would like to
get out of the space. Is your bedroom a place of rest, a place to unwind, or a place for romance? The
style and mood of the art you choose should be in line with your overall plans for your bedroom
space. Because art is such an emotive tool, it is particularly important in your bedroom that the
colors of the art displayed help accomplish your bedroom 's overarching theme. For example, red is
the color of passion, and although a painting that uses a large swathe of red is great for a room
designated for romance, it may not be well–suited in a room designated for relaxation.

The Explanatory Gap: The Responses of Horgan and Papineau...
The Explanatory Gap: The Responses of Horgan and Papineau
The what it is like to undergo an experience is essential to understanding that experience. Known by
philosophers as subjective qualia, these characteristics are part of what makes a felt experience
exactly that experience. If we introspect our own mental states, this seems apparent and
incontrovertible. Most philosophers are unwilling to grant that subjective qualia are non–physical
states, and attempts to face this problem and maintain physicalism must address arguments from
qualia. While differing physical explanations for these subjective qualia exist, I will only briefly
refer to them here as qualia will serve only as a means of leading the reader to the Explanatory ...

The common example of introspecting one's own pain seems to reveal a transparent nature of
qualia– it is rather impossible to think of pain without thinking to some degree about actual pain and
therefore the phenomenal subjective qualities of pain. Or put another way, if pain is not quality of a
certain feeling then how could it be a pain at all?
The effort to explain this phenomenon has met unique difficulties, and from this apparent difficulty
arises the Explanatory Gap. Equipped with some physical theory about what those subjective qualia
are, there is the formidable problem that any such explanation seems to leave something out–
namely the what it is like of the experience. We can explain many qualities of things in the world if
we learn the science that sufficiently describes the quality(2). The wetness of water and the hardness
of diamonds may require some mental exercise but do not exceed one's ability to explain.
Furthermore, there are levels of explanation about each phenomenon, and the debate over primacy
may ensue(3), but at some level humans succeed in explaining many previous mysteries.
The Explanatory Gap is best illustrated by demonstrating one explanation that closes the Gap, and
then looking at how all attempts to explain phenomenal experiences fail to similarly close the Gap.

components that compose the liquid in a given

Dormitory
Dormitory History
From the beginning of the college in 1922 until the mid– to late 1960s, the college had functioned
predominantly as a commuter campus. Most of the students were Arkansas City or Cowley County
residents, certainly within driving distance to the college. The few who were non–residents were
able to obtain housing from private citizens.
During the 1960s, the number of students coming from outside Cowley County began to increase
dramatically. College personnel such as Del Heidebrecht, Ben Cleveland, Bill Scott, and Dr. Gwen
Nelson attempted to secure privately owned facilities in which students could rent. At the same time
enrollment was increasing, the college also was losing potential students because of a lack of ...

Its capacity was 40 students. Expansion of the facility began on Jan. 2, 1989, bringing the capacity
to 86 students. The building, now known as the Kirke W. Dale Dormitory, was completed in time for
the 1989 fall semester. The William R. Docking Dormitory was ready for occupancy at the
beginning of the 1994 fall semester, and the college's newest dormitory, Oscar Kimmell, was
completed in time for the start of the 2001 fall semester.
Typesssss
Traditional
Traditional–style dormitories consist of a room shared by two people with access to communal
bathrooms, laundry facilities and sometimes kitchens. The buildings may house both sexes, but
living spaces and communal bathrooms will be assigned to specific sexes usually by floor or by
section. The benefits of this style are that all facilities except individual dorm rooms will be cleaned
by janitorial staff. The downside of this style of dormitory is the lack of privacy that may occur in
communal bathrooms.
Suites
Suite–style dormitories consist of two or more rooms connected by a bathroom. Usually, there are
two people assigned to one room. Having a bathroom connected to your dorm room is convenient in
the middle of the night or when you need to grab a quick shower. However, it falls on the occupants
to clean the bathroom facilities
Single Rooms
Some colleges offer private rooms in their dormitories. These rooms will be occupied by one person.

Meredith Kercher : Studying Abroad
Meredith Kercher was studying abroad in Italy when she was murdered in November 2007. Before
long, the media was reporting horrific details of the murder of Meredith, and theorizing on what
could have happened. For the Perugian authorities, there was exceptional pressure to solve the
murder. The question now became who killed Meredith and how she was killed. Amanda Knox and
Raffaele Sollecito, immediately became persons of interest along with Rudy Guede. The evidence
presented was a kitchen knife, bra clasp, footprints, shoeprints, DNA and Behavior. Knox and her
then–boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito, were both found guilty of killing Kercher, receiving 26– and 25–
year prison sentences, respectively. In October 2011, Knox and Sollecito were acquitted and set free.
In March 2013, Knox was ordered to stand trial again for Kercher 's murder; Italy 's final court of
appeal, the Court of Cassation, overturned both Knox 's and Sollecito 's acquittals. Knox and
Sollecito were again found guilty of murder in February 2014, with Sollecito receiving a 25–year
prison sentence and Knox receiving a 28.5–year sentence. The Supreme Court of Italy overturned
her and Sollecito 's convictions in 2015; the ruling was the final decision. Rudy Guede was found
guilty of the murder and sexual assault of Meredith Kercher and sentenced to 30 years in prison.
On November first, 2007, Meredith Kercher was discovered ruthlessly killed in her room at the
cottage. She was discovered mostly nude, and

Sometimes there is shortage of workers. And there is problem in personal development of junior

any new promotions. Due to the increasing number of Travelodge there seems to be lacking of

Opportunities
Travelodge should must make some party place and function rooms. More permanent workers
should be collected and hire more marketing experts. With various offers the promotion and

Premier Inn has made the Travelodge second in budget hotel brand.

