 Now that the holiday season is over and people are                                                                T h r i f t St o r e N e w s
 a t t e m p t i n g t o c a r r y o n w i t h t h e i r N e w Ye a r ’s r e s o l u t i o n s
 and getting their lives organized, I would like to take a

 citizens of Porterville and the surrounding communities.                                                               
 I would like to personally thank you all!

 As we were preparing for the Project Homeless Connect,
 I was contacted by Gail Grasmick who is the advisor for                                                                Springtime is a time to say

 Medical Association, violent relationships in
 adolescence can have serious ramifications, putting
 those who are victimized at higher risk for substance
 a b u s e , e a t i n g d i s o r d e r s , r i s k y s e x u a l b e h a v i o r, s u i c i d e ,
 and violence in their adult relationships. The California
 H e a l t h y K i d s S u r v e y s h o w s t h a t 7 p e r c e n t o f 11 t h g r a d e
 students in California said they were victims of teen
 dating violence in the last 12 months. The problem is
 compounded by lack of appropriate response by parents
 and other adults. In a survey published by Liz
 C l a i b o r n e , I n c . a n d F a m i l y Vi o l e n c e P r e v e n t i o n F u n d ,

  program, shelter program, and the aftercare program. All donations signify a lot to the families that are the
  recipients of these generous gifts and thoughts that come along with your continued support.

  T h e Wo m e n ’s S h e l t e r h a s b e e n v e r y f u l l w i t h w o m e n a n d c h i l d r e n w h o c o m e t o u s d u e t o
  homelessness or domestic violence. For the past three months we have had 30 or more beds filled
  o n a d a i l y b a s i s . We h a v e b e e n l u c k y t o h a v e t w o n e w v o l u n t e e r s a b o a r d . We h a v e o n e h e r e a t t h e
  shelter and the other volunteer at the front office. Melinda Martinez is a client advocate who is
  wonderful with our women and children. She has been learning so much since she began with us.
  She feels that this job is rewarding. At first, she was very nervous about being accepted by the
  f a m i l i e s w e s e r v e . H o w e v e r, s h e i s g l a d s h e c a m e t o w o r k a t t h e Wo m e n ’s S h e l t e r b e c a u s e s h e
  now realizes that the families we work with are grateful. Once again we are happy to have her
  w i t h h e r b e a u t i f u l s m i l e a n d e n t h u s i a s m . We l c o m e t o C C F C C M e l i n d a !

Perhaps you’ve seen the CCFCC ads in the local newspapers or on the side of the city buses. The ads were part of
an outreach effort funded by a grant from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. CCFCC received a small
grant to reach out to victims of domestic violence who may be unaware of the many services available to them
t h r o u g h t h e F a m i l y C r i s i s C e n t e r. T h e s e f u n d s p r o v i d e d C C F C C w i t h t h e o p p o r t u n i t y t o u s e a d v e r t i s e m e n t
methods that are normally unaffordable to us. There were 30 and 60 second “spots” on KJUG and La Maquina
Musical radio stations, Porterville city bus ads, outreach brochures in English and Spanish, new agency brochures
in English and Spanish, newspaper ads in both English and Spanish and several agency presentations to small
groups.

CCFCC and Eagles Lodge to advertize a drive-through dinner in the Spring, La Maquina Musical wants to present
an in-depth interview with CCFCC staff to air on their radio station.A likely sign that the outreach campaign was
s u c c e s s f u l i s t h e i n c r e a s e o f c l i e n t s a t t h e s h e l t e r. S i n c e l a t e l a s t y e a r t h e s h e l t e r a n d t h e t r a n s i t i o n a l h o u s i n g
a p a r t m e n t s h a v e b e e n f i l l e d t o c a p a c i t y o r n e a r c a p a c i t y. We a r e c e r t a i n t h a t m o r e w o m e n a n d c h i l d r e n a r e a w a r e o f

CCFCC Board of Directors The First Baptist Church of Porterville helped to Robert Krase bring joy and cheer to the children living at the Mike MacDonald emergency shelter and transitional housing by Lew Johnson hosting a Christmas party for them.. Santa and Sharon Fusco presents were included. The Southern California Jeanne Maag Edison employees also spread warmth and cheer Judi Kaiser by adopting a whole family for the season. The John Lollis Breakfast Rotary provided beautifully wrapped E r n i e Wi l l i a m s g i f t s f o r e v e r y w o m a n i n t h e e m e r g e n c y s h e l t e r. R e v. From the Executive Director TREASURES Now that the holiday season is over and people are T h r i f t St o r e N e w s a t t e m p t i n g t o c a r r y o n w i t h t h e i r N e w Ye a r ’s r e s o l u t i o n s and getting their lives organized, I would like to take a J u m p St a r t Yo u r moment to reflect on the amazing generosity of the   citizens of Porterville and the surrounding communities.   I would like to personally thank you all! As we were preparing for the Project Homeless Connect, I was contacted by Gail Grasmick who is the advisor for Springtime is a time to say t h e B u i l d e r ’s C l u b a t S t r a t h m o r e M i d d l e S c h o o l . The problem is compounded by lack of appropriate response by parents and other adults. All donations signify a lot to the families that are the recipients of these generous gifts and thoughts that come along with your continued support. T h e Wo m e n ’s S h e l t e r h a s b e e n v e r y f u l l w i t h w o m e n a n d c h i l d r e n w h o c o m e t o u s d u e t o homelessness or domestic violence. For the past three months we have had 30 or more beds filled o n a d a i l y b a s i s . We h a v e b e e n l u c k y t o h a v e t w o n e w v o l u n t e e r s a b o a r d . We h a v e o n e h e r e a t t h e shelter and the other volunteer at the front office. Melinda Martinez is a client advocate who is wonderful with our women and children. She has been learning so much since she began with us. She feels that this job is rewarding. At first, she was very nervous about being accepted by the f a m i l i e s w e s e r v e . H o w e v e r, s h e i s g l a d s h e c a m e t o w o r k a t t h e Wo m e n ’s S h e l t e r b e c a u s e s h e now realizes that the families we work with are grateful. Once again we are happy to have her w i t h h e r b e a u t i f u l s m i l e a n d e n t h u s i a s m . We l c o m e t o C C F C C M e l i n d a ! *Betty Luna, Director of Shelter Operiations Reaching Out Perhaps you’ve seen the CCFCC ads in the local newspapers or on the side of the city buses. The ads were part of an outreach effort funded by a grant from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. CCFCC received a small grant to reach out to victims of domestic violence who may be unaware of the many services available to them t h r o u g h t h e F a m i l y C r i s i s C e n t e r. T h e s e f u n d s p r o v i d e d C C F C C w i t h t h e o p p o r t u n i t y t o u s e a d v e r t i s e m e n t methods that are normally unaffordable to us. There were 30 and 60 second “spots” on KJUG and La Maquina Musical radio stations, Porterville city bus ads, outreach brochures in English and Spanish, new agency brochures in English and Spanish, newspaper ads in both English and Spanish and several agency presentations to small groups.
