Name of the unit : circulatory pathways
Name of the topic : Liver
CURRICULAR STATEMENT
By observation, communication, drawing, the child learns about liver.
CONTENT ANALYSIS
Terms: Liver, alimentary canal, diabetic, glycogen, ammonia, urea, Amino acid, alcohol
Facts : * The blood that reaches from the alimentary canal has increased quantities of glucose
and Amino acids.
* Glucose maintained at a constant level in blood for life activities to promote smoothly
* If blood is examined 8 hours after the night meal the glucose level in the blood at
70-110mg/100ml
* When the glucose level increases above 126mg the person is diabetic.
* the excess glucose in blood is converted to glycogen by the liver and stored in the liver.
* When the quantity of glucose in blood decreases the glycogen is converted into
glucose.
* The ammonia produced during the breakdown of aminoacid is converted to urea in
the liver
* The poisonous substances and alcohol that go in through food are broken up and
rendered harmless In liver.
2. Concept: * Liver control the glucose in blood and broken up the poisonous substances and
alcohol
Learning enables the pupil to acquire the following areas.
Factual knowledge about the liver.
In terms of 1) recalling new terms like alimentary canal, diabetic, alcohol etc.
Specification: 2) recognizing the peculiarities of liver
Conceptual knowledge about the liver
1) Explaining the importance of liver in our body
Procedural knowledge about liver
1) Implementing various functions of liver
Metacognition knowledge about liver
1) Differentiating functions of liver in our body
Scientific knowledge about liver
1) Showing interest to know more about the liver.
Process skills are
1) Explaining the mechanism of liver in our body.
2) Observing the function of liver in our body.
Pre-requisite: Regeneration takes place in the body only in the liver.
Teaching-
Learning
Resources: * flashcard shows the features of liver.
* Animation showing the structure of liver.
Class room interaction procedure Expected pupils response
Introduction
Outcomes
3. Are you heard about the organ transplantation? Yes
Which are the organs became transplanted? Skin, eye, heart.
Are you know about the organ which is transplanted
In your life? Liver
Liver (B.B)
Presentation
Activity I
Teacher shows the pupil animation showing the
Structure of liver and told them to write answers
Of given indicators
Indicators
1) Which organ has the regenerating capacity Liver
2) Name the digestive enzyme produced by
liver? Bile
3) Name the disease affect the liver with the
Increase of drinking alcohol? Liver cirrhosis
4) Write the function of liver ?
The poisonous substances and
Alcohol that go in through are
4. broken up and rendered harmless in
the liver.
Group discussion lead by the teacher
Liver is the only one organ in our body which has the
Capacity to regenerate. The liver produces the digestive
Enzyme bile. The disease which affect liver due to increase
In drinking alcohol is liver cirrhosis. The liver is also known
as purifying station. The poisonous substances and alcohol
That go in through food are broken up and rendered
harmless in the liver.
Activity II
Teacher divided the pupils into groups and shows the flash
Card and told them to write the answers of given indicators
Glucose glycogen
Glycogen decreases glucose
Ammonia urea
Indicators
1)how glycogen is formed? The excess glucose in blood is
Converted to glycogen.
2) where the glycogen is stored? in the liver.
3) what happens if the quantity of glucose in blood The glycogen is converted into
decreases? Glucose
4) How urea is formed in the liver? The ammonia produced during
The breakdown of aminoacid is
Converted to urea in the liver
5. Group discussion lead by the teacher
The excess glucose in blood is converted into glycogen and
The glycogen is stored in the liver. The quantity of glucose
In blood decreases the glycogen. The glycogen is converted
Into glucose. The ammonia produced during the breakdown
Of aminoacid is converted into urea in the liver.
REVIEW
1) Name the enzyme produced by liver?
2) What is the disease affect the liver?
3) What is the function of liver ?
4) How urea is formed in the liver ?