Use of Attics in Literature Essay
The Phenomenology of Space––Attic Memories and Secrets
Since Gilbert and Gubar's The Madwoman in the Attic, critics have assumed that attics house
madwomen. But they use that concept as a metaphor for their thesis, that women writers were
isolated and treated with approbation. In most literature, attics are dark, dusty, seldom–visited
storage areas, like that of the Tulliver house in The Mill on the Floss––a "great attic under the old
high–pitched roof," with "worm–eaten floors," "worm–eaten shelves," and "dark rafters festooned
with cobwebs"––a place thought to be "weird and ghostly." Attics do not house humans (not even
mad ones) they warehouse artifacts that carry personal and familial history––often a history that has
been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Attics make us think of history, interesting artifacts, old toys, books, clothes, linens, jewelry, and
other treasures–but, most of all, of deep, dark, and significant family secrets. It was in the attic of
the house that I grew up in that, as a snooping teenager, I found the packet of letters from my mother
to her first husband. Her FIRST husband. I had never dreamed that she had had but one husband––
my father. And had I not ferreted out those letters, I probably still would not know. Then, that night,
my father took me aside–I'm sure at my mother's urging–and confessed that he too had been married
and divorced before he met my mother. Whether particular attics hide such secrets hardly matters.
What matters is that psychologically we believe that they do. In fact, attics frequently house just the
sort of information I unearthed–facts that one is too attached to to throw away, but which one very
much wants to remain secret.
Before a discussion of attics can begin, it is essential to define what is meant by "attic" and to
distinguish attics from upper rooms. Not all third floor spaces are attics, because many larger houses
have and had third floor rooms that were normal living spaces, sometimeshaving bedrooms and
sometimes having a huge, finished room used for balls and other parties. Such rooms were
furnished, and comfortably habitable. Such is the case with a room that is often cited as an "attic"
that incarcerates a "madwoman," the upper room in "The

Analysis Of ' Epiphenomenal Qualia ' By Frank Jackson
In the paper "Epiphenomenal Qualia," Frank Jackson presents the concept of Qualia and the
knowledge argument in order to prove physicalism false. Jackson 's knowledge argument introduces
a thought experiment about a neuroscientist called Mary. His thought experiment is designed to
refute physicalism by showing that there is non–physical knowledge in the world. However, there
are many flaws in Jackson 's thought experiment that lead to its ultimate failure in proving that
physicalism is wrong, such as its appeal to a misleading intuition, the ambiguity of its premises, and
the assumption that it is possible to gain all physical knowledge of color from a colorless room.
Jackson explains that the goal of his paper is to refute physicalism by using an argument rather than
relying merely on intuitions. He makes a declaration that he is what people call a "qualia freak." He
describes qualia as the raw feel or quality of experiences that we have. There is something that the
"hurtfulness of pains, the itchiness of itches, pangs of jealousy... tasting a lemon, smelling a rose,
hearing a loud noise or seeing the sky" feels like (127). There 's a natural feeling or a sensation that
all these conscious experiences bring for the person experiencing them. Jackson claims that qualia
cannot be explained by any kind of physical information, since our knowledge of the structure of the
brain, its physical states, and the function of those states is not enough to tell us what the smell

Mary's Summary: The Black And White Room
In the black and white room, Mary learns everything that there is to know about the physical nature
of the world. "She knows all the physical facts about us and our environment". (IP, 291) When she
leaves the black and white room, or receives a color television, she will learn something new. She
will learn what it is like to experience colors. For example, Mary could know all the physical things
to know about the color red, but until she actually sees it and experiences it, she won't know what it
feels like to see the color red. When she does experience the color of red, she will learn new
information rather than just old information represented in a different way. This refutes the idea of
physicalism because it argues against the view that

My Observations At Rose Rock School Commenced
My observations at Rose Rock School commenced at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday morning, I climbed the
steps to get the doors and knocked on the door and only then noticed a small sign that said for
people to use the back door. The front door was then opened by a woman that asked if I was Megan,
I said yes. When I walked in I noticed that the rooms had no doors and the first room had most
likely been a living room and the room next to it a dining room. The lady that had let me in said she
would get Shanah and let her know I was here. I met Shanah and she explained that I would be
observing in the room that is next to the living room and that parents start dropping off their children
at eight in the morning.
While we talked, I asked Shanah how many children are in her group and she said thirteen children,
which included her own son that is one and a half years old. As we talked, the children started
arriving and she got them to sit down at the table and told them that they were going to make art
craft for their mother for mother's day. While Shanah was cutting the cloth, another caregiver came
into the room and I asked her what the ages the children in this group was and she replied that the
children in this group were between 1 ½ and 6 years old. After this caregiver left, I noticed one of
the older children asked who I was and she responded that I was watching their class to learn.

Separate but equal is the approach that my roommate and I took when we moved in. To keep things
separate, her things are on the left and mine are on the right. The equal part comes in if one of us
wants to use something of the others (such as a nail clipper or a hair tie.) This means that almost
anything we own is open to use with permission. We decided that we didn't want to combine any of
our things just yet because we didn't know each other that well. I believe it's a good idea because it
will reduce the chance of an argument over whose things are whose. Girls seem to be pettier about
their things than boys. Having two girls in such a small space can lead to unwanted confrontation

All of the red that I have overpowers her green so it's not as if we are "Decking the Halls." Another
visual that may catch the eye is the cleanliness of one side of the room compared to the other. The
right side, my side, is always neat and orderly but to the left is normally a wreck. Clothes are usually
everywhere and it makes for a cluttered looking room. When a room is cluttered it looks even
smaller. Sometimes when I walk through the door her towel and dirty clothes are right in the middle
of the floor. It's obvious to see that in most cases, she does not honor our "separate but equal" rule.
It's ironic that this is happening because she thought of the idea. I guess she is comfortable enough
with me now to join more of our belongings. Earlier I mentioned a little about the layout of my

Evaluating Mary's Room Thought Experiment By Frank Johnson
In the famous thought experiment by philosopher, Frank Johnson, Mary is known as the color
scientist who knows everything there is to know about color. Mary has lived in a room all her life
where the world seems to be black and white. Mary has the ability to see color she just does not
have any color to see as she is only exposed to black and white in her room. Mary learns all the
physical facts about color, how human eye sees and interacts with color and how the brain processes
the visual stimuli, provided by the textbook she has in her room. At this point, it is clear that Mary
knows all of the scientific and physical facts about the color, but one day when she finally escapes
her black and white world and steps out of her room for the first time, she encounters a red tomato,

