2. Due to our song being in the genre of Alternative R&B we came to a decision that we wanted our
actor to be either Asian/Indian or Mixed Race. This allows us to follow the typical conventions of this
genre and make sure the voice of the singer SZA matches the actor we have. We are only planning to
have one actor in this music video.
3. Our first potential actress is Sophia Khan. Sophia is in our media
group whilst we are creating this music video. When deciding a
possible actress for our music video we all came to a mutual
decision that we wanted a black or Asian female to play the role of
the lead role, this is due to the fact that SZA has very unique voice
that most people wouldn’t stereotypically say was a white voice.
Sophia has mid-length black hair which looks good
She has great indie/urban style which is the vibe we are going for,
due to her dressing in baggy jumpers, brands and neutral colours
which is shown in the two images. Sophia is very photogenic and
can be very confident in front of the camera.
Sophia is also very comfortable with the song choice of SZA’s ‘Ice
Moon’ which also helps when it comes down to filming and lip
syncing. Sophia also has great availability due to her already being
in our group and has already made time for when we need to go
and film. Sophia matches the alternative R&B genre very well due
to her already listening to the genre which helps her have an
insight in the ways they act in music videos.
However Sophia did query that if she was the actor she would miss
out on filming the actor whilst they lip sync and that she might not
4. Our second possible actor is Simi Kaur. Simi goes to our school
and all of us are very familiar with her. Simi is very photogenic and
is quite confident around the camera. She has great style which
ranges from retro jackets (much like the one she is wearing in
these two photos), smart trousers and branded hoodies. Simi is
very easy to get along with which will make the process of
working with her much easier. Her hair is very long which does
allow us to experiment with different styles.
Overall Simi fits into being one of our possible actors because she
has the right look and style.
A problem we face is that Simi has a job outside of school as well
as making sure she has time for studying, this means that we may
face problems of where she may not be able to film the same day
as our group. This can cause problems especially if we have to
face certain deadlines. This links to the location of where we are
going to hopefully film, due to the location being in London it
requires time for travelling which can also be a negative.
Simi said that she may not feel comfortable filming in a public
space, much like Sophia which is very high seeing as we will be
filming in London.
