Introduction To Enterprise Resource Planning ( Erp ) System
By: Robel Berhanu October, 2014 Abstract In the past, ERP systems were used in larger and only in
manufacturing companies. However, now a days, the use of ERP has changed and is extremely
comprehensive, any type of company, no matter what industry it falls in can implement ERP. SAP is
one of and the largest ERP system in the world. SAP software allows the integration of all units of
an organization's business operations in one system for planning, controlling and monitoring

In order for a software system to be considered ERP, it must provide a company with functionality
for more than one system. Small types of ERP systems, like QuickBooks, cover only two functions
of an organization (usually HR and Accounting). The main reason why I start my paper by
introducing ERP is because SAP is the largest ERP software in the market, so I will be using this
word frequently throughout the paper. If we don't know what an ERP is then it will be hard to
understand SAP software. What is SAP ERP software?
The abbreviation SAP stands for Systems Applications and Products for data processing.
The SAP software is the fourth largest company in the business market.
SAP system is a software package designed to combine all areas of a big company.
It provides solutions for financials, human resource, manufacturing, logistics, distribution, and
others. All business processes and units are performed in one system and this allows sharing one
common information with all users. SAP software allows the integration of all units of an
organization's business operations in one system for planning, controlling and monitoring purpose.
This means all the information that is entered by HR, can be accessed by finance team and the vice
versa. SAP is an Enterprise Resource Planning system by SAP AG, company based in Germany. The

Managing Users in Heterogeneous IT Landscapes
One of the main challenge organizations is facing is managing users in heterogeneous IT landscapes.
Organizations are preferring the access control via role management (Franqueira, V. N. L et al.,
2012). With the evolving responsibilities, the system landscape is becoming more and more
complex and difficult to manage and track (SAP1, 2012). With SAP NetWeaver Identity
Management (IdM), we can manage identities and their authorizations centrally in both SAP and
non–SAP system landscapes. This comes with employee self–services and SAP BusinessObjects
Access Control formerly GRC (Governance, risk management, and compliance) (SAP2, 2012)
integration which helps in risk detection and mitigation and makes identity management more
compliant. Using NetWeaver IdM, a highly customizable framework we can provide joint
authentication for all business processes and a single sign–on as a secure identity management
solution. Driving factors for implementation of Identity management include a decrease in
operational cost, frequently evolving business processes with increasing complexity and inability to
de–provision a user completely. Many challenges come from the desire to grant single–sign–on
access to collections of resources that might have contradictory access–protection rules (Buell, D.A.
et al., 2003). The functions of NetWeaver IdM include role management, Identity Virtualization,
data synchronization, customized work–flows and approval process, password management, identity

SAP chose to use its connection to customers as a tool to be more innovative. One of the important
decisions was made because they also had to overcome problems with cultural challenges. This is
why they used the locations to satisfy the reginal demands, and spread its R&D labs globally,
instead of centralizing near to headquarters. SAP opened development labs in high–tech areas such
as Silicon Valley in order to leverage the innovation and entrepreneurial spirit, as well as the rich
ecosystem of the venture companies, startups and academic institutions.
Martin Stork also said that "As a company on your own, you will never be really innovative" and he
meant that SAP's co–innovation labs constituted the third pillar of their R&D network. They have
located six co–innovation labs, in India, United States, Brazil, South Korea, Japan and to the

Life Story Of The Chief Storyteller At Sap
Life Story Of The Chief Storyteller At SAP, Julie Roehm: Being Different Like Steve Jobs "Julie,
we are moving again." her father would echo those words every few years of her school life. Most
kids would have found that physical move of schools and making new friends in a new place too
intense of a change. Julie was different. She thrived on that change, taking her chances and
embracing variety. In her words, "I knew nothing better. I absorbed what I saw – my mom's
bubbliness and my traveling salesman dad's persona of self–belief. I am from the Midwest with deep
roots to a small town called Watertown in Wisconsin. I am fifth generation in my family who was
born there." For a moment, I forgot I was speaking with one of the senior women executives at the
multinational company – SAP. Her enthusiastic earthliness reverberated on the phone. I had my
reasons for talking to her. Steve Jobs reveled in working on the fringes against conventional
wisdom. He took his chances for change. Yet, there was a singular constancy in his life – his innate
love for bringing technology intimately closer to people. He found the down years, after the ouster
from Apple, the most nourishing in his life to contemplate, recharge and more importantly ruminate
on what is truly important. He refined his approach and resurged with renewed vigor on what he
always believed in – his constancy. That yielded spectacular results – bringing us amazing products
that we talk about with reverence.