"Mary's Room Thought Experiment" goes against the idea of Physicalism and I will explain why it
is so by laying out reasons in my paper further explaining that Mary does learns something new
when she escapes her black and white world for this first time and finally I will evaluate the
intuition this thought experiment invokes by providing to a counterargument to my position.
Physicalism is the belief that "all facts are physical facts". Physical facts are facts about the world
that we can learn in science text books. Such facts include, for example: Red light is about 650 nm.
The thought experiment argues against Physicalism by providing facts that are not physical facts.
Mary realizes that not everything can be explained perfectly through any kind of physical theory.
This embarks to ponder life and to ask ourselves, is the way we experience the world more than just
simple biochemical process in the brain? And knowing everything about a particular subject enough
or is there something more to it, like experiencing how it feels like to be in a

variety of periods and styles are brought together in harmony through the use of colour, texture,

The initial inspiration came from the local rope industry. Bridport used to be the centre of rope

in his article.
2. My discussion of Jacksons response to Churchland's argument is a bit weak and I know I should

3. Explaining what physicalism is and Jackson's responses to it in detail while respecting the page

4. Should I talk more about the different types of physicalism?
In his article "What Mary Didn 't Know" Frank Jackson comes up with a convincing argument,
which challenges physicalism, a theory of the mind, and its validity. In this paper I will look at
Jacksons argument, specifically his second premise, and whether or not his conclusion follows it. I
will also attempt to present the objections, which he presented to his paper and the replies he builds
against them.
Physicalism is the idea that the physical facts are all of the facts; which implies that if you know all
of the physical facts you know all facts. Physicalism is a type of substance monism and there are
several different kinds of physicalism, but it is not necessary to go into the specifics because Jackson
targets the validity of physicalism as a theory of the mind and not a specific type of physicalism.
Jackson's argument against physicalism, also known as the knowledge argument, is as follows:
(1) If Physicalism is true, then, for any domain, knowing all the physical facts in that domain is
knowing all the facts in that domain;
(2) For some

Is the use of Seclusion rooms and restraint appropriate for children on IEP's in public education

Seclusion and restraint has been a controversial topic in special education for a long time. Recently
there has been more talk over the use of seclusion rooms and restraint on violent children in the
public education setting. Many advocates feel that the use of such practices is unjust and unethical,
that it violates the fourteenth amendment, and that it puts students at risk for injury or harm. Others
however feel that such practices are necessary in certain circumstances. That when a child is causing

It was very traumatizing for him as he does not like to be touched by others. In this case we wrote it
into his IEP that the safe room would be used as a strategy to get him to safe place when he is being
harmful to himself or others. We place him in the safe room and he is able to calm himself down at
an exponential rate compared to when we had to restrain him physically. This is an example of when
a safe room is used appropriately and to the benefit of this child. Though we do not touch him
physically we take all precautions necessary. There is a scribe writing everything the child and the
teacher in charge says while in the safe room. The adult in charge has one hand on the handle of the
door at all times and has the child in eye view at all times. Once the child is calm, they are given the
choice to remain in the safe room for a few minutes longer with the door open, or they may come
out and process with the adult. These are all necessary steps that are taken by me and my staff to
ensure that the child's safety and well being are taken care of as well as the safety of the others in the
classroom. Education on the crucial steps and processes of safely using seclusion and restraint is so
important. This is why I am so drawn to this topic. With all the controversies surrounding seclusion
rooms and the threat of banning them, I feel this controversy needs to be addressed more.

Using Verbal Prompts To Organize Mary's Room
Mary wanted to organize her room daily using verbal prompting plus (3 or more) at 100% accuracy.
She had a success rate of 73% in November, 79% in December, and 78% in January. In November,
Mary required mainly verbal prompting plus (3 or more) in order to complete both steps of her room
cleaning task. She was unable to complete either step with any less than three verbal prompts during
the month. She required a few modeling prompts to dispose of trash and put her clothes away neatly.
On one occasion, Mary required physical prompts to remove stacks of papers from her dresser and
organize her bookshelf as well as put her clothing away neatly. Mary's percentage increased slightly
during December due to a decreased need for modeling prompts in order to organize her belongings

of modeling and verbal prompting plus on the majority of days. Mary required physical assistance

Welcoming Students Into The Classroom
Greeting and welcoming students into the classroom occurs before the first day of school. Making
sure that my name and the room number is large, clear, and visible outside the room prior to the
students arriving on the first day, allows for students to feel comfortable knowing they are entering
the right room. When it comes to the first day of school and everyday after that, greeting students
begins by meeting them before they get into the door. Being prepared for them before they walk in
is important. Meet them outside the door with a smile, and telling them good morning, or we are
going to have an awesome day, something to bring a positive environment, a positive message right
off the bat before any academic learning takes place helps with creating a positive classroom
environment if they see that the teacher is happy, energetic, and ready to go. As we get to learn
every student's name and getting to know what their interests are, adding their name to saying good
morning, and a high five, a fist bump, etc. will continue to make the student feel secure in the room
knowing the teacher cares about me, and wants to interact with me.
Classroom rules should be created by the students, but with the basics and the framework created by
the teacher. The teacher should know what the big ideas behind three to five main rules they want to
apply in their classroom, however, it should be up to the students to determine how to phrase, and
what they believe is important for their

Comparing Physicalists with Dualists
INTRODUCTION Are we just bundles of physical particles, or are we something more?
Throughout the history of the modern and ancient world, there have always been questions about
what is it that this world is made of and likewise, what we ourselves are made of. Do we actually
have this beautiful, ethereal thing called a soul, or is this some unsubstantiated claim that we just
like to believe because it makes us feel better? The philosophers questioning the nature of the
mind/"soul" and posing questions regarding them as those have traditionally articulated their into
two camps of theories (or at least an overwhelming majority fall into these camps). There are the
Physicalists, and there are the Dualists. To put their ideas in the most basic of terms is fairly easy.
Physicalists believe that 1) there is one thing/substance that constitutes the entirety of the universe
(namely matter) and 2) that is all there is and therefore, knowing the physical particles accounts for
everything (Stoljar 2009, 2 & 3). Dualists are quite a bit more ambiguous and flexible in regards to
theories, but think of them as "counter–physicalists". Most dualists subscribe to the overall belief
that 1) this universe is more than solely the physical 2) no matter what the physical particles do
constitute, be it 99.9999% of the world, it will never account for everything, and 3) the mind or soul
– or at the very least some of its qualities or capabilities – is one of those unaccountable things, and

