1. In what ways does your media
product use, develop or challenge
forms and conventions of real
media products?
Evaluation question for ‘Only Business’
2. Our media product develops a stereotypical view of how young
adults are often portrayed in certain areas of the media
already, for example film and television productions such as
Top Boy and Ill Manors. Similarly our film opening places the
characters into the same social group as these media
productions. The young adults characters who are seen in our
film opening use violence against each other and also abusive
language, these actions and use of language are often applied
to similar media productions based around the modern crime
genre. We thought it was necessary to use these aspects of
drama and language, in order to make the audience feel that
the film does a good job in conforming to the particular social
class of young adults that can be seen in our production.
3. Like many other media productions based in the crime
genre our production uses a clear distinction between
hero and villain, meaning that our production conforms to
the traditional formula of crime genre, this can clearly be
seen just from our opening.
4. Our media production challenges some of the existing
media productions based in the crime genre, as it not only
has clear conventions of illegal activity (crime) but it also
shows briefly an aspect of family betrayal between two of
the characters. This may differ from existing media
products, as they may focus more purely on the crime
which takes place, where as we have tried to make our
production's focus more diverse.