SAP focuses upon 25 industries and six industry sectors: process industries, discrete industries,
consumer industries, service industries, financial services and public services. It offers integrated
product sets for large enterprises, mid–sized companies and small businesses. SAP competitors are
primarily in the enterprise resource planning software industry. In this field, Oracle Corporation is
SAP 's major competitor. SAP also competes in the customer relationship management, marketing &
sales software, manufacturing, warehousing & industrial software, and supply chain management &
logistics software sectors. Oracle Corporation filed a lawsuit against SAP for malpractice and unfair
competition in the California courts in 2007. SAP lost the case in 2010 and was ordered to pay a
sum of US $1.3 billion, which was cited as the largest copyright infringement judgment in history.
The verdict was overturned in 2011 and the lawsuit was finally settled in 2014 for $356.7 million.
Since 2012, SAP has acquired several companies that sell cloud–based products, with several
multibillion–dollar acquisitions seen by analysts as an attempt to challenge competitor Oracle. In

SAP offers front and back office software and services for rent or purchase through its mySAP.com

in this sector, SAP has launched a US subsidiary to build online marketplaces for large companies

the project they were working on for IBM was moved to another unit. The four agreed to write a

left –– Systems, Applications, and Projects) was formed. While rival software companies made
many products to automate the various parts of a company's operations, these engineers decided to
make a single system that would tie a corporation together. In 1973 they launched an instantaneous
accounting transaction processing program called R/1. By 1981, with 200 customers already on
board, they had adapted the program to create R/2, mainframe software that linked external
databases and communication systems. The company went public in 1988. That year, Plattner began
a project to create software for the computer network market. In 1992, as sales of its R/2 mainframe

organization wants to move ahead and implement SAP CRM module which would help them better

Also this document talks about SAP CRM module on cloud vis–à–vis in–house SAP CRM and

Main Discussion
What is CRM
(Samma, 2011) stated that Customer relationship management is a combination of policies,
processes and strategies applied by any organization to unify its customer interactions and provide a
mean to track customer information in best possible way so that the customer information can be
converted into actionable insights. It involves use of information technology in attracting and
retaining commercially viable customers.
(Mishra, 2009) Has stated that CRM is an integration of information technology and relationship
marketing technique provides the infrastructure that facilitates long term relationship building with
customers at an enterprise wide level. Customer relationship can be classified into following

Technology And Its Impact On Technology Essay
Technology is used daily in businesses and in homes. The most useful is business technology
because without the people in the background creating and developing the technology, there would
not be any technology at home. There is a variety of different modules in developing technology and
its encryptions that prevents the systems data from being public to anyone to use for their own
personal use. In this report, I will be reporting what I researched about a specific company that has
pros and cons just like any other company. The Systems, Applications, and Products company is a
company built from a group of people that did not like how a certain system was set up. Instead of
this group of people complaining about the system and not doing anything about it; they decided to
solve the problems themselves by branching out of that company and creating their own. The SAP
company is constantly growing and is still to this day the number one company with Oracle
following not too far behind. These companies, like many others like them, have developed a way to
make normally hard processes simpler.
The Systems, Applications, and Products company is a German multinational software company that
is used to make enterprise resource planning software. Companies use enterprise resource planning
(ERP) to manage and integrate the most important parts of business such as planning, purchasing,
inventory, sales, marketing, finance, and human resources. The Systems, Applications, and Products

A meeting needed to be scheduled with the customer who was located in Ireland. In addition, there
is a change control process that is used when creating and completing any new development. This
change control process is based on requests from the business. Then, procedures must be followed to
implement these requests.
Most requests follow a general guideline and a series of steps. The first step of the change control
process is to identify what must be changed and document those changes. The second step is to
validate the change with management approval. The third step is to analyze how long it will take,
how much it will cost, and how the change will impact the current software design. The fourth step
is control which is the deciding factor on whether you want to proceed with the change. The fifth
step is action which includes documenting and implementing the changes. The sixth and final step is
to verify that all documentation is complete and close the request.