Example Of Knowledge Argument
INTRODUCTION OF THE THESIS According to Currie (2015), philosophy is the activity of
searching for a reflective understanding of ourselves and also to know about the natural and social
worlds we live in. As we know, philosophy is also related to the phrase thinking about thinking. We
can get to know what is actually happening in this world and we also will solve some of the
confusions that we face in life. Knowledge is the fact and information of knowing something that
through some experiences. In addition, argument is the process of arguing or disagreeing about a
statement that has discussed. For example, we might argue about the statement that we have the
opposite view from the others so we start to make up some proves to solve this matter. In this
assignment, we will discuss about the knowledge argument. From a thesis that we have read, we
could identify its position stated by Frank Jackson.
Knowledge argument stands against physicalism which is proposed by Frank Jackson. Physicalism
or materialism is distinguished with phenomenal consciousness of experiences that depicts mind is
subjective and implies physicality.
Frank Jackson believes that the physical truth seen is not always the whole truth. There is also
phenomenal truths learnt through the things we see where ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Broad and Thomas Nagel. Thomas Nagel's "What is it Like to be a Bat?" has appeared in recent
writing, which brings the meaning of human need to understand how bats use the sonar system to
determine its direction (Alter, n.d.). I believe that those bats will never understand why they need to
use sonar for movement. So, why as a human we ought to understand it? Although every living
things are created by nature, which is abstract. Nagel (1974) said that we know everything there is to
know 'from an objective perspective' about the bats' sonar system but there also has something that
we do not know 'what it is like' with it (Rumelin,

Analysis Of The Book ' The Night '
CHAPTER TWENTY–SIX Dungeons, Smoke, and Mirrors The king's hands shook as he gripped
the arms of his gilded chair. "Set that monster there!" he shouted with such rage, the entire castle
trembled. The gruesome goblin shuffled over and plopped down on a wooden tripod stool in the
center of the dungeon floor. Argos came over and had to stoop so he didn't scrape his huge head on
the sloped ceiling. He squatted behind Gordok, wrapped chains around his wrists and ankles, then
melted into the dark shadows again. For a few moments, I stared at the monster and started to kind
of choke up, thinking about all we had gone through to capture him. I was still lost in thought when
Emma skipped down the stairs, smiling at me. She took a few steps, then screeched loud enough to
vibrate the cobwebs that were stretched across the corners of the room. "Eeew, yuck." She pointed to
Gordok who was still in a stupor. "That monster stinks like rotten fish. Wow! I'll talk to you later,"
she said and marched out of the dungeon and up the stairs. King Zander sighed. "You have my
things Aiden?" "Oh . . . Sorry. I almost forgot. Here," I handed him the golden key. He set it on top
of a small box with an inscription written in silver and it vanished. Then I gave him the wand and he
pointed it at the goblin and shouted "Awake!" Gordok opened his eyes and gave me a wick sneer.
"You are here before me," the king said, looking down upon the goblin in disgust, "so that I may

Physicalism Vs Knowledge Argument
The first half of this course has focused on many different philosophical theories that deal with the
mind–body problem. One of the most interesting of these theories is physicalism, which is the belief
that everything in this world is physical or that all facts are physical facts. There are many
arguments against physicalism, but one of the most well–known and most successful arguments is
the knowledge argument. The knowledge argument illustrates that physicalism is false. The
knowledge argument was created by Frank Jackson and he explained this argument in his paper,
"What Mary Didn't Know." This paper introduces the reader to a thought experiment that focuses on
Mary, a scientist, who is locked inside of a black and white ... Show more content on

Jackson specifically disagrees with premise one as the point of the knowledge argument is that Mary
does not know everything there is to know about brain states and their properties as she does not
know about the experience associated with them. Jackson correctly condenses the knowledge
argument in his response by stating that Mary, before her release, knows everything physical about
other people. Mary, before her release, does not know everything about other people because she
learns something new about them after she is released. Therefore, there are truths about others, and
herself, that the physicalist story leaves out. Churchland's first argument focuses on the idea that the
two types of knowledge are different and the first one can be considered "knowledge by description"
and the second kind of knowledge as "knowledge by acquaintance." Some people, such as David
Lewis and Laurence Nemirow, expand on Churchland's argument, which leads to a second, stronger
opposition to the knowledge argument that considers the mode of presentation. Lewis and Nemirow
criticize premise two and state that on Mary's release, she does not learn something new or acquire
knowledge in the relevant sense. When she is released, Mary acquires a certain "representational or
imaginative ability," meaning Mary acquires abilities, or knowledge how, as opposed to learning
truths, or

