WHAT ARE GOALS?
 Goals can be defined as an objective that you
set out for yourself to achieve.
 Goals can be categorised into four types:
 1. Short term goals
 2. Long term goals
 3. Fixed goals
 4.Flexible goals
TYPES OF GOALS EXPLAINED
 Short term goals
 - These may be defined
as goals that can be
attained in the near
future. For example-
within a few weeks or
months
 Long term
 - These are goals that
take longer to achieve
for example- to be
attained within a year
or more
TYPES OF GOALS CONTINUED..
 Fixed goals
 - These are goals which
outcome/s are based
depending on specific date
and/or time.
 Flexible goals
 -These goals oppose fixed
goals in the sense that the
goals have a outcome but
not a time constraint.
WHY SHOULD ONE CONSIDER SETTING GOALS?
Goal setting can be beneficial as It would train you
to strive for the best. For example:
 You would be in control and can therefore focus
on important aspects.
 This then leads to learning and bettering
personal skills such as
-good decision making
-punctuality and discipline
- confidence and enthusiasm
HOW TO EFFECTIVELY SET GOALS
 Having goals in mind can be seen as the first
step to success, but the strategy used to
attain these goals counts as the most crucial
step in attaining them.
 It is therefore important to draft out the idea
of how to reach your goals but what method
is the most easiest and effective?
JUST FOLLOW THE
“SMART “ WAY!
S-M-A-R-T?
 Specific
 Goals should have expected outcomes stated as
simply and clearly as possible
 Measurable
 Include how you will know if you have met your goal
 Achievable
 Goals should have outcomes that are realistic given
your current situation, resources, and available time
 Relevant
 Goals should help you on your journey toward
meeting larger, ultimate life outcomes.
 Time bound
- Goals should include realistic timeframes for
achievement
MOST IMPORTANT!!!
 When setting goals, it is most important for
one to set realistic and meaningful goals.
 This means that one should set goals that you
are ABLE to reach:
 Achievable
 Believable
 Conceivable
 Measurable
