3. The Genius of Jazz (YouTube lecture/demonstration)
4. Various newspaper articles
Choose three (3) of the following questions and complete the Project Graphic Organizer
(GO):
1. What does it mean to be an American?
2. What are the strengths/weaknesses of different genres? (non-fiction,
documentary, memoir, poems, newspaper articles)
3. For what purpose does the author use different literary techniques? (flashbacks,
imagery, metaphor/simile, symbolism, repetition)
4. How can conflict or difficult times bring about something great?
5. How does fear influence behavior?
6. How do we see the difficulty of getting back to regular life after a tragedy?
7. How does media coverage impact the experience of victims?
8. What makes someone an insider or an outsider?
9. What is the difference between following your head and following your heart?
10. How does understanding other cultures affect your world view?
11. How does the government or legal system affect individuals and communities in
positive ways?

negative ways?

14. What is a government’s responsibility to its citizens?