The Sun Has Long Since The Darkness Of The Night

  • 1. The Sun Has Long Since The Darkness Of The Night The sun had long since made its way across hemisphere, dipping behind the mountains. There was no moon tonight, and what light there is, was swallowed up in the darkness of the night, although watching a sunset was the last thing on my mind tonight. I felt unsettle as I strode up to the corner bar, located in a neighborhood I would never be caught in during the day, yet alone in the dead of night, and though I have been watching it for weeks now, always from the shadows and keeping my distance. Tonight purpose drove me forward. Pushing the large aged wooden entryway open took more strength than I expected, yet finally giving way as rusted hinges squealed my arrival. I was tired tonight and it took a few seconds for my eyes to adjust, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... "Names Charlie, haven't' seen you here before, what'll it be?" Asked the bartender. "Stoli, make it two shots no ice" I replied in a whispered voice, keeping my head down. Flipping two shot glasses up from behind the counter with one hand, reaching for the vodka with the other, there was a certain gracefulness in his movements. I sat, sipping my Stoli and waited, still nursing my first shot, keeping the second for... breaking the silence, the front door squealed open announcing yet another arrival. He was a tall handsome man, muscular, with the hint of a five–o'clock shadow if you like that sort of thing. His eyes moved from left to right, and then caught mine in the corner, I quickly averted my gaze, acting like he owned the place he made a direct line to me. "Come here often, okay if I sit here, I mean you're alone right? He asked as he intentionally brushed his body against mine as he nearly tripped into the barstool next to me. "Free country, sit where you want!" I said in with both disdain and the same hushed whisper. "Haven't seen you here before, thought I knew all the pretty women come around here, what are you drinking?" "None of your business!" "Don't be that way, just trying to be friendly." "Stoli" I snipped "Charlie, get me two more Stoli's" he shouted across the bar. Leaning into me, almost touching again, he cocked his head trying to look into my eyes and said "green eyes, I ... Billie Joe Anderson, a clerk at Casey 's stated, "A young woman came into the store and asked me to call the police for a domestic dispute at 900 Indiana." She further indicated that the woman said, "The police needed to go to the 1300 block of Virginia where the domestic dispute will be continuing." Dispatch then contacted Madison County Sherriff 's Department, located at 405 Randle St Edwardsville, IL 62025, explained the situation and dispatched us to 1300 block of Virginia. I, Deputy Grant told dispatch to get in contact with the Billie Joe Anderson from Casey General Store and get more information. I told them to find out the unknown woman 's name, (if known) what she was driving, whom she was with, and what she was wearing, as well as any other information the cshe could remember. At 1048 hours, a second call came in to 911 from juvenile, Zach Michael Robins, 13 who reported a domestic dispute at his residence located at 900 Indiana Ave, Godfrey, IL 62035. • 5. What Is It About Our Childhoods That Make Us Want For... What is it about our childhoods that make us want to write about them? Is it because those are the first memories we can easily recover? Or is it because we like to relive those recollections over and over? For me, It is neither. When it comes to my past I like to pretend in never happened. To say my childhood was shitty is an understatement. I hated it and do my best to block it out entirely, but for the purpose of this essay I have chosen to think back on it as much as I possible can to gather a memory that I can write about. I must admit this has been challenging and I have thought about it over and over. (Mostly over a bottle of scotch) What do I tell a group of strangers about my past? Would they even believe me? Do I offer up my darkest secrets to a bunch of people that may or may not judge me? With these questions in mind I have managed to come up with one episode from my hellish upbringing that would not be terribly painful. This is my attempt at reminiscing about the past and the first time writing about my malevolent bitch of a stepmother. One bright and early Saturday morning I remember waking up to the sound of my younger brother Ryan pulling the knob to the tv, so that he could binge watch his favorite morning Cartoons. (like he always did) He had always been a morning person, no matter what time he went to bed. He always jumped out of bed and headed straight for the old television in the living room. I on the other hand, had always been the one who tried ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Bloody Mary Short Story Bloody Mary I was having some friends over on Friday night. Friday the thirteenth of october to be exact. Me and my four best friends. It was Erick, Jeff, Brady, and Trevor. We made food and watched movies and talked where we were going hunting tomorrow. By midnight, we'd run out of things to do. We were so bored. "Let's try that Bloody Mary thing," Trevor said. Erick, was sitting crossed–legged on his sleeping bag, said, "What's the Bloody Mary thing?" Brady, who was laying on top of his own sleeping bag on the far side of the room, said: "Come on, Erick. everyone knows the Bloody Mary thing! You stand in front of the bathroom mirror with a lighted candle and say the Mary's name three times. Then her ghost appears, looking just the way she did when she died; all horrible and bloody with scars all over her face!" . "She sounds gorgeous. Just why, exactly, do you think I would want to see the ghost of Bloody Mary?" Erick asked. "Why not?" I said from my spot on the air mattress in the living room. "I've always wanted to see a ghost! It could be fun. Besides, I've heard she can tell your future if you summon her correctly." "And if you don't summon her correctly, or if she's in a bad mood, the ghost of Bloody Mary will rip your eyes out and leave your face horribly scarred," Jeff said dramatically. "Or you will be found dead with claw marks all over your face and body." "Or you could be trapped in the mirror with Bloody Mary for eternity," Trevor ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Personal Experience Is The World Can Not Be Fully... Personal experience is a gateway to recollection, attitudes, and knowledge. By trying different ice cream flavors an individual can establish a preferred flavor, by playing in the outdoors an individual can decipher his or her ideal season, and by looking at an array of colors an individual can determine a favorite hue. Without personal experience, an individual inherently lacks a certain depth of knowledge about the qualitative components of experience, and can only hold understandings based upon physical components. In Epiphenomenal Qualia, Frank Jackson asserts that physicalism is false because the world cannot be fully described based solely upon physical descriptions. Jackson proposes a thought experiment known as the Knowledge Argument that seeks to clarify the distinction between formal knowledge and qualitative experience. Supporters of physicalism would contend that the qualia is only relevant to ability, and formal understanding is the only significant component to knowledge. However, Jackson's thought experiment successfully identifies an error in physicalism by demonstrating that ability teaches a type of knowledge that cannot be taught through purely physical terminology, which therefore affirms that physicalism proposes ideas that are narrow to be entirely valid. Foremost, it is prudent to emphasize the difficulty in clearly defining physicalism. The general idea is that science can tell us everything about the world. Specifically, physicalism asserts that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. College Is An Exciting Time For Any Student College is an exciting time for any student. For many it's the first time they have fully been away from home for an extended period of time and for the most part out from under the umbrella of their parents influence and control. Whether it's a university an hour away, across the state and for a few possibly across the country this is the first time you're considered an adult in the eyes of law and free to make your own choices and decisions. The idea of going to college and deciding what career you want to pursue is very exciting because you finally get to pursue your interests and determine if that is in fact what you want to do for the rest of your life. However despite graduating high school many of those fears and stigmas are still embedded in our minds and follow us to college. The fear of being