in the crucial areas of channel management, brand and customer management, customer interaction

Better Communication Across All Channels
Lack of communication between OEMs and their end customers is a pervasive problem. Contact
between OEMs and customers is limited and often involves a customer–initiated problem or
complaint. Or customers may hear only indirectly from the OEM in the form of marketing
campaigns. So a key IT process requirement in the automotive industry is to facilitate effective
communications between OEMs and their dealers and – through the dealers – with the customers
who buy the vehicles. The mySAP CRM solution makes channel integration across entire networks
possible in a cost–effective manner and supports key business processes. Sales and service
organizations can give dealer employees access through portal applications and provide access to
dealer management systems through Web–based services. For example, the portal solutions help

Enterprise architecture can assist in strategically managing an organization's investment in IT.
Enterprise architecture rapidly coordinates their IT strategy with a company's changing business
strategy. Having a clear vision of what the infrastructure required in a firm, will make easy the
building or developing process. On the top of that, enterprise architecture can help with talent
retention thanks to businesses focusing on training for better application usage that gives IT the
opportunity to concentrate on services for internal users/clients and minimizes the number of
technologies support has to assist with. Enterprise architecture also helps with providing the right
information to the right people at the right time. An Enterprise Architecture forces a firm to
document their IT plans and coordinate them with the business needs which is very important for the

The Sucess of the German Company SAPAG and Enterprise...
Introduction According to Leimbach (2008), the success of the German company, SAP AG, leads to
its enterprise creating software called Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP / SAP ERP) that equips a
company with an integrated solution combining the essential business functions of the company
itself. The purpose of this report is to analyse the application of System Analysis and Program
Development hence, known as SAP / SAP's ERP systems in business organisations, investigate the
challenges and benefits within the SAP's ERP systems environment, also provide which application
suits the SAP's ERP systems. This report will focus on three main scopes, which are the overview,
the challenges, and benefits and recommendation for SAP's ERP systems application.
Overview of SAP's ERP Systems One of the systems SAP created is the ERP system, which has
been mentioned in the introduction as Enhancing Resource Planning. Most of the business
organisations are using ERP systems, however, "little is known" about ERP systems' origins and its
improvement to become one of the most important segments within the software market (Leimbach,
2008). Soliman and Youssef (1998) stated that ERP systems have assisted the progress of a
"process–oriented approach" to a system development, as its database can be taken parts by several
functions of particular functional units within the same business, and also built around the business

Memory Database And Cloud Computing
Consider In–memory Databases and Cloud Computing In–Memory Database / Cloud Computing
Approach The industrial use of databases is advancing to the point where modern and fast solutions
are required in most industries. Plattner (2011) states that "Sub–second response time and real–time
analytics are key requirements for applications that allow natural human computer interactions. We
envision users of enterprise applications to interact with their software tools in such a natural way,
just like any Internet user interacts with a web search engine today by refining search results on the
fly when the initial results are not satisfying" (Plattner, 2011). Keeping up with the South River

A few companies have found their successful paths by leveraging the digital aspects of the business.
Those companies who have been successful in the digital world, regardless of the industry they are

