The film Matilda tells the story of a gifted young girl named Matilda Wormwood who was born into an unsupportive family and community. When she starts school, she encounters difficulties with the principal Mrs. Trunchbull. However, Matilda realizes she has telekinetic powers which she uses to help herself and her friends deal with Mrs. Trunchbull. Throughout the film, Matilda continues to develop her love of learning and discover her own strengths. This analysis will examine how John Bowlby's attachment theory, Lev Vygotsky's zone of proximal development, and Jean Piaget's cognitive development stages relate to Matilda's story and development.