judged for your looks, clothing, interests, hobbies, and just overall what you just enjoy doing. Many of these we can push past by finding friends with similar interests but the stigma with eating alone for many is something they have a hard time trying to escape because of what it meant in high school. Western Carolina is considered a small school compared to a school like East Carolina University whose undergraduate enrollment is more than double the size of our entire enrollment and UNC–Chapel Hill who is triple our entire enrollment which is just above ten thousand. Regardless of the size of the school and having graduated with friends who attend all of these schools one ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When she didn't hear it, she continued walking. She closed the door behind her and entered the lobby. She heard the sound once more. It started to get quicker and all of a sudden, it halted. She stayed quiet, yet she could feel the goosebumps slithering on her upper arms. Hearing nothing, she entered the door to the archives and ventured inside. Looking through the books, she noticed a slip of paper stuck between the pages of one book. Mary took it without even thinking twice and slipped it into her pocket. When the door creaked open, she saw many dolls perfectly set on tables parallel with each other. She looked around, but kept the door open for she feared that she might get locked in. Right in the middle of the room was an empty throne. Behind it, a giant painting. Taking the note from before, she realized that it was written by her father. Humans are beautiful, but that beauty soon fades. She was so beautiful until that illness destroyed her beauty. Luckily, after years of research, I have found "eternal beauty." A body that will never fade even in death. A body as new as when they were as yet alive. Dolls. She heard a creaking sound, and turning around, she spotted Frederick standing by the door. • 17. The Day Of My Birthday Party Essay Caregiver It was the day of my seventeenth birthday party and everything seemed to be going perfect. I woke up early to shower and get ready because I had made plans with my boyfriend Nathen to go to Mrs. J's for breakfast. I told my mom I loved her and that I would see her in about an hour. I gave her a hug and kiss and stepped out the door. I got in my car and headed into town. It is a ten minute drive from my house to orrville. I called Nathen and told him I was on my way. As we started to order our food, I realized I had forgot to tell my mom what I wanted her to get me. I texted her because when I left she told me she was going to finish the laundry and then run errands to get everything for the day. As we finished our meals, I checked my phone and noticed that she had never replied. I called her as we got outside and I could just tell from the tone in her voice that something sounded wrong "Hey Mom, did you get my text?" "What? I can't talk on the phone right now," she replied. She sounded as though she had just woken up from a nap. "Mom, did you fall asleep? Nathen and I just got done and we're about to head back to the house. Are you okay?" I was worried but I hoped that she did not hear it in my voice. "Yes Kelsi, i'm fine, i 'm just tired and I need to go I can 't talk on the phone." this time, she sounded tired and angry. • 21. Texas A&M Kingsville Should Provide Ceiling Fans to... Texas A&M University Kingsville should provide ceiling fans to different areas of the school Description of Problem: The proposal is that most school areas including Texas A&M University Kingsville should provide fans in every part or unit of the school which includes the classrooms and your room areas. Fans are used mainly for creating a current of air or breeze, especially a machine using an electric motor to rotate and in order to move air that is used for cooling the area. The problem of the proposal leading to making a change in convincing the school to provide fans in different areas can come in many different ways. There are several problems that I want to discuss that leads to schools providing fans to different areas. It includes that without fans in the school area it can affect your health status, it can lead to dehydration in which your body loses more water than it takes in and it can also lead to death. The first problem of the fans not being provided to different parts of the school area is that it can lead to affecting your health. In general, a fan helps to cool the surrounding when people are inside their rooms during the day. When there is no presence of fan, most people would sweat and in a hot area with no cold atmosphere coming in through it could lead to suffocation due to the presence of much heat. The second problem is that it can lead to dehydration. In this aspect where a place or a surrounding is hot you would sweat. This will ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This was the place I could truly be at ease and not have to worry about stupid wedding plans. I was finally happy. I sat on the bench, leaned back and let the sun wash over me. I eventually allowed it to lull me to sleep. I awoke to the sounds of men shouting and a few screams from women. I sat abruptly and looked around in confusion. I noticed it was still light out, when there was a momentary shadow that loomed over me. I stared upwards as a huge burst of wind hit me. My jaw dropped at what caused the wind. It was a dragon. The screams and shouts behind the outer wall made sense now. I withheld the scream that was boiling up in the back of my throat. So far I was pretty certain the dragon had not seen me. I just had to make it back inside to safety. This would be a more difficult task then sneaking past a few guards though. Getting caught by them wouldn't cost me my life. The dragon passed overhead again as I took my first shaky steps forward. I trailed back to the castle staying as low as possible. Spend time in the space and select the most important and visible walls in those rooms. These walls should be considered the focal points of your design. When choosing art for these spaces, consider the size that art will need to be in order to take up enough visual space. Match the size and shape of the pieces to the walls. For instance, if you have a long horizontal wall, hang a long horizontal piece of art. In the same space, you could also hand a collection of pieces in order to take up more horizontal space. By accentuating the height or length of the wall, you will be making the room feel larger. Choosing Art For Your Bedroom When choosing art for your bedroom, it is important that you consider what it is you would like to get out of the space. Is your bedroom a place of rest, a place to unwind, or a place for romance? The style and mood of the art you choose should be in line with your overall plans for your bedroom space. The Explanatory Gap: The Responses of Horgan and Papineau The what it is like to undergo an experience is essential to understanding that experience. Known by philosophers as subjective qualia, these characteristics are part of what makes a felt experience exactly that experience. If we introspect our own mental states, this seems apparent and incontrovertible. Most philosophers are unwilling to grant that subjective qualia are non–physical states, and attempts to face this problem and maintain physicalism must address arguments from qualia. While differing physical explanations for these subjective qualia exist, I will only briefly refer to them here as qualia will serve only as a means of leading the reader to the Explanatory ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The common example of introspecting one's own pain seems to reveal a transparent nature of qualia– it is rather impossible to think of pain without thinking to some degree about actual pain and therefore the phenomenal subjective qualities of pain. Or put another way, if pain is not quality of a certain feeling then how could it be a pain at all? The effort to explain this phenomenon has met unique difficulties, and from this apparent difficulty arises the Explanatory Gap. Equipped with some physical theory about what those subjective qualia are, there is the formidable problem that any such explanation seems to leave something out– namely the what it is like of the experience. We can explain many qualities of things in the world if we learn the science that sufficiently describes the quality(2). The wetness of water and the hardness of diamonds may require some mental exercise but do not exceed one's ability to explain. Furthermore, there are levels of explanation about each phenomenon, and the debate over primacy may ensue(3), but at some level humans succeed in explaining many previous mysteries. The Explanatory Gap is best illustrated by demonstrating one explanation that closes the Gap, and then