In order for a software system to be considered ERP, it must provide a company with functionality for more than one system. Small types of ERP systems, like QuickBooks, cover only two functions of an organization (usually HR and Accounting). The main reason why I start my paper by introducing ERP is because SAP is the largest ERP software in the market, so I will be using this word frequently throughout the paper. If we don't know what an ERP is then it will be hard to understand SAP software. What is SAP ERP software? The abbreviation SAP stands for Systems Applications and Products for data processing. The SAP software is the fourth largest company in the business market. SAP system is a software package designed to combine all areas of a big company. It provides solutions for financials, human resource, manufacturing, logistics, distribution, and others. All business processes and units are performed in one system and this allows sharing one common information with all users. SAP software allows the integration of all units of an organization's business operations in one system for planning, controlling and monitoring purpose. This means all the information that is entered by HR, can be accessed by finance team and the vice versa. SAP is an Enterprise Resource Planning system by SAP AG, company based in Germany. • 3. Managing Users in Heterogeneous IT Landscapes One of the main challenge organizations is facing is managing users in heterogeneous IT landscapes. Organizations are preferring the access control via role management (Franqueira, V. N. L et al., 2012). With the evolving responsibilities, the system landscape is becoming more and more complex and difficult to manage and track (SAP1, 2012). With SAP NetWeaver Identity Management (IdM), we can manage identities and their authorizations centrally in both SAP and non–SAP system landscapes. This comes with employee self–services and SAP BusinessObjects Access Control formerly GRC (Governance, risk management, and compliance) (SAP2, 2012) integration which helps in risk detection and mitigation and makes identity management more compliant. Using NetWeaver IdM, a highly customizable framework we can provide joint authentication for all business processes and a single sign–on as a secure identity management solution. Driving factors for implementation of Identity management include a decrease in operational cost, frequently evolving business processes with increasing complexity and inability to de–provision a user completely. Many challenges come from the desire to grant single–sign–on access to collections of resources that might have contradictory access–protection rules (Buell, D.A. et al., 2003). The functions of NetWeaver IdM include role management, Identity Virtualization, data synchronization, customized work–flows and approval process, password management, identity ... Life Story Of The Chief Storyteller At Sap Life Story Of The Chief Storyteller At SAP, Julie Roehm: Being Different Like Steve Jobs "Julie, we are moving again." her father would echo those words every few years of her school life. Most kids would have found that physical move of schools and making new friends in a new place too intense of a change. Julie was different. She thrived on that change, taking her chances and embracing variety. In her words, "I knew nothing better. I absorbed what I saw – my mom's bubbliness and my traveling salesman dad's persona of self–belief. I am from the Midwest with deep roots to a small town called Watertown in Wisconsin. I am fifth generation in my family who was born there." For a moment, I forgot I was speaking with one of the senior women executives at the multinational company – SAP. Her enthusiastic earthliness reverberated on the phone. I had my reasons for talking to her. Steve Jobs reveled in working on the fringes against conventional wisdom. He took his chances for change. Yet, there was a singular constancy in his life – his innate love for bringing technology intimately closer to people. He found the down years, after the ouster from Apple, the most nourishing in his life to contemplate, recharge and more importantly ruminate on what is truly important. He refined his approach and resurged with renewed vigor on what he always believed in – his constancy. That yielded spectacular results – bringing us amazing products that we talk about with reverence. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 44. Memory Database And Cloud Computing Consider In–memory Databases and Cloud Computing In–Memory Database / Cloud Computing Approach The industrial use of databases is advancing to the point where modern and fast solutions are required in most industries. Plattner (2011) states that "Sub–second response time and real–time analytics are key requirements for applications that allow natural human computer interactions. We envision users of enterprise applications to interact with their software tools in such a natural way, just like any Internet user interacts with a web search engine today by refining search results on the fly when the initial results are not satisfying" (Plattner, 2011). Keeping up with the South River hospital and pharmacy 's growth requires keeping up with this database technology. Subsequent queries are the second, third, and so on, queries similar to when web users perform a search using their search engine, only to refine the specifics to remove results non sequitur from their intended query. A sub–second response from the database is needed to keep the users mind on the task at hand and to not wander off. As Plattner states: "Any interval sufficiently longer than the speed–of– thought interval will be detected as waiting time and the user 's mind starts wandering to other topics, which is a process that cannot be consciously controlled. How this affects our users be they clinical or pharmacy, is increased accuracy to healthcare through technological advancement. Plattner further states ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This paper is going to elaborate on the successful stories of two companies, Burberry and Asian Paints, which have created both compelling digital customer experiences and exploiting the power of core operations (Westerman, Bonnet, McAfee, 2014). Firstly, there are three things that Digital Master does differently in creating a compelling customer experience: Designing customer experience from the outside in, creating reach and customer engagement, putting customer data at the heart of the experience, and seamlessly meshing physical and digital experiences in new ways (Westerman, Bonnet, McAfee, 2014).