looking at how all attempts to explain phenomenal experiences fail to similarly close the Gap. But they use that concept as a metaphor for their thesis, that women writers were isolated and treated with approbation. In most literature, attics are dark, dusty, seldom–visited storage areas, like that of the Tulliver house in The Mill on the Floss––a "great attic under the old high–pitched roof," with "worm–eaten floors," "worm–eaten shelves," and "dark rafters festooned with cobwebs"––a place thought to be "weird and ghostly." Attics make us think of history, interesting artifacts, old toys, books, clothes, linens, jewelry, and other treasures–but, most of all, of deep, dark, and significant family secrets. It was in the attic of the house that I grew up in that, as a snooping teenager, I found the packet of letters from my mother to her first husband. Her FIRST husband. I had never dreamed that she had had but one husband–– my father. And had I not ferreted out those letters, I probably still would not know. Then, that night, my father took me aside–I'm sure at my mother's urging–and confessed that he too had been married and divorced before he met my mother. Whether particular attics hide such secrets hardly matters. What matters is that psychologically we believe that they do. In fact, attics frequently house just the sort of information I unearthed–facts that one is too attached to to throw away, but which one very much wants to remain secret. Before a discussion of attics can begin, it is essential to define what is meant by "attic" and to distinguish attics from upper rooms. Not all third floor spaces are attics, because many larger houses have and had third floor rooms that were normal living spaces, sometimeshaving bedrooms and sometimes having a huge, finished room used for balls and other parties. Such rooms were furnished, and comfortably habitable. Such is the case with a room that is often cited as an "attic" that incarcerates a "madwoman," the upper room in "The ... • 47. Analysis Of ' Epiphenomenal Qualia ' By Frank Jackson In the paper "Epiphenomenal Qualia," Frank Jackson presents the concept of Qualia and the knowledge argument in order to prove physicalism false. Jackson 's knowledge argument introduces a thought experiment about a neuroscientist called Mary. His thought experiment is designed to refute physicalism by showing that there is non–physical knowledge in the world. However, there are many flaws in Jackson 's thought experiment that lead to its ultimate failure in proving that physicalism is wrong, such as its appeal to a misleading intuition, the ambiguity of its premises, and the assumption that it is possible to gain all physical knowledge of color from a colorless room. Jackson explains that the goal of his paper is to refute physicalism by using an argument rather than relying merely on intuitions. He makes a declaration that he is what people call a "qualia freak." He describes qualia as the raw feel or quality of experiences that we have. There is something that the "hurtfulness of pains, the itchiness of itches, pangs of jealousy... tasting a lemon, smelling a rose, hearing a loud noise or seeing the sky" feels like (127). There 's a natural feeling or a sensation that all these conscious experiences bring for the person experiencing them. She will learn what it is like to experience colors. For example, Mary could know all the physical things to know about the color red, but until she actually sees it and experiences it, she won't know what it feels like to see the color red. When she does experience the color of red, she will learn new information rather than just old information represented in a different way. This refutes the idea of physicalism because it argues against the view that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 51. My Observations At Rose Rock School Commenced My observations at Rose Rock School commenced at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday morning, I climbed the steps to get the doors and knocked on the door and only then noticed a small sign that said for people to use the back door. The front door was then opened by a woman that asked if I was Megan, I said yes. When I walked in I noticed that the rooms had no doors and the first room had most likely been a living room and the room next to it a dining room. The lady that had let me in said she would get Shanah and let her know I was here. I met Shanah and she explained that I would be observing in the room that is next to the living room and that parents start dropping off their children at eight in the morning. While we talked, I asked Shanah how many children are in her group and she said thirteen children, which included her own son that is one and a half years old. As we talked, the children started arriving and she got them to sit down at the table and told them that they were going to make art craft for their mother for mother's day. While Shanah was cutting the cloth, another caregiver came into the room and I asked her what the ages the children in this group was and she replied that the children in this group were between 1 ½ and 6 years old. After this caregiver left, I noticed one of the older children asked who I was and she responded that I was watching their class to learn. • 55. Profile of a Place Essay Separate but equal is the approach that my roommate and I took when we moved in. To keep things separate, her things are on the left and mine are on the right. The equal part comes in if one of us wants to use something of the others (such as a nail clipper or a hair tie.) This means that almost anything we own is open to use with permission. We decided that we didn't want to combine any of our things just yet because we didn't know each other that well. I believe it's a good idea because it will reduce the chance of an argument over whose things are whose. Girls seem to be pettier about their things than boys. Evaluating Mary's Room Thought Experiment By Frank Johnson In the famous thought experiment by philosopher, Frank Johnson, Mary is known as the color scientist who knows everything there is to know about color. Mary has lived in a room all her life where the world seems to be black and white. Mary has the ability to see color she just does not have any color to see as she is only exposed to black and white in her room. Mary learns all the physical facts about color, how human eye sees and interacts with color and how the brain processes the visual stimuli, provided by the textbook she has in her room. At this point, it is clear that Mary knows all of the scientific and physical facts about the color, but one day when she finally escapes her black and white world and steps out of her room for the first time, she encounters a red tomato, she learns something ... Physicalism is the belief that "all facts are physical facts". Physical facts are facts about the world that we can learn in science text books. Such facts include, for example: Red light is about 650 nm. The thought experiment argues against Physicalism by providing facts that are not physical facts. Mary realizes that not everything can be explained perfectly through any kind of physical theory. Explaining what physicalism is and Jackson's responses to it in detail while respecting the page limit 4. Should I talk more about the different types of physicalism? In his article "What Mary Didn 't Know" Frank Jackson comes up with a convincing argument, which challenges physicalism, a theory of the mind, and its validity. In this paper I will look at Jacksons argument, specifically his second premise, and whether or not his conclusion follows it. I will also attempt to present the objections, which he presented to his paper and the replies he builds against them. Physicalism is the idea that the physical facts are all of the facts; which implies that if you know all of the physical facts you know all facts. Physicalism is a type of substance monism and there are several different kinds of physicalism, but it is not necessary to go into the specifics because Jackson targets the validity of physicalism as a theory of the mind and not a specific type of physicalism. Jackson's argument against physicalism, also known as the knowledge argument, is as follows: (1) If Physicalism is true, then, for any domain, knowing all the physical facts in that domain is knowing all the facts in that domain; (2) For some ... Is the use of Seclusion rooms and restraint appropriate for children on IEP's in public education schools when used appropriately and within the laws set forth to govern them? Seclusion and restraint has been a controversial topic in special education for a long time. Recently there has been more talk over the use of seclusion rooms and restraint on violent children in the public education setting. Many advocates feel that the use of such practices is unjust and unethical, that it violates the fourteenth amendment, and that it puts students at risk for injury or harm. Others however feel that such practices are necessary in certain circumstances. That when a child is causing harm to themselves or others, the use of a seclusion ... In this case we wrote it into his IEP that the safe room would be used as a strategy to get him to safe place when he is being harmful to himself or others. We place him in the safe room and he is able to calm himself down at an exponential rate compared to when we had to restrain him physically. This is an example of when a safe room is used appropriately and to the benefit of this child. Though we do not touch him physically we take all precautions necessary. There is a scribe writing everything the child and the teacher in charge says while in the safe room. The adult in charge has one hand on the handle of the door at all times and has the child in eye view at all times. Once the child is calm, they are given the choice to remain in the safe room for a few minutes longer with the door open, or they may come out and process with the adult. These are all necessary steps that are taken by me and my staff to ensure that the child's safety and well being are taken care of as well as the safety of the others in the classroom. Education on the crucial steps and processes of safely using seclusion and restraint is so important. This is why I am so drawn to this topic. Making sure that my name and the room number is large, clear, and visible outside the room prior to the students arriving on the first day, allows for students to feel comfortable knowing they are entering the right room. When it comes to the first day of school and everyday after that, greeting students begins by meeting them before they get into the door. Being prepared for them before they walk in is important. Meet them outside the door with a smile, and telling them good morning, or we are going to have an awesome day, something to bring a positive environment, a positive message right off the bat before any academic learning takes place helps with creating a positive classroom environment if they see that the teacher is happy, energetic, and ready to go. As we get to learn every student's name and getting to know what their interests are, adding their name to saying good morning, and a high five, a fist bump, etc. will continue to make the student feel secure in the room knowing the teacher cares about me, and wants to interact with me. Classroom rules should be created by the students, but with the basics and the framework created by the teacher. • 73. Comparing Physicalists with Dualists INTRODUCTION Are we just bundles of physical particles, or are we something more? Throughout the history of the modern and ancient world, there have always been questions about what is it that this world is made of and likewise, what we ourselves are made of. Do we actually have this beautiful, ethereal thing called a soul, or is this some unsubstantiated claim that we just like to believe because it makes us feel better? The philosophers questioning the nature of the mind/"soul" and posing questions regarding them as those have traditionally articulated their into two camps of theories (or at least an overwhelming majority fall into these camps). There are the Physicalists, and there are the Dualists. To put their ideas in the most basic of terms is fairly easy. Physicalists believe that 1) there is one thing/substance that constitutes the entirety of the universe (namely matter) and 2) that is all there is and therefore, knowing the physical particles accounts for everything (Stoljar 2009, 2 & 3). Dualists are quite a bit more ambiguous and flexible in regards to theories, but think of them as "counter–physicalists". Most dualists subscribe to the overall belief that 1) this universe is more than solely the physical 2) no matter what the physical particles do constitute, be it 99.9999% of the world, it will never account for everything, and 3) the mind or soul – or at the very least some of its qualities or capabilities – is one of those unaccountable things, and is ... • 75. Example Of Knowledge Argument INTRODUCTION OF THE THESIS According to Currie (2015), philosophy is the activity of searching for a reflective understanding of ourselves and also to know about the natural and social worlds we live in. As we know, philosophy is also related to the phrase thinking about thinking. We can get to know what is actually happening in this world and we also will solve some of the confusions that we face in life. Knowledge is the fact and information of knowing something that through some experiences. In addition, argument is the process of arguing or disagreeing about a statement that has discussed. For example, we might argue about the statement that we have the opposite view from the others so we start to make up some proves to solve this matter. In this assignment, we will discuss about the knowledge argument. From a thesis that we have read, we could identify its position stated by Frank Jackson. Knowledge argument stands against physicalism which is proposed by Frank Jackson. Physicalism or materialism is distinguished with phenomenal consciousness of experiences that depicts mind is subjective and implies physicality. Frank Jackson believes that the physical truth seen is not always the whole truth. There is also phenomenal truths learnt through the things we see where ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... "Set that monster there!" he shouted with such rage, the entire castle trembled. The gruesome goblin shuffled over and plopped down on a wooden tripod stool in the center of the dungeon floor. Argos came over and had to stoop so he didn't scrape his huge head on the sloped ceiling. He squatted behind Gordok, wrapped chains around his wrists and ankles, then melted into the dark shadows again. For a few moments, I stared at the monster and started to kind of choke up, thinking about all we had gone through to capture him. I was still lost in thought when Emma skipped down the stairs, smiling at me. She took a few steps, then screeched loud enough to vibrate the cobwebs that were stretched across the corners of the room. "Eeew, yuck." She pointed to Gordok who was still in a stupor. "That monster stinks like rotten fish. Wow! I'll talk to you later," she said and marched out of the dungeon and up the stairs. King Zander sighed. "You have my things Aiden?" "Oh . . . Sorry. I almost forgot. Here," I handed him the golden key. He set it on top of a small box with an inscription written in silver and it vanished. • 79. Physicalism Vs Knowledge Argument The first half of this course has focused on many different philosophical theories that deal with the mind–body problem. One of the most interesting of these theories is physicalism, which is the belief that everything in this world is physical or that all facts are physical facts. There are many arguments against physicalism, but one of the most well–known and most successful arguments is the knowledge argument. The knowledge argument illustrates that physicalism is false. The knowledge argument was created by Frank Jackson and he explained this argument in his paper, "What Mary Didn't Know." This paper introduces the reader to a thought experiment that focuses on Mary, a scientist, who is locked inside of a black and white ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Jackson specifically disagrees with premise one as the point of the knowledge argument is that Mary does not know everything there is to know about brain states and their properties as she does not know about the experience associated with them. Jackson correctly condenses the knowledge argument in his response by stating that Mary, before her release, knows everything physical about other people. Mary, before her release, does not know everything about other people because she learns something new about them after she is released. Therefore, there are truths about others, and herself, that the physicalist story leaves out. Churchland's first argument focuses on the idea that the two types of knowledge are different and the first one can be considered "knowledge by description" and the second kind of knowledge as "knowledge by acquaintance." Some people, such as David Lewis and Laurence Nemirow, expand on Churchland's argument, which leads to a second, stronger opposition to the knowledge argument that considers the mode of presentation. Lewis and Nemirow criticize premise two and state that on Mary's release, she does not learn something new or acquire knowledge in the relevant sense. When she is released, Mary acquires a certain "representational or imaginative ability," meaning Mary acquires abilities, or knowledge how, as opposed to learning truths, or ...
